We recently found your channel and subscribed. My husband and I really enjoy watching your life in the UP. We live in Wisconsin and don’t have any snow right now. But… tomorrow we start a few days of around 40 below temps with wind chill. You make us smile with your dancing and we love your cats.❤
hi in WI, thank you for subscribing and for your kind words :) I am partial but I agree, i think the cats are wonderful! this extra cold weather is not my favorite because I can't stay outside for very long and I love being outside. Stay safe and warm!
Greetings from SE Michigan! I have to say I admire the sacrifices you're making and work you're putting in for your family. I've been there. Continued good luck! And keep up the great videos!
I believe insulation is your first move - may help you heating bill. You may also consider a self regulating ice melting heating coil - on your roof, gutter and downspout. I installed once several years ago and it performs quite well. Marie , this channel will continue to grow - you are a breath of fresh air. We live in Alberta, Canada and experience dangerously cold weather several times during a long winter. Take care.
Glad to see your positive attitude affects your whole life. Very healthy. Your attitude is infectious even through the video. Perseverance and patience can be a wonderful thing when you have it. You do have it. Alternate plans, when you are able to,make them, are always a good thing so you are not caught off guard. Lots of trade offs when you live rurally. Catch you on the next one. P.S. just got done clearing my driveway with my EGO blower!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, I try to stay positive even when things get tough, I am learning so much about my house/roof/lack of insulation and how to manage the snow! thank you for such a kind comment! I am about to go back out to clear my driveway with my EGO, hope you get to warm up by a fire and relax now that your drive is clear!
Your refreshing open, honest and at times amusing assessments, of all aspects of living in the UP, should be mandatory viewing for anyone looking to retire there. I have made the mistake of driving through areas in the shoulder seasons, thinking this place is beautiful and it doesn’t have too many people, it would be a great place to retire to. You should pay attention to the reasons for the low population density. Another great video, thanks!
hi Brad! its almost the weekend, how did that happen?! thank you for your comment, always brining a smile to my face! you are so right, there is a reason why people don't live in certain beautiful areas, thank you for stopping by!!
You are so fun... Be careful up there on that roof... Munson over by Traverse City covers just about every major thing... Justin FYI.... Now for the pizza... I bought an outdoor pizza oven a while back... I love it but I've gained 10 lbs from it, Lol. Those are some cool kitty cats... Hope you have an awesome weekend, Peace
I know, it was very icy, I was happy to get down. that is good to know about Munson, thank you! pizza! I had pizza today lol its been good to help me gain back a few lbs, but if I keep at it, like you said. I want to build a brick pizza oven this summer, there are some left over building supplies that I want to try to use. I get to go. snowshoeing tomorrow so I am very exctied, I hope you have a great weekend too!
@marieintheUP That's awesome... I wanted to build my own but I ended up ordering one from Italy... Maybe after you build yours I'll be inspired... Have fun snowmobiling.. be safe ✌️
Hi Marie! What a timely vlog this was for me! I had no idea about wait lists. I thought being within an hour or so to Esky was good enough. You have opened my eyes. I will also check out Marquette and Green Bay. The cold provides you with such a ruddy complexion, too cute and a pony tail to boot. The kitties looked so fluffy and warm. I like them so much more than Pumpkin cat. I understand a deep freeze is coming for the next 10-14 days. Please be good to yourself and take more breaks to warm up and hydrate. I will get all my doctor and dental appts. down in FL. before I move up. Still looking for May to make the big move. Thank your for sharing. Bye!
hi Istvan! how are you doing today? I could use some sunshine sent my way, so I am glad to see your comment! I was very surprised about the waitlists, luckily everyone is very helpful with how to navigate, and like you said you can look into Marquette and Green Bay. I have rosy cheeks here you are right, that cold crisp air! lol right, pumpkin was not friendly to my cats! you are right about the deep freeze, I am not excited about it, I worry about losing power and then having to rely on the generator for heat. Im so glad to hear you will be working on all your medical appointments before you move up, i really wish I would have done that. sooo exciting that you are moving up in May, thats a great time, the weather will be turning to spring but still some cooler days, perfect for unloading a moving truck. talk to you later!
also please keep me posted on how things go for you with your doctors here, Im not sure is all of the UP is the same as the Eastern Part, but from what i have been hearing is that it most likely is- excited for you!
