Claire, This was great! I actually did a diploma in Floristry years ago for personal enjoyment and did a module on the Language of Flowers, it’s so fascinating. Strangely enough, most modern day commercially grown flowers apparently no longer smell like they used to. They’ve been grown to be visually pleasing, and also for longevity, at the expense of the smell (at least, that’s what we were taught). Makes me wonder if the plantations for perfume flowers - think Chanel and Dior have their own growing fields - have concentrated on cultivating the flowers for fragrance? So interesting! 🌺
Oh wow! You should be doing this video 😍 yes I do think flowers grown for Dior and Chanel in Grasse will be specially selected for scent unlike with other flower growing. My mum used to do a lot of floristy and said a similar thing, i.e. that flower breeding and growing is all about looks now, not smell. She said some flowers have such big heads now that wire is essential to hold them up in arrangements. The lack of smell nowadays especially strikes me with carnations, they just don't smell clovey at all in supermarkets to me. Thanks for your super interesting comment Lucinda and thanks for watching ❤️
In the Philippines, the country that I am from, the smell of jasmine (or at least jasmine sambac) is often associated with (Catholic) churches as the flower buds are made into garlands and are offered at the altars, so it is commonly thought of with words along the lines of "pure" or even "holy". It can also symbolize hospitality as it is given to visitors to the country as a gesture of welcome. It's so interesting to learn how in other cultures at certain time periods, jasmine could be associated with love that is sensual and provocative. Or maybe it's just the diverse range of the jasmine scent types available that explains the various ways jasmine is symbolized by different cultures.
Yes jasmine is a very diverse one, it's white and innocence but also seen as carnal and indolic. I think there is very much an East - West cultural split with it and that is absolutely fascinating! It seems like it a symbol for quite a few places, but there are none more associated with it than the Philippines, and it is loved the world over. Thanks for watching ❤️
What a fun video! I had a tiny arrangement of white tulips for my wedding because I couldn’t afford a big bouquet and I got them at a good price!!! 😂😂🤦♀️🤦♀️
This video was just so fascinating/amazing; thank you Claire! 😍 Loved the small details and history in each stories behind these perfume notes! Thank you for the precise background infos & your hard work as well! ❤ It would be soooo lovely if You'd make a series with even more flower notes, I'd just love it! 🤩(F.e.: honeysuckle, freesia, lily, ylang-ylang, tiare, hyacinth, mimosa, orchid, peony, frangipani, heliotrope, lily-of the-valley, lotus, etc... I should stop now....😂) Just thanks a lot! 🙂
Thanks! I might make a second video actually! I really enjoyed researching this but yes, there are lots more and ultimately I stayed off the yellow florals because in the main, the Victorians didn't smell those... but there will be some information from other cultures out there for sure, so I will have a look! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching 😊
Ah this is an interesting video ! I love flowers 🌸💕 I didn’t know they have so many meanings. I love lavender as a flower but not crazy about it in perfume 🌸
I feel the same about lavender. It's lovely in real life but a bit cloying in fragrance. I don't think I realised that they have so many meaning either before making this video!
Haha 🐮 Yes, violet's a beautiful smell for sure. I think I would also wear a violet fragrance. Maybe something like Balenciaga Paris actually, it's very suitable for spring time.
Orange blossom is definitely my favorite (eternal love) love that ❤️ and I love the history behind each note you give us knowledge and I just adore that about you ✨ oh my goodness that classique mini! So gorgeous 🤗✨❤️

Yes! I always thought jasmine was the naughty one but nope... Aah rose is one of my favourites and I had light dusky purple roses in my wedding bouquet. Thanks for watching Veronica ❤️
How interesting! I don't think I would fare very well as a Victorian lady since I adore jasmine and tuberose. My favourite flowers though are gardenias and oriental liliums.
