When I had gestational diabetes (and checking my blood sugar level several times a day along with 4 shots of insulin a day) I can say with certainty that anything with high fructose corn syrup shot my blood sugar level up and it stayed up for much much longer than literally anything else I consumed. That was an eye opener for me. High fructose corn syrup is harder on your body and I think it’s careless to write it off like it’s basically like any other sugar. It’s not.
Right? I literally asked out loud, "why the f is she talking like that??" I considered clicking off the video just bc of her annoying monologue but I love Abbey too much to do that.
I love real maple syrup! For the longest time I wouldn't allow myself to eat pancakes because I was sucked into diet culture. It is thanks to you Abbey, your enlightened by intuitive eating series and sheet pan pancake recipe, that I have been able to finally have syrup again, guilt free and with absolute joy!!!
@@SJaber01 lol but that‘s literally the point of a bagel? like if you’re gonna scoop it out to get rid of carbs, maybe just buy thin sliced bagels or regular toast?
Abbey, your videos have helped me face my disordered eating head on. You always address food and eating habits in a kind (and sassy 😉) way that is so approachable. Thank you for being so awesome!!
Not to mention that a few cycles later, she actually GAVE another (white) girl a bigger gap so she could be marketed as more "high fashion" 🙄 I used to love ANTM growing up, but I never realized all the damaging rhetoric it was spouting until I got older (I'm 30 now, so I was watching every cycle from the very beginning!) It's still a bit of a guilty pleasure, like comfort food. It may not be the most healthy, but sometimes you need a bit of mindless comfort 😜
I think it’s so insane the amount of weight I put into her opinion as a young girl. I didn’t look up to many people but do feel like I idolized her a bit. It’s so for me to think about my insecurities of my smile before braces. I wish I was a bit older to develop my own opinion but do remember the moment where I could see through her bullshit.
I don't get that remark about the tooth gap...if you don't know who she is, look up the model Lauren Hutton. Also, I really liked when Madonna had her tooth gap.
Damn, as soon as Tyra mentioned fake maple syrup I knew Abbey was coming for her lol. I love how Abbey appears less and less concerned with appearing "proper" (dignified? I'm not sure the word I'm looking for) and is giving us more off the cuff reactions that make me laugh out loud so hard. Still very articulate and bringing the receipts but I feel like we're seeing more of her real personality now than we did before. Is that just me?
I remember seeing Tyra on her talk show years ago, and she described a diet she followed where she just had a couple of bites of each item. She said she would go to a buffet and get everything she wanted, but only a bite or two of each thing. I was still steeped in diet culture, and even I saw the absurdity in it. But of course, I tried it because sHe LoSt 20 PoUnDs! 🤦♀️
Why is everyone mad at Tyra and not mad at the modeling industry? She don’t make the rules! If at that time there were not models with the gaps and Tyra was just telling her what it is why is she the villain? Oh yeah, I forgot because she’s black! For those of you who forget ; Tyra was JUST the host of the show. There are producers, there arewriter's, there are whole teams of people that orchestrated the challenges etc.
Thank you!! Not one did she mention Janice Dickinson or the other judges who were just as toxic or even more toxic. I just didn't find Tyra as someone who body shamed. She did defend a lot of the models. Also she herself was body shamed multiple times.
I guess infused coffee is like the marinated meat section at the grocery store where they sell soon to be expired meat with strong marinades to cover up any smells, lol.
As a Canadian, I also don't understand why someone would actively avoid maple syrup under than the price. My favourite thanksgiving food is sweet potato that's pre cooked, and then fried or baked in a mix of maple syrup and margarine (I'm lactose intolerant so had to switch from butter), and sometimes we add a bit of coconut sugar or brown sugar (depending on if diabetic family is there or not, honestly they taste the same to me), and it's just so good! After my grandmother passed away, I took on making it every year, and that comment about syrup reminded me of it.
