Get yourself a K&N intake. The sound is so worth it! And on road tests watching the IAT signal show no increase in intake air temps. That induction noise brings the car to life!
A great summary of the madness some of us are afflicted with! Your videos have helped inspire me to do some of the mods, including the centre console delete (love it) and changing the exhaust (stock is just too quiet), and the Continental radio is in my plans. I've also done the RSS semisolid engine mounts and that's the one mod I'm less happy with -- there's some noticeable NVH around 2800-3000rpm that's not an issue on a good drive but annoying for everyday use. Thanks for the update and hope to see more videos soon
Indeed, you might call such an affliction a ‘problem’! Interesting feedback on the RSS mounts, it’s the first time I’ve heard of that kind of invasive NVH into the cabin. They didn’t add any noticeable NVH to mine. Perhaps they’ll settle over time?
I'm on that RSS fence right now and considering a C2 Cabriolet has a stiff structure, concerned it might be too much...thanks for expressing your concerns.
Great run through of the mods & costs. I've got GT3 seats & the Equipment cage so did the 'rear floor mat delete' mod too, great to know i removed 800g! :-D
Good video....I like that you are honest about the costs and the usefulness or otherwise of the mods, and also the weight saving as I've got a C4s so want to reduce the weight....also the other 'how to' vids are really helpful....
great to see you back, looking well. I've done the steering wheel, the exhausts, the gear knob and about to do the engine mounts except I've gone of design 911's own semi solid ones..and a full engine and suspension rebuild as I had limited service history!
I enjoyed that, thank you and it’s given me some ideas. Just doing my own bits to my 996 and have just added lowering springs and 15mm spacers all round and a x74 geo. Loving the new stance. Keep the videos coming 👍
Great video! A 996 in white is awesome! Always nice to hear what’s in other Porsche fans minds 😅 Got a C2 3.6 manual myself since a month. I am trying hard not to indulge myself in too many mods. Planning to keep it original, besides the Ohlins r/t installed that made a great car totally amazing😊 Totally agree with keeping the brakes quite stock will suffice even on track. Put on race/sports pads and racing fluid and u r good to go. Tracked my previous Cayman S several times and proper brake skills out do bigger brakes any day.
Welldone with the channel rob very interesting topics that you have covered well , some i plan to do myself. Hope to see your car in the flesh one day ! If you ever go to a porsche meet let the masses know 👍🤗
Great Video Rob. Very inspiring and some great 'trick' bit'n bobs' to seek out. I've already removed my redundant 6 cd changer and looking to delete the rear wiper in quest of weight reduction. My 996 c4 is a minter like yours and I'm happy to do these mods asI love it. All the best.
Great video very informative I’m hoping to get my first Porsche 996 c2 cab tip, this year I know not everyone likes autos but I’m lazy wagon driver that changes gear enough already
Nice to see you and the car again! Btw your wife will still hear that " few thousand pounds " mate. Car is a really nice example. Only difference i would have done is a original 911 badge in silver vs that large decal at the back.
Great video. You so remind me of myself with my car addiction! I am in New Hampshire USA. I have a 2005 996 c4s. Your car looks great and you are very tasteful with your modifications. Nicely done! I think I will go for the custom wheels at some point. I don't mean to be one of those that tells people they do things wrong just wanted to tell you about the solid engine mounts. Lots swear by those so I am sure they improve the car. In the us we have flat 6 innovations who is like Hartech, top knotchengine builders. They have videos that show a car dyno runs before and after solid engine mounts and you can see how it robs power at the higher revs from the timing reduction. I can share the video if you would like to see. Doesn't matter though. If you like them that is all that matters! I am actually getting my motor built this winter by flat 6 to a 4.0L. They do head work balancing and lots more. Point being, I know all about spending lots on mods! Keep up the great videos and good work! Take care.
Hey Rick, my first 996 was a 2003 C4S in seal grey - great machine - my uncle still has that car. I think I've seen that video and personally i was sceptical as i beleive the car wasn't running a stock engine and it wasnt on a stock map, as mine is. So the jury is out on that. However I do subscribe to the reality that every change is a comporomise with +ives and -ives attached to it. The positive of semi-solids for street driving for me seems to be huge in terms driving enjoyment, so as you say it is a personal choice. Perhaps i need to get mine on a dyno?!
@@TheThrottleCable hey that would be good content for the channel! Flat 6 innovations in the US is the company that everyone looks to, they know the most about these motors in the US. Jake their owner will not let a customer buy one of his motors and put on a car with semi solid mounts. He will not allow his motor to be robbed of power from anything. He won't let people use aftermarket intakes either as they all rob power as well. I trust this guy because he really knows these cars. I think that is a great idea though, take your car to a dyno and run back to back runs with and without the semi solids! I would love to see that! Hey enjoy the car, you built a beautiful car.
@@RicknWRX it is an interesting debate. It is quite easy to determine for yourself what’s actually going on, on road, with Durametric, (or similar equipment) both with timing and intake air temps. Guys have shown that the semi solid mounts don’t retard timing, and that intake temps don’t increase with a K&N intake and that more air is flowing past the MAF. A 911 on a dyno isn’t getting appropriate air flow so intake temps rise in that environment with the K&N. For me personally a tactile and visceral experience is paramount in a sports car, and was definitely worth the extra research.
@@adriangale I agree with you, good point on the dyno testing. Regardless though, with the exhaust where it is having an open filter without an air box cant be too good. Apparently the 997 3.8 air box with a k&n drop in is the best. Works good for me as I have a gt2 wing. It has Air inlet that channels air into the snorkel from outside the car. I
@@adriangale I so wanted to get the semi solids but flat 6 innovations won't let me with their motor so u went with new oem. I will be getting my power from the motor build so I am happy there. There is so much conflicting information on all this out there for sure!
Hi Rob, good to see you’re back fella 👍 What’s your viewpoint on the short shift kits available? There’s your run of the mill £70 versions in the blue anodised finish ( not that you see that!) and then the Numex I think it is, replacement mech for about £500 You seem to have good opinions on the rest of the car, so I’m interested in your perspective chap please
Thanks Dave, the biggest improvement to the shift has been from the RSS mounts, i'd do motor mounts first if you haven’t as it really improves the precision. For mine with the Rennline gear knob you can actually adjust the shift knob height, so that allowed me to shorten the throw by setting it low reducing the leverage. If I didn’t have those, the magpie effect would have me looking at the numeric or coolerworx - things of beauty. Then you’re down a rabbit hole and thinking of changing the cables too. The ebay specials seem to get mixed reviews, I’ve not had a go with one, however bang for buck I think it might be worth a go if short shift is what you want to achieve. I also believe there is a chap on the 911uk.com website who improves them with new bushings which is worth a look. You might also be able to pick up a used 997 shorter throw linkage off ebay - also worth considering.
Great to see the 996 develop over time, Its come a long way since I saw it a year ago.
Thanks James, it does a good job of filling the GT3 void in my life!
Thanks for the update, your a true Porsche fanatic! 😀👍 The wheels look great and the decals add a nice styling to the car.
Thanks David! I’m really enjoying the car. Booked in for its annual service tomorrow so hopefully all is ok! 👍
Thank you for producing this great content.
Cheers fullwerks!
Great update man. Gotta love the half cage🙂 I got a rennline towhook too just so I could put the GoPro on it hehe
Thanks! I’m glad I’m not the only one to buy it based on GoPro-ability! 😂

Very glad to see you back! The car is still fantastic of course.
