During this time there is a misconception that the style "Bunjin" in Bonsai. Some say Bunjin's style is the style of "old age", the Bonsai must be impressed thin, tall, old and miserable. whereas, this style is clearly referred to as "Bunjin" (Japanese) or "Literati" (English) which means "Poet"; in Mandarin it is called "Wen-ren".
According to Chinese Bonsai books and art literature, it is very vividly reviewed about its origin, the history of the style both in terms of culture and politics that influenced it and its philosophical significance.
As we know, Bonsai art originated in China and developed more than 1300 years ago during the Tang Dynasty. At that time, the development of art was very rapid, both painting, sculpture and calligraphy and literary knowledge was synonymous with positions in government.
Therefore, many poets, writers and intellectuals have emerged who have important positions in the kingdom because at that time the recruitment system was by state examination, and mastery of art and poetry was one aspect of the benchmark.
Simultaneously, the art of Bonsai (then called Penjing) developed rapidly as one of the objects of art in the kingdom and the elite.
Chinese Bonsai art is inseparable from the influence of Chinese painting, poetry and traditional cultural arts including calligraphy. From this point on, it became one of the inspirations of Bonsai artists who gave birth to the Bunjin style called "Shu hua shi penjing" by imitating the style, character and aesthetics of calligraphy that first developed; then later it is also called "Wen ren shu" or penjing poet style because the creators created it were poets, not the old-fashioned old ones like miserable poor poets!
Bunjin is a style of Bonsai art that is very full of cultural philosophy, literary romanticism, intellectual meaning; rich in imaginative expressionist lines and shapes; so in its way of appreciation it also requires an adequate level of insight with contemplation and interpretation, accompanied by a contextual aesthetic understanding.
Bunjin is a very personal work because it contains the emotions of the Bunjin style in accordance with the character of Chinese calligraphy.
