Hi April, A father and daughter BIG THANK YOU. Just wanted to let you know i got a chance to watch a few of your videos months ago. I showed my daughter your you tube channel and she was amazed on the cool stuff you work on. She now got the bug and is picking up my tools to work on some of her projects. Funny, she worked with me when she was younger but didn't like to get dirty, LOL.... Now that she is older that doesn't bother her. She likes the power tools and the smile at the end of her projects is priceless. One day she will tackle some of those bigger project. It's fun working with her again. We will be watching your future projects. Again, A BIG THANK YOU.....
Nice project, and better handy work. It is heartwarming to see that we still have people like you in our country: You wanted eggs, you built a chicken coop... And you did it all with a beautiful smile. That's the American spirit!!! Loved your video.
Also appreciate that she doesn't start off with irritating music. Videos are short and get right to the point and everything about the build is covered. Been enjoying her videos since about the time she started.
April, I love it when you make mistakes because it proves that a PRO. like you is still human like us!!!!!! You are also so cute when you make mistakes!!! Wink... I only wish I could do what you do with wood & I wouldn't get "guff" from my husband when I ask for any building. I sew & I continue to make mistakes after 40+ yrs, I have a lot of opportunities to fix my mistakes. Great advice you gave on not giving up on doing it over!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing another great video!!!!!Take care!
I just began watching your channel a week ago, and I am hooked, you're natural charm, innate intellect and smile will keep me coming back for more, yes I'll like share and subscribe!!!!Thanks...
"CHICK INN" Love it. We just bought a new house and the coop was included so I won't be building one but thanks for the video. Again, I so much enjoy seeing you with your folks.
So much fun. I considered getting chickens (which has never been a thought that I've had) so that I'd have an excuse to build a coop while watching this series. Whether I get some chickens or not - it's always fun to appreciate the craft! Turned out great, excellent coop
Great job. I built a cool for my Mom and kids. Started with 12 chickens, now 7. That's plenty. Watch for the hawks, raccoons, foxes and the other varmints, they like chickens also. Nothing beats fresh eggs plus their fun to watch.
Lots of great ideas! I raised 12 chickens and had a coop repurposed from an tool shed. The cleaning aspect is so important and i loved the removable roost bar idea, and the easy access door in the back, as well as the hinged laying box top. Major kuddos for a well thought out design and awesome finished product! Keep up the great work!
We purchased the plans a few weeks ago and are just finishing our coop. We made ours 4x8 instead of 4x5. For easier cleaning and so that the plywood won't absorb the poop smell, we put linoleum on the deck of the floor before putting the walls on top and also put it on the bottom of the nesting boxes before installing the dividers. We also put our mesh on the inside of the window opening instead of the outside so that we could close the windows without crawling into the coop. Other than those few changes, the coop looks pretty darn good. Also, a good addition to the plans would be placing the cut letters on the diagram instead of or in addition to using color. The colors are too close in shade and the flipping back and forth was aggravating. We had to spend a few hours prepping the plans before starting our project. We previously built "the palace" coop and have used that for many years but we wanted a second smaller coop closer to the house. Thank you for this cute plan. You are a very talented crafter.
Very impressed with the completion of the "CHICK INN". Looking forward to the day the chicks arrive. They are going to be some happy campers when they see their new home. As always, "GREAT JOB"!
Great work April❣️❣️🫶🥰 I would like to suggest a thing for your nesting box, I like the drop down door on the back of the nest box’s for egg retrieval , so not to scare your layer hens😳😱, like your floor clean outport drop down. I really love your design ❣️❣️❤ the portion your fresh eggs sign is❤
When I painted T-111 I went over it with a stiff brush to remove small bits that can fall out over time before sanding. Really neat project. I am waiting what you build for the steers.
I love the name of the Chicken coup 😆👍👍 It's also a really good looking home for your chickens...... once they've been hatched 🐣 and got a bit bigger 🐔🐓👍👍👍
We really enjoy watching your videos, you are very good at explaining what, how and why you do what you do. About the mistake, in quilting they call it a "God Square" showing that humans are not perfect and we all make mistakes. Have to coin a term for when carpenters make a mistake as well. THANK YOU for all of your great videos!
I had to make a run for my chickens, The coyotes would come out of the creek bottom and snatch one and run. I live in close to Houston, on 9 acres. Also, another reason for the enclosed run is to keep chickens off the back porch, where they eat all the dry cat food. But, you'll learn all this extra stuff. Great build.
