Dear Mr Smith, you know what to do with a whole lotta real estate! That baby reminds me of my old Silvertone 618. I hope you get the buzz I did from a low-tuned Jumbo. You play excellent Blues.

Just bought one of these for my worship sets. Can’t wait to get it and get stuck in. 👍

@@calixto_azevedo I reckon it would. I’m a one man band and to be honest have been favouring using the baritone over my standard tuned guitar. My only tip - get the John Pearse Baritone strings the light gauge ones, they transform the playability and the tone is less boomy. Have fun anyway 👍

I love the various drop tunings you can tune to besides the standard BEADF#B...drop AEADF#B-, or AEADEA, or GDADEA, or ADGCEA...

I bet a big bodied baritone could make the floor shake in ADADf#D (basically down four steps from DGDGBD / Taro Patch), given the right strings.

Looking at changing the strings on mine, there’s not too many sets out there, the John Pearse look interesting as they do a lighter set 15 - 68. I think the guitar comes with the D’addario 16 - 70. I know string choice is all personal preference though.

I know, I’m in danger of spamming the comments section…. However…. I’ve just changed the strings from the ones that it came with to the John Pearse Baritone Light set and it’s transformed the sound. Any hint of muddiness or that occasional “boominess” when strummed has gone, it sounds a lot more balanced to my ears. Also gone is that slight fret buzz that I’d occasionally get. Just thought I’d update and share. I know you were maybe thinking about changing the strings 😉

Hi, I tested several string sets on this guitar. As you said the D'Addario Baritones (Phosphor Bronze) can sound a bit muddy in some situations. I did like the John Pearse as well but found the Elixir 11306 Nanoweb Baritone Acoustic 016-070 which is an 80/20 Bronze set sound a bit brighter as well with more clarity in the low end.

I bought one and it was a lemon. Really harsh overtones on strumming chords unless I palm muted. And I had to use a 1mm dunlop nylon pick, or it just sounded awful. It sounds fantastic when you find the sweet spot, but that is a very narrow choice. My other Alvarez guitars have been outstanding, so this one is the exception and not the rule. I'm out the return shipping to Musician's Friend, but I'll order my next one from GC because of their free return policy. It would be nice to go to a music store and play one before buying it, but there are none around in stock.

That's unlucky, I've played a few and they've all been pretty good.

That can always happen, I was lucky enough to play mine in the shop and I loved the sound. I noticed a tiny gap under one of the bridge 'wings' but the sound was so good I bought it anyway and just took it straight to my luthier to give it a once over. You just never know if you will find that same sound again!

The most striking aspect of this video is your facial expressions while you play. Looks like you’re getting a colonoscopy without sedation !!!
