    I used a pick tool to line it up with dowel pin and snugged bolt on it and tapped bottom of gear with a non impact hard plastic small hammer and bam it went right on. Nice job

    you make getting that cover back on look easy. I'm having a hell of a time with mine. only thing I see I could try is turning it to tdc so the crank key is facing up. (not a new chain. just fixing leaking cover/oil pan joint, so didnt have to set it to tdc)

    What a goober. Use a 4mm socket to remove the studs from the bottom of the timing cover and always dip the chain in oil before you put it on or you'll be doing the job again soon.

    Welcome to working on a General Motors built POS they are junk coming out of the factory, and terrible to try and work on, been a mechanic since 1977, and am convinced the best way to repair a GM properly is full coverage insurance, gasoline, and a match.

    You didn't torque the cam gear bolt to manufacturers recommended torque specifications ?? And you didn't oil the timing chain before replacing the timing chain cover !

    I bought a chain with the gears in rockauto brand DNJ I remember it cost about 25 dollars and after 2 years the tensioner began to make noise, disassembled and the chain and gears had more wear than the chain they changed and luckily I still had it, compare the two and the old chain and gear had less wear, I used the old chain and gears and put an ac delco tensioner on it and there it is 4 years later.

    I didn't see the oil pan removed... was the broken chain complete? or were there tiny parts everywhere? Another question is about the valves when this decided to crap out were any bent? I heard that this isn't an interference motor and there is no worry of damage to the valves. Can you confirm or disconfirm this? I have a 2000 s10 that crapped out the timing chain while being driven.

      I'm doing the timing chain on my 2.2L 4cyl Chevy S10 right now. The video I'm linking to here states (at the end of the video) that it is not an interference engine (valves don't touch the piston heads even if the timing is off) ua-cam.com/video/8nX5HARPSF4/v-deo.html I know, the girl is reading from a script but... they lay out the whole routine concisely. I'm sure we'd rathar listen to her, than her dad anyway! I'm getting an endoscope camera on Amazon for about 40.00. I'm going to look in the crankcase and pull out the parts that fell into the oil pan. Removing the pan looks like way more of a job than the timing chain. I'll pull out any pieces with a 4 pronged 36" grabber tool that's used for pulling hair out of drains. I sure as hell hope it works.

    how tight does the chain have to be on to opposite side of the tensioner when installing but before the pin is pulled on the tensioner? just a litle bit like in the video?

    • @theshootinggallery5621
      @theshootinggallery5621  4 роки тому

      After the pin is pulled it should be tight, should be no play in it at all

      @@theshootinggallery5621 yeah i got that part but when you installed it in the video you seemend to put tension on the opposite side of the tensioner im curious how tight that side has to be before the pin is pulled
      is it just so that no more links can be moved or do i need to turn the upper sprocket to get it really tight and then pull the pin to tighten the tensioner side side i hope i dont make it to confusing :D

    • @theshootinggallery5621
      @theshootinggallery5621  4 роки тому

      Both sides will be tight, the tensioner is to make sure it stays that way after a little wearing on the chain. If you do it you will see it's tight on both sides when the chain is new

    My sonoma 1999 went out to start it and it sounds like all of a sudden it jumped some toooths on the chain its just kinda starts for a few seconds and sound like it vapor locks or back fires is it possible to jump teeth on these trucks with that big timing chain?
