My hamster is not necessarily fond of being held but he loves running around on the couch and if he goes to close to the edge I just call his name and say "watch out" and he turns around and walks back to safety 😂 very handy
If it weren't for you my Syrian hamster Toffee would be living in a tiny cage with a 4" wheel and less than an inch of bedding. She's currently living in a cage with almost 600 square inches of floor space and more than 6 inches of bedding! She has a proper wheel now and a beautiful natural setup. All thanks to your channel! I am so thankful to have found it! Toffee is also a new hamster and this video is perfect for learning how to bond with her! :) Update: I'm planning to get the NiteAngel Vista enclosure (the large size!) in the spring or early summer (they're currently all out of stock in my area). It exceeds 1000 sq in and I am so excited for this upgrade!! Again, thanks so much!
@@chrisandlife.5768 not really! 600 sq inches is not that large, lots of experienced owners have their enclosures over 1000 sq inches to provide their hamster a happy, enriched life!
Agreed. 600 sq inches definitely isn’t the biggest amount of space, but compared to what I had before, I believe it is a drastic improvement, and I’m very glad to have found Victoria’s channel! I am still learning and growing, and am currently in the process of upgrading my hamster’s enclosure. :)
Yes my hamster Nala use to live in a like 130 sq cage. But then I started watching Victoria’s videos and learned about bin cage and she is now living in a 521sq in cage with a sand bath lots of hideouts and toys. Also now I scatter feed her and provide her with herbs. 😄
I had a hamster that wasn't big on being held or cuddled, but loved to be pet. There was a spot on my bookshelf next to my bed where he liked to hang out and groom himself. He was always in reach for me to pet if I wanted to. When free roaming, he'd periodically rub up against me for reassurance before going back to exploring. Even without the holding and cuddles, I felt like we had a very strong bond. He was one of those heart animals. I knew at the pet store. He was the only one who ran up to the glass of the enclosure they were in like he wanted to know me better. He ended up living 2 1/2 years and never once bit me.
Where does she/he live? And do you have her/his contact info to share? I would always love to adopt a hamster from an ethic breeder, instead of buying one from the pet store!!! Thanks! :)
@@yolenda_loves_to_sing They're in the United Kingdom on a little tiny street. They don't have any real contact information and you'd have to meet them in person first. Sorry.. :(
Yes, hamster character forms from the 1st day of being born. 🐹 my cute hamster called Snowball is quite frendly and will not bite strong. Bought her from pet shop.
I work at a big box pet store... we had a hamster come in with some neurological issues, so he wasnt able to be sold and his fate was a trip to the vet... I knew from the moment him and I locked eyes that he was mine and that I was his... he's been at home with me for 2 weeks now, he's already awake when I come in after work, he knows my voice and will come out of his burrow to greet me. I love this lil man so much, and I'm so glad I was there to be able to give him his best lil life❤️❤️❤️
When I adopted my little syrian hamster it took her about 1 week to settle down, she had a bad past. Her old owners where younger and didn't understand that she was a living thing and not a toy. She was super skittish at the start but now when I tap on her cage gentally she comes running and hops onto my hand without a second thought. She's honestly the sweetest angel ever, it takes time. You can't force or rush trust, it might take forever but patience is key. Good luck guys! :)
i tried to feed my hamster after 3 days i realised it was a bit too quick since he started to freak out and hide now i feel bad and im scared he hates me now 😭
So, I bought my daughter a hamster many years ago before I ever watched UA-cam and it was a struggle. Now I look back and wish I had all the knowledge I have now from watching your videos. I feel bad for the animal we had because we had literally no idea what she needed from us and we made the mistake of taking instructions from PetCo employees that were just trying to sell products. Some day when I have more time to invest in a small pet, I will absolutely give it another go bc I know I could be so much better! Until then, I'll just keep learning from your videos and enjoying watching your interact with all your little cuties! Thanks for being an amazing human 🧡
That’s so sad. Yea whenever I first got my hamster Leo he wasn’t getting the best care. And then I found Victoria and he now has a very different life!
The first hamster I got is Cupcake and Roger and we cant take care of them bc i dunno how to care for them and they died bc of the water and my mum sterilizing the hamster R.I.P Cupcake and Roger😭❤
My hamster passed away some weeks ago. She was such a fascinating hamster because she loved everyone from the very minute. She bonded with me from the first day and would sit and eat on my hand. When I put her back in the cage she would jump at the glass to be let out again. (She had a large custom cage so I knew this wasn't a boredom sign). I miss her.
What was their name? I recently lost my hamster, Henri. He was about 2 years old, and lived in a custom tank that my dad and I built off of Victoria’s plans. He was a sassy boy, and towards the last few months of having him he would jump at the plexiglass wanting attention whenever he heard my voice. 😞❤️
@@Empressette she was called babcia (Polish for grandmar) as I adopted her when she was over 2years. Despite her age she was very active and happy. She did have a problem with her back feet when I adopted her possibly from genetics or having a too small wheel. I think she passed away from wet tail. It was a school morning and I didn't know at the time so I couldn't take her for antibiotics. I feel very guilty.. I'm also very sorry for your loss.
