- In this video I show how to install power fold and auto dim outside mirrors on your 2003-2012 Saab 9-3.
Electrical pin removal tool: amzn.to/2JhcvaI
Part numbers shown in video
Driver power fold and auto dim mirror: 12767046
Driver power fold and auto dim harness: 12766779
Passenger power fold and auto dim mirror: 12767052
Passenger power fold and auto dim harness: 12766780
Power fold (w/o memory) switch: 12782903
Note: In 2010 the mirrors were redesigned. So 2010-2012 mirrors will fit previous models (2003-2009) cars but the colored mirror caps and glass is slightly larger and will not transfer over to the 2009 and older mirror designs.
For the power fold function (Note different harness part number may have different colors but pin number will be identical)
1.) On the driver side:
The gray window switch connector needs pins #31 yellow/gray and #18 blue/gray swapped over from the power fold harness to your original door harness
2.) On the passenger side:
The gray window switch connector needs pins #31 yellow/gray and #18 blue/purple swapped over from the power fold harness to your original door harness
For the auto dim function
1.) On the driver AND passenger side:
On the main electrical block going from the body of the car into the door harness needs pins #8 yellow/black and #7 yellow/white taken from the power fold harness and added to your original door harness

Just to clarify I wasn't able to get the auto dim mirror glass in and test functionality in time before I posted this video. Unfortunately, it will require a little more work. Initially I thought the car was prewired like it was for the auto dim rear view mirror but that is not the case. I will post another video connecting pins #7 and #8 in the main door harness (shown in this video) up to the auto dim rear view mirror connector. Main take away is that the power folding mirrors are working great though! More to come on the auto dim functionality so stay tuned!
Nice video with everything made simple. There's a '04 Aero 4 cylinder Convertible at a Pick Your Part that has these mirrors. Time to go get them and the wiring harness to install on my '07 Aero V6!
You can also use a razor to remove the door's sound deadener adhesive with ease 👍🏽 Awesome video
Nice work and well explained. BTW, since 2010 9-3 Aeros came with folding mirrors. I have a 2011 9-3 Aero and it does have folding mirrors. Slap on esid3 and you have the option to customize folding too.
Great work! I’d like to hire you to figure something out. I have a 2004 9-5 Aero and want to add powerfold mirrors. Would you be interested in this project?
Thanks friend! Unfortunately I don't have a lot of free time at the moment to even work on my own projects
Great video! Just curious why you didn’t install the new wiring harness directly instead of adding it to your old harness?
Initially, I did swap the entire harness but ended up with a bunch of door lock issues I couldn't overcome. I was worried the video would be too long, so I left the harness swap out.
interesting how u can do these mods,,,ur forta is the electrical aspects of those mods...i deeply appreciate ur work.....take care jimmy from ne pa area...outside hersheyps love to get a clone tech2 any direction i should look for one
I have a 2004 9-5 Aero with manual, heated, dimming mirrors. I’d like to retrofit power fold mirrors into my car. Can you assist me with some ideas on how to do this? The 9-5 has a door trim switch similar to the 9-3, but the 9-5 also has a separate power fold switch in the dash.
My 2003 vector convertible has these power mirrors as standard,uk
Great video! Do you know if this can be done with a 2004 9-5 Aero?
Serious next level shit. Wires scare me, so I guess maybe I bought the wrong car LOL. Still, the car I just bought is a 2010 Aero, the Aero with the 2 L engine. It has folding mirrors and memory seats stock. My only problem is that the passenger mirror doesn’t move with any of the controls. But yes, they did sell a couple of these in the United States in 2010 I guess.
just finished doing that swap on my 06 9 3 aero SC , still need to activate the option with tech 2
Can I do this on my 2002 9-5 saab
Do your mirrors have power dip, to aid reversing, as well as power folding?
Some had power fold, some had power dip, some had both.
The glass on anti dim
Can Start to discolour,
Mine did, they then have to be changed.
Not an easy job doing the mirror conversion,
But we'll worth doing. 👌
My mirrors on my red car are just power fold. My blue 9-3 originally had power dip but I really never used the dip feature
Alternatively, wait for a car that's breaking from a rear end smash in the same colour paint with folding and tilting mirrors and just swap the doors. You will still need a tech2.
they should automatcally unfold if you go higher than 30 km per hour, try it on, mine does that
or maybe it was easier to change the entire cable in the door completely
Hello,
I was working on my saab 9-3 today to find out that my folding mirror was disconnected. Unfortunately the left side mirror is not working properly, its t locking position is offset and the it won't fold out. is it possible to remove the outer rear view mirror/housing from the door just to remove the cover to access the two bolt holding the mirror housing?
Hi! I recently got an 07 9-3 Anniversary Edition and I do plan on retrofitting the power folding mirrors. However, I also want the mirror tilt function which requires memory mirrors (which isn't a problem) and memory seats (which is). I have power non-memory seats so I'd have to either swap in an Aero driver seat and change in the seat covers or somehow retrofit a memory bits so that the mirror can read the memory controller. Could I just get the tilt switch and use that to tilt or is the memory controller absolutely required?
1 year later.... I know I'm late. I'm tracking down the full kit power folding + memory and if I'm lucky auto-diming.
Keep on the hunt! I literally use the powerfold mirrors everytime I drive the car. It's the most practical install I've done on the car to date.