@@marieintheUP Hi Marie! I'm doing well thank you. I will do my best with the sunshine and some warmer temps for you! Reassuring to hear the doctors staff are so helpful. I know you are very self sufficient, I just need to ask. When is the last time you used the generator? Did you check the oil level? I take it the gas is fresh and you have enough on hand. You just might want to start the generator, let it run a bit to ensure there are no surprises if you need to use it. I am very proud of you for tackling all these new experiences and learning and growing so much along the way! You honestly do inspire me, thank you Marie!
Sorry, one more thing. Please use ethanol free gasoline in all your small gasoline engines. It's harder to find and more expensive then regular gas, but it really does help in starting, running and prolonging engine life.
The white pipe is your plumbing drains vent line. Its kind of like the valve on a gas can. If you didn’t have them your plumbing would not drain well due to the vacuum that is being created without one.
@ i had a squirrel go down the pipe and come up through a toilet. True story. Ive since extended mine up another foot. Id go higher but didn’t want these super long pipes all over like flag poles.
I was born and raised a yooper I moved away after college. I watched my parents deal with old age and brutal winters trying to survive with health care issues in their 90's. I'm 60 now soon to be retired, I will never move back to the U.P. It's not to bad when you are young living there, it's very hard when you're old. My aunt is 102 and still lives in the U.P., it's getting very hard for her.
hi Kevin, it does sound like life for your aunt who is 102 has its challenges in the UP, what an amazing women, still living here. I know that some point healthcare needs will force me to move because I know I can't be out there shoveling snow when i'm older and my family will need more healthcare options as they age. thank you for watching and for letting me know you were born and raised in the UP!
Great information about healthcare around the EUP. I have heard that people in Canada have even longer waiting lists and some travel to the USA for healthcare. I wonder if that is making longer waiting lists near the border? You are right about the ice dams and insulation. I went through the same thing and preventing leaks is worth the effort. I agree with the cold draining energy, it sure sneaks up on you. I watched Survivorman once where Les Stroud was in the Arctic and ate a whole stick of butter to keep warm. No thanks!😅 However the right kinds of natural fats are great for keeping warm. Real butter, fish oil, a big breakfast are all good cold weather fuel. A good chicken dinner with baked potato and vegetables really helps keep me warm ice fishing. Thanks for sharing!
hi, thank you for such a great comment! yeah no thank you on the stick of butter, ick too much, but you are right, I have been adding potatoes and carrots to my meals and they have really helped, I do like a nice hot breakfast, its typically my largest meal of the day. I'm still hoping to ice fish someday! things are quite frozen here yet sadly. dealing with these ice dams is a full time job, I can't wait to have the insulation installed. I wonder if that is having some impact on the healthcare access, its possible. something to ponder. thanks for watching!
I'm getting used to seeing you on the roof, but it still makes me nervous (based on my personal experiences many years ago 😊). I know you are careful. You certainly do a good job with the snow. Healthcare is such a problem everywhere. A family member (in a large city)had a blood test result that the Dr. said was way out of range and they needed to see a specialist - first opening was 8 months! Your rosy cheeks are cute😊. Stay warm! Your videos are always entertaining.
hi, my cheeks are so rosy in this cold crisp air : ) as soon as I have the ice dam issue fixed I won't have to get on the roof much after that in the winter thankfully, healthcare is a problem you are right, I wasn't used to a 14 month wait for a dentist or 4-6 months to get into a primary care doctor, but now I know! thanks for watching!
The snow scoop (yooper scooper) works good on the roof. Original yooper scoopers were made out of sheet metal and were hard on shingles. I had to keep them up an inch to prevent damage. Plastic scoops and shovels are no problem as long as you go down or down at a diagonal. When you get your ice dams solved you will only have to shovel when the snow gets over two feet, or if it rains on heavy snow. Most roofs are designed for 40 pound snow load. Rain soaked snow is a lot heavier.
@marieintheUP Tie a rope and pull it up the ladder. Is it heavier than your snow broom? The snow broom would damage the roof. I have used small snow blowers on commercial roofs where the pitch is a lot less. All that snow shoveling will build up your upper body strength. You will have to balance it out by taking time off to go snow shoeing.
Upper Michigan has different building codes than other places due to the snow load. In the U.P. trusses are built to A 90 pound per square foot load rating for a 6/12 pitch roof. At least that's what it was when I lived there 40 years ago.
