You guys blow me away. And the bizarre and earnest relationship between you two is very endearing... I come from a yoga-buddhist-all-peaceful background, and I never thought I'd be getting more out of a podcast from an ex-Seal /martial artists, than out of most retreats/teachers/books I've ploughed through over the last 20 years!!!

Jocko, I have to say that stumbling upon your podcast has been the single best thing that has happened to me. Once you see the path in front of you it is very easy to follow, but emotions and anxiety often cloud one's vision of their path. Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect yet. I give myself breaks from discipline to recoup for a few days once a month or so, but hopping back on the wagon is much easier when you know what it is you must do.
The concept of detachment and logical thought is so relieving; curing my chronic anxiety with a 30 second thought flow of "i know what may happen next, and how to respond to each event. I will not dwell on what is to come, only decide on my own action once the time has come. For now I will do what I can, and if nothing can be on, I'll find something else to work on". I no longer am attached to the possible downward spiral that I feared for so long, because it wont happen, I won't let it. I only need control of my actions, not the world around me, to influence my future. I'm only half way through your podcasts and am so excited to continue. You've pointed out all of my flaws and provided every solution, without ever meeting me.
I deeply thank you for sharing the wisdom that you have accumulated in your life, as it is something I used to fear I would never grasp myself. I hope that your are heard by more people around the world every day.

Hi guys, I was in the Army. During my third deployment I was stoplossed and had to stay in an extra 5 months because I was deployed. You don't get to leave mid deployment if you are with your unit, you are there. At least that is how it worked for me and a few Soldiers of mine.(Not that I would want to leave early if my guys were still there anyways) I can't speak for all units but I was never given the option nor would i have taken it anyways. Just wanted to shed some light. You both do great work. Keep doing what you are doing!

One of my worst mistakes happened literally a couple of hours after I had the thought, "life is so amazing, nothing can go wrong." I was so high on feeling good and invincible in that moment, that I didn't pay attention to how I was setting myself up for a totally preventable accident that was a direct result of feeling like nothing bad could possibly happen.

I'm a huge fan of Sam Harris and Joe Rogan. First heard Jocko on Sam's podcast, who pointed me to Jocko's interview with Tim Ferris and Joe Rogan. Awesome coincidence was listening to Joe's interview with Guy Ritchie, and hearing Guy reference Jocko and Extreme Ownership.
Guy: Have you ever heard of Extreme Ownership, written by a couple of former SEALs?
Joe: Yeah, I've had Jocko on the show

I totally get where echo is coming from with the "it's my parents fault I got in trouble for speeding," after he said that I realize I let people off the hook for too much because "they didn't know any better" even though they've had life experience that should have taught them without someone explicitly explaining it. I guess I excuse them for not having common sense? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Wow, sadness not getting a vote. When you experiance sadness you must cry right, to let it out of your body. Or else it will build up and make you sick. But I guess you mean it doesn't get a vote in what you are gonna do. So if something is going on, you decide what to do with it. So if you're sad, you decide what to do with that sadness and what you are gonna do, sadness doesn't get a vote. Strong.

this podcast is a masterpiece but am I the only one that finds annoying the fact that the other guy keeps laughing unnecessarily...?
actually after hearing his speeding analogy... I think Echo Charles just torpedoed himself...