@@write_read7583 Don’t feel guilty, hon. At over 2 years old, I really don’t think it was your fault. I’m sure you did the best you could for Babcia, and that they are resting easy now. ❤️
I used to have a hamster. He was really nice and sweet and never bit me, but he was the most introverted little man I had ever met lol He loved to sleep and burrow, and the only time he came up was to get something to eat and drink (which was always at midnight). He wasn't even that fond of his wheel or any of the enrichment items I gave him. The only thing he really liked was when I cleaned out his cage and scattered herbs and healthy treats around. Then you'd see him for maybe max 5 minuets before he went back to his house lol I loved that hamster tho, he was the sweetest and was such a character
I had a hamster in my 20s and he was truly one of a kind. I felt such a deep connection with him more than any dog or any cat I had before. He was my baby! I loved him so much! He was the sweetest, so chill so nice! He got really old and started to get a lot of health problems I cried so much when he died. I loved him so much I had him tattooed on me. After him, I had other hamsters and it was never the same. Until recently, I adopted this female hamster and she is so sweet. It's still recent but so far so good. She reminds me a little of my lovely hamster and that brings me so much joy.
This was good to see, I needed some hamster content as my sweet little bean passed this morning. She lived for 2 and 1/2 years, and she always loved it when I made her noodles to munch on. I was fortunate enough to be able to snuggle her as she took her last breaths. We’ll miss you, Cookie.
I had a Syrian hamster when I was 11 years old. He cried for the first day coming home from the pet shop, and then he was fine. He never bit me once, handled him every day just sitting on the sofa watching TV with him sitting on my hand or shoulder. Lived for over 3 years. I miss him
That's awesome that your hamster is learning to trust you and bond...however I notice you called them a "she", it's not a good idea to assume our fur babies gender... (Jus kiddin')
These are just generally awesome tips for any small rodent, I recommend basically the same things for bonding with gerbils, love the tissue, jug and bonding pouch ideas though! I haven't really considered them before, they're definitely some great tools to have handy ☺️
Hello, do you have any suggestions for wanting to own a hamster in Jamaica? Hamsters are rare pets here and the standard of care for them is very low. I feel like i could give mine a better life than in the pet store but my main issue is that we only have pine bedding islandwide and importing is too expensive. Victoria may not see this but i would really appreciate if other hamster owners think i can use pine bedding if it is truly the only option i have in my country
@@Natalia-kn9lt do you have any kind of paper bedding? Or teabag bedding? Or failing that I'd probably go for pesticide and fertilizer free soil rather than pine as pine emits compounds which can cause irritation to rodents (even humans can get irritated by it - and kiln drying doesn't remove all the problem compounds unfortunately)
This is so helpful! My first hamster had no problem being handled, my second was very skittish and it took a couple months to handle her. Both of my babies passed at just over 2 years of age, and I brought home my 3rd hamster about 5 weeks ago, and she’s my first biter! She got me once already, so I’m trying to take it slow. The only time I can pet her is when she’s preoccupied with stuffing her pouches from her food bowl. She’ll take treats from my finger but that’s about it. I sat with her in the tub but she started screeching after a bit so I put her back in her enclosure. I’m in it for the long haul!
@@diellalala thank you! I sat in her huge playpen with her tonight but she only freaked out and started screeching again. I’ve never had an experience like this was a hammy before 😞
I know how hard it is! I rescued a 5 month old hamster who was surrendered. Her brother and sisters were all surrendered. They were individually put inside tiny little containers!! With only 5 holes for air to come in/out. When I got her, she bit a lot. We did a lot of training by watching these type of videos. She slowly gained my trust! I was able to pick her up and she loved to be on my sweater. Now, she bites a lot more! It was like she switched the nice mode off and became aggressive. I am so devastated, but, its a process! I will have to gain her trust again!
be patient! remember if you stay consistent your hamham is going to open up sooner or later. I have had one of these difficult blobbers as my first hamster, but luckily my second one (I got him yesterday) is much calmer by first impression. He is so calm in fact, that I have no idea how he is managing this. I would have been freaking out and screaming everywhere if I were a hamster lol
Mine used to be really scared of people and then after 2 weeks of having her, she loves me. She falls asleep on me sometimes and its amazing. This never would have happened of it weren't for you! Thank you so much!❤❤❤
This channel has changed my perspective on animals. I used to love to going to pet smart and looking at the animals there but now I know where they actually come from. I rescued a Syrian hamster a few months ago and if it weren’t for this channel he’d be living in a small cage.
Just like humans, animals have unique personalities. Thanks Victoria for another great video ... you are a hamster whisper and I'm very greatful for all of your advice and i've put into practice. I absolutely love sprinkling the herbs, I'm looking forward to your next video. I have a ghost Syrian hamster and watching these videos has enabled me to give him a good, happy life x
That's funny. You basically said nothing. "Just like 'animals'(humans), 'animals' have unique personalities." Of course. That's the case. This is what I get going on a video catering to 12 year old girls...