For my area, A lot of people go to Green Bay vs anything in town. But I think the biggest problem is mental health providers because most of the time your options are for people down "in the mitten". I think above anything, that would be the first thing I would fix.
hi, I have heard that many go to Green Bay, thats a drive for sure. that is a struggle if there is limited mental health providers, hopefully positive change is coming
I never considered the difficulties getting medical care or any kind of professional services. Living in a rural area does have more positives than negatives I believe. Love the kitties as they look so happy and comfortable. Thanks for the great videos!
hi! some have been asking me about healthcare access here and I was thinking oh yeah, it's a little different than city living, I agree with you on the more positives than negatives with living in a rural area, it sure is peaceful here! thank you for watching!
hi, I agree with you, some others commented that its a vent for my sewer and so water/ice/snow is just fine, thank you for confirming! hope you are having a great day
Hi Marie, you were spot on about healthcare in the U.P. My experiences were based out of Newberry, great regional hospital and clinic there. When it came to vision, it was either the Soo or Petoskey. Cardiologist was Traverse City. Dentist, well that was an issue and a long wait. Even now in the Detroit area, I run into wait times where I end up going to urgent care clinics instead or telehealth. I kind of wish your method of snow removal didn’t mean going on the roof. Sometimes it’s good to have a layer of snow up there to insulate things! Take care, happy shoveling!!!😊
Hi, for vison soo or petoskey are long drives from Newberry, thats good you had regional care there. Traverse City for the Cardiologist is far, nice trip though! I wonder is MI is a state with less healthcare access, now im going to dive into some research.
The "exhaust pipe" is likely your vent stack for the plumbing drains. Any rain/snow that gets in it just goes down the drain. However, it could get plugged by leaves/etc. so putting some sort of screen over it wouldn't be a bad idea. They make screened termination caps for PVC pipe. Just have to get the right size.
While you were on the roof, you mentioned the water heater fired up...if it's a tank type, when it needs replacement, seriously consider a tankless water heater. More efficient in that you're not heating water in storage; more efficient since it looks like you're on propane. We put one in 15 (!) years ago, and it's terrific! Only maintenance is a yearly backflush... Can't run out of hot water as it's always "on demand." Don't get quite the temperature rise in the winter as in warmer weather, but it's certainly the best we've had. Used to replace tank heaters every 5-7 years, and we have a softener...
hi! every time I replace a water heater I switch to tankless, they are good, I like that they are smaller and take up a lot less room. thanks for sharing!
You are spot on about healthcare in the UP. I live about a half hour from Marquette. You would think UP Health System in Marquette would meet all your needs, but you'd be wrong. For my cancer treatment I chose to drive to Green Bay for better treatment options. It was an inconvenience, but the right decision. As you stated dental options are limited not because of lack of dentists. Sometimes they simply aren't taking new patients or they don't accept your insurance plan. Thanks for the insight.
hi, you are close to Marquette, its such a beautiful city! but you are right, Marquette doesn't have all the things needed for healthcare access. I have heard many go to Green Bay, the insurance plans we have in my family, don't cover us in WI, what a difficult thing to have to manage when you are going through cancer treatment and you have to be that far from home. I can imagine that was a very huge undertaking for you and your family. it's so interesting about the dentist, you are right, so many in the area said nope, no new patients, or we don't accept insurance. its like well okay then. thank you for sharing your experience
I must admit that I never thought about medical access, but I see it is something to deal with. And I see the cats are doing what they do best, lounging.
you are right about that, the cats are doing what they do best! yes, I was surprised with some of the wait lists but thankfully have worked out mostly how to navigate it up here, hope you are having a wonderful day!
Depending on how far east in the UP you are, when it comes to surgeries you might be able to go down through Manistique/Escanaba/Menominee to go down to Green Bay. I think they have several hospitals down there and there's pasty shops along the way which is always an important consideration for any UPer.
hi, you are correct, I know that some people go to Green Bay, all of our insurance plans don't cover us there though since its a different state, thank you for the information!