Sorry I keep replying and it keeps disappearing... Yes I love those too so I would also have a problem 😂 and the flowers you like are very classic and beautiful choices. Thanks for watching ❤️
Hello! lovely to meet you! I noticed you have a channel so I subbed! 🥰 I will watch! Lovely choices of flowers, I especially love violets! thanks for watching ❤️
Thank you! I loved researching this, it was so interesting! 🌼 I've tried l'interdit, I like the whole range but I've never got my hands on rouge malachite, but I would love to!!! 🌻
Claire, I loved this video thank you so much. I am a fan of almost all the flowers mentioned here, but in particular Tuberose, Rose, Jasmine and recently Lavendre (which is surprising me😁)...Ta'if Rose😍 is legendary (to me). Jasmine and Jasmine Sambac are highly honored and essential in our Arabian Gulf celebrations especially weddings. Now, Zeus had a lot of questionable moves...but this Dairy Cow story is very entertaining😜.
Yes Taif rose is gorgeous! I don't have many fragrances with it in but wow, it's stunning 😍 jasmine and tuberose are also some of my favourites! Beautiful intoxicating fragrances and such beautiful flowers. And yes, Zeus was a very dodgy guy 😂 the logic astounds me with that story... 😂
Hello Claire, thank you for this wonderful video 💜👍 I love flowers in general and floral perfumes 🥰 Some of the meanings I have known, but there is also a lot of new knowledge for me in your review 👌
Oh fab! Yes I think we all know at least one of these, probably many more! Floriography seems quite a big thing still, especially with roses. Thanks for watching ❤️
What a genius video! I am not familiar with lilac flower. I think I should try drop d'Issy. My favourite flower is gardenia. Beautiful smell and look. Thank you so much claire for this informative video ❤😘
Oh lilac is beautiful! And yes try drop d'issey, it's a lovely creamy skin floral. If I do another video I will put gardenia in! Thanks for watching as always ❤️
They are stunning aren't they? And the scent is wow! I don't think I used to like tuberose at all but now in fragrance I am actually warming to it and positively enjoying it. Starting with something creamy was my way in. If you hate tuberose, don't get any Kim Kardashian perfumes, they all seem to have it in...
@@silverliningfragrance1434 maybe actually is it gardenia that is in all of hers? Not sure, I never tried them. The original Kim Kardashian is meant to be a good one, it's very cheap here, about £6.
Really enjoyed this, thanks Dr Claire. I wish there were more Sweet Pea fragrances. I do love My Burberry but would rather there was a more natural and sweet pea focused fragrance on the market. X
Yes, it was hard to find a designer fragrance that I'd tried with it in... The one everyone talks about is pleats please but I only have l'eau which doesn't have sweet pea... I think sweet pea must be expensive and difficult to do... Thanks for watching ❤️
Thank you! I bet you smelt fab! ❤️ There is a follow-up video to this one, if you loved this one and want to watch that, it's about the dark meanings associated with flowers. 🌹
This was fascinating! I knew a lot about the use of flowers and their use from a literary perspective, but I didn't make the leap to perfumes. Sometimes things are just too obvious that you don't even think about them. Thank you for educating us all! ❤
Rose is definitely one of my favourites, I like how different it can smell depending on the type and yes, it can be very romantic. Thanks for watching ❤️
Jasmine is a strange one isn't it? Because it is so revered in some cultures and in others it's a bit racy, but even the Victorians conceeded that jasmine represented amiability so they must have at least liked it 😉 I love jasmine! It's stunning. 😍
I subbed so I will watch ❤️ I love finding new channels! Thank you, that's lovely! I do that too, find someone new and then watch a lot! Thanks for watching this video ☺️
I definitely enjoyed this i love real flowers and even on perfumes 🤗💕 I love all kinds of violet/purple colored flowers 💜 and yeah mon guerlain for lavender the lavender there is so feminine, i love the rose scent on perfume but not on real 😁 Not a big fan of jasmine on perfume but i love the scent of real jasmine funny is'nt it? 😅 And now i think i am liking tuberose and i want to explore more tuberose perfumes if i will like it as much as i like some that i have in my collection. Great video as always 🙂.
