The honeycombs are coated in metals like palladium. Those metals act as catalysts to lower the activation energy for the reactions: 2 CO + O2 - > 2CO2 and 2NO - > 2N + O2. The reason for them being honeycombs is to maximize the surface area so as much of the pollutants as possible can be eliminated. I also wanna say that the metals you trew in the trash are pretth scarse meaning your cat would have been worth about 550-1000 dollars.

That’s what I did sold my oem headers with cats from my is300 and got 850 from it and my new headers were basically free

its because you went with the ark grip, isr race exhaust is where you get the loud sounds from, even adding a test pipe
Catalytic converters are actually pretty neat. They basically get rocket hot from the exhaust gasses and then the coating of catalyzing metals (usually including platinum, iridium, palladium, etc) helps to not only burn off unburned fuel, but to also burn off soot and convert more volatile greenhouse gasses into less volatile versions by assisting the breaking of covalent bonds in the molecules. The smaller the passages in the ceramic matrix, the more surface area you can expose the gasses to and the more effective the contact between the catalyzing metals and the exhaust gasses can be. If you CAN run a catalytic converter (and there are companies out there that make oversized, high-flow catalytic converters) then you probably should. It's better for emissions and the environment. Plus, it means that you can reinstall your downstream heated O2 sensors without them throwing error codes at you all the damn time. If you're going to daily a tuned car, I highly recommend finding and using some of these cats.

I heard that catless o2 housing on the gens just makes you turbo spool a little faster and gives pops/flames, but yeah not much increase on the sound department
I disagree I installed a o2 housing on my gen and it was so loud that I had to tone it back down.

If theres no tune the car wont pop. You can get like one pop MAYBE TWO if you get the o2housing and fully straight. But it wont pop pop without a tune
@@brandon061400 idk man, my buddy's 2.0t pops alot, he doesn't even have an o2 housing yet. only catless DP, and ISR single exit, no tune.
My 3.8 pops like a madlad, but that's a different story.
The metals on those are super expensive probably would’ve paid for a cat delete

A way to add some top end power is to change the intercooler piping, hyundais piping expands after peak boost so that you loose some power

Had a genny and had a similar setup to this and paid for a 3inch 02 housing and found that it actually changed the sound a lot! It was basically straight piped with 1 big-ish muffler tho so maybe that's why :) keep up the great content, love seeing chris in the vlogs

By the way, despite the looks of the fine mesh; if your cat is not clogged they aren't much of a restriction until you're making a Lot of power. Also, it works because that honeycomb material is FULL OF PRECIOUS METALS :D that's why they get stolen so much. Those metals react with unburned fuel and cause it to decompose or burn completely, so unburnt fuel doesn't escape the exhaust (as well as reacting something in the gasses to reduce nitrogen oxide)

Trust me when I say this I did the same thing in my car. But I then changed it out for a propper decat pipe and the sound was completely different and better. As the hollow housing causes weird effects so actually getting rid of that and making your own straight pipe for example will 100% improve the sound more, and potentially a bit louder too
Plus you just threw away an expensive cat in scrap which you could if made good profit from

I have an engine suggestion. The Ford duratec 2.5l engine is dirt cheap at like $200 for one with like 100k on it and with a turbo and some upgrades it can easily make 400hp. There's not a huge ammount of aftermarket support but they are super easy to tune if you know what you are doing and an amazing budget engine.
Idk if it's just my speakers but the turbo definitely sounds a lot louder without the cat, I hope you stick a go-pro above the exhaust next track day to see if there's any flames, plus it'll probably sound cool too.

You have to break in the exhaust for a week or 2 hard pushing it. i did that and now my system pops like crazy. i run the same set up btw. just need a tune now
My vote is still in for swapping in a stock 3.8L V6 from a salvage yard and throwing on one of the supercharger kits. It should fit in the engine bay, since I doubt they bothered to change any of the stamping dies between the 2.0L Turbo and the 3.8L NA V6, so I'm betting it's just that the engine mounts are different. That engine with the supercharger makes 450HP, which is plenty when you no longer need to rev the crap out of it to get to a usable power band to keep the rear traction broken.

Sounds better to me! I have a fully straight piped bk1 2.0 genny aswell. Your car sounds a bit more quite than mine because your exhaust has the double mufflers. My catback only has a resonator with no mufflers. When I got my isr performance 02 housing it made a big difference for me. Your mufflers are stopping most of your cool exhaust noises👍

Should have got the tomie bro... By far the best sounding exhaust for the 2.0 and it's dramatically less restrictive plus the titanium gives it some amazing pops. And also the 02 housing does make a difference when you jump up to 3" trust me. Lol

When you take your cat out, the car should be set back on the dyno bench. The o2 censor now receives many other values and dumps much more gasoline into your engine. So your engine is now running way too rich at low rpm and chances are very high that it is running too lean at high rpm. And if the car is on the dyno you can get more power. Greetings great vid
Honestly, Its just the type of exhaust that you have bro. Its great for a daily, no drone/rough idle & no rasp.
If you go with a single exit, you will definitely hear the difference for sure. Also are you tuned ? need a tune ..
wouldn't really recommend driving hard catless without a tune. custome tune will get it to shoot flames for sure and gain 70+hp/tq
I got a isr 02 housing and i have epic pop/Flames now and a bigger turbo sound
I went with a full isr race catback then sektes the cat a few months after on mine the sound wasn’t affected much but it pops more frequently

Manual boost controller time? Up that boost if you don’t care about the engine, stock injectors and engine will be good till 15psi safe tho

I bought the o2 housing and maybe it’s the way it flows or it’s that I have a different set up but I noticed power and sound for sure I have the use race exhaust tho and the ark is known to be pretty quiet

It sounds really decent. Even if the Cat delete didnt work out that different.
If you get the catless pipe it’s gonna be stainless steel which would flow better and the pipe you got now restricts the airflow as it goes bigger and back to small it just bounces around inside there. I’d say get the catless pipe and you’ll see some sound difference and also your baffles is what’s causing it to keep it that way
I deleted the secondary display up top and put my gauges there love seeing the genesis content

Robbie, if I wasn't mistaken, that Genesis came with 4B11T, which means it's the same engine as the Evo 10. So you can get aftermarket parts and build the engine
The genesis engine has a block more similar to the ralliart, not the evo. The internals aren’t as strong in the genesis and the turbo is a smaller single scroll compared to the larger twin of the evo

You can also use the heater to cool the car off if the car gets hot, just crank the heat up with the windows down and your temps will drop faster

What engine are you planning on putting in when yours blows up? I just bought a 3.8 Genesis coupe 2 months ago, and spun a bearing and the whole engine is scrap now, and I'm conflicted if I want a stock engine or something that can handle some boost (2010 genesis as well btw)
