Thank you for the great video! I was worried I made the wrong decision buying the 10-18mm lens instead of the more expensive 10-22mm. Your comparison assured me that I did not sacrifice much quality in being cheap. You have cured my buyer's remorse!
I think particularly if you want great photos and all you have is these two lens I would go for the 10-22mm it just seem that bit more sharper and it has better manual focus and uses standard 77mm filters, place you have that extra zoom in there. I do Think though if you use your DSLR for VIDEO and not very many photos then the 10-18mm is a no brainer its the best ASP-C (crop sensor) wide angle lens you can get if you want smooth stable video with out doing any thing fancy to your camera like buying a gimbal or stabilizer of some kind it also has a silent auto focus which is prefect for audio on video being clean no mater what mic you use, it usually will pick up the sound of the lens motor on the 10-22mm even if it is slight it can be still annoying, 10-18mm doesn't have that problem so my recommendation if you going to do VIDEO get the 10-18mm if you want to do photos too and your on a budget the 10-18mm is fine but if you can go the better quality 10-22mm for photos.
I think the 10-18 has a significant edge as far as colours and clarity are concerned. It also has less distortion. So to me the 10-18 just seems to be a better lens.
very well done review - I'm a 10-22mm shooter on APS-C for years (aka 3+ Canon DSLR bodies) - so I guess the 'advantage' would be the STM technology for HD video shooting. thought the Image Stabilization performance in low-light would also be a plus for the HD video shooters - sticking with my 10-22mm
Thanks! The 10-22 is my main UWA lens as well, however I have been rather disappointed by the sharpness of it. Has the 10-22 been delivering relatively soft images to you? (The 10-18 isnt any sharper than the 10-22 either)
ZY Productions yes, soft-ish, but my alternate for wide-angle just got more expensive Canon fisheye 8-15mm < which has a dangerously curved lens front, thus just waiting to scratch it - full frame is in my future; 5d MkIII when the MkIV etc comes out
Yes, i have a 10-22 too... I bought it 2 days ago and i'm very impressed :)) I like this lens... My second favourite lens is a 100mm USM macro and third one is a 70-210 USM. :))) These are my lens for my canon 700D. :)
I bought a Canon EOS350D outfit with 18-55 and 50-200 zooms for about £500, and added the 10-22 for the same cost! Still love the 10-22, especially for internal shots.
Thank you for that review as I am on the canon site deciding which lens to buy. I am looking at refurbished vs new and your review was very helpful in my decision to go with the 10-18 as opposed to the 10-22. Thanks Again.
Very informative and helpful! Thank you so much. I am about to buy one of the lenses but have been unsure which one I should go for. Very helpful indeed.
Many thanks for this very thorough evaluation of these two lenses. Just bought the 10-22mm and have noticed there is quite a high incidence of CA. Otherwise I am well pleased with the overall results.
thank you for your review videos. It's a great help for my friend and I who both got the 70D. I picked up the 10-18mm canon for my youtube recording and it's such a big difference and the perfect lense I was looking for. Prior to that I got the canon 24mm.
great video ! but which one did you like better or thought was better overall? I'm looking to buy anUWA and I'm stuck between these 2. the IS is a concern for me since i do video.
I have always thought that the 10-22 had an all metal body, not plastic like he says. If the 10-22 is plastic, then it is a very hard, thick plastic. [EDIT] All of the 10-22 images looked brighter, and the fringing can be corrected with one click of the mouse.
I was visiting Elgiganten shop yesterday and found one at the sale table. I bought one for 150 euros in Malmö city in Sweden. Brand new. I just found it and bought it. Didnot use my canon systemcamera since 3 years. Will test it this week. Otherwise I use sony A6500.
Hello there, I got two questions to ask. 1)Does IS on 10-18mm len affects the video quality during handheld? Significant different between IS ON and OFF? 2) Which one is recommended for Wedding video shooting? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
The 10-18mm is a good lens but F 4.5 - 5.6 is what kills it. I don't care if it has STM or IS.....I bought the 10-22mm for the same price as the 10-18mm used. Don't buy it brand new because the 10-22mm has solid build quality and even used will still be in great shape. In this video he didn't test the 10-22mm F3.5 aperture which is the key factor in buying the 10-22mm. Just do it right the first time..