@@ZeddicusTheMage Thanks for your reply... everyone is entitled to their own opinion... not sure why you have found it nessassay to comment on mine just because of my comment on personalities... you must be a very unhappy person that you have nothing good to say. Take care... I think you will find all ages watch these videos
@@ZeddicusTheMage Your reply was unnecessary. I'm 27 and I watch this channel. Also, bold of you to assume every 12 year old is the same. Why did you even bother replying if you were going to be a smartass about it? Get over yourself.
it was a huge surprise to me how easy it was to tame my hamster, it only took 2 days for him to feel very comfortable with me and he was way more stressed when picked up with a mug than with my bare hands, also he hated bathtub bonding so instead I put him on my lap and he sat there very gladly before starting to run around the room
I am a senior, and have had one hamster at a time most of my life. Even, at University in the Dorm. At the moment I have a female ROBO HAMSTER and she is one of the sweetest ever. I was able to purchase her at a very young age due to an unforeseen breeding At the pet store. She comes when she is called, loves to interact, be brushed, etc. Very entertaining and lovable!!!! Love ❤️ your videos.
hey tori, i’m so happy you posted again, i missed your videos lots!! i can’t wait to watch this video, i’m sure it’s going to be so helpful and amazing as always. but i wanted to say it’s ok if you want to have a break every now and then and that i hope you’re doing ok. i know posting every week can be hard and draining sometimes and that you can feel tired from it. you deserve a rest to enjoy your life off youtube with your pets, family and friends. and i hope you know that me and all your other supporters will always be there to have your back and will support your decisions in whatever they are. you are an amazing influencer and i’m so grateful i found your channel. idk what id do without your videos, they are always so helpful and always make my weekend better when i watch them. i’ve gotten so many more tips for my hamster care and my hamster bean is enjoying life so much more from when i found your channel. i love you so much and overall i hope you’re feeling ok!! thank you so much!! 😊
I had a dwarf hamster named Lily and she was perfect!!! She has the most beautiful personality I have ever seen in an animal. She was attentive and sweet and gentle. She would fall asleep in my pocket or hand. She loved getting massages. I doubt I'll ever get a hamster like her again but I do pretty well with animals. I'm excited to get another baby
It was the best thing that happened to me this week that I could see in this video! I felt better about it! (I'm sorry I couldn't make a relevant comment right now)
Im saving up money so I can get another hamster soon so ill be rewatching your hamster care videos :D! My current hamster is doing really well but since he is 1.8 months old I see her slowing down a little, but she is still strong and healthy ❤. Thank you tori for making my hamsters life so much better quality! Great video!
i just got a hamster for christmas (christmas eve im german so you open your presents on christmas eve) i have had her for 2 days and basically i love her so much i watch her every night she is just so wonderful thank you for the tips!
I reacently got my second hamster and am bonding with her before i start building her new cage next week, this video is extreamly helpfull! thank you so much!
Thank you.Thank you.Thank you so much for these videos. I recently got my son a hamster. And obviously I'm the primary care giver.I watched your videos to prepare and used the advice given. We have had the hamster six months at this point. This is the most well-adjusted friendliest hamster i have ever encountered in my entire life. He is extremely social with us And exhibits no anxiety while we handle him. Your videos very much helped us to have a good experience for our family for myself And most of all for the hamster.thank you so much for these videos!!!!!!!
This was a very helpful video Victoria! You have really helped me with my hamster care, and got me interested in owning hamsters and helping to educate people about hamsters! Now my hamster is living in a 100x50x50cm enclosure (which I am hoping to upgrade soon), 10 inches bedding, 11 inch wheel, and plenty of herbs and enrichment. I can't thank you enough! 💕
Couldn't have picked a better time to release this one! I just brought home a syrian Hamster a couple of days ago and it's killing me to just leave him alone! He brings my current total up to 4 hamsters but I haven't owned a syrian since my first hamster passed. He's in a 75 gallon aquarium and I'm no stranger to bonding with a hamster, but having a refresher like this is never a bad thing!
@@VictoriaRaechel I believe it's going to go great, when I went to pick him up to put him in his new home, he just climbed up and chilled on my hand, he seems really sweet and I can't wait to properly meet him.
I have a syrian hamster, i got him a few weeks ago and youre guiding me so fast! We've been bonding alot and he always climbs up my arms and sleeps on my shoulder and in the hoodie! Also you're really pretty
I've been working with an aggressive Dwarf hybrid. There for a while I had to wear gloves. He's starting to come around but, like you've said, it's taking a lot of time, patience, and consistency. I don't have to wear gloves any more and only get bit hard on occasion. He's still easily over-stimulated and becomes more aggressive at times but I'm not having the daily experience of a him literally chomping down and not letting go. I'm not sure if we will ever bond in a way that he sees me as a friend but I'm not giving up. Anything I can do to help ease his stress about my mere presence is still a win.