Thank you Rin! I think tuberose is something I've had to come around to, something creamy was definitely my way into tuberose! Maybe you like sweet deep rose fragrances and not the greener rose ones? That might explain why you aren't keen on the smell of the flowers? Thanks for watching ❤️
Hi Claire😊I Loved this very informative and fascinating video. I’m all about roses and rosecentric fragrances 😍🌹So everything you had mentioned, rings very true for me. Thank you for sharing 🙌 Have a lovely weekend.
Thanks Yulia, you too! Yes I love rose in fragrances too, I think some of my earliest perfume loves were rose fragrances. I'm really happy that you enjoyed the video! 🥰
What a fascinating video! I can't think of a flower I don't like. Interesting that couples in Victorian times had to communicate their feelings with flowers. Also loved that Zeus' wife was jealous of his human girlfriend!
Hi Claire! What a great video!! I need a good violet LOVE insolence I wish they still made it in the cute bottle you have 🥺 also tuberose it’s hard for me to enjoy that note in all the perfumes I’ve sniffed. I’ve had my eye on the Madonna one, hard to find but sounds so worth it after all of the reviews I’ve seen so far. Omg I LOVE Nina ricci rose absolue and florabotanica🌹
I don't know why Guerlain changed to their other bottles and reformulated Insolence, it was so popular, but I think Guerlain do that a lot unfortunately. Truth or dare is not worth overpaying for, I've seen it here for £100 now, I think mine was less than £5 😂 and yes the two roses are great ones 😊 thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume I was looking/smelling fragrances and one of the sales ladies came and gave me a stripe with it. I smelled it and really liked then I found her and asked her what it was, it's really nice.
I love this video so much; fantastic research and very inspiring. This could make a great idea for a video tag. I am now curious to read the Floriography book you mentioned. You’ve earned a new subscriber. Out of all of these florals, Violet and Rose are my favorites (yes I believe in love, haha). 🌹
Thank you! That's so kind of you! I will probably do a part two as there are so many flowers to choose from! Oh those two are fab choices, both beautiful flowers and fragrances, two if my very favourites. ❤️ Thanks again for watching and subscribing!
This video was very informative and so interesting!! Loved it. Some of the meaning of perfumes made sense to me, specifically the flowers I'm not into. I was surprised peony wasnt in there but I understand you cant possibly include every flower lol. I just really enjoy peony.
@@dr.claire.perfume Even better!!! I didn't want to be too demanding 😂 I know your videos take time and effort due to the research. I have another channel I'm neglecting because it takes way more mental effort than just discussing perfume. I'm going to get back to it when I have more time to prepare for the videos.
I also have a dark florals video as a followup to this 😊 although I don't think I did magnolia there either 🤔 I can't remember 😂 I don't think I did magnolia in this video as it wasn't usually a gifted cut flower, but maybe I should do another video?! Carnation is very interesting isn't it? It's very distinctive in fragrance! I've not tried any Hiram Greene but I keep hearing good things. 🙂
I'm not a floral kinda gal, and I'm beginning to understand, as per this video, that there are reasons why: "Loyalty, devotion, serenity and grace" - it's no fricken wonder I have issues with lavender! Those are all qualities I covet but which are or have been elusive in my first fifty years in this mortal coil. *sigh I also can't do violet or iris AT ALL. I'm NONE of those things! Hmmm.... Don't get me started on jasmine or tuberose!! Makes so much SCENTS
Maybe I should make another video with some more floral notes and see whether we can find you one that fits?! 🤣 Oh Julija you are so funny! I know you aren't the world's biggest florals fan and I love that. What did Chanel say? A woman shouldn't smell like a flower. See, you are in good company. ❤️ Thanks for watching 😘
Mock Orange has a few different meanings, one of the less positive ones is deceit which is an older judgement on it, the more recent associations are resourcefulness, innocence and love.
