Thank you so much for the conversation, this is so great to hear Snorre, all of you guys are lovely, this is super cool! Thomas if you can get hold of Pytten, the sound engineer, it would be great to have a conversation with him, there is no content that's really up with his work's importance. Thank you!!
Great interview, these interviews are so important for the history of Norwegian black metal. This one was really interesting, Thorns has been deeply important to myself and many others it was super cool to hear Snorre and the other guys talking about the history in such a relaxed in depth way. I really hope the new album is released sooner than later.
Def agree, But I'd say the first Burzum and Mayhem records captured it pretty well in the early releases, in a slightly more hi-fidelity form (that feel ridiculous to call those album hi-fi haha). For me there are only a few albums that really capture that atmosphere in a perfect way. But yeah, when you hear that demo tape you realize who really created that atmospheric feeling of BM. Its so dark and dissonant, its just amazing. And obviously you hear fragment of what later became Mayhem songs in there. (And i swear there is the exact riff from Jesus' Tod on that demo tape). Respect to Snorre !
Though I am always curious about more details concerning the murder, I also respect it wasn’t included in this interview. The information is already out there and it’s been discussed to death. Snorre probably wants to move on and I appreciate him just wanting to discuss Thorns and his music. Cheers to Thomas for being a respectful interviewer and not pushing the subject.
Ca. 41:28: This iconic Romeo-And-Juliet-Tune is Prokofijew’s, not Tschaikowski‘s, isn‘t it? Wow, it’s fascinating to hear the explanation. Thx so much for the podcast, great heritage for the future, i. m. o.

Many thanks to you, Thomas, for this illuminating interview - I have been waiting for something like this for a long time. One question: you asked about whether Snorre invented the tremolo picking technique for Norwegian black metal, and he said, "no," and then mentioned the person who came up with it, but I couldn't understand the name - could you clarify, please?
Pretty sure he said Øystein, which was the real name of Euronymous. So i guess it was a combination of that fast picking and the way Snorre was switching into minor chords that lead to that sound.
Almost two hours and no mention of "the incident" in 1993 ! Would have also liked to hear his thoughts on his portrayal as the "comic relief" in Lords of Chaos
Varg has distanced himself from the bm scene quite a few times in the past so I wouldn't hold my breath for this to happen. There was a footnote in the recent Helvete documentary that he was asked to participate but refused (dumb move as it was a great doc). Also checked his Twitter and well he's gone completely nuts, hallucinating about eugenics using illustrations that look like taken right out of some Readers Digest shit 😂 not that he was all that well to start with - remember how he invited the Bergen newspaper home? "We burned the churches" was the title of the interview...
@@TT-df9hp 👍 short & to the point, unlike me hah. Funny and very interesting thing is how people still somehow consider him to be part of the BM scene without him being active in it for years.
A bit of a rough subject, considering his participation. He could potentially incriminate himself if he spoke freely about it, so it'd be kinda pointless for the listener as well.
@@bloodwyrd "...with Euronymous no longer around to defend himself" this statement alone is indicative of the trash state of black metal and the circus it has become.
Of course, but not to this extent. Manes, Thorns, Ildjarn, etc were not grasping for attention like many of their peers. Nowadays, it has been to reduced to a safe space with corpse painted narcissists on instagram showing off their "cvlt" record collections and merch scores. Speculation and discussion related to Norway circa 1993 is nothing more than gossip and revisionism at this stage.
There would be plenty of black metal without Euronymous, mate. Scandinavian bm is second wave. Anyone with more than a passing interest in the culture knows this. Granted, Vikernes is a narcissist who continues to behave like an attention seeking child, he just happened to make some seminal music along the way. 1993 is a long time ago and he came off like a petulant teenager then, as he does now. Just because he made some synth albums, did some bullshit vlogging to stroke his own ego and made an RPG, doesn't mean his points are valid or remotely fucking interesting for anyone aside from fan boys/ girls, with cripplingly low self-worth. Ultimately, who cares? It's irrelevant and tedious shit, like seeing kids wearing "burn your local church" shirts on who have no intention of committing arson and just want to look "cool" and dangerous lolz. Black metal has become an internet meme at best and an uninspired safe space for norse core bands at worst. Hail the underground and fuck this shit. I salute Snorre for his silence.

Absolutely, Pytten and Peter Tagtgren

The early thorns stuff is some of the best black metal there is, feels like no one has quite captured that sound and atmosphere since, not even thorns

You need to listen to Shining (Sweden)...
@@no-tabsadvocacygroup6570Are you kidding? Nah...listen to Bestial Mockery and Ofermod. Kvarforth is a joke.

10:38 the interview starts
Good news, hopefully we'll hear the new album within this decade!
Very excited for this one
Yes, thanks for this interview, Thorns and his creator, underrated af.
Ca. 41:28: This iconic Romeo-And-Juliet-Tune is Prokofijew’s, not Tschaikowski‘s, isn‘t it?
Wow, it’s fascinating to hear the explanation.

Wow man! Epic! He is a true gem. You hope to hear more from Snorre on your show
One of my favorite guitarists
Do an interview with a Norwegian secret masters Forgotten Woods. That would be interesting.
Check out ATMF. That's the way to go.
Thanks Thomas for the new upload I enjoyed it as I am a big Thorns fan I have

Fun podcast. Wish it had video too.
Many thanks to you, Thomas, for this illuminating interview - I have been waiting for something like this for a long time. He learnt it from Euronymous whose real name was Øystein, so people close to Euro would call him Øystein.

Snorre ❤❤
Thorns❤️
Awesome interview
Emperor v Thorns CD
What was the name of the artist Snorre liked that made music for little children?
Torbjørn Egner
I would like to hear from Infernus, Hoest and Vortex
and your mother?
Okay Thomas, you’ve had Fenriz, Snorre, when is Varg going to be on the show?
Infernus!

There's absolutely no chance of Varg appearing on a podcast to talk about black metal.
@@TT-df9hp 👍 short & to the point, unlike me hah. Funny and very interesting thing is how people still somehow consider him to be part of the BM scene without him being active in it for years.
Varg has already extensively discussed the scene in his youtube videos. Not sure what value this could add.
Hmm... Why are #31 and #32 not appearing on Apple Podcasts?
"Is it anything we've missed?"
Nah man, nothing at all...
how's Mindy, Mork?
Snorre is so cool
Still in awe that snorre knows tiktok😂
Varg, murders, prison,…?
No, have not heard)
premeditated murders
who the fuck cares anymore

Hailz
he didn't even mention his masterpiece album from 2001. weird.
Yes, it was mentioned.
around the 1:00:00 mark, after they mention Thorns Vs Emperor
He saw his childhood friend dying in front of him and didn't do shit...
The night of the Euronymous death?...
Tabloid gossip for black metal newbies doesn't need to be discussed. Simple as that.