My hamster(pumpkin spice) turned 3 this September 5th, and he's recently started signs of dying soon, like getting overly energetic and bitey, and i just want yo make his last few weeks nice. Thanks for this and over all- your cannel. If it werent for you I wouldn't have known NEARLY as much as I do about hamsters. Pumpkin is old and yet is still such a sweetheart. A scruffy lil winter white, who acts just like his dad did. He's outlived all of his siblings and his parents, from six to one. I'm so proud of him
I got my hamster at 8 weeks and now she’s nearly 10 months and she’s made so much improvement and we have quite a good bond so far but I’m still trying to get a better bond since it’s not the best but it takes time and effort and it really isn’t this easy thing to do and I feel like more ppl need to understand that anyway have a good day/night
I’m actually so thankful for your channel. Educating pet owners of all ages on proper care to give their animals the best lives possible! Keep up the amazing work, we appreciate you so much!!! 💕🥰🐹
This is such a good video!! You have helped me improve my hamster care so much and I just don't know what my hamster's life would look like without you!!! I have been watching you for 2 years now and I can't believe how much my hamster care has improved. Thank you so much for sharing all of this information with the world and if you ever feel like this is pointless, just remember how many people you have helped. Practically all of these comments think the same!!! thank you so much, Victoria we all love you so much!!!!💖
Hey Victoria, you probably don’t remember me but about a year ago I commented on one of your hamster videos asking how long should I leave my Syrian hamster for seeing as I just got him, he is almost one year old now and I love him to bits 🥰 I just want to thank u for your videos. They have helped me with my dream of keeping a hamster and looking after them 🙏🏻 keep doing what your doing and hope to follow your guides for hamsters forever 😅.his name is Kirbie btw 🙂👋🏼
Ok, but seriously. Last night, Boone was out and he wasn’t climbing into my hand to go to his free roam room. And I thought “Huh, maybe we are not bonded completely?” And then, today. I came to this video AND YOU MADE A VIDEO ABOUT ITTTTT! I’m freaking out man! Thanks for the tips Tori! ❤️❤️
If they don't jump on your hand always it's not necessarily a sign they aren't bonded to you, my hamsters may not always climb onto my hand but it doesn't change whether they're bonded to me or not! 🥰
@@VictoriaRaechel Thanks! Yeah, he normally sits in my hand, but maybe he just wasn’t having it! I also tried to pick him up with a oatmeal container (it’s the same size as the measuring cup you used) and he climbed right in! Thanks again for the helpful tips!
Thank you for another amazing video! All of the hard work and time you put into these videos really show your commitment to us and also you animals. Also hope you had an amazing Xmas and a very happy new year 🤍🤍🤍
I' ve had great bond with my hamster, when I was a teenager. She was a sirian hamster, I've bought her at the local pet store, and she was in pregnant. Never before and after, I had such a cool hamster. Once she escaped the cage, but I've started calling her, and she came back.
I have a hammy too and his name is Chocolate Truffle, I hadn't realized that I needed a bigger hamster enclosure until I started watching your vids. My first hamster Cinnabon never had a big enclosure, but she didn't live long because she had tumors.
I've been so lucky, my hammy has been so cuddly and loving since day 3. I couldn't of been more blessed for my 1st. He cleans himself right up against my leg every night, he is a happy lil guy. Hammy Davis Jr has my ❤
When I got my hamster he would dart under his house, he would stay in that same spot and not come out. To get him use to me I would just sit outside his cage but not doing anything so he would come out and look at me. One day I had his cage door open and came up sniffed me and got onto my hand. Now a year or so on he's completely chill and completely fine putting my hand in his cage. For me the best way is not to force your hamster and let him/her come to you when they're ready.
Thanks so much for these tips Victoria! My 2 and a half year old hamster is very picky with treats but he loves crawling onto my hand to go out for playtime :) Keep up the great vids!!
I recently had my first Syrian pass away and she was the best, she would sleep on me is I brought her out, she’d sometimes sleep on my neck, get on my head and shoulders sometimes, and LOVED my fuzzy jackets and her blankets, that’s what I call a real bond, sadly she had only a 10 gallon cage with a tank topper but I’ve learned now and now have a 50 gal 200 qt bin filled with everything and now am waiting for get my 2nd hammie.
I've had my hamster 3 days now and I've only actually seen him twice. He won't come out of his burrow unless we have left the room, and as soon as we walk back in he hides away again. I've never had a hamster this timid before!! He has taken food out of my hand once so far so I'm really hoping he will realise I'm not scary and be able to bond with me eventually
i am getting my first hamster soon. your videos are teaching me so much. So glad I found your channel. hopefully I will be able to provide a happy home for thanks to you.
Hi Victoria you have honestly helped me and my sister so much with hamster care if it wasn’t for me finding your Chanel my new male Syrian would be living with a tiny cage and a horrible wheel with 2 inches of bedding I honestly hope you become more famous so that more people can find your Chanel and follow the correct hamster care
My hamster took almost 2years to bond It was very hard taming him But after i fully tamed him he was such a good boy and so cuteeee!!! After a few weeks he passed away tho He was and always will be my favorite
i’m so glad i have such a calm hamster, we got her from a pet store and after a day or two i put my hand near her to smell and she walked right on a couple times and instantly accepted treats from my hand, i’m so glad she’s comfortable and the closest i’ve had to a bite is her tasting my finger after giving her a treat 🤣
To make things simple, just try to spend as much free time you have with your pet hamster. He or she will appreciate that! 🐹 My hamster a cute dwarf hamster called Snowball. I wish i could spend more time with her. Thats how the bonding happens. ❤
I'm so glad you posted this! Someone gave me a hamster about a week ago, they didn't take care of her very well and she is super scared of people. Thank you!❤❤❤
Hello Victoria! Our 10 year old has recently taken a huge interest in getting a pet hamster. We still haven't decided if she is ready. We informed her that she needed to do research in keep hamsters as pets. She has been watching your videos and learning a lot. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on books she could read?
i got so excited when i saw this on my recommended! this has been something i've been working on with my hamster lately so THANK YOU for this video!!!!