Hi Tina, thanks, yes! I did try Alien Goddess last summer. I think I was initially a bit disappointed because I always think of Mugler as a bit daring and Goddess didn't feel like that, but actually it is a very nice fragrance, I love coconut and the jasmine is still there. I think it got a lot of hate from Mugler fans when it came out, but actually it was undeserved. L'Oréal own Mugler now and people just have to accept it. I think that is difficult to be original with coconut because so many fragrances use white florals, vanilla and bergamot with it, it's just a very classic combination that works! 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume you're so right! I was actually one of the disappointed people! Plus I wanted the coconut to stay longer. But later I realized how much I liked it for itself! And gave my purple alien to my daughter. She was very happy. And we both got a purse spray of goddess, ha. I'm getting the new intense version too, when I find the purse spray. Very pretty vanilla!
@@Tina-wi7we ooh I've not tried the new intense yet, but I will when I next got to a store! Yes goddess got so much hate, but it's just a nice one, nothing complicated. What do I wear most? Nothing complicated 😂
@@dr.claire.perfume well actually, I think it’s kind of cool. I was hoping there was a flower that commicated F off vibes to send it to people who stress me out and irritate me, lmao 🤣
Were forget me nots ever used in perfumery? I know they have a very special meaning, as their name suggests obviously, but I never knew if they actually have a detectable scent. It would be wonderful to learn more about unusual and rare florals used in perfumery as well. I'm sure there were a few "secret ingredients" used in specially curated blends.
Hello! I don't think that forget me nots have a detectable scent as far as I know. I don't believe that they are used but someone might have created a fantasy note, so something that a perfumer has imagined the scent of forget me not to be from how they look and what they mean. I actually have another video on floriography coming on Saturday, so keep an eye out. It's on the lesser used floral notes with dark meanings! Thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume Thank you so much for your reply! Forget me nots are my favorite flower. I make jewelry with resin cast pressed flowers and those are particularly precious. Crafting a representation of what someone might expect them to smell like is really brilliant! Very creative! I'm looking forward to your next videos.
@@disideratum oh wow, I love resin jewellery! It's just so so pretty and I love flowers! Did it take you a long time to learn? And no problem, I always try to reply if possible, sometimes I don't see a notification, but if I notice, I reply! ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume Resin casting is quite easy to learn and materials tend to be inexpensive. I'd say the most difficult part of it is preservation of the plant material. Quite a lot of DIY videos on YT. Lots of inspiration there as well.

What a strange thing for the Christian associations... And yes Io would be my flower of choice to munch on too. Perhaps I wear them aching for that too 💜. Ah Pan and his lilac pipes. First loves are certainly the very memorable ones. Yes jasmine is a heavenly flower. Ah Alien 😍 that fragrance does things to me. Tuberose I can defo see being very lusty. Yes rose true love and passion with thorns. I don't think I've ever seen real purple roses. I'd like them. I remember carnations being the flowers of the 80s Wonderful video. I'm thinking of gettin married 🤣 missing the wife but I'd go for violets
Fab choice! 💜 I would choose a very purple floral if I had to choose a wedding fragrance again. They are just very happy smells. 😊 Tuberose and jasmine are indeed very lusty 😜 that's probably why I love them 😂
Yes, those are gorgeous for a wedding, they would give you a beautiful scent bubble too ❤️ I don't understand really why tuberose was treated by the Victorians as something dangerous 😂
So weird that Yasmin means the same as my name 😉 Yes Violets 😍💜 I can see them being for an undying ever lasting love. That's why they smell so good. I'd love violet flavoured milk too. A good life for Io in the end. Also where is my comment on here? 😱 I clearly watched this one. Tuberose is mmm yes it draws anyone in. I think the darker the rose cud be true 😉. I'd love a purple rose too. We only see blooming sprayed ones now. This definitely needs an update or other part 😉 no Noir de Noir 😱. Carnations are really quite an unusual lovely one aren't they. So distinctive. Well I think if Oscar lived now he'd be disgusted and appalled by our government nowadays. Bigots R Us. Fab as ever 🐦⬛🦇🌹🐮 💜
You clearly said something obscene 😂 Yes you are a gift for sure. Did you ever have violet flavoured milk? 😂 the Io story is strange but lovely. Cows are beautiful. 🌹🌹🌹 And yes, it's a sad place to live at the moment with so much pointless rhetoric targeting people who instead need protection. 😭

p.s. A huge jasmin & tuberose lover over here 😆
🤣 you picked two stunning notes 👌 and thank you! I have another floral video coming tomorrow.