The difference in aperture is 0.7 fstops. An image stabilizer is worth 2-3 fstops. Unless you shoot moving targets IS is better than less than one fstop in aperture.
Thank you for the great video. I am looking to buy a new gear next month and I've been very confused about what to buy. My old setup was a Canon Xti with Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye that I use for skydiving. I am going to buy the Canon EOS Rebel T6i and for lens I am between: Tokina 10-17mm F/3.5-4.5 DX Autofocus Fisheye, Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM, but this would be my last option since the price is double of the other, also double of the weight and is only f/4. What would be the best option? Should I just keep the Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye? Which I don't see much wider when using with my xti. Thank so much. Peace
+BrazilianShark Picking between a fisheye and a rectilinear ultrawide will give you rather different results. Depends on what look you're after. If you prefer a fisheye, I'd probably say stick with the 15mm, because the 8-15 L is probably a bit too bulky and heavy to skydive with. For a rectilinear ultrawide, I'd probably say the Tokina, as it's better value for money compared to the Canon.
Hi zy, this is a great video, thanks. By the way which do you think is better lens to use in my Canon 60D and my glidecam HD. I'm thinking to buy either Samyang 8mm or 14mm, i.m doing wedding videos which do you think is better?
The Samyang 8mm is a fisheye, I generally prefer rectilinears on glidecams so I think the Canons would be a better choice, since they are slightly wider than the 14mm Samyang, and you can adjust the focal length of the Canon zooms depending on your needs :)
Absolutely. If you're shooting a Canon crop sensor camera with the EF-S mount, these are definitely your best options for real estate photography (especially interiors). I recommend shooting in the 11 to 14mm range for Best results. Shooting at the widest 10mm tends to cause barrel distortion.
hi i have a 700d whit 50mm 1.4 its a great objetive but a certains of ocasion the 50mm its too large for shootin in a room (per example) you think the 10-18 its a good alternative for this places? thank you
10-22 is superior to 10-18 if you are taking indoor pictures. However, for outdoor, I did not see any difference besides the slight chromatic aberration in 10-22mm. For video I would go with 10-18.
+Justin Sweeney If you'll be using the video autofocus feature then the10-18's STM should work slightly better. However for manual focus, I would prefer the 10-22's mechanical manual focus.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. What would you recommend for a great vlogging LOW LIGHT lens? I'd prefer wide angle because I'll be filming myself and others as well. I have the 10-18 and it's okay, but I feel like there must be something better out there. Anything you can recommend that will excel in low light that would be great for vlogging? Thanks again!!
It's a little hard hearing you say "chromatic aberration" when I see darkening in the corner, the darkening is vignetting. Chromatic aberration occurs when different frequencies of light are diffracted differently so you get red fringing and blue fringing on the edges where contrast is high, for example, when I tried to photograph a silver gull using a Sigma 85mm lens wide open.
He was talking about chromatic aberration since there was visible color fringing in the corners. He did not confused these two things with each other at all.
Im planning buying the 10-22 because of the extra f stop, 3.5 is probably notably better than 4.5 and i can get it cheaper than the 10-18, would you say thats a good reason? i do only video work
Deyomash the stabilizer could be helpful for videomaking. The 10-22 doesn’t have it. And STM is more silent than USM. So for videos I think 10-18 is a better choice.
I got the 10 to 18 it's an incredible lens super fast in focusing it doesn't actually feel cheap at all if anything it feels like but that's a good thing in my book you can use it for all social situations that image quality I've got from them is incredible
I had the 10-22 before I sold it when i went full frame. Kind of wished i kept it for my wife's 100D. Anyhow Thanks for this real world comparison. According to kenrockwell.com he said the 10-18mm blows the 10-22mm in sharpness... i knew the 10-22mm has a slight advantage at wider apertures...but no matter the 10-18 is half the price of the 10-22 but u can pick up a 2nd hand 10-22 for less then $500.00 CAD. 10-18mm sells for 359.99 CAD before sales taxes which comes out to $400 CAD after taxes.
I didnt find the 10-18 any sharper than the 10-22, but either way I wasn't very satisfied at all with the sharpness of either these lenses. I've used the 10-22 for quite a long time and the main issue for me is that the lens is really really soft. But you have a good point there, the 10-18 is only a small fraction of the price of the 10-22 ;)
ya ultra wide angle lenses aren't as sharp as prime nor regular zoom lenses but the 10-22mm does the job. The new 16-35mm f4L IS for full frames is much sharper but still doesn't compare to my regular zooms nor prime lenses.
