  • Custom Color Palettes: shop.thepaintp... I have been a very big fan of Benjamin Moore Aura paint for many years now. I've even painted my entire home with Aura Matte and not only does it look amazing, but it's been a dream to clean and maintain. When I heard that Benjamin Moore had released a new version of the paint I love so much, I was pretty ecstatic. Not only has the labelling changed, but so has the paint inside. Is it possible that the best paint just got better? I wanted to go over a few things that I heard about the old product that maybe were misconceptions, and how the new product looks to be addressing those.

    I agree with you, James. Benjamin Moore paint coverage is mostly why I buy it (in addition to the quality of their colors). My husband and I really enjoy painting when we use it.

    Wild timing of this! We just bought…a lot of Aura to paint our future baby room/office combo. The low VOC was why I went with it, well worth the cost. We primed with Fresh Start. We chose White Dove, eggshell for the wall, and White Dove semi gloss for baseboard,trim, and picture rails, and Newburg Green as an accent wall. We accidentally used the wrong sheen on the walls of White Dove for the first coat 😅 but used egg shell on the second are pleased with it. The dry time has been a learning curve for us, since this is the first room we’ve ever painted, but over all, it’s been good!

    Paint technology has really improved and it’s interesting to learn about the changes. This was really informative, James. Thank you.🌸

    I discovered the BM ScuffX paint on a brochure in my local family store. I asked about it and the owner took me in the back to show in the warehouse they painted one wall with it and even the fork lifts couldn’t take it out. We used it to repaint all of the garage, high traffic areas like pantry and it’s really amazing. But nobody ever talks about it.

      Thanks for the review Hefty! People use it for garages and that but you're right, so many other possible applications.

    We just had our paint contractor use Aura Pale Oak matte, two coats for our entire home. We used BM paint samples on the walls prior and the samples are creating a halo through Aura. When we get direct sunlight in the room you can really see the outlines of the samples. This is really disappointing for $90 paint.

      Pretty typical even with Sherwin Williams.Get a roller paint another coat over that area,typically take three coats to cover those.

    AURA Bath & Spa was my gateway drug into this line lol. Quick one - what sheen of AURA do you use/recommend for the kitchen? Thank you!

    Do they still recommend letting your cut ins dry before rolling? That was always a pain. Also the drag when brushing is hard on the wrist. Also there is no such thing as a one coat paint.

    For the few years through 2018 to 2020, there have been some to a few episodes of the shows on HGTV who have been using and painting with either Sherwin Williams, Behr, Benjamin Moore or Glidden paints. However, and this is something I’ve noticed since last year and this summer month of 2022, each and every time I turn to HGTV, whatever show it is, I mostly see Sherwin Williams, Behr, Benjamin or Glidden, there has not been a home improvement show one that I have not seen Benjamin Moore Aura used. AT ALL! That is the only Benjamin Moore type of paint I don’t see on any of the HGTV shows. I know that it’s price maybe a bit too much for some, but…seeing this video had it don on me that…Aura was, in a word, scarce. In the world of HGTV. I do like the paint colors Aura does help enhance and brighten though. 🙂
    Plaster of Paris being one of them.

    We are just starting to paint a garden gazebo with Aura exterior matte as the primary color. My painter, who is very persnickety, has complained about the consistency of the paint. He says that it is runny and drippy. We are painting on carefully primed cedar, tongue and groove. The overhead detail work is driving him nuts. He cusses a lot. Oh Dear, cover the children's ears. LOL Oh he is working with a brush and I must say I have never seen paint slide down the bristles, onto the metal and down the handle so quickly. We went back to the paint store for a real shake but to no avail. Hmmm. ???

    So when painting an absolutely brutal color on walls like Chantilly Lace is Aura is worth the up charge over Regal for coverage?

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 роки тому +1

      I think Chantilly Lace is pretty brutal coverage wise, at least it has been in my experience. I DID notice that Chantilly Lace’s LRV dropped a couple of points so it’s not as bright… maybe that means the coverage is slightly improved?

    • @coastaldiva
      @coastaldiva 2 роки тому

      @@thepaintpeople oh wow, it dropped? Thats really something 😯’ I wonder if I’m gonna like that 🤔

      Any paint with yellow tint will be challenging on coverage

    • @Ih8chew
      @Ih8chew 2 роки тому +1

      Just checked the pricing and Aura is around $5 more per gallon than Regal so Aura it is. I have a feeling Benjamin Moore did some reformulation with Chantilly Lace after how both extremely popular and yet numerous complaints they’ve gotten with the coverage of Chantilly.

    Do you have any opinion on what to use when you have a textured wall? All 3 sides of my big upstairs loft (log home) have a random textured pattern. Would aura be a waste? Matte or eggshell? Love your channel.

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 роки тому +2

      If you want to show off the texture, then I'd go more sheen, at least eggshell. If I wanted the texture to be noticed less, then matte.

  • @TheHappyWhisk

    Did you say cover up bright colours???? Oh ... noooo ... don't do that! lol. Grab that yellow highlighter! It's weird with prices, the brand of chalk paint that I love the most is expensive but ... I gotta say, also really, really good and I get a lot from one tin. So ... while I am cheap I also like to shop smart too. Happy Weekend to you and your honey bunny. Happy Painting too! Cheers, Ivy.

    Would you please consider a video that includes SW Knitting Needles? I can’t find it anywhere on UA-cam. It was highly recommended to me by SW for exterior because it lacks undertones compared to other grays. Im pulling my hair out choosing a color to paint the exterior of my house in Arizona.

    • @thepaintpeople

      Hi Annie! Yes, it's pretty close to a "true" gray if that's what you're after.
