I've been shooting a trigger release for 10+ years and I've recently developed target panic in the worst way. At the suggestion of my brother, I just ordered a Scott Backspin ( I also considered the Longhorn). I thought it might be a good idea to learn how to used the thing before I punched myself in the face. This and other videos I've watched have helped a lot, and I don't even have the release yet! Thanks, Mark!
Being left handed myself I understand this now. I've been punching the release and jumping with target panic. This has really helped me and my groups are beginning to tighten up. Great video and thank you.
AWESOME tutorial👍...I'm one month new to compounds and presently shoot with a 4-finger thumb trigger release...having seen other videos about the virtues of back tension and hinge releases, your video is the only one that has given me that "AHA!!!" moment with a smile😁...thank you for sharing and the effort of putting this well-sorted tutorial together for us newbies to learn from!...more please...SUBSCRIBED...
This is the best instructional video I've saw yet on how to use a hinge release, after watching your review I felt confident enough to order one myself and I'm also making a training aid similar to the one you have in the video, thanks for the great review,
Great vid man. I am just learning to shoot a hinge as well. I started at the beginning of April and my 3d and target scores have already started to go up. You explain the process perfectly. One thing I learned from researching and getting some feedback on ArcheryTalk is that if you shoot a click, it should click at the beginning of the shot. For example, when you take your thumb off the peg or as you are coming to anchor. Rather than clicking in the middle of your relaxation and shot execution.
I saw a video of a hex release. Almost the same as your model. And what really made the difference was the wrist strap. It really made me to trust the draw of the string by not having to keep that release in my hand during the draw.
Thanks, Chase! That is a good point regarding the timing of the click. I actually had the release setup "slower" than usual in this video because I wanted the movement to be exaggerated, so that people could see it.
Absolutely outstanding. This is the first time that I can say I understand how a hinge release works. THANK YOU for laking the time to make this video!!!! The closeups, and your way of explaining, made it really simple to understand. I've been shooting with a Stan SX3 and think I'll give this a try. Bobby
Great video. Got my Back Spin last week and the tips you provided have been a great aid in making the transition from a trigger to a back tension release.
Dude thank you!! So many people recommended or suggested I should become a hinge shooter, I`m going to be honest it sounded complicated and was scared for change. THEN I started having problems with my wrist release where after the first 5 arrows the wrist strap stretched and finally settled in a different position (hope that makes sense) affecting my anchor point. Thanks to you, explaining how a hinge work and by using a training aid, I`m ordering my Scott Backspin Levi Morgan Edition Green NOW!!
Thanks Mark. I've been watching other videos and yours is so much clearer and understandable to someone who is new to using the back tension release. Great job!
Very good review best I've seen on a hinge release, been shooting a Carter evolution + for years , ready to try the True ball sweet spot 3 , heard it has a lock so when your drawing back it can't fire. I'll never go Back to a trigger again, had target panic so bad as soon as I came to full draw I had to shoot right away. Almost ending my archery career. Aim aim aim , shot go off love it.... Again Great review.......
Hey Mark, Love the video. I am just getting use to shooting with a Scott Longhorn Hex. So far I its going well. I also copied your design and made a release practice aid. I have to say these things are awesome for getting the feel of your release. I'm sure that the purists out there will all say its not the same as actually shooting your bow and I'd have to agree but it beats doing nothing when you can't get outside or to a range to shoot. Well done sir. Tim
Fantastic video! I don't see hunting with one, but your point of practicing with one to get better at shooting in general might persuade me to get one.
Thank you, this video was exactly what I was looking. I've looked at plenty of other videos on back tension releases (without joy) - you've done a fantastic job of demystifying it and I've had the necessary Light Bulb moment! :-D
This has helped a bunch! I just bought one and figured gotta try it and cure my target panic. I'm like you whear i am only a bow hunter, Thanks for this video!
I head you say that you don't hunt with the hinge release, but that nothing else has helped your shooting more than practicing with a hinge release. Like I said, I use a Stan SX3. Do you have a problem going from a thumb release to a hinge release, like the one you are using with the same bow. I shoot an Elite Impulse 31. BTW, if I do get one, it'll be one like you have - I understand it. BObby
Mark, do you know how to stop the click on the release? (Im using the Scott Longhorn back tension release which looks like the one you are using in the video)
One side of the moon has the click "cut" in it and the other side doesn't. Back the moon adjustment screw out, remove the moon's pivot pin, then simply flip the moon around and re-install.
As I said in the video, I was exaggerating the hand movement for the video. It would be a pretty useless demonstration if you couldn't see anything happen.

Young man you did a great job of not only explaining but demonstrating the hinge release shot process, nice job!
Best back tension explanation i have seen. Thanks for a great video

I'm subscribing because you helped out a lot and I'm trying to overcome target panic. Txs a lot.
EASILY THE BEST VIDEO IVE SEEN ON THIS TOPIC! THANK YOU!
This is was single most helpful video I have seen. I finally understand how to use my backtension release. Many thanks.

Absolutely the best explanation ive found. Thank you!

The Backspin is a great release! Start slow, practice with an aid, and you'll do great.
Thank you for taking the time to explain the hinge release clear and simple

I think you did an excellent job explaining it.
Awesome video, very thorough explanation, the training tool is a great idea
Awesome video, this was so helpful for me as I start using a hinge.
Thanks for the vid, no one really explains how they work. You have!!! Grate vid!
Anyway! Great vid and the surprise release is an awesome thing!!! Very accurate and I crave the feeling of a clean shot breaking off...
best explanation ever thanks!
Fantastic video. Very clear and informative. Thank you!
Aaaand now I see it’s years old lol
WOW...... This freaks me out. Thanks for showing this. I guess I better start training with one
Video helped me understand some things. Thanks.
really nice video! :) is there any big difference between different hinge releases or do i just pick what feels comfortable in my hand?

Are you shooting an Elite?
Yes, the bow in this video is an Elite Pure. I am shooting the new Energy 35 this year.
they are awesome, but spoke the crap out of you when it goes off hahaha
the release aid has nothing to do with target panic or back tension, and strap releases are higly inaccurate and introduces to many variables
doesn't look like back tension to me. all your doing is moving your hand to release the string
As I said in the video, I was exaggerating the hand movement for the video. It would be a pretty useless demonstration if you couldn't see anything happen.
Looked like back tension to me dipshit.
