Wow, that lady is very courageous to be used in this demonstration ☝️!!
Yes she is.
@@lipedemainfo but surely this could have been done without showing her face in a recognizable way? The internet doesn't forget. See, I'm viewing this _one year later._ While this is important information, I would prefer this without exposing someone in such a way. Even if she agreed to be on camera for teaching purposes.
@@thekingsdaughter4233yeah well that's your preference but for me it doesn't bother me. I'm sure if she wanted her face not to be seen they could have filmed it that way or if she didn't want to be in it at all then she wouldn't have agreed to it at all. People show their bodies face and all. It's for learning
Not only that? A legal document is and it must be signed by both parties after consent has been given?...To protect HIPPA rules..😊
@@thekingsdaughter4233 maybe the question should be why does this bother you so much? This lady is very confident without a problem at all. Good on her!
I've lived to be 26 years old without knowing why I can lose weight from any other body section but not from my thighs. Big thanks to you for the explanation and to the model for the courage!
Thank you, for continuing to help with this, for continuing to bring this to the surface of the medical field as the legit issue that it is.
You are most welcome and we agree that there needs to be a much greater awareness for Lipedema.
I am going to my primary care tomorrow to address my possible lipedema.. My orthopedic sent me to a certified lymphedema therapist to determine why my left leg is larger than my right leg.. I am going to need a left knee replacement in a few years.. They want to get the swelling down to have a successful surgery and recovery… The therapist says I have lipedema… Now to my primary to obtain a diagnosis so I can get the compression pump for my legs… I bought 2 pair of Bioflect compression pants to wear.. Trying to educate myself in treatment.. My butt especially is huge.. Causing so much issues for my back.. Praying my primary knows something about lipedema to make a correct diagnosis… Thank you for the video..
Wishing you good luck on your journey to better health. I am not huge fan of Bioflect compression as it is not medical grade strength so it cannot control swelling adequately.
Thank you to this lady.
Good continual learning for us all. Elinor nurse 😇
We are most grateful that she is allowing us to share this information.
Yes, your video was helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. This helps me explain it better to my doctor
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your wisdom ✨
You are so welcome. We hope it is of some help.
I'm so glad to find information for this. My right leg is normal, but my left leg is outsized and easily pits. It's very painful and I have trouble trying to walk.
Lipedema is symmetrical. Look into lymphedema and lipolymphedema
Thanks for feedback. I will certainly take your suggest.@@kdelka81
Your left leg may have lymphedema or it could be from Pelvic Vein Compression. We recommend you consider an evaluation with a venous and lymphatic specialist.
She looks good to me!
Omg. That literally just described me.
Omg, this is me! I didn’t know!
This was extremely helpful. My question is how do I explain this to my own General Practitioner? Is there a leaflet I can get to take with me to the Doctor's I see? What are the treatments if any to help me with this condition?
Intermittent fasting, no sugars, no carbs, and moderate physical activity every day for the rest of your life.
Linda, We recommend very low refined carbs, whole. low processed foods , healthy fats [ less soybean and more olive and avocado oil, and quality low-processed protein. Medical Grade compression for the legs. See More Here www.lipedema.net/nutritious-eating-to-reduce-lipedema.html
I'm confused by the Stemmer's sign-- I had thought that if you CAN pinch the skin, then Stemmer's sign is negative, which is also a negative for lipedema? We would benefit from some videos with more examples of pos/neg Stemmer's. All the videos on YT are too vague, showing only one example (no comparison) with no real gauge of how hard one is working to pinch.
Also, as it is a progressive disease, many of us are wanting to catch it EARLY before it gets worse. This woman's case is rather obvious. How do very early stage lipedema patients get their Dx? I'd love to see a video like that on a less obvious case.
You are correct if you CAN pinch the skin, then Stemmer's sign is negative. Pure lipedema without secondary lymphedema has a negative Kaposi Stemmer's Sign. I appreciate your comments and we will work to have more comparisons in the future.
@@lipedemainfo Thank you for the clarification. I'll look forward to future vids!
More interesting to understand is how do you differentiate it with normal fat. Most people with lipedema are just considered fat
Most people do not understand it is unique fat disease.
I am 5’5” 124. I am sure I have this. My fat areas, legs, hips, thighs, it hurts, always tender. I bruise very easily. The fat feels like bumps of peas. It sits oddly on some areas, very much out of proportion. How do you stop the fat areas from being painful?
First get a proper diagnosis. Lipedema can be managed with non surgical treatment and surgery . For more information, please go to lipedema.net. Wishing you the best of health.
I hope you’ve quit all and any junk food. Sugar, fried foods, starchy foods etc. we are what we eat. 👍🏻
@@lipedemainfo thanks. I’m looking for someone local that can help diagnose.
Do you dx? I am having issues finding a provider who knows enough about it to give the diagnosis.
Yes we diagnose women with lipedema every day.
Has she ever completely got off sugar, sodas, any prepared foods, avoid coloring as much as possible , exercise, like walking, no smoking I hope, I pray you get better🙏💯 I can see that you have a bad problem, I have fatty liver cirrhosis stage 4, plus now have neuropathy, when I cut all that stuff off my diet, I got 💯 percent better on the neuropathy and helped my swelling from cirrhosis.
She had been following a healhty low refined carbohydrate diet which helps but does not cure lipedema. She is doing much better.
Please! Who treats lipedema? I have had this for several years and my primary care physician is aware of the many nodules in my arms but no one has ever mentioned to me what it is actually called. I am a 68 yr old female and have had post lyme syndrome for over 35 years and suffer from several autoimmune issues. I still work but had to start wearing compression socks and am in constant pain. Any information would be so appreciated.
Venous and Lymphatic Specialists are most likely able to help.
@@lipedemainfo ...thank you so very much for this information...next visit to my primary care physician there will be a serious talk about this.

