I'm 62 and also cry every time. The couplet that floors me: "When I'm drinking my Bonaparte Shandy, eating more than enough apple pies; will I glance at my screen and see real human beings, starve to death right in front of my eyes?" 14 years before 'Live Aid'!
So Good - Best Song Ever - Heard this song from my Dad, he was playin it one night downstairs I was about 12 years young and I had to go and listen to it on the stairs. Dad did not even know I was there. Cool Time. Sang it to him like about 10 years later and it blew his mind. I knew all the words, melody etc. He was rapped as I was for Him... Gilbert You Are Genius. What about the song "Too Much Attention" are you kidding me. Fantastic Song. Thank You Mr Sullivan for your Genius Music.
Gilbert..thanks for your songs. Changed my life for the better. Your melodies are great..Words are great. Voice is great..Thank you for making me feel better to this day
Fantastic. What a great all round musician that man is.That song is a masterpiece. Gilbert has such an individual style at the piano and his orchestral musicians were spot on. So good to see acoustic instruments being used.
Brilliant classic, from a true and proper singer-songwriter. Haunting earworm with meaningful lyrics. Still find myself whistling this beautiful melody 50 years on. Can't help singing along when it pops out of the radio here and there, or hear a cover. Tom Jones did a great job with it once apon a time. But (Ray) Mr O'sulivans actual name is the original and best. His other many many hits are also worth celebrating. He's up there with the best piano-men in the business. Either as a songsmith, lyricist or player, from Nat King Cole, and Barry White to Jules Holland, Manillow to Billy Joel... he's written some gems. Can't wait to see him live when things improve. Thanks Ray. Tom Keegan
Saw him walking down Renfield St in Glasgow, in the 80’s. Made my Mother’s Day when I got her a signed photo from him. Not my type of music, but she loved him...
I love this song so much....! I am now 65 years old and for me, this is still the most beautiful all-time-hit ever. Thanks for the wonderful music!
I am 69, and saw Gilbert in concert last year and cried all the way through it and also Alone again naturally ❤
What evokes emotionally responses in this song is not only the vocal melody and delivery but the string and wind arrangement - simply perfect.
One of the most beautiful song in the world ever!
I love this song! I play my guitar together while Gilbert is singing...I love to do this...
Such a clever musician, composer lyricist, singer songwriter, all in one.
My childhood hero . . . I’m 52 now and cry every time I listen to this x

After 50 years still perfect voice and marvelous performance
BRINGS BACK GREAT MEMORIES ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a great song. Then, now, and for all time.
Gilbert, you still touch my soul. Incredibly underrated singer songwriter.
I've just listened to your recording of this from 1971. Your voice is still as good as ever. Thank you for so much wonderful music.

Don't write songs like that today, great song that hasn't aged. Thanks for the memories Ray.
An amazing singer and song-writer. Brilliant performance. Thanks
Beautiful
He aged gracefully. He still has it.
A charismatic man.
What an absolute classic tune.....I've always loved this one....
Still my favorite artist, 2019. I am so glad I grew up listening to him ❤️ the world has changed much. But Gilbert and the smile he brings not at all.
BEAUTIFUL performance of one of the greatest songs of the 20th century.
All in one that's Gilbert o sullivan thanks for your wonderful music.
Had the pleasure of seeing him last week..still sounds wonderful, and what a lovely guy!😊
Still sounding great. Love this song.

To me there's the Beatles The Bee Gees Gilbert O'Sullivan!!!
Thank you, this is the real music, fantastic song
Fabulous! Such memories of playing that song again and again on the duke box till i ran out of money!
What a wonderful entertainer. Not only did he write the lyrics and compose the music, but he played the keyboards and sang the lead. Genius performer.
OMG,,,, So much inspirational memories of this beautiful hit
Gilbert is a musical Genius...
beautiful!!!
Great, super song, fantastic! Thanks
Brilliant!
Gilbert is the Best Song Writer
This song always makes me think of the 'old' traditional England.
Traditional Ireland. He is Irish from Waterford.
@@kencurran8853 Yes, this music can never remind one of traditional England. That certainly would be a definite 'faux pas.'
Fantastic. What a great all round musician that man is.That song is a masterpiece. Gilbert has such an individual style at the piano and his orchestral musicians were spot on. So good to see acoustic instruments being used.
Absolutely brilliant Ray. Ive been playing that song on the piano since the sheet music was released. I’ve always loved it
What a pleasure to hear this song again❤❤❤
Masterpiece then masterpiece now😎👌
Stunning song. Love it.
Very beautiful song for ever! Thank you!

Great song. Pure and real genius!
Wow .. he sings it so wonderfully still.. hope to get to see Gilbert when he comes home to Ireland again soon..

A troubadour par excellence,
Bring your concert to Chicago USA
"The Great Gilbert"
Great!!!!
FUCKING MASTERPIECE BROOKLYN LOVES YOU GILBERT
So Natural
I would love Gilbert to have an evening with The Royal Philarmonic
Still an amazing tune.. wish he wouldve had percussion for this show
Fantastic live performance
"This pleasure I get from winning a bet is to lose", that's the best part for me.
Would love to see ya
A musical genius
A very common sense memorie respect
Saw him walking down Renfield St in Glasgow, in the 80’s. Made my Mother’s Day when I got her a signed photo from him. Not my type of music, but she loved him...
Brilliant I would say. How would you think it up ?
Ich finde, er ist einer der größten, ohne Scheiss...
Classic xxx
Your invited to visit Lotties in Bucktown Chicago next year for a beer of your choice..
please come in Italy Gilbert
Not now
glbert never leaves leeds
💞
Quirky but remarkable.
realy sounds like John Lennon on this one probably loved this song
I read Lennon said this was the greatest song ever written
An absolute classic, and it's good to hear his voice is mostly the same. But what's up with the tone of the piano?
It’s not an acoustic piano. It’s either an electric piano. Or a synthesizer with an acoustic piano patch.
He could play Elton John under the table and Elton new it too !
He married a norwegian woman? Lived in my country for years I think. In my youth 50 years ago- Always enjoyed his records.
If Chopin was a singer too
We would have been given Gilbert
In which place is this concert?
Not Bad At All !!!
How the hell have we fallen from this to Taylor Swift????
😂
what year was this
Not many singers can still sing a song the recorded 50 years ago
I still don't know what bonaparte shandy is.
Word play on the theme "Napoleon brandy" (Napoleon Bonaparte)
Still a great song of course but this performance deserved a proper band with drums.
Full orchestra here . His latest tour just him and a guitar player. Feel ripped off
His sounded better when he was younger
Its a pity when the sound guy is sleeping on the job, the piano is over powering the voice by far, and drowning the rest of the instruments
Bad mixing, too much piano sound!
He looks like psycho’s mom, God bless him!
You idiot.
Moron
We were judging his fantastic rare talent and massive contribution to an entire era of music not the fact his hair has grown long. You great twit!
So very poignant.
❤