Hi April. I live in the Hill Country also and know the summer heat. I suggest Henry Tropicool for you coup rooftop. It does make a measureable difference on reflecting sunrays and does not radiate heat to an interior. I like your coup. It is at your Home Big Box store.
great build one thing that i have done after building my third coop is I extended the floor out past the legs that allows me to put my tractor bucket under the edge of the floor to sweep out the litter.
If you make another coop, you might want to get some sheet vinyl and cover the "floor" with it, before adding walls. Caulk at bottom of walls after makes it a breeze to clean
Thank you so much for posting these. You are a terrific presenter, and you are very easy to understand. The editing work is also terrific. The plans are also very helpful. I have a chicken coup to build and the inspiration from your videos will be a big help.
i saw on another youtube a few weeks ago. how they have a bottomless cage to move around the yard for the chickens. so they get fresh areas to eat from and fresh areas to make deposits in.
Fabulous video and information April, thank you. I have been debating for sometime about getting hens and have been avidly reading up on how to care for them. Your coop is brilliant and i have just purchased the plans for it. I will also be building a run as we have foxes and sparrow hawks a plenty. I've also purchased the Shaded Dog Pool Plans, i don't have a dog but i am going to make it as a gift for a friend. I don't have all the tools just a hammer, screw driver, chop saw and drill but as long as they do the job i don't mind it taking a little long. Thank you for the inspiration. Best regards Jo.
You are so cool! I want to build something like this for my yard but, since I have no wood working experience, I think I should start smaller. Maybe one day!
April Great job on the Coop. But NEVER and I mean Never Again put your self between a trailer and another object while it's backing. One slip of the clutch or gas pedal by the driver. And it's over. Many Dock workers and truck drivers have been killed this way. Love your channel !
Agreed I spend most of my life around industrial equipment (tractors, trailers, dump trucks, etc) never put your self into a pinch zone. I have seen how things can go from ok to total catastrophe in seconds.
I don't know nothin' about chickens, or coops, but... if I were working up that close to a big-ass fan, I'd probably have turned the fan off. I like the roosting sticks. Easy and cheap to replace since they're made from readily available materials. Also, fresh eggs. Yum! Now you just need some pigs, and you've got yourself a breakfast.
Great Courses has been part of my Library upon recommendation from my son. You might pitch them about making a course on wood working from a log to Chick Inn coop. Lake Livingston is only a hop skip & jump from you for your choice of tree to mill.
Great job! My wife and daughter are hounding me to get a coop and chickens. The pre built coops seem like junk so I’ll likely get your plans and have at it myself. Thanks
Can't have chickens. I have woods right behind my house, and the dog and I see the family of foxes daily. Pretty inspirational to see four of them at a time. There's one that just sits and stares at us. Weirds me out!
We've got them too, along with coyotes, hawks, skunks, possums, snakes, etc. Add the run she also designed with proper installation of the hardware cloth at the bottom into the ground and it's pretty predator proof. We have some forestry landscapers on our farm atm, and they declared this the fanciest coop theyd ever seen! We added some scrap linoleum to the floor inside so it's even easier to keep clean - I'm in a humid place where deep litter method isn't practical and this will protect the plywood floor for years to come.
Thanks for the awesome build. It gives me some ideas for the coop I’ll be building soon. I just seen the 1 million milestone! Congratulations, that is awesome.🙌
You will always make mistakes but............ You will find as you gain experience the number of them and the magnitude will get smaller and way less frequent. I have watched you from early on and sorry I missed you and Matt at the show in Vegas this year but I have moved to AZ right before the show and am and will always be one of your biggest fans. Keep up the good work!
I like the "play on name" Chick inn. Around here next town in St-Gédéon, he name his farm "Gédé Oeufs". It's a play on name where "Gédé" = "J'ai des" meaning "I have/got a/some/many". So yeah, his play-on-name means "I got eggs" (sorry for my boring french 101) 😂😂
I love this coop! Even more because It came with the house we just bought. My biggest question is about the windows. You have to climb inside the coop to be able to open and close them. It seems it would be easier to attach a handle to the outside to slide them. Is there a reason they are inside? Thanks!
APRIL, RE : I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS, YET, I STILL MAKE MISTAKES... You know, experience is a wonderful thing. It allows us to recognise mistakes, when we make them again. !
We meet in Houston at Rockler. I also have chickens that free range. If your not home every night at dust unwanted guess can go in the coop and eat your chickens. Check out Automatic Coop Door Opener by Brinsea. It is made in England and cost about $250.00 but worth every cent. I've had mine 4 years now and I love it. My girls are safe every night. Never had any unwanted guess in with the girls. You can never be home every night at dust. BEST opener ever.

