Well hot damn this is possibly the nicest comments section I've ever seen! Thanks for having me NRB! Had a blast!
Which one are you again??
I'm sorry you're gonna have to retire mate x
@@DanLayton He's Sully's impulse control coach. Hell of a workhorse, took 3 days of non stop coaching to get Sully to not reflexively all in on every hand.
pls join them in playing a way sillier game 🙏
Glad you were on. This was a very fun episode.
This series better end with Magnus Carlsen playing all the kings horses or so help me god
Or get a professional gymnast to play twister with handcuffs.

Too many jokes to be made if Sullivan plays a game with horses in the title
"He's cake counting!"
CARB COUNTING WAS RIGHT THERE GUYS
Why not calorie counting?
@@ryapowa Because Carb is one letter off from card.
@@eoinfitzsimons fair enough
Besides, Cake-Counting is one of Lex Luthor's hobbies. And he often counts up to forty. Which is as many as four tens. The very amount that Luthor stole...
And that's terrible...
For his own sake I appreciate that they asked Steephen his role but _immediately_ distracted from the actual answer, which was _never given_
Casinos were heavy breathing and taking notes
He has talked about roles that he has taken on his channel, it more interesting then you might expect
he's said that he prefers being a scouting player who keeps track of count and signals the big player in. I think his reasons were the mental stress of being the big player, losing a lot of money even when you did everything right is crushing, as well as the amount of heat being a person who bets high brings
@@neonoir__also you have to play the role and be convincing so you don’t get heat
@@neonoir__ But the scouting player has to sit infront of someone that's staring at their face for hours. That scout has to keep running counts in their head without showing the fact they're doing math in their heads on their face. And during all that the scout has to give the signals without surveillance detecting the fact they're giving signals. They have to resist the urge to turn to look at their teammates to check if they even saw the signal. The scout has the most face time with casino staff. Definitely not an easy role.
My immediate thought after Steven guessed that he would get a 4 and then did was "wow he would be great at Guess the Card" 😂
if he gets to choose the deck he could win every time
I absolutely was rooting for Steven
I love Steven's chemistry with the NRB crew
It helps that he’s already friends with Dan and all the NRB crew get along so well with Dan.
Yes he fits in so well! Now that he’s unemployed maybe he can join up.
@@damhnaitcockburn2970Not just friends, me and Dan used to live together! 😃
@@stevenbridges Oh my god, they were room mates

We need Steven to play Guess the Card with Teri
That's brilliant!!
I don't really think that's fair, whe would wipe the floor with him
Are you trying to destroy the man?
Except card counting isn’t actually about memorizing what cards of been played, it’s just an ongoing addition/subtraction count
@@Alyssa684 Within Blackjack, yes. But within a "true" game of poker (like holdem) card counting is basically memorization.
I’m excited to see Dan being a more recurring guest on NRB and Parts Funknown, he’s got such great chemistry with the rest of the cast already!
The fact Dan seems to know every other UA-camr and brings them all along definitely helps, too
Tbh I was on the fence on watching this video, but I saw Dan and couldn't resist, he works so well with everyone X3
@@GG-dt5hh i honestly think the UK youtube community is quite tight-knit overall. you could probably choose any two random British youtube creators and connect them via a single other person.
Dan is 🔥 such a funny and spicy addition to the groups he is in 😆
@@hannah2729 So... Tom Scott on NRB soon?
This is such a good format, I really wanna see more games where "The Beau-Zos" play against experts.
@@Lastielion I would love to se the barely concealed spite of Tom, Dom and Sully.
I mean, you can't "win" in D&D, but some sort of Battle Royale D&D one-shot with Tom, Laurie, and maybe Pete Quinell if he's still around; vs pro D&D'ers from Critical Role, Dimension 20, Children of Erte, etc. Even if it needs to be partially Zoom-ified (though if they could get everyone in London together, that would be amazing of course!).... it would be mind-blowing!
@@IceMetalPunk Mark Hulmes maybe?
Beauzeaus*
Steven Bridges and NRB. Didn’t know such a collab would ever exist. Love to see it 😍
I’m with you, this is the happiest I’ve been in a while.
What on earth???? I never imagined these worlds would collide!!!!
Man you started with a great 'expert' for this series, Steven managed to be both insightful with explaining things but also understood the assignment and played off the NRB team really well. Can't wait for more Bozo chaos!