On flavored coffee: Back in the early/mid 2000’s Celestial Seasonings (the tea company) made an AMAZING line of flavored coffees. They infused the beans with flavor through some sort of steaming process and it was some of the most amazing flavored coffee I’ve ever had. And then they stopped making it. 😭 Husband and I were so sad!!!!! Edited to add: The Canadians are TRIGGERED. 😂 DO NOT MESS WITH THE MAPLE.
Instead of buying and try to be satisfied with these 'diet' ice cream, I decided to buy mini ice cream sandwiches, much easier to portion control that regular ice cream but still just as satisfying.
I hate substitutes ingredients too. It's better to eat the real deal and whole ingredients in moderate protons in my opinion. Full fat, full cream all the way.
Can you review Sophia Esperanza? She’s a vegan youtube vlogger. Sort of similar to Pickuplimes, but different. Would love to hear your take on her “what I eat in a day” videos!
I love adding a few dashes of cinnamon and tumeric to my french press before pouring water over the coffee! Tumeric sounds weird but adds an awesome earthiness!
@@niapatricia9405 it's the bomb! I usually add a little soy milk, too, but it's also tasty black. It's fun to play with spices and coffee - during the fall we like to add cloves or all spice!
I love to throw a few bits of whole spices in with the coffee sometimes! Star anise, cinnamon, cloves, a slice of ginger... But my favorite spiced coffee is the traditional Arabic coffee my old neighbors from Jordan would serve - strong, sweet, and full of cardamom pods. Yummmmm!
The part where she felt she had to highlight her weight gain and contrast it to her previous year swimsuit cover kind of reminds me of when people want to point out something before others can as a defense mechanism, and also she wants to show that she's ok with weight gain and is 'part' of the body postivity movement...but then she had to bring up the fact that she had a conventional swimsuit body.
Projection. She assumes you care as much as she does. Also isnt she retired? I feel like as you get older its healthy to let go and just explore everything you restricted yourself. But then again it was a rare display of simultaneous egocentric self-hatred. Life is a competition to her.
Her diet was my exact diet when I was at my heaviest weight. Which is fine! But I never had ANY energy and I was always craving more salt/more sugar. I felt sooo terrible when I ate like this.
I just add about half a teaspoon of gingerbread spice on top of the coffee grounds before I brew it (stovetop percolator). I started with more, but half a tsp is perfect to cut the bitterness and make it taste decent.
It could be the thickness. Quite a bunch of Americans don't appreciate the more watery consistency of maple syrup. Since childhood, we were engrained with the belief that syrup MUST be thick to be enjoyable. Also, price, always a factor
Idk I’m Canadian and my parents weren’t rich enough for real maple, so we always had the pancake syrup. I can afford it now but the pancake syrup is comforting to me.
I can't stand whatever character she's playing in that video WOW Also starting to get suspicious how true to life some of these diets are... who has enough money to eat all the delicious food, have it made professionally in a health conscious way or get a professional meal plan done with their fav foods, and chooses to hollow out a bagel or pass on a handful of chips lol But that's me 😂 I'm not good at diet anything, food is my hobby, my soul mate, and love language 😍 Also LOVE the Canadian spirit in this video.
Yesterday I felt like pasta but I added black beans, avocado, tomato, olive oil, fresh sausage and vinegar to the noodles so there was a nice pasta salad feel. I think Abbey would have been proud. 🤓

I just recently found your channel and really enjoy your content. Love how you don't tell people to survive on carrot or celery sticks but advocate for healthy balanced meals. As someone struggling with an eating disorder your advice will be invaluable.
When you explained the flavour hunt I really felt that....... I tell myself ah yes that rice cake will satisfy me. No? Ah yes those pea crisps will but Nope *5 snacks later* guess I'm having what I wanted when I started 😭 Also why does Tyra talk as if shes rehearsing for an audition?
Totally do this often too. Just to end up eating whatever it was i was trying to avoid by eating all the other junk! And then i've consumed ALL the things.
Another option is to just use half the bagel. That’s usually a better match for my appetite, and open-faced sandwiches have plenty of room for toppings and are way easier to eat. My favorite is an everything with my local fish market’s smoked salmon pate, topped with cucumber slices. It hits all the right spots: crunchy, smoky, and sticks with me until lunch. The other half doesn’t keep well, so I’ll either split it with my husband or use the other half in my lunch.
