Its a shame that they never continued the story with another movie. Things were starting to get awesome. The rise of Orgrim as Warchief, Thrall being raised as a gladiator, maybe the invasion of Stormwind in the first minutes and then Lordaeron. There is so much that they could show.
The universe is so expansive they very well could make a series out of it. I would totally watch that. I've played the games a bit, but I've read most of the lore behind them. Its real good stuff.
It never landed well with the fans because they didn't follow the story as it really is. They made up all kinds of stuff. I'm not a hardcore story fan myself, I just played WoW because I loved the game. That being said I didn't think the movie was that great either way and some of my friends that do know the storyline really wern't impressed by this move. I think if they made a contract with Netflix or Amazon and made an series in the digital style as their latest game trailers telling the real story of WoW to the exact detail they would be able to really gain a huge audience... To be honest if I wasn't a fan of warcraft universe, I would saw this movie as nothing more than average. I think there was a lot of blunders that went into why this movie didn't succeed, one was the lack of promotion, I had to constantly look up its release date to remind myself when it came out. They released it in china before they did in america, this allowed critics to bash it before people had a chance to see it. Despite Warcraft success in the gaming industry, it's obvious it's not very popular outside of china or it would had done way better domestically than it did regardless of critics. I doubt a sequel would come, if Blizzard return to the movie market, it be smarter for them to try overwatch instead. Not Warcraft.

@@acemoz I'm not all that well versed with mythical creatures, but I'm guessing the Gryphon was smart. They lost the momentum and surprise that let them launch the attack. I'm thinking it put 2 and 2 together and figured that if it tried to fight again, without that momentum and surprise while already surrounded and probably being held down by a dozen Orcs, it'd get butchered and so would it's rider. Another thing to consider is that in the early forest fight scene the Dire Wolf didn't try to fight when it saw Lothar holding a sword to its rider's neck, so who's to say a Gryphon wouldn't act the same way?
I guess this scene would conclude a bit different if it were done today: Summons Bird Mount. "You are in the wrong zone." Fumbles through dropdown list of mounts collected. In the books, normal orc warriors are more or less like humans. By the way... Anduin Lothar's death was a major retcon too, in WC2 he died because he wanted to negotiate for peace and got ambushed. Female orcs are closer to warcraft orcs than those big orcs.

As for the orc size...I've seen other people criticize that decision but I don't think of it as too big of a deal. I actually understand what happened here, finally, after all these years. He knew Lothar had no chance without a weapon, so he gave him one. But a sword? Of all things? He wanted an honourable death in Mak'gora. He didn't want to serve under Gul'Dan, but knew if he refused, his death would be shameful. That was purely for honour.
Black hand totally threw, he just sat there waiting to get stabbed after he got nutted, and it makes sense too after gul’dan forced him to become something he hated.
Wouldnt it be the opposite? wouldnt they fear what just killed their warboss considering just how more powerful the warbosses are over regular orks? They would clearly come back later and start a fight but wouldnt doubt there would be a morality issue for a hot minute.
In the Ciaphas Cain novels after the warboss died all of the larger orks started fighting over who would be the next warboss and Cain just slipped out in all the chaos.
Proud "warriors" that genocided most species in their own world, turned said world into a wasteland, then tried to do the same to Azeroth and it's inhabitants, starting a war without provocation, killing/enslaving non combatants in the process, yeah, proud warmongers more like.

become, was their lack of honor. Before, on Draenor, they had been a noble race. But Gul‘dan‘s treachery had
changed all that, making them little more than bloodthirsty savages. Doomhammer was determined to restore his
race‘s pride and purity, and that meant following a strict code of behavior. The man had treated with him in good
faith, and Doomhammer would not betray that. He would follow the path the man had marked, and if it proved
quick and the human troops did not block them he would honor his half of the agreement."

Too bad people in charge nowadays only think about how they can reach as many customers as possible even if that requires screwing up the story and its complexity.

