The nostalgia hits hard. This is a game where morale always mattered. Unlike a lot of the other games GW have done lately.

On the Dark Elves. Not only are their rules good, but you can get their whole range in AoS.
The legacy factions are more alive than the core factions.
New Subscriber here- I signed up midway of this very battle report. First love I love your energy. You seem like a very down to earth guy who just wants to have a good game and enjoy the moment. The cheers, rally calls and sound effects you made added to the enjoyment of watching them. I was also impressed that you fielded unpainted models and went with what you had, and mind you, it was not cheeky in the least but rather generic and new player friendly.

On the subject shooting. having playing a few games with my son and a few tests of shooting units. I'd say that shooting is pretty strong if invested into. We played with 500pts of bowmen in my 2K brets list, I thought they way great. Especially in a Brets army where massed shooting focusing on re-directing enemy units to clear a charge lane is all important. Other than that, theres alot of secondary tasks bowmen with. Like dealing with light cavalry, deleting the odd rank bonus, causing panic rolls etc, etc.

This is perfect, I have a choice to make as I'm ready for a new project. On one shelf I have a death korps of krieg army, built and undercoated. On the other shelves are all my old fantasy battle miniatures, including loads of Empire troops, they all need a lot of work and I'm not happy with their current paint job. Into the Biostrip 20 they go!

I love the review. I am excited to see the new content for the Old World on the channel. So the Shooting is a little off; when you talk about short bows or thrown weapons, shorter range shooting, there is a specific use for them. They are mainly used on Scouts, Skrimishers, Ambushers, and Light Cav. This Shooting should be pushed into artillery and small units. If you can cause a small unit to flee or panic away from you and into the back of other units, you may be able to generate a cascade of panic and flee tests. Another use is flanks and rear actions on blocks of troops to reduce or eliminate a rank bonus before your big block or regular cav charges in. - As it is said, just my opinion. I may be full of it. Thank you so much for posting this. Keep up the excellent work.

You can buy a vast majority of the legacy armies models though
I have to agree, that 40k can be a little too killy. But then again, WFB games could drag out for a quite a bit. So I wouldn't mind a bit of simplifying and stream lining, like they did in 8th edition for 40k (which was honestly what I expected). Little things like templates or artillery dice. Just give them the "blast" rule instead. And just use hit and wound dice, with natural "1s" on hit loosing you wounds. I get the nostalgia, I really do, which is why this batrep made me so happy. But I've learned to appreciate some improvement to the tabletop we got over the years.
I couldn't disagree more. We have 40k for that game style. Id like to keep old world as is.

I plan to get into skirmish 6ed warhammer fantasy, because I already converted or lost my old fantasy models, and I only have enough left for a small gang XD
Magic can be very useful, about half my kills in my 1st game were because of my lvl4 Daemonology grey seer, either by attacks, usually doing 1 or 2 wounds a spell, or by buffs increasing the output of my guys. Especially since you can cast all spells you know in a turn

Cheers! Quick question, new to the hobby and to the channel. I was watching your battle reports (they're super fun) and I've seen that you say many times when reviewing your list that you, for example, field 2 Death Korps marshals but what you show are a Creed model and a Macharius model. Is that something you can do? I mean, pass a mini for another?
I think the question regarding handgun vs crossbow is realibility vs range. The crossbow outranges the handgun, yes, but the handgun always has at least ap 1, were as the crossbow only gets any ap on a 6 to wound.
This channel should only play old world and bolt action :D.
I was thinking about the less lethal aspect of the game. First it did not seem to effect that the game actions actually had an effect on the game, which is good, as you get to see more of your painted models on the board for longer, which is only good.
Where is the mat from you are playing at? I still need one for ToW
Oldhammer player here that started at the end of the 3d edition. I was initially unhappy with the base size changes but have come to like it very much. Now everything is not ranked up asses to elbows 😂 once i tried a rebase. I've read the rules, and it seems better than 8th edition, but time and play throughs will tell. I'm hoping it survives to get some support but I'm not buying 20+ year old models and definitely not at anywhere near the price point GW asks for these days and I'll be fully 3d printing everything which isn't a good portent considering I think a lot of people in 2024 are following suit.
I understand the allure of 3d printing to save money but if you like the game system and want gw to support it like you said it makes sense to also support the company making the game.

Imo Crossbows and handguns are both awful 😅 just because empire troops really need help staying in combat. I would be taking mortars and cannons myself with the support of a master engineer!