Paul Brassington It sure does since it is an APS-C sensor camera with a crop factor of 1.6. So you multiply the focal length by 1.6 to get the actual focal length your camera picks up. So 10mmX1.6 = 16mm.
Tony Tan I got the 24mm prior to switching to the 10-18mm and there's a huge difference in wide angle views. You can check out my channel to see some difference. the last 2 videos I believe is the 10-18mm and a few before that was the 24mm.
in singapore, bnew of 10 -18mm is 340 lowest price i found . 720 for bnew 10 -22mm Is it worth dishing out twice the price for a bnew 10-22mm ( 2nd hand is around 450 btw) 10-22 seem to be more flexible in performance indoors. since it can go to f3.5, but will the double price be worth it for that f1.0 difference? im caught up between the two. I have a 50mm 1.4 that performs great indoors and i was thinking do i really need a f3.5? or i should settle with f4.5? mainly deciding between the two bec i dont have any wide angle lens yet
Im considering the cost as well. Tokina 11 -16 if im not mistaken abit higher price compare to 10-22mm. Mostly ill be using it for landscape. so i think its safe to say 10-18 will be the best for its price?
I need to photograph the interior of some historic buildings in my city. For this I am researching to buy a 10-18 or 10-22 lens. From the experience you had with both lenses, which one would you use for greater richness of detail and sharpness in dimly lit environments where flash can not be used?
Thank you for the great video! I was worried I made the wrong decision buying the 10-18mm lens instead of the more expensive 10-22mm. Your comparison assured me that I did not sacrifice much quality in being cheap. You have cured my buyer's remorse!
10-18 has to be one of the best value lenses ever made. Bought mine in 2018 and still love it
I think particularly if you want great photos and all you have is these two lens I would go for the 10-22mm it just seem that bit more sharper and it has better manual focus and uses standard 77mm filters, place you have that extra zoom in there. very helpfull thank you, i've been literally researching what lense to buy for hours!!!
Just bought the 10-18 and loving it. Thanks for the hot tips.
+Mike Bowler, so have i, it's great lens :)
Your review is very good. I'll be buying a 10-22 used from amazon, instead of the less expensive 10-18. Thank you!
I think the 10-18 has a significant edge as far as colours and clarity are concerned. It also has less distortion. So to me the 10-18 just seems to be a better lens.
Informative, indeed. I am making up my mind in favor of the 10-18.
Yes, bought one. Doing good.
@@RKSudan thanks for coming back and doing your personal review

I just started my photography journey, I picked up a 10-22 of eBay for a little over a hundred, in perfect condition.
Thank you for that review as I am on the canon site deciding which lens to buy. I am looking at refurbished vs new and your review was very helpful in my decision to go with the 10-18 as opposed to the 10-22. Thanks Again.
excellent video -very helpful. The comments/discussion are also a big help.
The 10-18 aperture is the biggest problem in low light indoors/shade scenarios. If you have good light the wide angle view pictures are mind blowing.
Vary good job. One of the better comparison out there.
Great video bro. What's the mix you're using please? Thanks
Well done. That is the perfect side-by-side that I wanted to see. Thanks!
My 10-18 has given my 100D a new lease of life
Thanks, I was struggling to decide between these two.
i have 10-18mm for my canon 760d..and satisfy with it...
What will you recommend, I’m using canon 80d for both film and photography. What should I get? :)
I am in the same spot myself
l got a used 10-18 for shooting mainly stills with the EOS M50. l chose it over the 10-22 because of smaller size, lower cost, and lS.
Very informative and helpful! Thank you so much. I am about to buy one of the lenses but have been unsure which one I should go for. Very helpful indeed.
Excellent review. Great info and well presented. Told me everything I needed to know to make my choice between these two lenses.
You gave the best review of the lenses! Thanks for sharing.

Great video. Helped out with my choice in lens!
How bad is the barrel distortion for these lenses on the 80D?
Many thanks mate, that was exactly what I needed.
Today I got 10-22 with paying $200! Good deal!!
Where???????? I need to buy one today!!!!
