Others have thought they knew to look for the star because they were from the area where Daniel had been. Daniel gave an exact count to the year of when the Messiah would come so they knew the time that he should be born would be 20-30 years before that. Then the Magi who learned from Daniel passed the wisdom down and so on.
nope. they worshipped him as God. God incarnate in the flesh. Because of course the baby was Jesus, God incarnate in the flesh. Whether you believe or you do not believe that, is for you to decide for your own self. And I hope that you do believe. However let us be accurate, and acknowledge that the words written in the Bible very clearly state that the Magi worshipped the infant Jesus as the creator God of the Universe, come to world as the Messiah to save all mankind from sin. THAT is what the text of the Bible says. The Magi WORSHIPPED Him! They did not pay homage. Homage is something less than worship.
This is burying the lead, a Magi is a Zoroastrian religious priest. Zoroastrianism was the dominant religion in Babylon and the Persian empire dating back to roughly the time of Ishmael and among the earliest of the Monotheistic religions. Being Priests and learned men in what was probably the most sophisticated society of its day technologically and socially they probably did seem wiser and more intelligent than the average layman of the time. Also being that their religion is likely an offshoot or atleast intermingled with Ishmael, AND having probably intimate knowledge of Judaism from the Babylonian and Persian conquests of Isreal and Judah in the 500BCs it's no wonder they would have studied and known the signs to look for for the coming messiah of the Jews Understanding that is the key to understanding the purpose of the Magi.
I think Jesus was a magi (magician) wich is why they paid homage to baby Jesus. Also in the nostic book of Thomas kid Jesus was indeed performing magic so to speak. Also in the bible he turned water to wine fed the multitude with a couple of loaves n 🐟... And one of his closest disciples was Mary a Magdalene who was also a magi. Hence the name Magdalene. If any of this is discussed in this video I apologize, I clicked on it started listening and had two cents to add. anyway.Have a good day
Another note, they are portrayed as 3, only because of the 3 gifts, it doesn't mention how many there were.
That is 100% true. Though idea that there were three is quite early.
Great job. I like the format where you switch back and forth between the interviewee and your own exposition. [Reposting my comment from before]

So you are going to SBL this year? Where is it being held?
San Antonio. I'll post some updated on my Instagram (tablets and Temples)
Could the magi have been Ašipu? Or anything that would contradict it?
Psalm 72:10 KJV holds the answer about the identity of the Magi.
Also they came later and wasn't the day when he was born
It seems the magi were advanced spiritual people who came to pay homage to the newborn world teacher.
