Carabiner rated to 150 lbs (68kg or 0.68kN) meanwhile real carabiners are rated to 22kN (x32 time stronger). So even if student sits on it there is chance of it braking and it's definitely braking on a fall which could reach ~2kN. Swapping gear that will fail in a fall doesn't seem like just a prank anymore. But it's good that it ended well
I'm just getting out of the Army and I had one civilian contractor who thought it was funny to go to random Bradleys and mess with things just to see how long it would take us to fix it. I haven't seen him in over 4 years
I get a lot of questions about that shirt...then they realize like you did...don't be a square. Those are actually for sale (link in description) if you're interested.
Wow! That is a shocking close call. Thank god you saw it before it broke. I hope the person who thought that would be funny was severely dealt with. Not a good time to be funny especially with other peoples children on the line.
Not funny at all, I can't imagine how their responsible person would have felt knowing they didn't catch that carabiner if it failed. Hopefully the prankster was dealt with, I would see that as a risk of injury charge for sure

Yeah. Definitely not a good method when messing with anything life safety related.
Don't be a Reef knot? Oh, never mind I get it.

Yes. Life safety certainly isn't an area to fill around with.

It sure does make me check the setup every time now.
