Blacksmithing for beginners: Forging a simple twisted hook

I really want to be able to make hooks and cool stuff. Not very good at it yet. I am a welder and I build smokers and fire pits and stuff but I want to do this too. Man you make it look easy.

what steel do you use?
I am a total beginner and bought some steel that at least looks like yours but sure does not behave like it :D
Its way harder..

I use just regular cold rolled mild steel from our local steel supply, thanks for watching I appreciate it!