What is the treatment for Lipedema?
Lipedema treatment starts with compression, a low carbohydrate diet and exercise. For women with lipedema who need additional help lipedema reduction surgery can be be very helpful.
This is a great example because it is clearly visible that this woman has disproportion in her limbs. I think it helps to use someone with an in-range BMI, so that the layman cannot make the mistake of confusing obesity with lipoedema. To the trained eye, even when someone is overweight, lipoedema is still relatively easy to distinguish but to the untrained eye and the general public, they are one and the same and even doctors are guilty of not being able to differentiate between the two, which is quite shocking and very unhelpful to sufferers. I have a BMI of 22 and am a healthy weight for my height, I swim a mile 3 times a week and walk regularly. I use medically prescribed compression socks and eat a lower carb diet but still my lipoedema progresses and it’s disheartening. I am now considering medical liposuction but of course it is not funded in the U.K., so somehow I have to find the money for it myself. It’s very unfair. Love to all women with this condition.
@@labradormom3656 …… Hi, I have been researching and found that the rebounder or a big bouncy exercise ball helps with this issue. Research it, good luck.
It's not fat in her legs 😮
It's fluid build-up and can lead to thrombosis or kidney failure.
Lipedema tissue is primarily an increase adipose tissue . There is only a very slight increase fluid.
What’s the treatment
www.lipedema.net/Lipedema-Treatment.html and www.lipedema.net/overview-liposuction-lipedema.html
I had to stop wearing jeans because my left leg is bigger than my right. The pants are too tight on the left side. Along with the whole left side being swollen. You can see my stomach is bigger , my hip my lower stomach. I look lopsided. .
You should consult with a doctor. You may have lymphedema or possible deep vein compression.
@@lipedemainfo thanks. I'm trying to get an appointment
Is cuffing always present? I don’t have it in my ankles or wrists but I believe I have lipedema from the tissue which shows the cottage cheese texture all the way from my ankles to my hips (stage 1, 53kg at 158cm)
A significant number of women with lipedema do not have ankle or wrist cuffs; however, when wrist and ankle cuffs are present they narrow down to just a few diagnostic options.
Is it possible to have noduel s and not have lipedmia????😢
Yes.
What cause this??
Lipedema is a loose connnective tissue disease that cause disproportionate tissue growth and swelling in the limbs. The exact cause is unknown but there is a strong genetic predisposition with 40 - 60% of women have 1st degree relatives with the disease.
What a very beautiful secure woman. Lipodema doesn’t define who you are.
Sweet Wampum!
The colour of the skin is way more red than the rest of the body.
Maybe more inflammation in that area that is more red
Biggest turn off is when a doctor says ummm and ahhhh and um Mumm seriously though just listening to him is umm annoying....
I agree. Those "nodules" are LYMPH nodes and you should be able to feel these completely normal structures. Cellulite is a normal development in most mature women following adolescence. This doctor really annoys me. It's body shaming in order to increase his business.
@@robinmills7375
Totally agree 💯
@@robinmills7375wrong. You have no clue about this condition. Smh

Robyn. This is not cellulite, it is a adipose tissue disease that is biologically different from cellulite. It is very hard to confuse lipedema tissue nodules with lymph nodes. Superficial Lymph nodes are in very specific locations primarily in the groin and axilla and neck. These modules have been studied . I encourage you to learn about more about them www.lipedema.net/lipedema-nodules-manual-extraction.html

Why cant doctor dress her well?
Unfortunately, this is the only way to show these physical signs. She is brave enough to help others.
Do you think health insurance will begin to cover more liposuction treatments for this disease?
We are having some success with getting coverage with United Health Care.
