How about the ladies? Emily Remler, Sheryl Bailey, or Mimi Fox?
I could easily do a video with the top 10 female jazz guitarists alone. The players you mentioned are all great as is Mary Osborne!
@@jamieholroydguitar Mary Osborne -- yay!
Emily is a heroine of most of us - a bit later than this time frame, however.
A list of later players such as Jonathan Kreisberg, Ben Monder, Mike Stern, Martin Taylor etc would be a help to many newbies, I’m sure.
Thanks so much for this - it was a reminder to me to dig deeper into some players I’ve not given their due attention to, over the years.
Perfect list. These are the guys. Only thing - three players who kind of bridge classic and modern you only mention in passing or may have left out - George Benson, Pat Martino and John Scofield - each hugely influential.
Definitely!
Nice list. I would also add for reference Bucky Pizzarelli. Not a B-Bopper, but great chord melodies and melodic playing.
Ah yes a great player!
I'm sure everybody would have a different list for personal favourites, but in terms of influence, I'd say this is an excellent, well-considered Top Ten.
Thank you!
Thanks Jamie, so helpful!
No problem!
Great list. Love Herb Ellis too. It’s very hard to just pick 10, but you did a good job👍🎸👍
Thanks Steve!
Great video; more than a list, it was an introduction to the history of jazz guitar
Thank you!
i have to mention one of the best co-labs in jazz ever, namely jimmey raney and bob brookmeyer. and mentioning raneys son doug as the heir of raneys style
Yes sir Hall and Brookmeyers live at the North Sea is a great album. Doug Raney was a top player too.
Hi Jamie, Great list indeed. When talking about early bebop players I would like to mention Billy Bean who was a marvellous bebop player far ahead of his time. Unfortunately he disappeared from the scene too early. Two others were Bill DeArango and Bill Dillard.
Thanks, yes Billy Bean is an excellent player as are the others you mentioned. I did a separate video about Bill Dillard but always intended to do one on Billy Bean too.