I have 3 hamsters, 2 syrians and a winter white The winter white fell in love with me in the first day; he was so curious about my hand going inside of his enclosure and tried to climb it My first syrian does the same but it took a little bit of time with him Both of them come out of their hides every time they hear me opening the enclosure's lid. My 3rd hamster was like the first one but after escaping his enclosure, he lost all the trust and now he cant even look at me without running away. Im trying to get his trust back but its very hard :(
I recently got a Chinese and she also somehow escaped and darts back into her burrows whenever I walk in. But that doesn’t change how much I love her ❤️
I’ve just about tamed my winter white/Russian dwarf hamster and my gosh it was a mission!! He hated all food and treats until after a week of him being with us and would only eat from inside his wheel. Very strange and out of all the hamsters I’ve had he’s been the most difficult!! I tried so many different foods. Veg, fruit, dehydrated fruit, baby food, baby treats, dog treats, seeds, mealworms, forage, chicken, regular hamster treats… literally everything imaginable! Eventually he just learnt to trust me and have fun when he’s out and he’s also grown a lot more since I got him which makes me think he’s a lot younger than the rescue expected, which could have been a barrier for us. It’s taken a month so far but honestly I don’t mind he’s such a huge reward in himself!! 😍🥰
Thanks for these tips, I've now had my hamster for a year and she is really tame but I still use some of these methods to keep her used to my presence :) edit: Any ideas on how to get my hamster from biting me when she is on my hand? She always chews my clothes and then sometimes bites my finger when I am least expecting it. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, this just started a few days ago...:(
Hello Sapphire, One of my hamsters nibbles on my fingers if she thinks I have food or I just had food in my hand, but not a skin breaking bite. Maybe wash your hands before interacting with your hamster to remove any food smells. My hamster has also bit me and my friend breaking skin as a defensive action. My friend was holding the other hamster and the hamsters got too close and she tried to bite the hamster but got my friend's finger (Syrians really need to be kept separate, even during play time). Another time I was trying to scruff her to check her teeth (picking up by the loose skin on the back of their neck, the other hamster lets me do this), but she twisted around and bit my finger, drawing blood. I haven't scruffed her since, but I wait for her to yawn to check the length of her teeth. So make sure you are not doing anything that is scaring or annoying your hamster.
@@donnarn2727 Thank you so much Donna, I don't think I have been doing any of those things wrong because I can scruff her just fine and she has had no contact to other hamsters (I only have one :). I think when she bit me it might have been because she was expecting more food haha. Thank you still and I will try to me even more careful :)
Victoria, thank you! From watching you you made me be able to get my first hamster! I asked my mom and she said I wasn’t ready and that if I could take care of a fake stuffed animal hamster I can get a real one. If it wasn’t for you I would have “killed” my “hamster” because it would be in a 50 square inches cage, a 5 inch wheel, and 10 centimeters of bedding with no toys in a wired cage. Now I proved my mom I can get a hamster and now i’m getting a hamster and I have a bin cage with 650 square inches of floor space, around 8-10 inches of bedding, 4 different hides, lots of things to scavenge, toys, and a sand bath (aka reptile sand) THANK YOU!! 💗💗
when i first got my hamster he was already completely socialized and used to handling (he'd immediately climb into my hand and he'd often come out to see me if he heard me outside of his enclosure) so i kind of rushed through the bonding process cause it didn't seem necessary at the time. But the older he is the less social he becomes and the more he's avoiding me so now i can't help but wonder if our relationship would have been better if i took the time and did the bonding process slowly... Can't really fix that anymore but I'll make sure not to make this mistake again 😔
Got my hamster today and he crawled straight into my hand, it blew my mind! He keeps doing it too. When I saw him at the pet store he was sleeping at the front door of his house for everyone to see, it was the cutest thing ever. I’ve had hamsters before but they were always finicky. Thanks for the tips! Going to try out bathtub bonding.
Victoria I've been subscribe to you in 2 years ago... And my mom is getting me a 2 Hamster...and thankyou for teaching me for 2 Year's about hamsters cats and bunny's...so i know now what i will do to my hamster to make them happy, healthy and bond with thank you so much i love you stay safe....
I had a ghost hamster who turned around when I started free roaming. I lay on the floor and watch videos or movies on my tablet while my hamster runs around the room. Ive placed Niteangel houses along the floor up against the wall, placed several wheels out (all types) and added additional hiding places. Ive made it an extension of their home so they feel safe. Between doing that and staying in there on the floor with them, it’s really helped me bond with all of my Syrian hamsters. My ghost hamster has completely changed, is more confident and even lets me pet him. He’s a totally different hamster. Keep in mind he was a ghost hamster for a year so I agree it can take quite awhile. My other hamsters are just so more bonded with me since introducing free roaming.
i’m so happy! i just got my hamster yesterday, he is a russian dwarf and i named him panchito he’s really shy but when i put my hand in his new home, he instantly went up on me and it felt so weird!!! i love him so much and i owe you a bunch you taught me a lot about hamsters and i’m so glad i have one now
My hamster was left in a critter trail in an apartment building after the tenants left and they left her there. I adopted her from my local humane society but she's very uncomfortable with humans so I believe something traumatic happened with her. It took her a while to get used to me even being in the room while she is awake but we've made great progress and I have you to thank! I wouldn't know how to properly take care of her if it weren't for you so, thank you Victoria!
Thank you for teaching people how to raise hamsters properly. I have two Syrian hamsters called Fanta and Coca Cola. My parents bought them in a pet store and we bought them a small cage thinking it was normal for them. If it wasn't for your videos, my hamsters would be living in poor conditions. Now, I bought them a big bin cage (more than 450 square inches), they are separated, I give them bedding that is more than 6 inches, and I started to do research. The issue I have is that it has been a while and Fanta and Coca Cola still are not used to me. I think it is because in the Pet Store, their cage was opened and people were touching them, and moving their hide for them to get out.
