Hey Sweet Stuff, the strap connectors are REALLY challenging. My Juki would not handle them so I ended up hand sewing the top stitch. I used E6000 and glued them in place. After that I put the rivets in place. Worked out GREAT. Just thought I would share because I know I will not be the only one having problems with those small pieces. Thanks again for ALL you do ! You're the BEST !!!!!!
I finally made this bag!! I used red waxed canvas and a gorgeous dark brown mottled cork that looks like aged leather. By FAR my favorite bag and not that hard! This will be my airline travel bag (I made the large) and I love the crossbody strap, which I made from 1” seatbelt webbing. Spectacular pattern!! Hint: using zipper tape for the main zipper, extend the tape out to the edges, not 1” in like the pattern. Don’t bother attaching the pull until right before boxing the top corners. Open the zipper before attaching the bottoms, then slide the pull on TWICE so both ends are closed when attaching the anchors.
Yay! I have this pattern in my queue but have been afraid to start. My new sewing theory is that if I wait long enough, Jess will do a tutorial for me!
Haha it's a good theory Heather! When I started I figured I would run out of patterns to film, but I just keep finding more and more great designers! Now I worry I'll never go to them all
Oh my goodness,,, "I did it... I made the smaller version" I am a new sewer, and I could not have done it without this awesome video / tutorial. Thank you.
Hi Jessica, what a great bag. As a fellow Bernina domestic machine users l want to share my favorite tip for top edge stitching 1/8 inch. Use the blind hem foot with the center guide and move your needle position over. The guide rides along the accent piece edge keeping the stitching the same distance away from that edge. Total game changer for top stitching! Thank you for all your awesome teaching.
This bag is so cute. I like both sizes. i love that you use your home machine because I don't have an industrial and I can make it on my Bernina. Thanks for all you do.
I love your video. This was the best step by step I seen. I can make this bag by following you. You explain everything and everything you use . Just love it. Will be following you. Thank you.
The way you teach and how comprehensive you are has inspired me to try one of the easy bags. Have only made a couple of cotton bags with fusible fleece and never thought I would try cork or vinyl and harder stabilizers and hardware but I am. Maybe in a year or so I can make something like this. Love your overhead camera. Thank you so much!
Thank goodness for having you ‘by my side’ when I made the smaller bag! However, I now have the confidence and knowledge to do the travel size and will try foam. The smaller bag I used fabric canvas and Decovil light, lining in quilting cotton interfaced with woven interfacing with vinyl accents. A nice structure but much more ‘floppier’ than yours but the shape is there and lovely. I did give up trying to sew on the side clip connectors and used rivets! Thank you for your great tutorials.
I love the size of the smaller bag! The look, shape and accents are so perfect for that designer look. I just bought that dimpled ivory vinyl on my punk a few weeks ago, ha! It is so stinking cute on that bag!!!
All creations seems to be so easy when I see you sewing. As soon as I take a fabric in my hands all seems to be so difficult LOL I must taming the sewing 😅

@@synthiafigueroa - Hi Synthia. Above you talk about struggling to make this bag with your Janome. I have a domestic Janome 30. Totally understandable since there are so many comments... but I'm trying to figure out if this bag will be too much for my machine. Any thoughts if this Swoon Brooklyn would be too much? Thank you!
@@ToddGPDX I think you should be okay making this on your domestic. I did on mine! I will admit it was tough, but I managed to finish it. My advise would be to go slow! If you’re as much of a confident beginner as I was when I made mine, you’ll do just fine. Good luck!
Making this bag as we speak. I thought screwed up with the inside pocket panel so reviewed what you said vs what the pattern says. As per you video, you say to cut the zipper opening 9" it should be 7" not 9".... I did 9" & discovered it's the exact size as my zipper pocket... so it screws up sewing the zipper pocket closed. Jess, I’ve been watching your tutorials and love everything you do. You are inspiring. I took your idea of using waterproof canvas for lining. It’s great!!! So far I’ve used it in my wristlets and it’s wonderful. Now I’m going to try decovile lite for some larger bags. Thank you.

Love the bag. Where do you get your bag tags?
So I tried this bag. I got all the way to the connectors for the zipper... It's too much for my machine. Ive tried everything except sewing them by hand. I'm so glad I used old fabric for this test bag! That's the exact reason I don't use my good fabric on the first try. I don't think I'll make this one again. On to the next bag 😁
Love the video was hoping you would do this pattern could you please do the handbag one your looks beautiful
Hi Jess, Wanting to make this bag using the waxed canvas. Please tell me how you adheared the interfacing to the waxed canvas. Thanks for the help. Love the way way you did the smaller bag....it's adorable! Rita
I like your bags and tutorials a lot! Will I be able to use my Babylock home sewing machine to sew the same material you use? Thanks.
You are so talented! I love how perfect your bag looks!
Thank you so much!!
I am making another one of these bags. Made the handbag size and now making the traveler. I have a Bernina machine also. Can you tell me what the green colored presser foot is that you used when sewing on the vinyl accent piece? Thanks much. Your tutorial is great.
that would also be great with a luggage sleeve on the back - for placing ON that luggage for the trip through the airport!
Jess, I’ve been watching your tutorials and love everything you do. You are inspiring. I took your idea of using waterproof canvas for lining. It’s great!!! So far I’ve used it in my wristlets and it’s wonderful. Now I’m going to try decovile lite for some larger bags. Thank you.
Yay! You'll love decovil light, it makes such a difference.
Good looking bags! Thank you for the tutorial!
Great job!! Love it. Very high end looking.
Thanks so much!
This was the first bag I ever made and it introduced me to bag making. If you watch the tutorials as you go it can be done by a beginner!
Love this video, what brand glue and tape are you using? Many thanks

Hi Jess: OMG.... I'm Sooooo in love. Got hooked on making the Bonnie Buckets for a while, now I have a new one to tackle. So Great ! Thank you soooo much. I am a visual learner so I'm sure the written instructions would confuse me. When that happens, I just give up. LOL, that's why I have many Bonnie Buckets under my belt now, all thanks to you my dear !! Oh, by the way, your link for the binding babies is no longer valid. Thought you might want to update. You're the BEST !!!!
Thank you for letting me know Tina! I'll get that link fixed
Very nice pattern
Brilliant bag thank you for sharing
Hey Jess! Do you use the bags you make? If so, what is your everyday handbag?
I sure do! My every day bag is the Sadie Sling and I carry my laptop everywhere with me in the Divina Tote (both are Bagstock patterns). My mom actually uses the Bonnie Bucket bag every day and her wallet is the Worsley Wallet. We love hand made!

You are so funny.
Road trip!
No, I was thinking on my next Europe trip, maybe in the fall?
Ooooo that sounds lovely!
Absolutely love this bag. Kinda intimidating but may try one day soon.
Jess you are such a FANTASTIC teacher! I have learned SO MUCH from you!! I've watched this now, gosh I don't know maybe five times and I'm ready! LOL! I just have one question, I'm the kinda girl that HAS TO HAVE A POCKET on the outside of my bag. Zip, slip, something. Do think this is something that could be accomplished for this bag style? I would love your thoughts.
