- growing tropical fruit trees in containers.
Here is a eugenia caipora.
Here's just a couple of reasons I grow tropical fruit trees in containers.
Portability - the tropical fruit trees you are growing in containers can be moved around the yard, porch, or patio to find the optimal sunlight exposure or for protection from weather. Trees in pots are also easier to overwinter indoors in colder climates! we got down to the low 20's and it will happen again.. bring these babies to a warm area. The cold hardiness is unknown.
Control over soil conditions - it's easier to control the type and quality of soil the tree is growing in. The soil can be amended as needed to provide ideal nutrients and drainage.
Avoid spreading invasive roots - Some tropical fruit tree species have invasive roots or pests in soil that attack the roots. Growing some plants in containers prevents this.
Flexibility in landscaping - Container grown tropical fruit trees can add visual interest to patios, decks, and other hardscape areas where in-ground planting isn't possible. They can be moved around seasonally.
The main challenges with growing tropical fruit trees in containers are the need for more frequent watering and fertilizing and restricting the root growth over time. But with the right care and pruning, tropical fruit trees can thrive and produce well in pots.
The Eugenia caipora only gets around 6', which should make it ideal for growing in containers.
Information on the Eugenia caipora is quite limited.