Great work as usual and I continue to appreciate your voice-over format which keeps the videos short but yet very interesting.
I agree. It's a great format. Works really well for this type of stuff.
Also appreciate that she doesn't start off with irritating music. Videos are short and get right to the point and everything about the build is covered. Been enjoying her videos since about the time she started.

Love the coop! It's beautiful! I love how you show any mistakes. It reminds us we all make mistakes and it's ok. Thanks for all you do.
You are a very polite lady, love your last finish. Thank you for sharing your story. God bless you and your family
Very precise design and finishing, I admire your masterpiece, especially the beautiful barbed wire installation
Thank you very much!

Thanks! Your coop sounds fabulous. Thank you for sharing and for watching.
Very nice of you to go to Seattle to help Anne of all Trades with her deck.
Love the chicken cooper build!
Enjoy all your video! Thanks for sharing!

The Chick Inn is pretty cool. Your explanation of your construction process is great.
Beautiful chicken coop. I hope they appreciate what you did for them.
you have some serious skills woman!!
Awesome job April, it really came out nice! 😃👍🏻🐔🐔🥚🥚🐣🐣🐥🐥👊🏻 Great job helping to Mom and Dad as well! 😃👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
I love that this looks like a mini barn and those signs are fabulous! Fantastic job as always!

Gorgeous little coop! You’re right, the trim work looks terrific.
Great work! Thanks for taking the time to make, film, edit and share

How do you get plans
I love how you are able to tell us of your mistakes too 😊
Nice apartment house for the chicken ! Good job !
Sie haben wirklich goldene Hände
i saw on another youtube a few weeks ago. how they have a bottomless cage to move around the yard for the chickens. so they get fresh areas to eat from and fresh areas to make deposits in.
Chickens are very entertaining and trainable. I recommend a mix of breeds.
that's a neat little chicken coop ... I like this ... signs and all ...
You are very well organized! Do-ant!
Nice work April
Very, very, very cool your chicken coops.
April - Don't say that you made a mistake - wrong side. You should say "I was prototyping another way of installing." Haha!!!
Thank you
This is amazing! I love it but my dear one of these days you could forget the overhead fan that would be a nasty injury for you!
That came out awesome April !
That is the cutest coop ever
Fabulous video and information April, thank you. I have been debating for sometime about getting hens and have been avidly reading up on how to care for them. I love your coop.
A rainwater harvesting system would be awesome!
We're adding a small gutter across the back of the coop and the run as catchment for a rain barrel we'll use to water the girls :)
Awesome project, April. Build that fenced run -- free range chickens = free range coyote food!
You are so cool! I want to build something like this for my yard but, since I have no wood working experience, I think I should start smaller. Maybe one day!
Those steel toe slippers @7:12 look comfy!!
You go Texas Girl! Watching from Houston for years. You’ve come a long ways! Love.

Like the Matt Cremona advert 👍😉
Made me SO nervous with that fan!! Much easier to turn it off while you have to be that close! A lot cheaper too, and life saving potentially!! 👉❤️🙏😁
The coop looks really good April...great job!
Your parents must be proud, and rightfully so!
Great video April. I think you should invest (or get sponsored) in a wagoner HVLP sprayer. This would have been a great project for it.
Woah! Just noticed you surpassed 1m subscribers! Congratulations on your milestone!

eggtastic job. hey next time you paint T1-11 use a larger nap roller. it will fill in the groves quickly
We just made a coup very similar to this.... thanks for the ideas... came out great.
Glad it was helpful!
Great Courses has been part of my Library upon recommendation from my son. You might pitch them about making a course on wood working from a log to Chick Inn coop. Lake Livingston is only a hop skip & jump from you for your choice of tree to mill.
Which I could have the talent and knowledge u have. And of course the shop with all the tools 😂😂. Nice coop.
6:58 - I've hit my head so many times (on smaller ones) that gave me a bit of anxiety. (-: Nice work.
Great job! My wife and daughter are hounding me to get a coop and chickens. The pre built coops seem like junk so I’ll likely get your plans and have at it myself. Thanks

Hey, I'm subscribed to you guys! Hi.
So nice April!
Great job. Those chickens will be dancin'!
When you said you thought of your camera as us, I got glassy eyed. You're so sweet. Thanks for another great video!
You will always make mistakes but............ You will find as you gain experience the number of them and the magnitude will get smaller and way less frequent. Lovely coop, great job!
You always have "great projects" April! Thank You
Great project April, great looking, I also admire how if there's a hiccup, you tell us and move on, thanks
TY for another great video; you make it all look so simple; love your- voice over style; keep up the good work
Great build, looking forward to the run.
Awesome coop! It seems pretty closed in though. I read that chickens need adequate ventilation.
Happy hens, healthy eggs!
usted hace cosas muy bonitas felicitaciones siga adelante con sus proyectos
This design is just too cute. Maybe I should see if I'm allowed chickens in my city...
I like the "play on name" Chick inn.

Great job! And thanks for leaving the mistakes in, it makes me feel better knowing I am not the only one making them :)
Very nice. Awesome job
nice

What a carpentry master that looks hard I think I'll use a cardboard box instead.
Love if for my best friend because he is interested to build a shed
APRIL,
RE : I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS, YET, I STILL MAKE MISTAKES...
You know, experience is a wonderful thing. It allows us to recognise mistakes,
when we make them again.
!
It's only a mistake if you don't fix it, in this case it was a redesign in the middle of construction.
Love the signage April!! nice touch!
wow your head was close great build
Love your videos April! Huge inspiration!
In a cold climate the roosts should be 2x4's laid flat so the the chickens can sit on their feet to keep them from freezing. I learned the hard way.
God bless you from Nicaragua.
We meet in Houston at Rockler. I also have chickens that free range. If your not home every night at dust unwanted guess can go in the coop and eat your chickens. I should have had you build my coop. lol Grreat work as always April.