Hello marie. Be careful on that roof, especially with snow and ice. Yea health care is critical for my family member with MS. Luckily we have the doctors, hospitals, and pharmacy's nearby. Within 15 minutes either way. What about if you have an emergency, is there nearby medical help I hope? That's good you have no critters in the attic. The neighbors house 2 doors from me had raccoons and they ate some of the electrical and it caught fire. I love that ponytail with your hair. Stay warm, we got some single digit weather coming. Talk to ya soon joe.
hi! yes, its slippery up there so I try to be safe! I was thinking about how challenging is can be for some with more complex health care needs, its great you have close access to all the things you need for your family! if there is an emergency it is a problem, that is why I am here now while my family is healthy , if their health declines this can't be a year round spot because I gotta make sure they have all the things they need. oh my, that sounds like quite the raccoon situation for your neighbors, yikes! I am not excited about the neg temps, it is so hard for me to be out long to clear the snow. stay warm too!
Even in a city, it's tough to get timely medical appointments. It's crazy. When my 92-year-old mom's doctor retired, it took us 4 months to get an appointment with a new doctor, and that was after many "rejections" 'cause they weren't taking new patients. Luckily, she didn't "need" a doctor during that time, but it's tough out there. Thankfully, it's only a 10-minute drive to the doctor now, but our dentist is 45 minutes away. Savannah, GA, so no snow!
It is tough, I am so glad your mom didn't need a doctor in the meantime but healthcare access is not easy to navigate and its a shame. Savannah is such a beautiful city, you are right no snow makes the drive a bit easier!
I was waiting for your "Roof Ridge Tango!" Lol. Healthcare can be challenging for sure. I don't ever go to the doctor or dentist. 😮 I finally broke down and got an eye appointment for next week (90 minutes away). Oh, my favorite thing to eat after hard scooping. Heat up some applesauce, toast your favorite bread, healthy layer of peanut butter on the toast. Spoon on the hot applesauce and sprinkle cinnamon on top! So scrumptious.
hi!! I didn't dance because I fell on the roof lol, I have membrane on part of it and I just slipped right on down the roof, but a snow pile saved me from falling all the way off hehe. I have heard that many don't go to the doctors here for various reasons, one of my friends uses indigenous medicine and I have enjoyed learning about it. I hope your eye appointment goes well and that you enjoy that long drive. the temps are going to drop soon, those below zero temps are hard. I will try the applesauce, peanut butter and toasted english muffin with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top this evening, thank you for sharing, it does sound delicious!
@marieintheUP I'm glad you survived your fall. If you caught that on camera, you could have rolled off the snow bank, jumped up, and did it little dance. Next time. Lol. I have pretty hard feelings against the medical industry in general. My wife would kick me in the pants to take better care of myself, but now I don't have her to keep up with my routine health stuff. I have a cataract, and I need to see well for my work. So, gotta go! We're forecasted -14 on Monday/Tuesday. 🥶 I use thick fleece neck gators to keep my face from freezing off. They cover your neck, ears, and your face, just below the eyes. English muffin is perfect! Enjoy! 😋
@@Yooperglide what do you do for work (only share if you are comfortable). the english muffin was so good, nice combo with the apple sauce and pb- if you like to add pb to things, I recommend adding pb and bacon to a burger, best thing ever. a burger and marshmallow fluff is also good. I have some fleece neck gators, I like them, I will be wearing them when we get to -'s here. not excited for those cold temps. I say get the cataract surgery, my family member just had that done last year and they can see so much better now (in both eyes). I side with your wife on taking care of your health. Schedule that annual physical. I can understand you have lost hope with the medical industry. I hope you reconsider though
@marieintheUP I have a home based business. I'm a contracted electrical component supplier for a company in New Jersey. They manufacture pharmaceutical dissolution equipment. So, my eyes are pretty crucial to building stuff. I had a cataract removed a few years ago in my right eye. Now the left eye is ready. I also having issues in my right eye. Hopefully they get it all sorted out. 😵💫 I'll have to try the PB on a burger. Sounds interesting. I don't have medical insurance, so I just live, and hope for the best. Lol
@@Yooperglide very cool, yep you need your eyes for sure. i hope they get all the issues with your cataracts sorted as well. let me know if you try the pb on a burger, now I want one lol I will make one tonight after snowblowing again. stay warm!
Definition of Irony: Although owning a roof rake and could be standing on the safe ground, Marie in the U.P. talking about access healthcare services and doctors while up on an icy roof clearing snow. My dear lady you're going to drive a me crazy! ;-P I'm interested in what you'll work out with the insulation and roof.
lol I didn't even think about it like that, so funny, you are right, it is ironic hehe. thankfully I was okay on the roof, but I am looking forward to the attic being insulated and the roof being set up properly so I can just fondly remember all my fun times on the roof, will keep you posted on the insulation/roof!