I used to really like Tyra, then kinda lost interest due to different controversies. But I like how enthusiastically she talks about food and seems to have a pretty healthy relationship with it and her body image (for a black supermodel nonetheless, who's had to deal with a lot of body-shaming herself when she became "too curvy for a model").
This session (as well as the comments) leaked too much from an overview of her food choices into a judgement of her as a person. I would prefer for you to stick to food. That’s why we are here. E.g. If you think she is passé, simply don’t cover her.

Aww I love Diana! She’s so sweet.
My New York heart cried when she hollowed out that bagel ❤🥯 😭
It’s all about the density of that chewy bite, knowwhatimean?
I had a bagel for breakfast (bacon egg and cheese) and it was so good. The whole bagel.
MY MONTREAL HEART WAS DESTROYED WHO TF HOLLOWS OUT A BAGEL?! 😭😭😭
😫😫
My heart and ears cried at her being so EXTRA / melodramatic
I love your accent Abbey! I was NOT ready for that pronunciation of bagel 😂
I really needed to not be the only one questioning her "BAG - elle" over the world's "bae-gel" Also Montreal sesame seed bagels win over all others. I said what I said 🤷🏿♀️🥯
Canadian pronounciation ig lmaooo
I am Canadian and you don’t pronounce bagel the way Abby does.
Not even from Canada, and this is how I say bagel. I get lots of shit for it haha.
😂🇨🇦
When I had gestational diabetes (and checking my blood sugar level several times a day along with 4 shots of insulin a day) I can say with certainty that anything with high fructose corn syrup shot my blood sugar level up and it stayed up for much much longer than literally anything else I consumed. That was an eye opener for me. High fructose corn syrup is harder on your body and I think it’s careless to write it off like it’s basically like any other sugar. It’s not.
What kind of playwright monologue was she going for? How did you make it through her whole video, Abbey? Lol
I was so happy when she was fast forwarding Tyra's clips😅
Hahaha same
That's so wonderful!
Where can we find the sheet pan pancake recipe? I love pancakes so much but I can never seem to cook them right on my stove top!
Thank you for sharing! I'm so glad ❤️
God, being around Tyra must just be exhausting.
I'm so confused, what kinda monster hollows out a bagel. Just eat a spoonful of cream cheese if you're going to do this honestly
More room to put more cream cheese or other things in it so that its not just carbs
@@SJaber01 lol but that‘s literally the point of a bagel? like if you’re gonna scoop it out to get rid of carbs, maybe just buy thin sliced bagels or regular toast?
Did she say she hollowed it out? Maybe I missed that part?
@@SJaber01 but then just eat cream cheese with a spoon? You're wasting the bagel surely?
@@ccap3211 Yeah it's in the thumbnail as well.
Abbey, your videos have helped me face my disordered eating head on. You always address food and eating habits in a kind (and sassy 😉) way that is so approachable. Thank you for being so awesome!!
I'm so glad they're helpful!
I literally have a 5 liter / 1 gallon jug of maple syrup in my fridge. Of course I am Canadian. It’s not cheap, but soooooo worth it.
I love it too!
Lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin- only pure maple syrup. I live in Texas now- pay through the nose for the real maple syrup- but so worth it!
As a girl with a Gap I remember that remark she said to Danielle making me feel so insecure at that time. Smh
It's crazy. Mean while, in my tribe, a woman born with a tooth gap is classed as the most attractive.
Not to mention that a few cycles later, she actually GAVE another (white) girl a bigger gap so she could be marketed as more "high fashion" 🙄
I used to love ANTM growing up, but I never realized all the damaging rhetoric it was spouting until I got older (I'm 30 now, so I was watching every cycle from the very beginning!) It's still a bit of a guilty pleasure, like comfort food.
@@RootsInWisdom same!
I don't get that remark about the tooth gap...if you don't know who she is, look up the model Lauren Hutton. Also, I really liked when Madonna had her tooth gap.
