I totally agree with your comment about “thinking vs. just playing” with fanned frets. My first Dingwall confused me a bit because I was staring at the neck while playing and comparing where my fingers landed and it caused me to fumble. Once I quite thinking about it and “just played the damn thing”, it was totally intuitive.
Yeah, I’m glad that I quickly came to that realisation (again) 😂 Really intuitive instrument to play tbh!!
Team Super P!

Kinda diggin a few of the tones from that Tonestyler - I had one in an old G&L - I loved it. (esp one of the tones seemed to boost the mids - which I like)
Sweet Dingwall too - enjoy it!
Me too!! Was a bit sceptical at first, but it won me over REALLY fast!!
I've a Super PJ 4-string hanging on the wall behind me... such a great bass and a nice alternative to the Z3! The 'shorter' scale length makes it incredibly playable.
NICE!!!
Sounds very clean an clear, no fret buzz, looks great! Honestly I've never heard of Dingwall til recently an was doing some homework before pulling the trigger on the D-Roc it's a bit of money, an obviously wanna get as much bang for my buck as possible! As you stated it's there with, or surpasses the other, bigger name basses?! I think I'm going to go for it... I'll keep you posted an let you know how I make out?! Thanks for your info an tutorial into Dingwall!!!
Glad to be of service!! Keep me posted!!
Wonderful instrument!
Agreed!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
@@erikarko didn't catch where did you find this? I think Super Ps and Js are custom made, no?
@bobmaerten Bought it used from my friend Roger Hedin! :)
@@erikarko oh I see. This guy has serious connections 😁
@@bobmaerten 😁😁😁
Nice review, Erik! The first position on the Tonestyler is like you have no tone pot at all, just straight through. The second position is like tone full up. Unfortunately, this multi position Tonestyler is out of production; the newer ones have fewer bands. The "dub tone" from this bass is monstruous...
Oooooh!! Thanks for that info! ❤️
Dingwall FTW
lakeland basses are cool to.
Yeah!!
So bass and drums are like coffee and… cookies? 😂 Congrats for your purchase. This is the type of instrument that grows on you with time, I guess. Sounds and looks wonderful!
Haha yup!! 😂
Thanks man!!
The one part of the riff keeps making me sing 'just like witches at black masses' - Ozzy/Sabbath lol
:D
Hey Erik,
How is the neck compared to to the Dingwall combustion or the Attitude 3 ?
Is it like a thicker neck like a P-bass or thin Jazz ?
These basses are pretty rear in Sweden as you know so it's pretty hard to get a chance to test them.
I'd say it's "skinnier" than my Attitude basses and much more like my Fender P 1963. On the Dingwall homepage it says "Medium thin C shape" on the neck profile (and you can also find the proper measurements there!) :)

The tone sounds like tech 21 dp-3x pedal’s distorted tone👍🔥
Cool! It actually used Parallax from Neural DSP :)
Dunno what I think of Fanned frets. Whats your thoughts on fanned? You hould do a video on Fanned vs TT vs regular.
I really like it! Took like five seconds to get used to! :)
Need to get ahold of a P-bass with TT then! :D
I have a TT short scale bass built by Anders Thidell the guy that invented TT :3 It has J/p pickups@@erikarko
@@nibel13 Oh! I remember that one!! Such a cool bass!!
Do you know much about the plans for the import super PJ in 2024?
No, not too much.. hopefully, there’ll be more news around NAMM!!
Question for ya. Do you find your string are too short? Do your strings taper at the end? Are they long scale? I don’t want to have to buy Payson or dingwall string just to play my super p.
I use the Rotosound BS66 Set and they fit the bass like a glove! 👍
how does it sound tuned anything around A flat or lower? does the biggest string feel tighter to pick?
Haven’t tried that low. It handles drop C like a champ though :)
@@erikarko thanks man, currently using a fender american pro 5 string for drop A flat and drop A tuning on a couple songs, and have to play super gentle. I was wondering if a dingwall would make that low string tighter, someday ill have to try a dingwall super p 5 string. i love me some deep rumbly bass.
@JoesGuitarCafe The super P five strings are 35” on the lowest string, so that will help A LOT compared to 34” imho
@@erikarko Goal set! thanks! i also have a noble di! i use for guitars and its sick
Your Dingwall may feel a lot like your Yamaha but 2 months from now it’ll feel much different, but in a good way, enjoy.
👍👍👍
I f...king hate those frets on my d-roc. They are so soft and small that I have to change them after a year of playing this bass. I have 7 basses and Dingwall is not the most used, but those frets, man, I can't say anything good about them.
😮 Did NOT expect that! Sad to hear that, man!!
Arent they for down tuning?
I’ve tuned it to D standard/Drop C now - but the super P aren’t as “extreme” in the scale lengths as say the NG or Z series (with their 37” low B) :)
@@erikarko thanks!
Super j or super p? Decisions, decisions. 🤔
Super P for me :)
@@erikarko Have you tried the super j? I believe you can get one with a p pick up.