Hope the medical care you find take care of the family. Around here my regular PCP is going downhill. All they want to do anymore is weigh you & take your blood pressure . They will give you the regular medicine they have you on but anything else they send you to a specialist . It's a money game !! Take care.
The closest that I have been to the U.P. is putting on my yooper chook. I love that hat.😁 Have a great day, Marie. Attic ventilation, along with insulation, is very important.
They used to exist in Marquette until a hedgefund ran conglomerate took over MGH. As a. Life long Yooper, best advice I can give you is get yourself a real tractor with a blower. Either a Kubota or John Deere. The Kubota dealer in the Marquette area is useless but the JD dealer is very good
Cute cats. This if the first time that I heard the lower MI called the mitten. I already knew it resembled one, but to hear it was unexpected. My wife and I live in the NW Chicago burbs. We fortunately do not need to drive far for healthcare.
the cats are so cute right! so interesting you have never heard the LP called the mitten, Ive heard that my whole life. my family in Chicago call it the mitten too. have a good day!
Hate to hector you Marie, but when you do the roof whether asphalt or metal Always Use Ice and Water Shield. It's expensive ($225 for a 225 Square foot roll or a buck a square foot ). However, it is The Best product for preventing roof leaks. Just something to research/check out. 🙂
hi! that is great advice, I appreciate it so much! I will talk to the roofing company about it, because I don't want any more leaks, or ice dams. thank you!!
Here in central va for medical we get a year and a half wait only to see a PA I have't seen a real doctor in years As for dentist good luck, you stand a better chance having a tooth pulled at the ER than getting on a dentist list.
oh my, that is bad, worse than here. yikes, that is not good that you are dealing with lack of healthcare access, and I thought the waitlist here was long.
In the next year the aca, and Medicaid are going to go through major changes , health care in the UP and northern Michigan is going to change , i sure hope you have group health insurance
They have web doctor’s appointments now, IF you don’t have to go in. There should be urgent care facilities in local strip malls. Get an insurance plan that would cover some of that. They can draw blood and send it in. They can send you prescriptions in the mail, ups, fed ex, etc. You’re on propane, which is expensive. Not seeing a wood stove. It’s messy but get one. I’d even get a wood furnace. That electric “fireplace heater” is expensive to run. I recommend an electric mattress pad and an electric throw blanket. Biggest advice is still look and ask around. See what you neighbors are doing. Ask them how they like their set up. They’ve already been through the learning curve.
hi, I don't have a family member with MS, I had talked about someone who let me know in the comments that they were a caregiver to someone with MS, maybe that is where the confusion is?
Massive Shortage of Doctors in the U.S. and especially Veterinarians for our Pets. Surgeries can take Months to Schedule. I Live in a Huge Medical Teaching City. 👍
I should have discussed the vet, oh my goodness, you are right, i have had such a difficult time with finding a vet in the area that has time for new patients, it is so hard. you are right about the shortage of medical professionals all over the US, it is an ongoing issue.
hi! thank you for letting me know, I noticed some snow/ice inside the pipe and was thinking hey, why are the others covered but not this one? I have so much to learn about roofs, insulation and the vents still :)
UA-cam this old house ice dams.... Ice dams are caused by heat escaping from your house through the attic out the roof. If you don't have enough insulation in your attic that's where you should start.... Good luck 😊
hi! I have watched that yt on the this old house ice dams, its a good one! you are right, I don't have enough insulation, that is why i am working with the insulation company to have insulation added to my attic along with ventilation for air flow, I am looking forward to having that all done!
@marieintheUP Sounds good..... In the mean time you might try the salt sock trick or elese clear a channel for the water to drain I wish you all the best 👍
lol you make me smile! those pasties sure are good, now I want one hehe, sometimes they do sell out, especially in the summer but thankfully no wait lists ; )
@@marieintheUP Top Notch........When the Pasties run out in the U.P. forget healthcare life is over..........Life is over. Keep smiling, the U.P. is worth the wait for summer. And learning to fish is fun have fun.