I recently lost my Syrian hamster and she was the sweetest girl, she loved to come out, loved human interaction and was a very cuddly hamster, which is very different to my Robo, he’s very skittish and doesn’t enjoy human interaction as much, he allows me to stroke him sometimes however he’s all for being left on his own, he is very food motivated though and loves lettuce, cabbage and banana, which has caused him to greet me by his cage door if he realised that I have food. What I am trying to say is yes, not every hamster is the same and appreciates human interaction, however they can all be appreciated and loved!
After doing research and binging your channel me and my boyfriend bought a russian white yesterday. It's our first hamster and I can't belive he is ours! 😍 We were lucky to find a super serious and acclaimed breeder in our area! 😀 We named the hamster Tofu and now we are letting him settle in. We are excited to learn about his sleep schedule and start to handle him! Thanks for all your great and informative videos! 🥰
Every hamster is different! I've had 50 or so since I was 8 years old... each one so different. There are some I have really bonded with strongly and I still miss them. I had one that slept with me every day after I got back from school. Never had one like that since, but all are cool in their own ways.
I got my first hamster 2 and a half years ago. Her name was Cocoa and she was my world. I watched SO many of your videos before I even got her and I did my research. I remember doing all of the steps from this video with her and we bonded SO well. I think that she was one of those "heart pets" that you spoke of bc she and I had a connection that was very special ever since I first laid eyes on her. She loved to spend time with me and I loved her with all of my heart. I recently lost her due to old age and it broke me. I loved her so much. But I decided on getting another hamster so I'm doing all of my research again, just in case. I'm anxious that the new hamster won't have this special connection with me as my last hamster did. So I'm hoping for the best. Thank you for all of your videos Victoria. And for letting me have a place to vent. ❤
Got a Russian dwarf last week and I'm watching all your videos to get tips on taming him and caring for him. Glad I found your videos before I got him, because I was initially going to buy a small cage. He now has a 80x50cm cage, with lots of bedding and a sand bath, and he's loving it.
The bit where u talked about a heart pet took me right back to when I first got my cat, he's been missing for about a year and as soon as he came home, he never ran up to the person who brought him home, he never ran up to my mum, my brother, no. He ran up to me, he slept with me and used my blanket. Whenever he went outside and wouldn't come back in, he would listen to no one, he wouldn't let anyone pick him up but he let me and ALWAYS came over when I called him. He absolutely loved me but one day he got let out and never came back...
I'm having a big struggle with my hamster. Since the beginning of our time together, I had to take her to the vet due to mites. I remember the vet trying to grab my hamster to give her medicine; it definiteley was a very traumatic experience for her. She was screaming so much. I feel like this way is going to be so hard to tame and build a bond with her, but I don't want to give up. I'll keep trying with these cool tips. You're so cool, Victoria!
I bought a playpen and a snugglesack and i will receive it tuesday. I really do hope i can bond with my hammie that way. I have him for a week now and useing your waddles and tator tot videos. I wasn't able to lift him out yet since he isn't comfortable to sit on my hand yet. It takes time, but i love him already! Love your videos! They are so helpfull! ❤🐹
Thank you so much! Your channel has helped me create a good set up for my hamster! He has a better diet and a way bigger cage than when I first got him! ❤️ Thank you!!
I’ve only just started watching your vids because I’m getting a hamster soon I’ve been learning how to hold them and good cage sizes from my very good friends, all I can say is I’m so exited
My first hamster is a great example of me having to learn that not all hamsters are big cuddle monsters. It took some time for both me and him to learn each other's signals and I ended up concluding that he just wasn't that much into big bonding sessions. He was friendly and curious, but he was a "on MY terms" hamster. He didn't enkoy free-roaming or being outside his cage much. But we did bond, and he was tame and bonded enough for me to be able to cut his nails. He wasn't a ghost hamster, but he wasn't a cuddle-in-human's-lap-for-hours hamster either. I loved him, and he was happy and healthy until he passed over the rainbow bridge three weeks before his 2,5 years birthday. Just got my new 6 months old Syrian today and having to catch up on my bonding-knowledge. I had forgotten how timid and shy they can be on their first day, even when already used to handling!
@@VictoriaRaechel OMG! i never noticed this because i havent been watching youtube lately, but tysm for replying! i watched you everytime i got the chance!
My hamster came from a bad environment and you could tell, she was so shy and skittish, always scared when someone entered the room. It took some months a a lot of patience until she finally started to open up and curiosity got the better of her. Now she eats out of my hand, enjoys freeroam time and is waiting in her cage in the evening until she can get out. At the beginning I felt really stressed myself cause she would not respond to anything and just hide away. Only after some time I relaxed and understood that even if she would always be like that I would still love her. But soon she started to become less shy and now we are best pals 🤍
i just got my long haired syrian hammy, right when i put him in, he was eating, chewing on his toys, and really chill. he was so curious. i was expecting him to be a little more stressed, but hes so relaxed. kind of strange…but good!! anyways great video! definitely going to try these tips.