Nice. :) done the same to my 06 :) But I dont think auto dim works.. if you dont add the cables to A-pillar. What I know on EU saab, if you didnt get them as standard you dont have the 7 and 8 cable drawn from fab.. as far as I know. Or did you have them already ??
I got my in Sweden so I just replace the harnes in both doors:) No patching with cables. :)
Funny you say that I just found this out yesterday! It took longer than expected to source the auto dim mirror glass and I found out the hard way yesterday the car isn't prewired for it like the auto dim rearview nirror. I'll have to take those 2 wires from that main door block in pins #7 and #8 on both doors and connect them into the rear view connector. Thanks for mentioning. More to come on finalizing!
Well Its a bit tricky if you want to do it the "right" way haha. I have a SC 06 Standard but upgraded :D
I hade to take one cable betvin the A Pillars and one to the central in the back and connected it to the one goes up in the roof. then back to the A-pillars :) Works I hade the time just ripped out all the seats .. I did it according to WIS :) Also added a green cable to I-bus . I installed seats from the 07 60th Anniversary Edition with memory and hade to fix the plus on passanger seat and add it to the central in the back.. Lots of work but nice :) Got the whole interior Seats, door panels and the small stuff for onle $120 :) (1200 SK) they fit right on :)
Great job
thank you very much
Have you tried to use an eSID? I use an eSID to make this work for both fold and unfold, with the key. Although my car has the version with 2 buttons for the mirrors. No Tech2 is needed.
Interesting! I have not tried an eSID nor do I know anyone that has one. Thank you for sharing
@@WeakestofWeeks As SAAB owner eSID is a must have. Get it, you will not regret it. It is a very good toy for your Saab(s). Visit www.esid.se.
Why didn’t you just swapped the 2 existing doors harnesses for the new ones?
I tried just swapping the door harnesses but tossed those video clips to shorten this video. The overseas door harnesses just dont function properly in the US cars. They plug in fine but internally are pinned out a little different. At first the window switches were functioning opposite. I would press down and they would go up and vice-versa. Once I repinned it I got the windows to function fine, but then couldn't get past theft lock errors. In the US the door lock actuators are a bit different than other countries. I won't go into too much detail but in sum, the harness caused way too many problems and required way to much work to function properly. It's so much easier to get any door harness optioned with power fold and only pull the wires and pigtails you need. Hope that helps.
isn't it easier just to get the harness from 03 93 sedan that has passenger tilt mirror feature? thats what I did
I'm sure it's easier to source and rework a power tilt harness into a power fold mirror set up. I originally sourced the power fold door harness specifically bc I thought I'd be able to just swap the entire thing. Unfortunately, with the harness being from an overseas car it provided to be a nightmare to get the overly complicated door lock actuators to work properly. Hence why I ended up taking only want I needed from the power fold harness and grafting to my original door harnesses.
And in EU we aren't have day running lights with automatic switch. I want to install this, but I have to buy this from other country.
I wonder what would be involved with making that work? Do you have to just swap out the headlight switch and activate with tech2?
@@WeakestofWeeks Yes, I think there is a module for automatic lights in this switch. I have a dusk sensor and a DRL fuse next to the battery.
Very neat! Well if you need help sourcing a headlight switch with the auto feature just let me know and I may be able to assist.
@@berol8629 I used a scan tool to turn mine off. I dislike DRL but I would assume you can just do the reverse to program them on.
On my Aero I have memory seats and i do have the button below the mirror adjustment switch but its to lower the passenger side mirror to see the curb. Is that part of the memory seats/mirrors or?
Yep that's for the memory seats and memory mirror functions.
Weakest of Weeks okay thanks!
I don't think the auto-dim will work because I think you also need to tap into wires inside the car and add them to the connector that you plugged the door harness into. 2010-11 9-3 Aero's in the US came with power folding mirror's, and the 2011 9-3X. All 200'3 SS are pre-wired for power folding is folks are seeking wire harnesses. I have tons of switches for power folding mirrors w/auto dipping.
That's correct the autodim is currently inop. I pinned a comment after posting this video mentioning the autodim portion not yet working just yet. The autodim glass didn't arrive until after posting so I was delayed in testing and found out the car is not prewired for the exterior mirrors like it was the rear view for autodim. At some point I plan to post a followup video finalizing that function. You mention some good info. At one point I recall hearing about some later model US bound 9-3s having the option and part #'s listed in EPC for power fold but was never able to confirm. I didn't even think about the 9-3x. Then again I've never seen one in the flesh.
@@WeakestofWeeks I went to do the same thing a couple years ago, add auto-dim after I had added power folding and then I noticed there is no metal showing in that connector that I added these wires to, they will connect to nothing. I stopped and never went back to it, looking forward to seeing what wire you need to tap into. Someone told me the compass autodim wire is what controls it and it can be reached in the same location you tapped into the speed sensor when you added the NAV. That would be good because I don't want to pull down the headliner
@@WeakestofWeeks when will you upload a video with working auto dim function?
Strange thing tho, that my doors are pre-wired for auto dim, but where is no cables in main connector that goes into cabin. So need to sort out how to pre-wire it to main mirror.
what wheels are on your car?
Andros Spec J wheels from Tirerack.com
That's not true. My 2010 93X has them.
