I just love the 8 string. The rosewood accents those lower notes just so perfectly. I hope to own one of those in the near future
I have one since a few months and its one of the purchases Ive made in years, it sounds very full, rich, but not in the over the top way a 12 string does and it actually sort of sounds like two guitars in one. Its a fantastic design :)
@@ErwinvanAsperen I have mine (8 string version) for one year now, I pick it up almost every day. So much fun!!!
@@michaelhuebner2413 right? Nothing like it really :)
Great cover guys!
Thanks for the review..those sound samples sound great !
Thanks for watching!
Hey guys!! I'm a 12 stringer by heart, and have used my Guild F512 at every gig in 16 of my 27 years of professional performing. Then I bought a Taylor 8-string baritone about 5 years ago. That got me hooked on the lower keys.
Like Roger McGuinn calling his Martin 7-string his "Swiss Army knife guitar", because you get the chime of a 12-string, but the ease of playing a 6-string, that's how I refer to my Taylor 8, and now my Guild BT-258. Both give me the bass range, 12-string chime, and 6-string fingerstyle ease. I'm in favor of my Guild 8 over the Taylor 8 for now because A) I trust Guild guitars with their quality, and B) the Fishman pickup blows away the L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup in the Taylor, especially with those 2 octave strings. They just sing in the Guild 8, both strummed and fingerpicked, but kind of get buried in the Taylor. I'll be switching to a Fishman Matrix for the Taylor 8 and my Guild 12 soon.
On a side note, I have the Taylor 12 fret 12-string (model #??), which I now use for slide guitar when playing the Blues. I've got it down in the baritone range in Open E and Open B, with D'addario heavy bottom/medium top strings. It still has the Taylor Expression 2 system, which I thought I'd hate, but it actually has sounded very good for what I use it for.
Def a thumbs up to Guild for their new baritone acoustics!! 👍✌
Thanks for watching and commenting! Were glad you liked the video and guild acoustics, we are fans of them as well!
Hey Sean…. I like your Martin 7 string analogy… I really don’t like the wide nut and “lost” bass of a 12 string. My standard tuning is D to D… thinking of getting the Guild 8 string, tune it D to D,(medium gauge strings), with double octaves on the D and G strings. Get a lot of chime, keep the bass, and get a 1.75” nut… if it doesn’t work right, I’ve still got an inexpensive baritone.
@@jed1166 Hey man! So the only thing is that the Guild 8 is built to actual baritone specs. It's a 27 inch neck, but I don't know the nut width. I believe you'll find that you'll get used to the B to b tuning fairly quickly. If not, you can put a capo on the 3rd fret for D to d.
@@seanfullertonmusic9885 hi! Guild BT258 nut width is 1.75”…. Also, I have checked with two string tension calculators, and D to D with medium strings on the 27” scale should be fine… less tension than the same strings E to E on a 25.5” scale. Baritone strings are 70-16, and tuned B to B, have virtually the same pull as the medium gauge 56-13s will have D to D. Mediums tuned E to E, on a 25.5” scale pull 180 lbs. Tuned D to D on a 27” scale pull 158 lbs, noticeably less. Obviously couldn’t use Baritone strings tuned D to D, but mediums should be no problem. Thanks for the heads up!
@@jed1166 That will work. You could maybe try the D'addario Heavy/Medium set that I use on my Taylor 12. It comes as a 12 string set, but if you don't mind removing the octave E and A, and the unison B and e (saving those as extras down the road), you have the required strings to make it an 8 string.
Great demo… I have the Taylor 326e 8-string which is great but these are such a great value. I’m thinking about picking up the Guild 6. The baritones have reinvigorated my playing.
I think Taylor diaxontinued baritones
me too ..I have a baritone reverend for my vocal baritone
How do they compare to the Alvarez baritone
Love my Guild 8 string baritone. So much fun to play.
I would like to tune mine to C# to bring the tone up a bit and shorten the scale length.
Would Heavy Gauge strings be a safe fit if the baritone is tuned to C#?
You could always use a capo.
@@munkandbear2818 update. My 8 string baritone now lives in D to D tuning with medium gauge strings. This has been a great set up for me and my vocals. PS, I do use a capo with the baritone a lot.
what is your tuning on that mesmerizing baritone guitar pls?... great playing
Hey Kantri. :) Baritones are typically B-E-A-D-F#-b
John could make a cardboard box sound good but the guild 8 string reminds me of a Leo Kottke sound. I don't think he used a baritone but he liked to detune the lower strings much of the time.
Thanks for watching😄
8string os the best!
wow! I wanted listen the sounds but it is impossible! how many words did you tell?!
Having a baritone guitar makes it easy to perform with a female vocalist who needs to drop a lot of songs down 3-5 steps
I just got my Guild 8 string Baritone, sorry to say it failed. It could not tune to a B tuning. And the bottom e string had issue's When the sales representative tried to change the 3 high string it snapped. It shouldn't have..sorry to say it did no meet my high expectations. You lose some and sometimes you win
some.
After 14 minutes of patience with this video I gave up. These two guys fail to engage me. With lot of irrelevant joking when the title promises an informative review of baritone guitars. Here is a lost opportunity to demonstrate what difference they offer the potential purchaser compared with the ubiquitous 6-string standard jumbo. It is a shame that the opportunity is overtaken by irritating, irrelevant dialogue.
Get to the point guys!
