Perfect skin, flawless hair, their uniforms are all slightly different but perfectly coordinated. It's like pod people to be honest haha. And they speak English very well. I never get used to them. Being a flight attendant means you’re attractive, made it past the competition, and travel the world. I worked at a major recruitment company in Thailand for two years and have a few things to add. Much of what she said applies to most East Asian countries. Being a flight attendant is a highly sought after job that is almost impossible to get. I've interviewed dozens of former flight attendants and they all had several things in common. They had above average intelligence, spoke English at a level of good to fluent, usually spoke another Asian language fairly well, were highly confident, were very warm and friendly yet professional, and every one of them was very attractive. If I noticed this, people who have been doing business here all their professional lives are aware of these things too. After their career as a flight attendant is over, they are still sought after and have many opportunities. One more thing: some comments here say that the job is also sought out because they can find rich husbands. I noticed that for their age and this region, former flight attendants seemed more likely to be single than most other women their age (we are allowed to ask about marital status in job interviews, and resumes actually include candidates' marital status, height, weight, age, religion, etc). From my experience at a recruitment company and flying Asian airlines, gold digging flight attendants are rare. These are women with a high level of training and responsibility, who are intelligent, have traveled the world and are well-regarded in corporate circles.

I was just there helping my grandma but then made friends with them, and they invited me to eat breakfast with them. Oh god, these women were so smart and educated. They told me about the history and geography of different countries, things they observed about politics, and just life in general. They were highly competent, and would be successful wherever they go. Not to mention how they gave me a lot of beauty/health tips that I still use today 😂

The employment in Korea is insanely competitive. Of course top tier desirable jobs are doctors, dentists, anything in the health field bc it’s reputable. Nowadays, for women, it’s more than just qualifications and accolades bc majority of them are all qualified education wise but looks and personality are highly accounted for as it sets some women apart (like extracurriculars in a sense). Korea is known for their airline services and participating in anything that would contribute to the nation is highly sought out. Looks is heavily engrained in their culture so jobs that require you to have a well kept image like news anchor and idols are ideal. Hopefully this makes sense!

I'm not sure about those things for being a flight attendant, but in Korea the standard of living is different. The idea of working hard all the time is normal, and being a flight attendant even in America can mean 12+ hour days with little rest. For Koreans having such a great work ethic is a good thing. I think that's at least part of it.

Adding on, money is important but a lot of time most common jobs (office jobs) are 10+ hours a day with a fixed yearly salary. It’s common to work over time without being paid because of how work ethics are in Korea. For example being a manager of a idol is a 24/7 job but the yearly salary is like 30-50,000 US dollars.

SNU graduates who do not land the six-figure jobs are hoping to land a job that pays over $50,000. Generally, Koreans work twice as hard as Americans to earn half the pay as Americans. Not a good prospect. Korean Air pays their stewardesses $60,000, so hopefully now you understand why this job is so competitive.

I see a lot of comments saying things like: they want to be flight attendants because the uniform is pretty. I myself am a student, studying to be a flight attendant, and there’s just something about putting on that uniform. It’s one of the best feelings in the world, I feel so much pride when I walk in it. I’m a part of a bigger picture but we all matter and we all have the same goals. The uniform really makes you feel stronger and professional. It’s amazing how one outfit can change your entire attitude. It doesn’t matter which color the uniform is, it doesn’t matter if you wear pants, a skirt or a dress. It doesn’t even matter that those heels are real killers. The second we put on that uniform we stand for grace, elegance, respect and safety. I can’t really explain the feeling but it’s much more than just finding the uniform pretty. We wouldn’t get up at 3am to catch a flight at 9am knowing that we won’t get much rest time only because we find the uniform pretty. The job is very demanding, we’re not just some pretty looking waiters in the air.

I understand that for people visiting korea that the flight crew might be their first impression of Korea, but I'd be interested to see if there is anything like these classes anywhere else in the world. She was literally there any time I needed her no matter the time of the night flight with a smile. She guessed it was my first time flying long haul by myself and made me feel so comfortable and it and helped even when I accidentally spilt my drink on my seat and moved me quickly. Apart from passing a security background check, you don’t need a college degree or any particular skills or physical attributes (unfortunately in the US, the airlines would get sued for discrimination if they selected based on weight, age and beauty lol)

A few years ago I was at the airport in Incheon, and saw these flight attendants lined up ready to get on the plane near gate (never seen that before) but this group was soooo uniform, it was like military. The same tuck in fabric, same scarf, same height, weight, walk, posture, hair style (only 2 of them had shorter hair) but longer hair was in a bun with this thin bow to match the uniform (see @4:14). Same smile, makeup, everything was so exact it was like they were clones. It was quite impressive. But I felt all that wasn't necessary for them to do their jobs. Being excellent in customer service beats all the extra efforts they put forth to be THAT uniform. A basic professional look and a smile is all they truly need.

many people in the comment don't understand this hype about flight attendant .. but as for many asia countries, it is the same. Being a flight attendant is like reaching a social status in asia 's society, meaning you get to travel a lot , all the time and get paid well. What the video doesn't mention is, in Asia , if you notice, there is absolutely no older women ( in their 30s even ) is a flight attendant. They only hire young professional and like some people said, this is a very short career, but very mentally rewarding for young girls. Very interesting insight for people who are unfamiliar with the culture :)

It's all about the looks. Korean society treats women like a piece of meat. That's all. Women are CONSTANTLY criticised by their superiors on their looks. Comments like " You look fat today, you look ugly today " are apparently pretty common. Pathetic society. Honestly

Such high beauty standards.also so much competition and pressure in each individual. If you want to get the job you dreamed off you should be beautiful or almost perfect.Well I’m not surprised because so many people preferred beauty over talent or personality especially in the land of beauty or a sexy body is a must.
