  • This is a transfer I made from the 16mm film I own. Put out by Grain Belt beer this is a fun little film. It features the fishing available at the Arctic Lodge on Reindeer Lake. Probably from the 50's Grain Belt would have distributed the film to to show at your local bar. It advertised their Premium Beer as well as the vacation opportunities available at the Arctic Lodge.
Reindeer Lake is a lake in Western Canada located on the border between northeastern Saskatchewan and northwestern Manitoba, with the majority in Saskatchewan. It is the second-largest lake in Saskatchewan and the ninth largest in Canada.
Fishing is an important industry in the area and sport-fishermen are drawn by its clear and deep waters. Trophy-sized Pike are common at Reindeer Lake. The lake also supports commercial fishing. Fish species include walleye, yellow perch, northern pike, lake trout, arctic grayling, lake whitefish, and burbot. This film is mostly about different types of trout (talks quite a bit about 15 to 30 pound trout being caught) and grayling.
Thank you all for your support, the ad revenue from UA-cam helps me to purchase new films and continue with the transfers and uploads. Please continue to support the ads and DVD's

Ahhh, nothing better than fishing on Canadian lakes and knocking back a few "Grain Belts!"

Very cool. I live in northern Saskatchewan, west of Reindeer Lake and have been guiding for years. Film from this era (especially of this quality) is VERY rare. Great video, thanks for sharing.

If only we knew then what we know now. That goes for a lot of things in this video.

Fished at this camp about 10 years ago and it was the best fishing I’ve ever had! Pike, Walleye, Lake Trout, Grayling, and even a Whitefish. Catch and release now only keep for shore lunch or Trophy size. Highly recommend and look forward to going back.

I love the 'contempt' they have for releasing the fish with a flip back into the water.🤨

Awesome film. I have fished there many times. My biggest northern was 46" with many in the 40+" class. Nice trout and grayling as well.

Thanks! I've paddled there and really want to get back. In fact, that airstrip and the DC-3 crashed in the bush was on our list of things we hoped to see. Maybe next time. I'm curious about the "land locked salmon trout" that he mentions as being different from lake trout. I've never heard of such a thing and as far as I know, there's only lake trout in Reindeer. Anyone have more insight? I'll have to come back later to watch the rest of the video.

    69 trout in over a hour… now I know why there’s 1-2 limit today..but wow

Terrible treatment of fish. But great video

  • @gadget771

I'm no tree or whale hugger, but guaranteed 90% mortality rate with how those fish were handled! Sad! Luckily we've come a long way since then!

  • @oldfart5063

its sad how poorly they handled fish back then . it looks like they wanted to really hurt the northern when they threw them back in .

  • @gregarchibald4565

What fish is he talking about when he says landlocked salmon trout?

  • @Michael-vj7cp

There's no Landlocked Salmon (trout) in this lake, there's Lake Trout.
