This amp is built based on meticulous inspection and hands-on analysis of Jimi Hendrix's personal guitar amp that was used at Woodstock, among other live tours... it has 'that' sound and it is an absolute marvel. Great work by Paul, Doug, and the rest of the PRS team.

    Wow,,, that sound,,,,
Allow me to share something with you. In 1983 I was hired for a session at a recording studio in New York City that has long since gone out of business. For the session, I played through a raggedy old Sunn stack they had in the studio. After the session, as I was ready to leave, the owner took me into the studio and turned the amp around.
Stenciled on the back were the words that froze me in my tracks: "Jimi Hendrix Experience. Handle With Care."
My jaw hit the floor. Apparently, Hendrix gave some amps to Leslie West. The guy who owned the studio was a former roadie with Mountain, and got one of them.
This is a true story. My fate allowed me the bragging rights that I played out of one of Jimi's amps! Not many can say the same!

Mr Hendrix had a performance In Kansas City Nov 1st 1968 and I was called the night before to repair one of his Marshall heads in which they said it needed immediate repair? OK I said but how did you get my name? Quigley music store was the response. Mr Quigley thought highly of my work and was very gracious and referred them to me. So I setup the time and all and took the referral. At the time I had a good reputation in all things tube (not called valve back in the day) Marshall, Fender, Vox, Magnacord, Boogie (authorized by the man himself) and others it didn't matter as anything tube was my opportunity and forte as I always took them on. Mr Hendrix was adamant about 2 things, tone and tone LOL. That night of the show I was invited to stay backstage for the performance but I passed as I had family stuff which just could not be overlooked however someone the next day gave me a "pass" by Me Hendrix in which he personally signed and so for many years as a reminder of that moment I kept it in my desk drawer. Unfortunately a house fire later on did them in and now I realize how bad that fire was to take away the history of that moment as Mr Hendrix wrote on the pass "Thank you" and signed it. Mr Hendrix was very personable. As I delivered the amps (I checked them all) that same night I delivered them to Municipal Auditorium I got the opportunity to meet Jimi while shaking his hand. I observed immediately how powerful his left was and asked if I could also check his other hand? Out of curiosity he agreed. I then commented what I thought all along his fingers were one of the secrets in his style and his tone. Others since then have claimed that very same thing but I already knew. Mr Hendrix and I talked about the dominant D and G string when doing double and triple stops and Mr Hendrix was adamant and very picky about the G string I asked why? Mr Hendrix smiled and said the G string must be flatted or it would dominate the triplets and or chords and that was part of the reasoning behind him tuning down a half step. Then there's the time I met Mr Smith in 1987 as back then I was working with MCI telecom back in DC. OK so I went to a bar that night after work where his band back then I forget the name but all I knew was at the time I needed to have one of the guitars he was playing. On a break I approached him and he claimed "I make them" yeah sure I said, he then took a paper napkin and wrote the address in Annapolis Maryland with a phone number on it we shook hands and I returned to my table. So since I was in DC for several weeks I decided ok I gotta check this out!! The next day being a Saturday off I went to Annapolis but I had to stop several times to get directions as I was lost and almost gave up. I finally found the building close to the shipyard kind of depleted looking it was, as I thought this is a guitar shop? Anyway long story short Mr Smith greeted me at the door with wood dust and all and let me in. After a brief tour I bought the custom 25 ten top, birds inlay for not much money and Mr Smith said he normally doesn't do business that way but since I took the initiative he would allow such a purchase. Now to this day I never asked the boss at home for permission as I was happy to have something I wanted and was willing to risk a divorce. Unfortunately my PRS that I enjoyed is no longer in my possession as I am divorced and the ex decided to keep it as a part of the settlement and possible revenge, I dunno. I can attest to one thing though both gentlemen I met had in common, which was all about "TONE". I know what I know and finger and amp tone are magical. Mr Hendrix made Marshall a success and Mr Smith mentored by Mr McCarty set standards for guitarists to enjoy an instrument to be enjoyed for a lifetime and beyond. Mr Hendrix gave us Purple Haze and Mr Smith gave us focus and beauty. In my book they are both 10+

I had the privilege to not only play through Jimi Hendrix's complete rig, the dual marshall stacks with his white Strat plugged into it, and with his Fuzzface and Uni-Vibe on the floor. He was so gracious to let me do this when he went on a lunch break at the rehearsal studio (Baggies) where I had been introduced to him and we became friends. This was typical of him. When I finally got the courage to ask him if I could play his guitar and all, he said no problem and just went out to lunch leaving me there with it all to do as I pleased.
Well, not touching a knob, I turned the amps on and started to play. Of course, his guitar was left-strung and I'm a right-handed player, so it was strung upside down to me, but I still managed to play some single-line things on it.
Guess what it sounded like - me, just me, damn it.
