  • Explain: Steph Curry and Warriors steal Game 4 in Boston
    by EricApricot
The Warriors stole NBA Finals Game 4 with a thrilling comeback in the 4th quarter of 2022.06.10. Stephen Curry led the way with composure in the face of shifting defenses and great shot making. The other Warriors fought hard on defense and rebounding and did all the dirty work that adds up to a victory. Co-starring Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole. With Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams and Derrick White.

Steph really CARRIED the Warriors the last 4 games offensively. But HUGE PROPS to Wiggins for being Warriors 2nd Best Player. He's the only one that I have been seeing CONSISTENTLY trying his hardest to help. Hustling, rebounding, defense and everything else Steph needed 👏👏👏
Poole has had some glimpses and moments, especially that 3rd Quarter in Game 2. Klay had 25pts in Game 3. But let's be honest, they've both been streaky.
And don't get me started on Draymond, defensively he's been somewhat present but the rest, he's just being emotional. He should reserve that podcast for AFTER the Finals 🙄🙄
If I were to rank the Warriors top 3 based on the last 4 games:
    1) Stephen Curry
    2) Andrew Wiggins
    3) Kevon Looney

It worked. And no one's complaining. They regularly take Dray out a few minutes into the fourth quarter -- usually they've built up a good lead in the third, so they can take him out for a rest and have him ready for the final minutes. They didn't have that lead this time, but they were square and doing OK, so it was better to give him his regular rest. And then when the subs did well, they kept Dray on the bench to save him even longer, give him more rest and keep him from picking up unnecessary fouls.
If you look at Dray's own comments, he said he didn't care, didn't need to be "talked to" by Kerr or anybody. Yes, he said he was pissed at being taken out, but probably more at himself than anyone for his lackluster play up til then, but that his teammates helped him keep his head in the game, and that's why he played well when he came back -- a couple of tough rebounds and a fine assist to Loon inside.
Dray has a huge ego when he's on the court. You kind of need that to compete at this level. When he's off the court, not so much. Either way, he's all about the team.

I don't have the expertise, the nuanced understanding to breakdown basketball like you do, I greatly appreciate your knowledge. As a Warriors fan, I don't miss their games so your attention to detail explains what I see organically. In professional sports there are 2 absolutes, 1) the other team is trying to win also and they've put in the work to succeed. The Warriors understand this better than most, watch how they don't over-react to opponents success. 2) Fundamentals usually win out especially in close games. Bobby Knight wrote a book I read years ago, the thing I took from it the most is that you don't play against the opponent, you play against and with the principles of the game. Talking heads talk about Curry is playing for Finals MVP. NO AND NO, he is playing to win. Talking heads talk about Draymond underperforming during this series, NO AND NO, he is playing to win. Steve Kerr has had the great fortune to play for Popovich and Phil Jackson, worked with D'Antoni in Phoenix and spent years as a commentator. He is uniquely qualified and gifted as coach of the Warriors to incorporate his knowledge and communicate his understanding. Things like "feed the hot hand", "apply force" and "play to our strengths" has fueled this Warriors run. All these things combined makes Warrior Basketball "The Beautiful Game". Sports fans, basketball fans, Warriors fans - appreciate this now because it won't last forever. Bulls reign, Laker's Showtime, Spurs Big 3, Larry Bird Era, Bad Boys -- all a memory, eventually this will be, too.

🙏🙏🙏 thank you 🙏 you are doing a great job analyzing and breaking down almost every important detail into plays formulating , and giving a very informative description of what’s taking place on and off the ball 🏀 please do a analysis or play by play on the 2016 finals , in games ; games where the cavaliers caught momentum and blew a hole into the warriors strategies, and what the refs were seeing , and the warriors having to play thru. What the refs were seeing 🤷🏻‍♂️ where the cavs were allowed to play as physical as they wanted , and the warriors were getting called for every pity pat foul , and how Steph gotten into foul trouble for one of the first times all season and In the post season , in what seem to be one of the worst called finals in finals history, up there with the 2001 lakers Sacramento series that was suspect af , , but anyhow great 👍 work , can’t wait for more content from this channel thx 🙏 again

Will this game be remembered as the Pistachio Game? Or maybe just the Celtics Flop Game. But probably not; the Celtics have been flopping all year. There were some questionable referee calls in this game, but it's nice that they didn't call every flop as a foul.
Flopping or no, Boston is scary. My thesis that the Eastern Conference is still trash has been blown; it will take a herculean effort to get past these guys, and a lot of skill, and probably luck. It could go either way, folks.
But man, we're seeing some great b-ball action. This might be the best series we've seen in a dog's age.
What can we say about Steph Curry that hasn't already been said? He's not a top 75 player of all time. He's not a top 10 player of all time. He's right up there with Kareem, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James at their peaks. At 34 years old! And doing it against one of the most elite defensive teams the league has ever seen. These Celtics are no pushovers.
I dunno who will win, in the end, but I'm loving every minute of these games, and I feel like gushing praise for Kevon Looney and Andrew Wiggins for their massive contributions, without which even Curry's transcendental greatness wouldn't be enough. The other Warriors have contributed, too - it's always a team effort, but Looney and Wiggins have been standouts.
The Shining Twins do get around, don't they? They want to be best friends with Steph forever and ever. Funny how an innocuous image like that can contain such menace... and that's why the metaphor works so well, these Celtics are indeed menacing.
Thanks, Eric, both for your explanations and your humor. Much appreciated!

Long and hard didst thou fight.
    Tarnished Warriors.
Spurned by the grace of gold.
    Be assured, the Finals Ring

Draymond green needs to work on his shot. he has 2 of the best shooters. He should be taking classes from them. He should be able to give you at least 10 ppg. Specially with all the attention that steph and klay get. Otherwise I hope Kerr keeps subbing him out in the 4 to get some points in from someone else.

Keep on saying it every season especially when he dips so low on the shot, but sadly its gonna be hard for him at this age now to change some of his mechanics at this point.