@@vincentdsnt I love fishing! haha you are right, when the pasties run out, it is over. UP is sooo nice in the summer, and spring and fall, I love it here!
It's becoming a problem around here in the Eastern UP for sure, most of the private practice doctors have sold their soul to My Michigan Health and they are the perfect example of a medical industrial complex, in the last 6 years I've had 3 dentists retire, now have to go below the bridge for that. Living here is getting harder to justify.
sometimes I scare myself on the roof, but so far so good, once I get the attic properly insulated I don't think I will have to get on the roof to shovel snow anymore
We have several medical individuals, and Doctors, in my family. Thus thru my experience, the Insurance companies are putting out those medical private practices. Very, very unfortunate to say the least. Best of luck!
it is very unfortunate, I had to switch health insurance providers this year for my family due to the old major health insurance company making it so difficult for the medical offices to get paid for covered services they finally said no, we aren't working with you health insurance company any more, so we switched because the doctors and their great staff, they are why we go there, not because of the health insurance company.
Hello Marie, I'm well, and hope that you are also. The pipe behind you looked like the vent pipe for the drain lines of your sewer. It doesn't have a vent cap on it, they don't put a cap on them. It's 50F here in S.E. Nebraska. I was sitting out on my deck, soaking up the sun. Still no snow, maybe on Wednesday. I live in a large city, and I still have to make appointments to my doctor, he is usually booked a month out. The dentist only a week or two. Do you have a battery operated leaf blower? It might work well on the roof, to clear the light fluffy snow. Be careful on the slick roof, I don't want to see a video of you sliding off the roof onto a pile of snow.
hi! im glad you are doing well! i'm good but so tired from all this snow removal hehe. thanks for the info on the vent pipe. 50 degrees and some evening sun, you are living the life! its supposed to get very cold soon so maybe it will bring snow your way! its crazy how long the wait times can be fore medical care, I never had to wait before moving here. I have a leaf blower but its heavy and I have no clue how I would get it on my roof safely. I slide off the roof onto the piles of snow all the time, on purpose, its how I get off the roof, it's fun and I make sure to do it safely! keep me posted on if you get any snow!
4 light powder snow I use leaf blower, I have $20 amazon electric leaf blower, looks cool on video leaf blowing snow :). Healthcare and dentists operate same way auto mechanics do. There is only 1% of auto mechanics that are honest people and who do not rip off those that don't know anything about vehicles. Rest of them put a Band-Aid on the problems and don't fix the source of the problems. Healthcare industry goes way back to WWII. Wish I could go into details but this is not the place for me to explain.
ive tried the leaf blower, I have a large gas blower, and it doesn't clear the snow at all, guess this snow here is too heavy, glad it works for your needs!
because it would wreck my shingles, it clears snow a little too well. also its very heavy and I would fall off the roof using it lol. how do you clear the snow from your roof?
It's kind of ironic talking about healthcare access while on top of a icy roof. Good luck on the ice damn issue. Dealing with it myself but it's due to a idiot roofer not putting ice guard on when they redid the roof. And no cap on the exhaust pipe, They allow air into the system when the water is draining so that there can't be any suction which would prevent the the water from flowing or suck the water out of the p-traps that keep the sewer gases from getting into the house.
you are right about the irony of me being on an icy roof talking about healthcare access hehe. I can't wait to not have to deal with the ice dams any more. I am sad to hear you are also dealing with ice dams, not good. I wonder if I have ice guard on my roof, I will have to ask to find out. thank you for the info on the exhaust pipe, i'm having fun learning all these new things about my roof and attic and plumbing, I hope you get your ice dam situation fixed soon, so much extra work dealing with them.
you need a snow "pillow" while relaxing on the roof. If the snow is "light" I use my leaf blower. Many issues, or challenging items when you reside in the UP, I did not wish to mention medical and dentistry as you are being overwhelmed. You need tee shirts made....."those damn ice dams".
I do need a tee that says "those damn ice dams" lol its perfect! others have mentioned a slow blower, mine is very heavy and large and I am not sure how I would get it on the roof safely, or use it on the roof safely, but maybe to blow snow from my walkway. hope you are having a wonderful week!
