Something makes me think. I know many people tend to call the Cardassians Space Nazis. There is some credit to it. But the Cardassians actually more resemble Imperial Japan in the 1930s and 1940s, when the civil government was basically replaced by a military ditatorship. Similarities like expansionism due to a profound lack of resources, comfort women, brutal atrocitites against civilian (just think of the Nanking Massacre) and so on. Even the occupation of Bajor has striking similarities to how Korea was finally annexed and treated by Imperial Japan.

I hope they ended up like japan in the end too. Reforming democracy and aligning themselves with the federation, then rebuilding their economy through the heavy industry methods they leaned alongside the dominion.

The Cardassians never had the Proud Warrior identity of the Klingons or even the Romulans. They were more 'People's Republic of Tyranny' than 'conquering, arrogant Empire.' Honestly, I think the best option for them after the Dominion War was to try to join the Federation. Ironically, they ended DS9 in the same place that Bajor started the show.
I always thought the Cardassians were a lost colony of Bajorans which diverged over time, like the Romulans from the Vulcans.

One theory ive always belived in when it came to the cardassians is that. Their race holds a dark secret that they have tried to bury as deep as possible due to their own need to feel superiror to other races. The Cardassians are not a natual species. They are in reality. Simply altered or mutated Bajorians. We learn in DS9 that the cardassians denied for as long as possible that a bajorian ship could of ever made it to cardassia. Until Sisko proved that it was possible. And they miracoulusly and suddenly unearthed a crashed Bajorian ship. To say that is suspicous is an understatement. Compounding this, they origianlly are said to of had a highly spiritual culture once, just as the Bajorians did. One could even argue that the Cardassian govermental systems, resembles the Bajorian Caste system, but far more brutal and cruel, with demanding people fit into a state mandated role, or else they will be punished severly.
Beyond even that, there are more hints to this being the case. The occupation of Bajor is often said to be motivated by the cardassians stripping it of all it's natural resouces, but that never truly made much sense. The sheer amount of time, effort, resouraces and manpower that cardassia had to use to occupy bajor, seems highly unlikley to of been outweighed by whatever they could of pulled from the planet. However the labor camps and other operations imply the cardasisans digging constnatlyy and strip mining non stop and stealing countless artifacts of religous and historical and cultural siginficance from Bajor. But why do that?
Perhaps beacuse they were trying to find or dispose of something that could of been discovered from these about them. And so they went to incredible extremes to get their hands on them and never give them back.
Compounding this, the greatest piece of evidence is the sheer fact Cardasisans and Bajorians can naturally reproduce with eachother without any medical assistance. This is very odd as most other species ,such as vulcans and humans and klingons and humans, need help from a medical professional to have children due to genetic incompatabilites. being very diffretn species. Yet somehow. The Cardassians and Bajorians can just. Have children compeltly on their own through normal means?
That implies a shared ancestry, not to mention how everyone seems to acknowldege that Cardassians are very attracted to Bajorians near universally. Another oddity given that Klingons tend to find Humans nomrally not very attractive without their ridges. And Vulcans normally do not find themsleves drawn to humans either. Yet Cardassians are well known to be drawn to Bajorian women and Dukat noted that both sides disliked the existance of and rejected half breed children between their speices that had no place in either of their soecieites. So this was a wide spread thing.
Not to mention that the Pah-wraiths chose Dukat of ALL people to be their prohpet and not a Bajorian. And undid his disgquise to retrn him to his true cardassian apperance. A very odd thing to do unless Cardassians and Bajorians are related in some way.
Putting all that together and more it's quite possible Bajorain colonists found, crashlanded on and were trapped on Cardasisa. Found it's envioment very difficult and so used their advanced science to take a native lizard like speices DNA and add it to their own. To Adapt to the enviorment. Enouph generatoins pass and the Cardassian race is fully developed.

It depends when exactly the Bajorans ‘found’ Cardassia. Was this before, during or after the Hebitian period. Did the Bajorans actually cause the fall of the Hebitian society. If the latter Cardassians were sub sect of the Hebitians, a revenge opera of sorts against the latter Bajorans.

    • @naciabell7903
      @naciabell7903 Місяць тому +2

@@ianpatterson6552 Indeed! There is so much potential to be explored with this. An even better question to be asked is as well...What if the Hebitian's were bajorians who left to escape the caste system and form a more republican/democratic socicety? Or did the Bajorains join in and start to take over this society til it collasped?
We saw that the momentthe caste system was being reinstated even just on DS9 Bajorians were ready to kill and shame eachother for not adhering to it or beacuse their caste was 'unclean'.
Applying that to either them founding the Hebitian's or joining them and it's easy to see how that could lead to a collaspe.
Not to mention that trait of some bajorians strictly adhering to the caste system can easily be transalted over to Cardassian's and their strict adherience to law, oder and authority for the most part culture wise.

@@naciabell7903 Bajor had a number of Republics prior to DS9. Were they once monarchical. Did the species that attacked the Klingons after Kahless also attack Bajor? Endless possibilities.

I would love to eventually find out how the Cardassians relationship with the Federation improved after the 24th century, to the point that by the 32nd century, the Federation President is part-Cardassian. I doubt that's canon information right now, but I'm sure it's an interesting story nonetheless. Hope we eventually get to hear it.

@@skyserf but the obvious double standard makes them look bad in the court of public opinion (just think of all the neutral powers they might need in the Future). And as for Siskos Secret. Well, it is secret for now. But once that story gets scrutiny in court (and the Romulans would insist on a trial both to deter possible invaders and to justify their losses) problems would arise. Just imagine that one, or more, of the alleged participants of the alleged meeting had a watertight Alibi. This would of course mean the record is A FAAAKE. Which in turn would mean the Dominion never had a motive to kill the Senator.

She was lucky the Federation did not have the mindset of the US during wartime. Otherwise her original plan to force them into a Pyrrhic victory would have been the better choice.