You know you've got more money than sense when you're paying for a bag of bagels only to hollow them out 😂
Damn, as soon as Tyra mentioned fake maple syrup I knew Abbey was coming for her lol.
"Audtion tape...for CATS"😂 The shade hahahaha
😂
@@latonyanewsome0 💯
The weird thing was at the time of ANTM, these problematic comments and behaviours were completely normalized. Now they would get you cancelled.
Abbey you look so good in this video. Also the Dwight clip was perfect
Thank you!
If you do another one of these would you consider a celebrity chef like, Andrew Zimmern, Andrew Rea, or Joshua Weissman?
Or Carla Hall!
I'll put these on the list!
@@AbbeysKitchen Thank you, I appreciate it.
Andrew Zimmern
I watch them all! Lmao the holy trinity
I guess infused coffee is like the marinated meat section at the grocery store where they sell soon to be expired meat with strong marinades to cover up any smells, lol.
True!
🤢🤮
A reminder that ANTM is not the only reason to hate Tyra - she also had an MLM (read: pyramid scheme but add makeup)
I didnt realize how early i was until i read the comments. 😂
😂
Instead of buying and try to be satisfied with these 'diet' ice cream, I decided to buy mini ice cream sandwiches, much easier to portion control that regular ice cream but still just as satisfying.
I'm glad that works for you!
On the list!
I love adding a few dashes of cinnamon and tumeric to my french press before pouring water over the coffee! Tumeric sounds weird but adds an awesome earthiness!
I get that. 👍
We sell turmeric lattes at one of the cafe's I work at, it seems to be a thing, good job on finding something that works for you.
Interesting 🤔 I’m gonna try this girl
Oh no!
Damn Abbey! I swear you are popping these videos out so fast, it's amazing. So proud q///q
Thank you!
I just add about half a teaspoon of gingerbread spice on top of the coffee grounds before I brew it (stovetop percolator). I started with more, but half a tsp is perfect to cut the bitterness and make it taste decent.
That sounds great!
This is clever, I tried this with a cardomom pod because my dentist told me to try it and it's amazing also
How can someone prefer fake syrup?! I'm gonna need to sit down for a minute.
It could be the thickness. Quite a bunch of Americans don't appreciate the more watery consistency of maple syrup. Since childhood, we were engrained with the belief that syrup MUST be thick to be enjoyable. Also, price, always a factor
I know right!
My husband unfortunately 🤮 he hates the taste of maple. 😓
@@thriftynative maybe let him eat what he wants then? Of all people, his spouse should be able to do that.
Idk I’m Canadian and my parents weren’t rich enough for real maple, so we always had the pancake syrup. I can afford it now but the pancake syrup is comforting to me.
"I'm just gonna take a sip of my coffee flavored coffee..." 💀
As a person also named Tyra, I too am side eyeing Tyra Banks.
Would love to see you review the British show, "Secret Eaters!"
I can't stand whatever character she's playing in that video WOW
Also starting to get suspicious how true to life some of these diets are... who has enough money to eat all the delicious food, have it made professionally in a health conscious way or get a professional meal plan done with their fav foods, and chooses to hollow out a bagel or pass on a handful of chips lol But that's me 😂 I'm not good at diet anything, food is my hobby, my soul mate, and love language 😍
Also LOVE the Canadian spirit in this video.
🇨🇦
Yesterday I felt like pasta but I added black beans, avocado, tomato, olive oil, fresh sausage and vinegar to the noodles so there was a nice pasta salad feel. I think Abbey would have been proud. 🤓
Sounds amazing!
I feel you girl as a fellow Canadian! You did right by our nation with that syrup segment! Lol!! Seriously though can I just express how much I appreciate you bleeping out your swear words! I love watching your videos and often my kids are around so I super appreciate that! It’s the little things! Obviously I also appreciate everything I learn from these videos too haha!!
Totally! And I'm glad that's helpful 😂
"fake maple syrup. Not the fancy Canadian..."