You should not go right to the shingles you're going to break them if you do that all year long going right to your shingles you're going to have to replace your shingle sooner you should only clean your roof when there is a foot of snow on your roof
hi Lucas, do you have a dalmatian or you just like them? I appreciate you trying to help, I am aware of how being on a roof can damage shingles, sadly the water coming inside my roof and running down my walls due to the ice dams is more important to address at this time. I have plans with a roofing company in the spring to fix any damage done to the shingles, question for ya, do you live in the UP?
hi, others said it shouldn't be covered or anything added to it as the snow can then collect on top and cause issues, thank you for your input, hope you have a great day
Okay so you live in the up so you're 2 hours away which would take you into either Petoskey or Gaylord you would probably get access to one of the healthcare units down there and also the dentist you know Petoskey has got a great dental program there also the Sue has great Dennis great healthcare options and you also have the reservation
hi, yes you are right, many of the places we go to for medical care are in Petoskey and Gaylord, there is a good dental program there with a lot of medical students who recently graduated which is great!
Be careful on that roof. My advice to you is trust no one in the medical system. Keep detailed logs of every phone call you make to any health care provider or insurance company representative. Keep all bills and payment receipts.
I feel like a fraud but I have found myself saying Eh sometimes lol, I am not a Yooper yet, I still have so much to learn, but its coming, someday I will def be saying the Eh and not Y'all!
@ we roared all the way up to -9, I’m being a wimp and waiting until it gets to zero, before I go out and clean up what fell yesterday. Mid week back above freezing 🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@bradmoyer9737 I'm doing the same thing before I go out to snow blow, those neg temps are really challenging, they zap my energy quickly, we have a very cold week ahead

Thanks, it's nice to hear from someone who understands! thank you for watching!
This is a very relevant vlog for me. I’m considering a move to the UP. Thanks!
hi, that makes me so happy to hear, let me know if you have any questions, I really love living here and so does my family!
Your so versatile! And love that 1000 watt smile! Happy Weekend dear heart!! 😎
happy FriYaY! thanks for stopping by and saying hi, hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
Take care.
hi, thanks for watching!I have brand new heat cables on my roof, they don't melt the ice dams though, but they help a little. stay warm.
Have fun snowmobiling.. be safe ✌️
@@riversandcoffee wow a pizza oven from italy sounds very nice! we will see how mine turns out hehe
Propane generator would probably work better for her, especially with already having a propane supply for the water heater.
No on the exhaust pipe cover...
hi, appreciate the information, thank you!
The white pipe is your plumbing drains vent line. Its kind of like the valve on a gas can. If you didn’t have them your plumbing would not drain well due to the vacuum that is being created without one.
hi, I was wondering how they worked, thank you for the information, its pretty cool how it keeps the plumbing working!
@ i had a squirrel go down the pipe and come up through a toilet. True story. Ive since extended mine up another foot. Id go higher but didn’t want these super long pipes all over like flag poles.
@@MichiganTim luckily I haven't had that happen
Good day😊 yes health and medical can be an issue especially in rural/remote areas 😢
hi! thanks for watching and for your comment, i hope that more healthcare options will be opening in the UP but i'm not sure, its just my hope lol
The angle is cool...it makes everything look more real. Like one is next to the action. 😊
that is awesome, I like your outlook!
Rain soaked snow is a lot heavier.
hi! I don't think I can get the scooper on the roof safely sadly, its very heavy. thank you for the tips!
Like- mental health care concerns❤️
THE EXHAUST PIPE IF PROBABLY A VENT FOR YOUR TOILETS, IF WATER GOES DOWN IT, IT KEEPS GOING DOWN YOUR SEWER...
hi, I agree with you, some others commented that its a vent for my sewer and so water/ice/snow is just fine, thank you for confirming! hope you are having a great day
All Good Marie... Thanks "Very Much" for this Video ';-)
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this advice, I'm going to look into those screen caps to see what I can find!
in those temps the screens could trap condensation and freeze, please don't do that
While you were on the roof, you mentioned the water heater fired up...if it's a tank type, when it needs replacement, seriously consider a tankless water heater.
Thanks for the info....
You're welcome!
I'm down towards detroit we have wait list also hard to get an appointment I don't have to drive far only difference.
interesting, maybe its a MI thing then? I have never had to wait over a year to get into a dentist or 4-6 months to get into a family doctor.
Love your ponytail.
I live in the western U P never had any problems with health care Marquette's Cardiac service was rated in the top 10 few years ago.
