I have been using this technique for a few years now and it has really improved my chipping. I use my putting grip and almost my putting stroke, and then I just switch between my irons depending on how long I need the ball to roll. It is such an simple way to chip and there is close to no risks using it.
A club pro taught me this technique over 30 years ago but no matter how many times I tell people to try it they never do. Maybe now you are advocating it Pete, it'll catch on and scores will improve. I find it's a great technique to use from those awkward fluffy lies where the grass is growing against you and the club often snags, leading to a duffed shot. Great videos, keep them coming!
Good video Pete. Very helpful. I was taught this technique 28 yrs ago and have been using it in a system called "ratios". Sand wedge to 8 iron similar to how you use your wedge system for longer yardage. i.e. SW 1/1 carry/spin, pw 1/2 carry spin, etc. a true extension of putting when used around the fringes that are not so pristine.
Shot my personal best round of 88 today at a club comp and used this technique 3 times during the round, and got great results! Thanks for the tip Pete!
Love this technique. Use it often but only with my gap wedge. The higher lofted sand and lob give me issues. I also find this far easier to control distance than using an iron. The face on my irons are hot and make distance control harder.
I've noticed you're using the tour series grips in this video. Have you switched to those on all your clubs or just trying them out? If you've switched, what is an advantage you've noticed? I just switched to the ultralite XL on my driver and ultralite M on my irons/woods and I'm absolutely loving it. Less wrist and hand pain overall. Cheers from the USA
I tried this for a couple of months, but my problem was that the ball "rolled up" the face and went 50% of the distance. It was ok as long as I didn't use more loft than 45-50 degrees.
My coach taught me this technique earlier this year. So easy that it is practically idiot proof--so perfect for me! It has taken all of the anxiety out of my chipping.
Not really a new technique. I heard an old PGA Tour Player say that they make their living by chipping from the toe and converting more up and downs to save strokes.
The lesson could be about chipping or it could be to avoid PGA teaching pros and listen to people like Brad Faxon and Pete Cowans, who've been saying this forever by the way. Oh and you can do this from much further away.
They're pro's because they have elite hand eye co-ordination and they practice everyday. Why would someone who plays once a week and rarely has time to practice copy them?
Love that these videos get released on the way to the course on a Saturday! Might just turn my 105 into a 104. 😂
My guy! I hope so

This has made my chipping from 20 yards and in so much easier. Thank you Pete...Keep up the good work.

Is this a tight-lie only type of shot? Or does it work out of the rough as well?
Had a lesson Thursday on this exact technique, we also closed the face more to reduce the spin for the ones we wanted to roll out even further
why would you need to reduce spin on around the green chips? There's hardly any spin at all since the face can't dig in on low impact swings

Thanks Pete. I’m just starting to master this shot but I’m using 9 iron.
Love that technique! Use it all the time!
Great technique, thanks for sharing
Great video easy to understand brilliant 👌
I has the yips a coupe of years ago, sent for this, worked beautifully
This method has improved my chipping by a lot.

I tried this a few days ago & it works really well.
Nicely explained in under 3 minutes! I was looking for the cheat-sheet-screen-shot at the end, but missing on this one.
I tried this method for my shorter chips and it worked great.
Just started this myself from 20 yards or so. I have a TM Hitoe, the toe relief is ideal for this
Use this often. Teaching it to my kids now. Also teaching myself and kids to not fear to use the Texas wedge on the lovely lies off the green
Wait till Rick here's about this Pete! #GameChanger #SwingQuestForSheils
I like it, but what clubs do recommend to use, when beginning to learn this method?..thanks
That was really good and very helpful, thank you.
Thanks Peter
My pro taught me to chip like this 2 years ago and it’s 100% improved my short game no end, I’ve never seen anyone else do it though until now
Peter Cowen teaches it
@@badmuppet6532 that makes sense as that’s who my coach used to work for haha
Brad Faxon teaches it
Thanks Pete
I've been using this technique for a few months now depending on the lie condition and it definitely works.
Used this technique for a couple of years. Definitely more consistent.
Anyone know what type of grips those are? looks nice
what grips are you using pal?
My clubs are 2 degrees upright, do you suggest doing this same technique?

Do you have something as simple as this for pitching?
Most elements of this are in Dave Stockton's short game book. Nice to see them as its a technique that really works.
I’ve not actually read that yet. What’s it called?
Ooh good question, I borrowed it off a mate...'Unconscious Scoring' maybe
Yeah think that's the one, I remember the forward from Rory
Once I got my head around his bunker technique I've been way more consistent from the sand too.
What club are you using for this shot Pete? I know it’s a wedge but which one?
I do this, for 1-2 months...
way less misshits👍
I learned that technique from watching Greg Norman works excellent
Chipped like for some time now souch easier 👍👍👍
Loft to roll ratio?
Doesn't the angle of the face cause the ball to go right instead of straight since you lift the heal?
I use that technique when I get snaggy lies 👌
Pete does that mean less body turn than before?
Not specifically, turning the body or rocking the shoulders will work as a feeling
@@swingquestgolf cheers Pete, I'll add this to your previous chipping library as they have helped immensely this year.😍

That is awesome to hear
Does anyone on tour chip like this?
99% of the time I miss a green I'm short sided. I learned to flop first. Makes every type of short game shot easier having the flop in the bag.
It’s funny but I actually find a flop shot easier than hitting a bump and run with a 9iron. And I’m a +2 handicap
You see that grass!?! I could chip with back of my 9 iron off that stuff,,,, ya ought to see the lies I get down here in South Florida!!
or get a chipper and the club will promote this sort of technique
Chipping. My arch enemy. Sooooo many shots lost per round due to a crap short game.
Someone tag rick shiels

I chip miles better with wrist hinge, sorry Peter
I dont like it....open the face...use the bounce like the pros....they arent idiots....its a game of knowledge
