So it sounds like the M8 is the M7 but with a stitch regulator, and the M6 is the downgraded version of the M7. Thanks for going over these for us...you know I'm a Janome person!

Pat Sloan talked about the Moda free pattern called Sunshine Hawaiian shirt quilt. It made me think of you two. If Walter has leftover fabric you could have a quilt of the shirts he has made 🙂

Here in the us, the M8 is $2000 more than the M7. Due to the addition of the stitch regulator. Hope this info helps.

Thank you for the comparison of janome. I’d love an M7 I currently have a janome 3160QDc she did make a 76x76 quilt but shoving all that in a 6 in throat space darn near killed me 😂

I have the Janome 8900 with a throat space of almost 11”. Nice amount of space, but a twin size quilt almost kills me, too. Just so heavy to move ! I have no room for a long arm, otherwise I would be looking into them. They have to be easier.

My understanding of the differences between the M7 and m7qcs are 1: the way the machine looks; and 2: extra quilting accessories what comes with the m7qcs.

I too had the janome 15000. Couldn’t wait to get rid of it. Got the M7. Best thing I ever did. Love this machine so much it will come with me if I ever evacuate for any reason!!!

Walter, your 6700 DOES memorize your last stitch. In Settings go to page 3 and turn on Resume setting. It's the little machine icon just below the Favorite Stitch setting. See page 35 in your manual.

Excellent video. Too often we make emotional purchases.
Slowing down and analyzing these expensive machines and matching them to our needs prevents buyer's remorse among other things.

Great comparison! They need a technical proof reader!
I have a 22yo Memory Craft that is amazing and have been thinking of upgrading but still trying to figure our what

I am watching your video and it seems that you aren’t taking into the consideration that the m8 has the new brushless motor and the stitch regulator.
Yes they have used the same body for the m6 and the m8. And they have some different features but more than likely both have the new motor. I’m pretty sure that it’s not free.

Not sure how I missed this video when it first aired, but loved it. Long time Janome girl here. Upgraded from my old Memory Craft 7000, that was still running great, to the M7 last spring and I love it. Two things. A Janome rep was in the booth of the store I purchased from at a large quilt show. I asked her, point blank, after hearing rumors, if the M7 was going to be re-released with an ASR. She said it absolutely was not. Well….I guess that wasn’t actually a lie, but it sure was a quasi-truth, because the M8 is really just the M7 with ASR. Second, most of the machine quilting I have done has been straight line quilting, but I did do some free motion quilting on a crib sized quilt on the M7 and the stitches were almost perfect. I’m very very new to free motion work, so I was very surprised that I had such great results. I really doubt that I will upgrade to the M8, tempting though it might be. I actually purchased a 550e at the same time and am in the process of learning to use that machine for edge to edge quilting.

When I read Dan's and Marty's top picks (Google it) because I was done with my Pfaff and kluged ruler quilting that wasn't that great, I my "ears perked up" when I read that they figured ASR was coming for M7 in '24. I decided I'd hang tight and wait for it. The alternative was Bernina, aside from long arm, that is. So glad I did. I'd have been miffed if I'd sprung for the M7 only to learn that this was almost to market. Plan to take advantage of the "sale" price offered now until the end of the year. Pricing on these machines kills me. They are inflated, regardless of the manufacturer, IMO.

Maybe the button sensor is similar to Bernina, where the button can be placed next to screen. I think that's how theirs works

Steve, this was great discussion. I have tried free motion quilting on my S5 and is quite difficult. I am better at quilting with a long arm. The ASR option is available on the new Memory Craft 9480 QC which is being launched in October as well. 9840 is the 9450 with added features...welll.... added ASR. Can't find the price yet...l

Thanks for all the information concerning the differences of the various machines. I am looking at upgrading to the m7 from the Janome 8900. Love this machine but want some features not included on the 8900. A few questions I hope you can answer Do you have your M7 in a flat bed position in a cabinet, or using the table that comes with it? The M7 looks like the machine that will meet my quilting needs. Like the room to the right of the machine since I will straight stitch quilt some of my quilts. You are right in that trying to quilt a twin quilt or larger is difficult and hard on the shoulders, back, etc your advice about the stitch regulator is perfect. I was debating on getting the M8, but your advice made me rethink that. Our quilt shop gives a class on using the long arm and will rent it to us once we pass the class. That seems a lot easier (except for standing) than wrestling a large quilt on a domestic machine. So, I am glad I found your website and appreciate all the common sense advice. I plan on going to the sewing machine shop and look at the M7 as soon as I can and also see if there is a cabinet that can accommodate it. Thanks so much,

For the M7 I am using the table that came with it. The cabinet that comes with it is not very big and it is expensive- I looked at them and I felt that there was not really advantage to me in getting it.

No idea- you would have to ask a dealer because they do a poor job of listing what comes with the machines on the Janome Web Site.