Thank you, very informative. 🌼🌸🌺💐🌷🌹
Thank you ❤️
What an amazing video. I really learned a lot. I would have to say Rose is my favorite note! I’m a hopeless romantic. Love your channel Claire.
Rose is definitely one of my favourites, I like how different it can smell depending on the type and yes, it can be very romantic. Thanks for watching ❤️
So yes I’m a Jasmine, I’m a gift from god 🤩 I’m a lover of love and happiness 🤗😌
Jasmine is a strange one isn't it? Because it is so revered in some cultures and in others it's a bit racy, but even the Victorians conceeded that jasmine represented amiability so they must have at least liked it 😉 I love jasmine! It's stunning. 😍
Great video 😍! I recently discovered your channel and I am binge watching your videos 🤗❤️
I subbed so I will watch ❤️ I love finding new channels! Thank you, that's lovely! I do that too, find someone new and then watch a lot! Thanks for watching this video ☺️

What a great video.
Thank you!
Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to write that! ❤️
No wonder I love orange blossom 🤔
Oh orange blossom is a beautiful fragrances and flower too! 🥰
I definitely enjoyed this i love real flowers and even on perfumes 🤗💕
I love all kinds of violet/purple colored flowers 💜 and yeah mon guerlain for lavender the lavender there is so feminine, i love the rose scent on perfume but not on real 😁
Not a big fan of jasmine on perfume but i love the scent of real jasmine funny is'nt it? 😅 And now i think i am liking tuberose and i want to explore more tuberose perfumes if i will like it as much as i like some that i have in my collection.
Great video as always 🙂.
Thank you Rin! I think tuberose is something I've had to come around to, something creamy was definitely my way into tuberose! Maybe you like sweet deep rose fragrances and not the greener rose ones? That might explain why you aren't keen on the smell of the flowers? Thanks for watching ❤️
Beautiful video! 😎👍
Thank you 😊 I appreciate you taking the time to comment. 🥰

Love this video!!! Great topic!
Thank you! ❤️
Another fantastic video Claire😊 waiting patiently for your next single scent video!
Thank you! Yes I need to find some time to do some reading! 👩💻
What a fascinating video! I can't think of a flower I don't like. Interesting that couples in Victorian times had to communicate their feelings with flowers. Also loved that Zeus' wife was jealous of his human girlfriend!
Yes! It's a funny idea isn't it? That you can just talk to someone 🤣 poor Io 🐮
fascinating! thanks for the video!
Thank you for watching! I loved making this, I also found it fascinating to find out the meanings and symbolism of flowers.
Great video Claire!!! I really enjoyed this, thank you so much 💙💙💙

Oh great! I might do another video, I really enjoyed making this!
This is fantastic and informative and fascinating!
Thank you! I got reading and went down a rabbit hole with floriography 😊
@@dr.claire.perfume op you’re right about that I refuse to pay that much for truth or dare. Always a pleasure watching you’re videos Claire! 💗
@@tami.scentral thank you 🥰
I tried yesterday Drop d'Issey Fraiche (in the blue green bottle) it was really nice!