Why would you go for fake syrup
Just take corn syrup then
The fenugreek flavoring obviously
My favourite is that you use the Scott pilgrim vs the world mouth swearing cover thing, AND you’re Canadian! Freaking amazing
Fellow Canadian here!! “Not that fancy Canadian stuff” killed me. If I ever liked Tyra in the past. That is now in the past.
I just recently found your channel and really enjoy your content. Love how you don't tell people to survive on carrot or celery sticks but advocate for healthy balanced meals. As someone struggling with an eating disorder your advice will be invaluable.
This might be your most Canadian video yet. As a fellow Canadian, I love itttt
😊❤️
I love how you use The Office for your clips! So funny. I still just adore that show.
When you explained the flavour hunt I really felt that....... I tell myself ah yes that rice cake will satisfy me. No? Ah yes those pea crisps will but Nope *5 snacks later* guess I'm having what I wanted when I started 😭
Also why does Tyra talk as if shes rehearsing for an audition?
Totally!
Didn’t know someone eating a bagel was something to dissect
I’m cryinggggg! “BAG-el” 😂😂😂😂
I've never been so early! It's funny because I've been waiting for this review since you started commenting on Harper's Bazaar's videos!
I hope you enjoyed it!
Your pink cup unlocked a fisher price tea cup memory for me (90s kid here) and now I want it or an adult version of the classic
Ok - your description here of the flavour hunt here finally clicked in my brain - that was good 🙌🏻
I'm glad that was helpful!
This session (as well as the comments) leaked too much from an overview of her food choices into a judgement of her as a person. I would prefer for you to stick to food. That’s why we are here. E.g. If you think she is passé, simply don’t cover her.
Omg, totally agree.
Hi Abbey! Love your content so much, I've been having an Abbey marathon today and am loving life! I see there's a new Harper's Bazaar video with Nadiya Hussain. Would love to see you review her - she is super sweet and her love for food is contagious.
I'll have a look at that!
I do actually love to warm my bagel in the microwave with cream cheese, it makes it just a little softer 😍
They have Bagel Thins in 2021. You do not need to hollow out a bagel if that what you want.
A couple things: wow I forgot how extra Tyra is. I used to love ANTM in its early days but yes it was problematic. Next- she didn’t really explain why she chooses the fake syrup. I’m not sure why anyone voluntarily does this so it would be interesting to find out why.
Because it carmelizes easier! I actually knew the answer to this :) Actual maple syrup won't become that sugary crispness that fake syrup does.
Mainly because it's lower in calories compared to the real thing.
@@kristiemao4275 i don't think that's it? I know some people prefer the taste u do u yknow
She likely just prefers the taste of it. Many people grow up with fake maple syrup.
I am French. I had never seen or heard Tyra before and I am really perplexed by the way she speaks. Maybe instead of a "what a I eat in a day" video, she should do a "what pot I smoke in a day" video.
Please please please caption your videos for those of us who are hearing impaired.

No. I'm sorry, if there is a good reason to hollow out a bagel, which there's not, it would be to fit more cream cheese in it. ☺️
I say bagel like ‘bay-gal’
@Rachel Forshee Depends where in Canada you are..she is Ontario so says it like Beg-al. Here on the west coast we say Bay-gul.
😂👍
I was so distracted by her pronunciation, I didn’t know Canadians pronounced it like that 😅

I haven't watched Caitlin (From My Bowl) for a while. She comes off as oil-phobic and just a bit too of an unrealistic vegan.
@@lambulance she's definitely not oil phobic any more. Hasn't been for at least a year. While her stuff might still be on the "too healthy" side for some, I think she's gotten much more accessible, with the exception of some of the gluten free stuff she uses. Luckily it's pretty easy to re-gluten her recipes.
If vanilla could be flavored vanilla it would be Caitlin shoemaker lol
my problem with hfcs is that it just isn't that sweet, so 2 tablespoons of sugar becomes 1 cup of corn syrup in recipes.
abbey's bag-gills and tyra's fake syrup! this is a tempestuous canadian conundrum in one video 😭
😂😂
12:55 i like fake syrup way better because it’s thicker and has a deeper flavor whereas real maple syrup is thinner and has a sharp sweetness to it