Please i need to buy the 10-22 and your price is best so far!!!
The Amazing World Out There yeah it was best deal haha. I bought it from offerup. Check it out. You may get lucky one!

Million views! Great job fellow Malaysian!
Thanks! :)
Great review. This helped me make up my mind. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I’ve been looking for a wide angle for my crop sensor 7d
Very helpful, thanks!
Awesome job man thank you so much for sharing this information I know what to get now
Thanks, very helpful. I needed to know what I was paying double for between the lens. Not much at all.
10 to 18mm for video and photography 10 22mm for photography but faster focus I love my 10 22mm it is great couple to 24 105mm
Thanks for the good work. Maybe you can also mention about the advantage of STM motor over USM in video applications.
I was going to go with the 10-18mm until I found the 10-22mm on market place for $300 lightly used.
Please use a D-esser in the audio...
compatible wedding photography canon 60D ?
Do you consider the Tokina 11-16 DX II better than these Canon lenses?
No.
Awesome review!
I am most concerned with focusing motor noise for video. What is your opinion of the two lenses on this feature?
Hello there, I got two questions to ask.
1)Does IS on 10-18mm len affects the video quality during handheld? Significant different between IS ON and OFF?
2) Which one is recommended for Wedding video shooting?
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
1) Not too much difference, helps abit when trying to keep the frame still, but difference is subtle.
2) Tokina 11-16 F2.8
:)
Can i use the 10-22 on my m50 with the efm lens adapter? Since the 10-22 has that black plasticy mount thingy at the back
The 10-18mm is a good lens but F 4.5 - 5.6 is what kills it. I don't care if it has STM or IS.....I bought the 10-22mm for the same price as the 10-18mm used. I could get the 10-18 for 200€, 10-22 at least for 280€
how did you get the 10-22 so cheap? :D
MrJereTV Used off Ebay.
TripleTap I tought so... very lucky offer or not? :D couldnt find such a cheap offer..
TripleTap what's the big deal if it has STM or IS?
The difference in aperture is 0.7 fstops. An image stabilizer is worth 2-3 fstops. Unless you shoot moving targets IS is better than less than one fstop in aperture.
Thank you for the great video.
I am looking to buy a new gear next month and I've been very confused about what to buy. My old setup was a Canon Xti with Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye that I use for skydiving.
I really like your video and your voice . May I know which lava mic you are using in this video ??!! 💪
Hi. I'm choosing between the canon 10-18mm and the sigma 10-22mm. Can you help me decide? I'll be using it with my eos M2 with a canon adapter.
Are these good for real estate photography?
Absolutely. If you're shooting a Canon crop sensor camera with the EF-S mount, these are definitely your best options for real estate photography (especially interiors). I recommend shooting in the 11 to 14mm range for Best results. Shooting at the widest 10mm tends to cause barrel distortion.
Thank you, this was very helpful.
I'm so confused between canon 10-18 and Tokina 11-16 .. Can u give me your opinion ?
tokina definitely!
Thank you. You made my decision much easier on which lens I'm getting.
That's fantastic to hear! You're very welcome and all the best with your new lens!
You are my go to guy always ! Great video :)
hi i have a 700d whit 50mm 1.4 its a great objetive but a certains of ocasion the 50mm its too large for shootin in a room (per example) you think the 10-18 its a good alternative for this places? thank you
10-22 is superior to 10-18 if you are taking indoor pictures. However, for outdoor, I did not see any difference besides the slight chromatic aberration in 10-22mm.
For video I would go with 10-18.
What about vlogging? Any big difference? Will both be quick to adjust focus? I'll be in selfie mode a lot. I'm shooting with a 70D. Thanks!!
+Justin Sweeney If you'll be using the video autofocus feature then the10-18's STM should work slightly better. However for manual focus, I would prefer the 10-22's mechanical manual focus.

The Sigma 18-35 Art lens :) It'll be a bit more expensive than the 10-18 or the 10-22, but to me that lens is worth every penny.
How does the Sigma compare with the 10-18 STM lens if you are relying on the autofocus?
You just earned a subscriber my man... well done!
It's a little hard hearing you say "chromatic aberration" when I see darkening in the corner, the darkening is vignetting.