I just wish there was more magic
I love how half the reactions are because of actual card counting and the other half are Stephen just making a guess or a joke and pure luck it's correct
Yes, I think he played his part well, explaining the card counting theory, but then just kind of playing for more fun in his actual decisions.
'cause You obviously can't demonstrate the actual probability in 1 hour playing like 20 hands per hour.
@@EnderSword also, people are alot less conservative when its not their real money on the line. To start with steven was beting smart, leading to smaller, but consistent wins. Where as Sully was betting like he knew the money meant nothing.
I play Holdem not Blackjack, and i'm actually pretty good, but i find playing for "fun' with fake money harder in a way, because people don't play the same with nothing on the line.
Having worked in casinos for the past four years, you guys perfectly showed the difference between people that understand etiquette and those learning with no care whatsoever, especially when Sullivan started with almost half his funds in one go and Dan doubled down by putting his bet on top of his original bet and not next to it on the first hand. Absolute perfection, looking forward to more guys
I was much more concerned with the dealer paying multi-color bets in one stack. Seeing that spiked my blood pressure
@@tmtmtlsml or just tossing the chips at 'em. Ahh, the joys of home games
A lot of cringe also no actual shoe just holding cards. Revealing the burn card is a big no no especially for suspected card counters
@MajinTV True, but for the purposes of showcasing counting cards it is necessary. If anything it shows people that go to a casino why showing the burn card, especially on double deck (a table using just two decks), is shut down immediately. I should say at least in the casinos I've worked at that's the rule. And unless they plan on playing blackjack again in studio, why invest in a shoe? They do have a discard tray though, which did surprise me to see so perhaps they had access and just decided against it
@@jeremiahcurtis3067 it’s really just one more card of pen. basically makes no difference on six deck and marginal difference on double deck. it’s not needed although it is a bit helpful to know the card
(Talking about the complications of keeping the card count)
Dan: “I’m just trying to remember which colour is what, let alone the rest...”
Steven: “They’re written on the chips, Dan!”
Dan: “Oh YEEEAH!”
I’m dying!
The least expected crossover in human history, but I absolutely love it
I think I have died, but this was hilarious! Also the classic cake counting dilemma, comparing how many cakes you have made to how many cakes Daniel J Layton has made to how many cakes Holly Musgrave will make.
Welcome to another episode of Baking with Layton
Adam's outfit has that perfect casino pitboss style look. It's just *chef's kiss*
Steven getting that "it's a picture" and "well now I'll get like a four" was honestly fantastic!
It's important to note why Steven is banned from every casino in the UK - he's good at calculating the odds in a game that's all about the odds. Or in other words, the casinos only let you play if you're bad at playing. Fools and their money are soon parted.
Jingles?????
I’m all for this new series, this would be definitely very interesting.
Details, please. I only know Daniel from here and I don't know Stephen at all, thanks
"Behold our Bozos" leading up to everyone in shirts and sunglasses was wonderful.
I love this type of "expert vs newbie" shows and to see some of my favorite people do it is so fun!
Beauzos**
@@red5_skywalker In my defense, I did write that comment before Holly came up with the Beau-Zos but yes, correct. XD
I'd say, this is probably one of the best videos you've ever made. Super informative while also being batshit insane. We definitely need more steve coz he seems super cool.
I really hope the Beau-Zos becomes the default name for the NRB team in these.
Even when Sully isn't on the team? haha
@@HellwingX1 lol I feel like it should be the name for Dan Holly and Sully.
The way Brooke and Laurie are Team Rocket and Adam and Sully are Team Boyfriends.
49:46 Stephen looks like he knew exactly what was going to happen and that's why he told Sully to put the card face down. His smile is like the one you make when you're watching, with someone else, a movie that you've already seen, the exciting part is coming and you want to see their reaction xD
"You know it's gonna be a 4 right?" - *shows a 4, everyone goes nuts* ahh card counting, the magic of the blackjack world. I love it. New fan in me! :D
I have been watching Steven Bridges since his channel was about doing magic/street magic. I have legit been watching him since 2015. The fact that you brought him in for NRB is mind blowing and something I never knew I needed.