Selects a dragon riding mount. Launches himself into the air and flies about 100 yards. Not enough vigor. Has to sit and wait for vigor to regen. His first big tv presence was as Ragnar Lothbrok, and lemme tell you a little summthin, if you haven’t seen the utter badassery that takes place in every scene he plays in as Ragnar, then you’re missing out. That look he gives people in every scene, or the little head movements he does is just perfect, gives you the chills just watching him. When he played Ragnar he was in the fucking ZONE.
I cant believe everyone wanted a warcraft movie and they did it (and did it very well) and NOBODY Liked it
They did not introduce anything properly, just dropped into the story so casuals had no chance to understand what is going on or who these people are. The CGI is horrible and they tried to stick to the MMO art style with giant armors and weapons when that looks horrendous in live action.
They set it up to fail.
@@Zankaru agree... as far im concerned i know that a game called Warcraft exists but never played it so idk who is who , a proper intro would have been better.... for me the movie started and ended abruptly.... maybe warcraft fans might have loved it but i feel the story didnt appease to a lot of the masses out there
@Astranamos I really hoped they would redo burning crusade. lorewise it was a desaster. srsly why did we fight illidan? and kaelthas were one of the better leaders in wc3. he did everything in his power for his people! atworse I could see him as a anti-hero biggest fail in character development after garrosh! and kaelthas feelt just like garrosh they needed a raid boss. but can't expect much of the people who forgot the dreanei, eredar und sargeras lore and simply rewrote it.
@@n.c.kupfermann1023 oof.. kal'thas.. eh.. him and his people were removed from the alliance, their were already on shakey ground mind, because they turned to the naga to aid them.. when the idiot admiral wouldnt aid them secure the area they needed to secure..in short they were ment to fail.
@@Zankaru never played WOW still loved the movie... Wishin they make the sequel
as a fantasy movie LOVED THIS FILM, i dont know much about lore of this game but i realy liked this movie
Night Elves aren't in there yet. If you played the whole franchise, it would be more awesome regardless of the graphics. The story lines got some unexpected twists. I believe Ke'l Thuzad and Arthas wasn't mentioned here yet.
lssylvice Ced It could’ve taken a completely different direction you know like Marvel. Marvel in the end became a awesome franchise but yeah I get the Point because fans needed it to be like the game. Imagine in this design everyone in the game with character and storylines.
@@lssylvice Shhhh dont spoil them ;)
Well, it's an adaptation of the first game, basically when there were just humans and orcs.
Youre a fantasy movie?
How Garona's actions were redeemed is also mentionable.
Forever will miss that universe. Great childhood memories.
I still find it distracting how low energy all the live action characters are while all the CGI characters feel so alive.
I said it in post earlier but basically everyone's acting but Lothar and Garonas and maybe King Laine was all wooden and without any real effort. The alliance races like the Elves and dwarves all felt like second rate store bought Cosplay. It drew me out of the movie more than the orcs being CGI which were well done.
Ionsniper This movie would have worked better as all CGI.
It's hard to act against something you have to pretend is there. And animation as a whole can get away with being expressive. Not taking away from the human acting though, because they could've done a lot better.
CursedUsername Look at scenes where the live actors are acting against each other. Wooden.
I dunno...how would you act with a bunch of Orcs that could kill you fast are in hundreds. I'd be a little intimidated or scared. Lothar's good but honestly from his POV that would be scary.

I was wondering what class he was... now I know it's rogue.
He dropped a dagger, cant equip it.
"That, even in the Orks culture, is still considered a dick move."
Because it isn't totally a dick move for a 3x larger, fel-imbued beast to go up against a mere human who's not even close to it in strength and size...

Imagine being such a unit that you can pull down an entire Gryphon out of the air and rag-doll it with one hand
Is no one gonna talk about how the griffin so fing soloed all the orcs while lothar was doing his own thing, dude that thing is a bad ass beast :)
Well, gryphons are flying units and grunts are melee, so it's invulnerable.
The orc warlord managed to snag the gryphon cos he probably had a lightning orb
Also grunts have heavy armor and gryphons have magic damage, so understandably grunts are getting pwned
Your phrases an empty phrase...