Ooh yes! I tried that a few weeks ago, it's got the same vibe as the original but it's fresher. Drop d'issey fragrances are beautiful 😍
@@dr.claire.perfume I was looking/smelling fragrances and one of the sales ladies came and gave me a stripe with it. I smelled it and really liked then I found her and asked her what it was, it's really nice.

So well done! Thank you for all of the work you put in to this.
No problem 😊 thank you so much for watching 🌟
I love this video so much; fantastic research and very inspiring. This could make a great idea for a video tag. I am now curious to read the Floriography book you mentioned. You’ve earned a new subscriber.
Out of all of these florals, Violet and Rose are my favorites (yes I believe in love, haha). 🌹
Thank you! That's so kind of you! I will probably do a part two as there are so many flowers to choose from!
Oh those two are fab choices, both beautiful flowers and fragrances, two if my very favourites. ❤️ Thanks again for watching and subscribing!

I love my iris fragrances 🥰
Yes, iris is a very different kind of floral in fragrances, very elegant and distinctive ❤️
This video was very informative and so interesting!! Loved it. Some of the meaning of perfumes made sense to me, specifically the flowers I'm not into. I was surprised peony wasnt in there but I understand you cant possibly include every flower lol. I just really enjoy peony.
Thank you 💕 oh I love peony too, I will probably do a part two and I'll put it in! I think I wrote some stuff down but didn't end up using it... 🤦♀️
@@dr.claire.perfume I would love to see a part 2!!! 💗
@@CarmenScentrix I think I have enough for 3 🤣
@@dr.claire.perfume Even better!!! I didn't want to be too demanding 😂 I know your videos take time and effort due to the research. I have another channel I'm neglecting because it takes way more mental effort than just discussing perfume. I'm going to get back to it when I have more time to prepare for the videos.
@@CarmenScentrix yes some videos take a lot of prep 😅
One to add next time might be magnolia. I think I might like carnation best -- I am dying to try PHILTRE by Hiram Greene
@@dr.claire.perfume oh right magnolias are not typically gifted of course. I will look for the dark floral vid.
It's here ua-cam.com/video/NTyODLIG-gE/v-deo.html
Hey lovely Claire! Watching 😊
hello 🤩
I'm not a floral kinda gal, and I'm beginning to understand, as per this video, that there are reasons why:
"Loyalty, devotion, serenity and grace" - it's no fricken wonder I have issues with lavender! Those are all qualities I covet but which are or have been elusive in my first fifty years in this mortal coil. *sigh
I also can't do violet or iris AT ALL.
There is a bush called mock orange that has a heavenly smelling flower. I wonder where that fits in?
Mock Orange has a few different meanings, one of the less positive ones is deceit which is an older judgement on it, the more recent associations are resourcefulness, innocence and love.
I had Chloe love story.
I really liked it 😍
Another great subject! Have you tried alien goddess? It's my favorite alien. Thank you, Claire ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
@@dr.claire.perfume me too, especially in summer. We finally got some rain today, hallelujah. It's been 🔥

Good morning ☕️
Hello Frances 😍
Love the topic! and love flowers! (not in perfumes though and most of flowers are toxic for cats so... I can't have them😸)
🤣 so quite limited then. I know cats are not a good mix with Lillie's, what else are they not supposed to go near?
@@dr.claire.perfume Pretty much everything. Plus they destroy and eat everything. My cats will eat parsley from the garbage / cauliflower leaves and what not🤦♀🤦♀

If I had to get married. I would definitely wear an orange blossom fragrance or a clean Jasmine or tuberose (as much as it is considered lustful 🤣).
Yes, those are gorgeous for a wedding, they would give you a beautiful scent bubble too ❤️
I don't understand really why tuberose was treated by the Victorians as something dangerous 😂
@@dr.claire.perfume I understand them. tuberose and Jasmine can come off very sensual and animalic at times.