Dude, thank you! :D
@@stevenbridges no, thank your for entertaining me for so long :)
If you like Steven playing games, he did a tournament-esk thing with tom scott a while ago that i recommend you watch (btw same, im an old Steven fan too, lol)
Considering what happened last time I saw Daniel J Layton and Stephen Bridges play board games, I can't wait to see how this turns out! Great idea for the series and keep 'em coming. Much love everyone at the NRB team.
I need to see that video, please tell me where to find it 🙏
THATS WHERE I RECOGNISE HIM FROM, THANK YOU!
@@ellie.ivanova i believe it was on the “some lovely board games” series(?)
@@pan-opticon thank you
that was my favourite series
Steven seems like a lovely bloke. I am baffled by how Dan Layton seems to know literally everyone, but I'm here for it.
All London-based UA-camrs I reckon
21:00 the greatest moment in NRB Versus history
Best blackjack session I've ever seen. Comedy gold. Let's see Steven against other NRB players.
I hope your other experts have the same energy as this. This was great.
I hope all the experts they've selected fit with the vibe as well as this first one did
I've been playing blackjack since birth
I don’t know if this would be possible, but my immediate instinct is that a collab with Tom Scott for this would be fantastic. I have no idea what the game would be, but I want to see it happen
I seem to recall in his match against Tomska he mentioned he was once a champion at Boggle?
that one game where they make up Wikipedia entries
he was also on Only Connect which is a quiz show, it’s not a board game but it could be fun
Omg I'd love that
They should play bar billiards!
"Why?!"
Yeah this is going to be a fun ride
E: This video WAS a fun ride. Absolutely wild, Steven was a nice personality as well and it wasn't awkward at all. Usually these pro's sometimes are way to focused to be entertaining or a bit camera shy, but this was a great episode.
This honestly might be the best video NRB has put out. An absolute delight. The balance between the game and Stevens stories were perfect
so excited for this series! also PLEASE tell me this is all leading up to magnus carlsen being forced to play all the king's horses i'd kill for that
Holly’s Harvest Moon story reminded me of how SM64DS and NSMB had gambling mini games under Luigi, what fun to be had!
That first round when Holly got a 21, only for Stephen to bust and Sully to double his cash reserves had me kneeled over laughing.
EDIT: Every round in this is a god damn highlight, I can't mention every part. It went off the rails so fast!
I’m actually so excited for this new series, it sounds like so much fun!
mind-bogglingly incredible to see steven here considering i started binging his Beating the Odds series a week ago
I saw Steven on one of Mike Boyd's videos. He is becoming the card counting equivalent of that lie detector guy who's been on basically every youtube channel.
24:26 love that the expert just shut up there cause it was good for him lol... Adam shoul've stood at 17
Most casinos have the dealer hit on a soft 17
I like the hybrid gaming/interview style this series can bring. It’s different from the other stuff but still fun.
Steven seemed really cool and this was super funny, love it!
24:25 hitting a soft 17 is dodgy. Love that Stephen doesn’t correct it, even though he’d never play at a real table where that’s the rule, because it absolutely ruins Sully
I love how things crumbled almost immediately after the first loss
Honestly, props for steven to just play along with the jokes and atmosphere
steven is an absolute gem, I'm very happy to see him on nrb!!
Absolutely incredible ride, and I learned a bunch about blackjack and card counting by watching! Loving how good Steven was at explaining what he was doing when asked.
The last time I was this early Sully had not discovered his penchant for horses
Steven's villainous "Nooooooooooo!" at the end 🤣
As a fan of Steven before knowing about NRB, gotta say this is an incredible collab
if i were going to play cards with steven bridges, i would be more concerned about the magician part than the counting cards part
What a great sport Steven was. Such a good fit with the whole vibe
Please bring Steven back to do this again, was one of my favourite episodes of NRB
I hope we get a poker episode with Ken, so we can get unbridled Ken-chaos
I NEED this to be a regular series going forward. This is amazing content, and also really cool to learn about the game.
This series slaps, and having Steven to open it is a genius move. Fantastic stuff
This is just the meme of the 4 guys excitedly jumping around and the one guy looking defeated, and I am HERE FOR IT X"D
Love that Holly mentioned Harvest moon DS. That was also one of my introductions to blackjack when I was a kid.
That game also included the abillity to get a game over by killing the town mayor with your dog at the start of the game. You could also get a game over by attempting to kill the entire town by poisoning a communal soup with a lvl 100 mushroom.