Chromatic aberration occurs when different frequencies of light are diffracted differently so you get red fringing and blue fringing on the edges where contrast is high, for example, when I tried to photograph a silver gull using a Sigma 85mm lens wide open.

hi, please tell me 10-18mm is good Or not ??? compere to 10-22 mm -APS-C ULtra
Good comparison video
Great video!!!! Thanks for the info!!!!
Why you stopped at f8 instead of f11 ?!
so for photo 10-22mm
and for video 10-18mm?
please help me decide its 2019.
You are correct. 10-18 better for video, 10-22 better for photos.
Which of these would be better for video purposes? Af, sharpness, as well as lens noise?
what is lens noise
GeniusPanda the audible sound the lens makes while autofocusing.
Alex Young the 10-18 has silent autofocus where as the 10-22 the noise is audible
10-18 is best
I got the 10 to 18 it's an incredible lens super fast in focusing it doesn't actually feel cheap at all if anything it feels like but that's a good thing in my book you can use it for all social situations that image quality I've got from them is incredible
10-18mm available refurbished from Canon for $189
Good lens for the money
is the canon 10-22 a better lens

ya ultra wide angle lenses aren't as sharp as prime nor regular zoom lenses but the 10-22mm does the job. The new 16-35mm f4L IS for full frames is much sharper but still doesn't compare to my regular zooms nor prime lenses.
Please advise if the 10-18mm becomes 16-28.8mm when on the Canon 2000d and the 10-20mm becomes 16-32mm
Paul Brassington It sure does since it is an APS-C sensor camera with a crop factor of 1.6. So you multiply the focal length by 1.6 to get the actual focal length your camera picks up. So 10mmX1.6 = 16mm.
Great review, thanks.
amazing review!!!
1/4 second waterfall shots here I come :D :D :D
can we use this 10-22mm for 700D canon?
yes
On the video the 10-22 mm looks much sharper!
do you recommend the 10-18 ultra wide or just the 24mm wide angle? I use a cheap camera body. (T5 and 1.4 50MM)
For a crop 24mm isn't really that wide. I'd go for the 10-18.
do you recommend lens hood on the 10 MM or 50mm 1.4?
Tony Tan I got the 24mm prior to switching to the 10-18mm and there's a huge difference in wide angle views. You can check out my channel to see some difference. the last 2 videos I believe is the 10-18mm and a few before that was the 24mm.
in singapore, bnew of 10 -18mm is 340 lowest price i found . 720 for bnew 10 -22mm
Is it worth dishing out twice the price for a bnew 10-22mm ( 2nd hand is around 450 btw)
10-22 seem to be more flexible in performance indoors. since it can go to f3.5, but will the double price be worth it for that f1.0 difference? im caught up between the two. I have a 50mm 1.4 that performs great indoors and i was thinking do i really need a f3.5? or i should settle with f4.5?
mainly deciding between the two bec i dont have any wide angle lens yet
aznpwr9900 The 10-22mm performed horribly indoors as well for me. If you'll be shooting a lot in low light, you can consider the tokina 11-16 F2.8.
Im considering the cost as well. Tokina 11 -16 if im not mistaken abit higher price compare to 10-22mm. Mostly ill be using it for landscape. so i think its safe to say 10-18 will be the best for its price?
The 10-18 appears to be more value for money. The 10-22 is not a cheap lens. Having bought a 10-22 myself, I wished I went for the 11-16 instead.
Thank you. The vid was very good.
Great video! Help me a lot! Ty
awesome review!
I'm surprised about the CA on the 10-22.
Wait, please cast Liddell bit.
Nice lens
Great Video, Very helpful
great channel mate!!!
Great video! What program do you use to do your screen cast?
Thanks! I use Nvidia Shadowplay.
best lens for vlogging? i have canon 700d. 10-18 or 10-22?
10-18 should be better because of the image stabilization
Nice Video!
Great video! Thanks buddy, I made my decision. :)
I need to photograph the interior of some historic buildings in my city. For this I am researching to buy a 10-18 or 10-22 lens. From the experience you had with both lenses, which one would you use for greater richness of detail and sharpness in dimly lit environments where flash can not be used?
10-22. If better low-light capability is required I can suggest the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8
...this is a great review. I have both lenses and this is very helpful review especially for those who might be on the fence about one or the other...
I got the canon 10/20mm F3.5/4.5 EF