getting a hamster next week!! been binge watching your videos, found a suitable bin cage, and a little house and a cork wheel 💜 thank you for educating and making these videos. the sales lady at the local pet store tried to tell me that dwarf hamsters need a small cage because it would be the same as a human living in a castle otherwise 😭 thanks to you, i did not listen to her advice at all
I got a hamster 2yrs ago from petco and for the first few months if you tried fo touch her she would let out a bad scream ☹ & bite you...She is squirmy when being held but when she sees me she perks up and starts begging to come out and run around the house every night during our playtime now. I just let her be herself and do her own thing. 🥰❤🐹 It seems to have helped now she won't leave me alone 👀...I love your videos 🥰❤ They've taught me a lot. Pooh Bear 🐹 Thanks you ❤
Hey Victoria, I would like to say a huge thank you for every single video you have ever made. My Campbell's Dwarf Hamster Hammy passed away peacefully recently in his carved coconut aged 2 years and 2 months. Your videos have made me a much better hamster owner, I made Hammy a much larger bin cage then the store bought cage I was given because of your videos, I made him some of your hamster treat recipes, and the playpen also. I also learned better ways to handle him, about hamster history and behaviours, and more. I am genuinely so grateful that I found your channel, as I know I wouldn't have ever known his original cage was too small. I do not mean to sound like I am looking for attention, I am just trying to show my thanks for all you have done for Hammy And I. 💜 Thank you so much for everything.
My hamster is not necessarily fond of being held but he loves running around on the couch and if he goes to close to the edge I just call his name and say "watch out" and he turns around and walks back to safety 😂 very handy
OMG THATS SOOO CUTEEEEEEE
That’s so adorable!
OMG ADORABLE
Awe😊
So cute😊
If it weren't for you my Syrian hamster Toffee would be living in a tiny cage with a 4" wheel and less than an inch of bedding. She's currently living in a cage with almost 600 square inches of floor space and more than 6 inches of bedding! She has a proper wheel now and a beautiful natural setup. All thanks to your channel! I am so thankful to have found it! Toffee is also a new hamster and this video is perfect for learning how to bond with her! :)
Update: I'm planning to get the NiteAngel Vista enclosure (the large size!) in the spring or early summer (they're currently all out of stock in my area). It exceeds 1000 sq in and I am so excited for this upgrade!! Again, thanks so much!
Holy moly that’s a lot of space.
Ok y’all are right, I was so dumb lol.
Just like my Pahulina did, God bless their tiny souls ♥️
God bless these tiny creatures
Such a nice owner and well behaved hamster. ❤
How come they die so soon😢
I get my hamsters from an elderly person who's been breeding them for nearly 40 years. They're always super tame, healthy, and love human interaction.
That’s right
A big difference
I think we've all been there! What matters is you've learned for the better and can help another hamster thrive one day! Thank you! ❤️❤️
The first hamster I got is Cupcake and Roger and we cant take care of them bc i dunno how to care for them and they died bc of the water and my mum sterilizing the hamster
R.I.P Cupcake and Roger😭❤
ya most pets take so much care than most people realize
I'm very sorry for your loss ❤️ It sounds like she touched your heart in many ways
@@write_read7583 Don’t feel guilty, hon. At over 2 years old, I really don’t think it was your fault. I’m sure you did the best you could for Babcia, and that they are resting easy now. ❤️
@@Empressette thanks ,the cage just feels empty without her running back to her hide with full cheeks and a funny limp.
Me and my hamster watched this together. He was on my hand, so still. We loved the vid.
I used to have a hamster. He was really nice and sweet and never bit me, but he was the most introverted little man I had ever met lol
He loved to sleep and burrow, and the only time he came up was to get something to eat and drink (which was always at midnight). He wasn't even that fond of his wheel or any of the enrichment items I gave him.
The only thing he really liked was when I cleaned out his cage and scattered herbs and healthy treats around. Then you'd see him for maybe max 5 minuets before he went back to his house lol
I loved that hamster tho, he was the sweetest and was such a character
I had a hamster in my 20s and he was truly one of a kind. I felt such a deep connection with him more than any dog or any cat I had before. He was my baby! I loved him so much! He was the sweetest, so chill so nice! He got really old and started to get a lot of health problems I cried so much when he died. I loved him so much I had him tattooed on me. After him, I had other hamsters and it was never the same. Until recently, I adopted this female hamster and she is so sweet. It's still recent but so far so good. She reminds me a little of my lovely hamster and that brings me so much joy.
I just like to think that we’re so lucky to have these beautiful creatures! they do not deserve to be popular animals for everyone..🙃
Hahaha I agree with you
I agree- they are more than the stereotyped '8 year olds first pet'
This was good to see, I needed some hamster content as my sweet little bean passed this morning. She lived for 2 and 1/2 years, and she always loved it when I made her noodles to munch on. I was fortunate enough to be able to snuggle her as she took her last breaths. We’ll miss you, Cookie.
I had a Syrian hamster when I was 11 years old. He cried for the first day coming home from the pet shop, and then he was fine. He never bit me once, handled him every day just sitting on the sofa watching TV with him sitting on my hand or shoulder. Lived for over 3 years. I miss him
I’ve had my hamster for 3 weeks and she recently started taking treats from me and climbing on my hand! Thank you for the tips:)
That's awesome that your hamster is learning to trust you and bond...however I notice you called them a "she", it's not a good idea to assume our fur babies gender...
(Jus kiddin')
So happy for u!! :)
You're doing great! Sending much love and strength to both you and your hammy. I'm sure with time and patience, you two will become great friends!
Thank you so much!❤❤❤
i feel like every hamster owner should be like Victoria, i seriously adore ur videos and pets
This channel has changed my perspective on animals. I used to love to going to pet smart and looking at the animals there but now I know where they actually come from. I rescued a Syrian hamster a few months ago and if it weren’t for this channel he’d be living in a small cage.