And in one of the versions of the game you could court a witch who would only accept to marry you if you litter the town, kill 50 of your own animals and poison the town soup for atleast 5 years.
farming games tend to be like that
This was an absolute joy to watch, and I can't believe how invested I got
Never bet against chaos.
This episode was delightful, I can’t wait for more of this series.
The push birth related joke was right there, and Adam went for natural
The blackjack guy fit in really nicely and had a good energy, I enjoyed this a whole lot. Well done all
I appreciate that Steven mentioned it was harder to count cards while chatting in a casual environment compared to a casino. Perhaps it's a good training exercise!
i love how his strategy early on is “he can’t keep getting away with it.”
I'm sad NRB vs didn't catch on because this was a joyous ride
14:22 "we just found him at a bust stop" - is what i thought you said. I was about to applaud the amazing pun.
you'd think they'd just stop having a solved game on the casinos rather than trying to kick people out
Steven bridges is the GOAT, what an amazing cross over! ... love u stevey!
I've never been so invested in a video before. I am literally pausing when I can pay full attention to this. What a great, funny, crazy, informative episode. Great job!!! ❤🎉🎉
Oh damn, this is not a collab I expected to see. Love me some Steven Bridges.
WinginitWingspan for a Wingspan duel?
Steven was a great guest! Would not mind seeing him on the show again sometime
Steven was amazing, would definitely love to see him again in future videos. Great chemistry and quite entertaining.
I agree that we need Steven and Teri to play Guess the Card.
I hope Steven appreciated playing blackjack in such a relaxed and fun atmosphere, after those hundreds of hours of stress he experienced in casinos.☺
Steven has great chemistry with the NRB crew and playing off their general goofiness, love it! Excited to see what this new series has in store!
Sully betting high on every hand is exactly how I play poker and it works out well for a long time until it really doesn't
I've seen this guy before! Hope content creation is treating him well because I can't imagine being a renown card counter is good for the card counting business
My God this was hilarious and incredibly tense! I need a lie down to recover from that. Dan's nails look fab as always. Keep it up!
Between this and no holds board, thanks to nrb and Tempest for giving us awesome new content. Loved this episode and Stephen was a really cool guest. Also, hail Hecate! Great job Beauzos!
"Any trash talking for Steven?"
"Fuck you, Steven!"
This is an amazing video. The pacing, the humour, the perfect drama inducing scenarios that kept playing out. Felt like a movie. You guys are a good group, awesome chemistry. Favourite video on this channel probably
Dan in absolute disbelief everytime Steven makes a play
I love that sully had enough money to win the game two hands in and could have played it safe from there and easily won, but he chose to have fun and be silly.
31:28 I'm rooting for Dan. Not the others, just Dan.
I can't! this is amazing! more please! with Dan, Holly and Sully! I need this in my life.
Holly sounded just like a growling cat at 42:01
Cant wait for the snakes and ladders expert to come in here
Adam commenting on how difficult counting is and we're not even discussing true count, only running count. True count is when the casino has multiple decks and you have to divide the running count by the decks left to get your true count
So I don't frequent the card counting space of youtube at all. But as soon as I saw this, my mind went back to this british fella who ran a series where he talked about going across the country counting at every casino, talking about how they backed him off, what he won, what he lost, etc. And at about 15 minutes in, I sat up and screamed "THIS IS THE SAME GUY!"
😂
I knew I loved this channel before, and now it's even better! This was a lot of fun to watch and I'm very excited to watch more of this! 😍
Thank you NRB and Steven!
I tried to look up the basics of card counting, just to see if I could keep up. I couldn't. Even though the card dealing was slow, I wasn't speaking, I had a shorter delay between games, and I could go back and double check I was still almost always off by 1.
I can't imagine doing it in an actual casino when cards are flying by and there's noise everywhere, AND you're trying to not look suspicious.
I got so much more invested in this than I was expecting 😄
New favourite NRB video, the chemistry of everyone was hilarious! Also please keep inviting Daniel Jenius Layton.
At 24:24 Adam technically should have stopped on the soft 17, and not drawn the extra 4 to make 21. Would have meant that they wouldn't have lost so many chips early on, but didn't change the result in the end! Great video!
Most casinos hit on a soft 17
I actually can't believe they did it.
Have fun at your new job Steven.
Ooo new show, very excited
Edit: absolutely adore the expert, very charming and fits well with the group…I do miss the wide camera angle though but that’s just me