Lol
@@Yooperglide very cool, yep you need your eyes for sure. i hope they get all the issues with your cataracts sorted as well. let me know if you try the pb on a burger, now I want one lol I will make one tonight after snowblowing again. stay warm!
Buy the blower that uses the same batteries as your snow blower and use it on the roof. If the snow is light it will move at least 6" easily.

Attic ventilation, along with insulation, is very important.
they are good hats! I have a red one, going to need it soon, getting some cold weather. take care!
They used to exist in Marquette until a hedgefund ran conglomerate took over MGH. As a. Life long Yooper, best advice I can give you is get yourself a real tractor with a blower. Either a Kubota or John Deere. The Kubota dealer in the Marquette area is useless but the JD dealer is very good
I appreciate you sharing your perspective on healthcare and the tractor recommendations for snow removal, thank you!
Good afternoon Sunshine!☺

Very nice my dear friend ❄️♥️❄️♥️❄️♥️🙋🏻♀️

Vent Pipes have NO Issues with getting Moisture inside. 👍
hi! thank you so much, I wasn't sure why it didn't have a cap on it, I'm glad I asked you awesome people!

You scare me when you're on the roof! One slip and things break and hurt! 😢
sometimes I scare myself on the roof, but so far so good, once I get the attic properly insulated I don't think I will have to get on the roof to shovel snow anymore
Heated wire for roof ice dams.
hi, I have the heated wire. Its only doing so much, not sure why its not working as well as I hoped. thank you for watching!
Marquette has a large hospital doesn’t it?
Get the attic insulated and put on a metal roof and be done with that snow clearing.
interesting, hadn't thought of that, thanks!
We have several medical individuals, and Doctors, in my family. Thus thru my experience, the Insurance companies are putting out those medical private practices. Very, very unfortunate to say the least. Best of luck!
it is very unfortunate, I had to switch health insurance providers this year for my family due to the old major health insurance company making it so difficult for the medical offices to get paid for covered services they finally said no, we aren't working with you health insurance company any more, so we switched because the doctors and their great staff, they are why we go there, not because of the health insurance company.
you can drive down to green bay, wi for some healthcare?
some people do that
Good talk! Meet ya on the roof next week😆
Sounds like a plan! ; )
Finding specialists can be a problem. I have to drive to major cities in Michigan to see my neurologist like Grand Rapids.
its hard right, driving to Grand Rapids, thats a drive and seeing a neurologist is not optional so what a difficult position to put someone in.
Health care in general is suffering, not just the UP. We drive over 70 miles to Marquette for our medical care.
yes it is its hard to navigate, thanks for sharing your experience in the UP
Love your Positive Attitude so keep it up and Ignore the Haters that Don’t have a Life or Anything going for them. 👍🙏
Why don't you use your electric shovel on the roof ? so much easier
because it would wreck my shingles, it clears snow a little too well. also its very heavy and I would fall off the roof using it lol. how do you clear the snow from your roof?
You look so quiet all sprawled out on the roof that's quite a predicament I have to drive that far for your medical
Sometimes spell check changes my words
spell check strikes again, hope you are having a good week!
The exhust pipe ...just put a T on it !
hi, others said it shouldn't be covered or anything added to it as the snow can then collect on top and cause issues, thank you for your input, hope you have a great day
Hi Angel 👼
Okay so you live in the up so you're 2 hours away which would take you into either Petoskey or Gaylord you would probably get access to one of the healthcare units down there and also the dentist you know Petoskey has got a great dental program there also the Sue has great Dennis great healthcare options and you also have the reservation
hi, yes you are right, many of the places we go to for medical care are in Petoskey and Gaylord, there is a good dental program there with a lot of medical students who recently graduated which is great!
@marieintheUP 15,000 people have moved into Wexford Wexford Gaylord and all of the north of the 45th
Be careful on that roof. My advice to you is trust no one in the medical system. Keep detailed logs of every phone call you make to any health care provider or insurance company representative. Keep all bills and payment receipts.
Cant wait for the day that Marie substitutes "Eh" for "Y'all"
I feel like a fraud but I have found myself saying Eh sometimes lol, I am not a Yooper yet, I still have so much to learn, but its coming, someday I will def be saying the Eh and not Y'all!

@@marieintheUP Therapy for me is a cup of coffee, and planning next years flower designs and landscaping changes in my head. Good week to you 🙏🏻