I say, comparing your hamster to other hamsters is like your mom comparing you to other children.
At the moment I have a female
ROBO HAMSTER and she is one of the sweetest ever. I was able to purchase her at a very young age due to an unforeseen breeding
At the pet store. She comes when she is called, loves to interact, be brushed, etc. Very entertaining and lovable!!!! Love ❤️ your videos.

Hello pancake! I love ur content :>
Aw congrats on your new friend! I hope everything goes well!
@@VictoriaRaechel I believe it's going to go great, when I went to pick him up to put him in his new home, he just climbed up and chilled on my hand, he seems really sweet and I can't wait to properly meet him.
My hamster passed away last night i just want to thank you for giving him the best life possible I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you 🥺💔
I have a syrian hamster, i got him a few weeks ago and youre guiding me so fast!

My hamster is a whole vibe😂 while he's in his cage he follows me everywhere once he's out within a blink he disappears

My Hamster is almost 2 months!
The taming tips worked and he is doing really well!
I needed this a lot right now, I never had hamsters and I will in a short time to learn how to tame and bond, thanks
My hamster took almost 2years to bond
It was very hard taming him
But after i fully tamed him he was such a good boy and so cuteeee!!!
After a few weeks he passed away tho
He was and always will be my favorite
i’m so glad i have such a calm hamster, we got her from a pet store and after a day or two i put my hand near her to smell and she walked right on a couple times and instantly accepted treats from my hand, i’m so glad she’s comfortable and the closest i’ve had to a bite is her tasting my finger after giving her a treat 🤣
omg but she doesn’t like mealworms and my mice are OBSESSED
To make things simple, just try to spend as much free time you have with your pet hamster. He or she will appreciate that! 🐹 My hamster a cute dwarf hamster called Snowball. I wish i could spend more time with her. Thats how the bonding happens. ❤
I'm so glad you posted this! Someone gave me a hamster about a week ago, they didn't take care of her very well and she is super scared of people. Thank you!❤❤❤
Good luck!! ❤️
Hello Victoria! Our 10 year old has recently taken a huge interest in getting a pet hamster. We still haven't decided if she is ready. We informed her that she needed to do research in keep hamsters as pets. She has been watching your videos and learning a lot. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on books she could read?
go visit some hamster forums, good hamster books are hard to come by and mostly outdated.
i got so excited when i saw this on my recommended! this has been something i've been working on with my hamster lately so THANK YOU for this video!!!!
I have 3 hamsters, 2 syrians and a winter white
The winter white fell in love with me in the first day; he was so curious about my hand going inside of his enclosure and tried to climb it
My first syrian does the same but it took a little bit of time with him
Both of them come out of their hides every time they hear me opening the enclosure's lid.
My 3rd hamster was like the first one but after escaping his enclosure, he lost all the trust and now he cant even look at me without running away. Im trying to get his trust back but its very hard :(
I recently got a Chinese and she also somehow escaped and darts back into her burrows whenever I walk in. But that doesn’t change how much I love her ❤️
R they doing better with you now?
Thanks for these tips, I've now had my hamster for a year and she is really tame but I still use some of these methods to keep her used to my presence :)
edit: Any ideas on how to get my hamster from biting me when she is on my hand?
You are an angel to these adorable creatures
you're absolutely right 💙
I recently lost my Syrian hamster and she was the sweetest girl, she loved to come out, loved human interaction and was a very cuddly hamster, which is very different to my Robo, he’s very skittish and doesn’t enjoy human interaction as much, he allows me to stroke him sometimes however he’s all for being left on his own, he is very food motivated though and loves lettuce, cabbage and banana, which has caused him to greet me by his cage door if he realised that I have food.
Aw congrats to you both!
Every hamster is different! I've had 50 or so since I was 8 years old... each one so different. There are some I have really bonded with strongly and I still miss them. I had one that slept with me every day after I got back from school. Never had one like that since, but all are cool in their own ways.
thanks so much for this video. i have been having trouble bonding with my hamster recently. this video has been a source of inspiration for me.
I feel like this is my absolute favorite video of yours. 💗 The way you care truly shows in this more than ever. :)
Don't know if you'll ever see this, but this video helped not just with my 2 hamsters but my mice as well. Thank you so much ❤️
I'm having a big struggle with my hamster.
Thank you!!
I had forgotten how timid and shy they can be on their first day, even when already used to handling!
i remember watching you before i got my hamster, now she has passed but she was living so good! with the right essentials!
I'm sorry to hear about your loss!
Basically, it's a relationship. Like all relationships consent is key as well as spending time together.
getting a hamster next week!! been binge watching your videos, found a suitable bin cage, and a little house and a cork wheel 💜 thank you for educating and making these videos. the sales lady at the local pet store tried to tell me that dwarf hamsters need a small cage because it would be the same as a human living in a castle otherwise 😭 thanks to you, i did not listen to her advice at all
Good luck!!! 💖 Oh my 😅😅😅 She should read this post because it's not even close to a castle 💀instagram.com/p/CILzr-QAra5/?
@@VictoriaRaechel that's a wonderful post that explains it so well 😄 thank you!!
Pooh Bear 🐹 Thanks you ❤
Hey Victoria,
I would like to say a huge thank you for every single video you have ever made.