Shanksprey raven, probably one of those royal gryphon against basic tier orc. He ain’t a ostrich so it’s expected ;)

I don't get why this movie was considered bad?? I love WC 3 so much to point where every bit of media about WC I can find is a godsend. When me and my brother watch this together in cinema we were skilling the entire time, tying to piece together anything we can between the game and this movie. I really thing they should have continued this movie, the best villain has yet to come
Goosebumps comin in as he walks through the Crowd and they pay respect
This movie was by far one of the best fantasy movies I had seen in a long time. I was not disappointed in anyone's acting and it was a good plot. How it wasn't more popular is beyond me!
It was sold as the adaptation of the videogame and as such, the movie disappointed, but sure, it was a pretty nice movie for your average moviegoer, a little too expensive and didn't bring as much money as needed to be followed by a sequel (if I remember well this movie performed so well in the chinese market it can of began the trend to appeal to chinese audiences)
Naah, I think it's just overthinking it
Also in the books that fight never happens. Its Orgrim the one who kills blackhand in a mak'gora.
Black hand totally threw, he just sat there waiting to get stabbed after he got nutted, and it makes sense too after gul’dan forced him to become something he hated.
Maybe Blackhand just wanted revenge for when Lothar mutilated his arm (also he killed his son, so this was a totally personal fight)
Still you don’t shoot someone in the dick butters
Love how Grom and Kargath step right into Ghul'Dan's face.
When is Blizzard going to make a TV series of Warcraft, movies don't go deep enough into the lore.
Yeah I can't wait to see the events of Warcraft 3 unfold on television. Some good damn lore right there with Arthas.
it costs too much money...
@@TheJunnior1 but it also makes alot of money
I can't bash "like" on this hard enough. If done properly with patience and quality, shit, we could have the next GoT success. In my opinion.
Tell Blizzard to call HBO. Games of Thrones is done and we need another fantasy series that will delve into the lore.
Meanwhile in the Warhammer universe "Oi boyz, dat 'umie just krumped da boss! ZOG HIM, LADZ"
The Orks don't fear anything smaller than themselves
bikes
Shiren the Siren depends, sometimes yeah but other times they're so pumped on adrenaline they don't care and kill anything
Be he a viking or a fantasy warrior, that dude looks STONED. The eyes are so glassy. He's always on something and I want some!
he was drunk all night because his son killed by the Black hand
And that's why I can't take him seriously.
Seeing Grom Hellscream makes me smile, such found memories.
Love how the Orcs aren't one-dimensional. They are actually a race of proud warriors. Like Spartans on green steroids.
Proud "warriors" that genocided most species in their own world, turned said world into a wasteland, then tried to do the same to Azeroth and it's inhabitants, starting a war without provocation, killing/enslaving non combatants in the process, yeah, proud warmongers more like.
@@theonebeing981 Well after Guldan came. That honorable attitude and tradition of theirs started to lose.
@@theonebeing981 Yea, a warrior culture loving war and violence, who would've thought ? They respect martial prowess and honor anyone that shows great skill in battle, this is how it should work. there is honor there, just different from what you consider honorable.
I will never understand why they didn't make the whole movie CGI.
Enigma X studies show photorealistic cgi movies dont tend to sell that much. Uncanny valley and what not. Too risky of a bet.
I heard it cost more to make the cgi films. Those BFA short films we watch I “hear” cost millions to make.
Dont quote me though lol. But I've been wanting them to just make a cgi TV series to damn bad.
@@obpty This movie looks like trash, one watch should've confirmed that for Blizzard. Their CGI is incredible, the Arthas cinematic looks amazing to this day. They should have stuck to what they are good at which is CGI.
@@barneyrubble4293 just search, they need years to make a 5 minute cgi clip..otherwise they would already done a movie

Damn
Ragnar Lodbrok is damn strong even in WoW
Loved this movie, wish they would make a sequel.
I was just thinking, Chris Hemsworth would make a fantastic Arthas Menethil for a movie based on WarCraft III.
that guy who plays Jaime Lannister in game of thrones though.
Jaime Lannister is too old to play Arthas. Arthas was 24.
Don't forget Jaime looks like he loses 20 years between Season 1 and Season 5.
Nah Chris Hemsworth is too funny for such a dark role. Jaime Lannister could be but is a bit old for the role. Nothing some makeup can’t do though. I hope we at least get Arthas’ story in a movie because the future of warcraft movies isn’t looking bright.
Julian, 100% agree...chris Hemsworth has that kind of physicality but he is too funny. Robert pattinson could be but he has to buff up a lot.

They should have made the humans animated too. It takes too much suspension of disbelief to see a normal sized human fight an orc.
it's so uncanny, definitely should of made it animated
