- Stephen A. Smith and Teddy Atlas provide their predictions for the Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin rematch after they weigh-in on Friday. Atlas is concerned Canelo may have over trained for his rematch with GGG, saying he may be compensating for not having steroids.

The only thing I agreed with Teddy is that GGG consistently let Canelo escape out the back door. Canrlo was in keying on GGG's right cross - every time he threw it, canelo would lean back, pivot to his left, and escape. Abel needs to have found a way to stop that from happening...

GGG always comes in around 159.5, the only fight he was dead on 160 was the first Canelo fight. he was 159 for all the fights before that. Atlas is talking nonsense about the weight meaning he overtrained anyway. what Atlas is saying would only make sense training camp at 159.6, he finished probably about 164 and the rest is just a weight cut, losing water weight a couple of days before the fight, like everyone does. The fact that they're 4oz under just means they lost a bit of extra water weight, probably to ensure they made weight.
Weight translates to conditioning that's what teddy is talking about example .5 pounds is a telling story on their conditioning. Like under trained or over trained etc.
revo1974 it is if your weight cutting. Just look at fighters who are depleted at weigh ins just to find out they're .1 lbs over the weight limit and cant lose that fraction of a pound cuz of rigorous camps

Schlitz To be be honest, most seasoned mma fans only really watch UFC. They know about guys like Askren and McDonald and probably a few legends outside the ufc, but most fans don’t really care about smaller circuits. Even self proclaimed hardcores are kinda unsure about guys outside of the ufc.

It does when they’re denying their bodies nutrients and water for days before weighins to cut the .1 lbs.That’s why fighters are always es extra pissed at weighins. They flip out because their brains are dehydrated they aren’t thinking straight, they want to eat and they have a million eyes on them. That’s why teddy is saying ggg has usually come in at the limit 160 even when he first started.
GGG doesn't though usually come in at 160, apart from the first Canelo fight, go check his weights for all the fight before that..he always comes in about 159.something. he was 159.6 v Jacobs, 158.9lbs v Brook, 159 v Monroe, 159 v Lemieux etc etc. the list goes on. Atlas is chatting shit here..love the guy though.

Usually your weight change because of body fat variations. They are losing water and some muscle mass doing those huge cut weights to fight on categories usually lower than their natural weights.

I dont understand why in boxing, coming in lighter can mean a bad thing but in MMA its considered a good thing i.e. the fighter trained harder and is in better shape. Boxing makes a bigger deal of 1 pound difference like its this huge statement, but MMA weight fluctuates more.
