What upppppppp! As per usual, I shall be replying to as many comments as possible! 😃
Here's the thing about this series... SOME of it will get suppressed. Its just gonna happen.
I don't know if yt won't allow the videos... or if it'll just block them from your feed. But if you want to make sure you don't miss any video, best thing you can do is go here: stevenbridges.ck.page/
If you are remotely interested in learning to count cards, please use my description link. I get a commission when you use it and I basically reinvest all that money into making more of these videos!

I subscribed! :) I know I outed myself to you the other day, but please keep calling me xylene here on YT, Steven. Lol
I'd love to learn how to count cards (and would love even more to win lots of $$) but I don't have starter money to play with. I was hoping you'd ask that lady how one goes about getting back rolled and how the player gets paid (salary, or % of winnings, etc). Looking forward the each episode! Laughed at the Thank You! after you performed for them in this video. It's been a while since I last heard you do that. X)

On the ethics question as a dealer I think it's hilarious when someone is counting cards. The casino lets so much shady stuff happen that a thorn in their side is not as much as they deserve. Being smart is not unethical.
I currently deal blackjack and baccarat.
PS: Hope you bankroll every casino. Make that money until you're banned from every casino in the world!

Great episode Steven! So excited to see where this leads you. I completely agree with the guy in the video that your performance, busking, magic skills must give you an advantage. Even if that advantage is the ability to be patient learning and practising complex things and being adaptable to unplanned events.

    • @stevenbridges
      @stevenbridges  2 роки тому +3

You hit the nail on to head! The advantage lies not in the magician skills, but in having gone through a process of learning something difficult before.

I'm already impressed by this series and it's only the first episode, the interview with the dealer turned card counter really highlighted the dirty tactics the casino's use to keep you spending and losing money. reminds me of the comedian joe lycet taking on a casino in london on his show joe lycetts got your back.
it also reminded me of the derren brown special where he took the contents of a random person's bank account and used his illusion skills to try and win a bet at a casino with that money

I know this video was filmed in 2018, but pro tip for the future: invest in a 3-stop or even 6-stop neutral density filter. They're primarily used for photography to facilitate long exposures during the day when there's a ton of light (for movemnet in clouds, water, etc) but they have the dual purpose of cutting down light transmission for video, so when you're filming in a ton of sunlight like you were in Vegas, you can screw an ND filter on and it will block light from hitting your camera's sensor, i.e. the amout of light you're filming in won't translate to the video.
Source: I'm a professional photographer and use them for a bunch of things aside from long exposure photography. They're also great for staying at snyc speed when using flash in daylight

@@stevenbridges No problem, glad I could help! The only thing you need to make sure of is that you're buying the correct size filter for your lens.
The size you need will be marked on the lens somewhere, either around the front glass or somewhere on the housing closer to the mount, depending on the brand and lens.
Walk into any camera shop and they'll tell you what filter thread size you need. I'd probably start with a 3-stop ND filter, that should be fine

Another key factor that has changed since the 90's, is the rise of computer software to analyze a player's skill level. Ian Andersen's cover strategy would not stand up to close computer scrutiny, unless he was playing badly on purpose (at first) and then playing skillfully once he knew their guard was down.

Computers would likely be an problem with a published cover strategy is published too as that means that you will be exhibiting some kind of pattern in your play that crops up in other players too. This is not good against systems like machine learning algorithms as it can be used to train those systems to identify and categorise those players. In the general playing population errors and mistakes are likely to be somewhat random not so if you are using some strategy to determine when to run a cover play, that creates a pattern in the noise and that is what ML is good at finding. The more data the ML has to train on with a similar pattern present the better it can become at spotting it and the more quickly it will converge to high confidence on seeing new data too.

      Great question!
Originally it was going to be a series of 5 minutes episodes. Think ‘budget Casey niestat learns to count cards’.
So this video was edited not tooooo long after filming but it was originally several videos.
Since then realised it made more sense to be a bit more long form so I re-edited.
Then I did some more re-edits and cut all the ‘fun Vegas times’.
So yeah it’s gone through many edits haha.
I’ve left room to edit a bit as I go. A lot of videos are fully edited, some aren’t edited at all

So glad to have find your youtube chanel :D
Quick question and probably a simple one for you : When the count is super high you are suppose to make your bets bigger right ? But isn't the house more likely to have a better hand too ?

    • @darealest2exist260
      @darealest2exist260 Рік тому +1

Yup. Don’t question it, that’s the best advice I have. You bet $100 on +5, the dealer gets blackjack, you still only lose $100.

So, I just randomly discovered your channel and I'm thinking... I like his haircut. I wonder if that would look good on me? Then I start paying more attention to the video instead of just waiting to get to the card counting. No fooling, that's my beard style too. That was when I looked down and noticed that I'm wearing the same polo, color and everything. Looks like I need a haircut. I love your approach and editing style. These videos are quality. Thank you!

It’s honestly better for card counters that they can back you off simply because if they couldn’t they would only use csm or just not offer blackjack

Awesome first episode! I love the format and I especially liked the interviews. I studied and played some poker so the behind the scenes insights of pros and ex-pros are extremely interesting to me.
Are you open for some feedback?
I believe you could improve your interviewing skills. I am particularly talking about the interview with the girl ex-dealer, now card counter. There were a lot of moments when you spoke quite fast and unintelligible, or when you guys spoke at the same time, which made it impossible for me to understand her reply, or your question. As a fellow filmmaker, I learnt it is a good idea to paraphrase what interviewee said before moving on because it helps the viewer to catch up, and I am sure there are other cool interview techniques such as this one!
I do not know how sensible that was, since I am not sure if all of your episodes are already edited, and are just waiting to be published, or you are still able to make some editing changes, but hopefully the comment was helpful!

Thank you! Glad you liked it! Ah yeah lots of parallels with poker.
Thanks for the feedback regarding interviewing. That is useful! Definitely will be tricky to implement currently but next time I'm filming an interview I'll try my best to bear this in mind. 😃

i was once at a casino and had no idea how card counting works but I realized if there is a lot of cards that are smaller in value showing up more often then i have a greater chance of winning. needless to say, i was increasing my bets everytime i saw this happen and got kicked out for card counting. I did win over 1000 with only 200 to start to play with. bullshit treatments from casinos tbh

Even with a .5 to 1% edge in your favor the swing are ginormous! You have play lower than 5% ROR of your BR to stay alive and thrive!

People only think card counting is immoral because it threatens the status quo, if only lightly. Casinos are supposed to steal your money, not the other way around. I don't care to protect the status quo, it really doesn't need any more protection than it already has.
