“I Would Pay 1,000 Baht for These...” 🍲😋⛰🌧 Hmong Noodle Shop, and a Perfect Memory in Nan

- “We both live in Thailand, but we lead very different lives.”
Just a single perfect memory, a little snapshot from what the High-hill life is like in the furthest reaches of Northern Thailand.
Every moment that I can hang out up here is a blessing (and I’m still re-living these details right now) - It is very clear to me though, that visiting a place like this, and living here, those two things can be extremely different matters.
For both better and for worse, there are many reasons why development is slow to reach areas so far removed from roads, public networks, it is both my privilege and also a very personal reminder to think back on all the different things that our lives might call “convenience.”
Again, very much both for better AND for worse. But I know full well that in these situations is when I feel VERY much ALIVE!
It is not with regret though, but with a humor-filled joy, that I share this video today 🤣 Riding through days of rain, after climbing over 6,000 m meters of steep Northern Thai winding roads (3 days), honestly I think I might have paid close to 1000 baht for this bowl! Oh how delicious and perfectly welcoming this ONE beautiful bowl of noodles was...
A massive hug and cheers, and a salute of respect!, to the family that welcomed me up here today ❤️ 😊 . Baan ManeePruek, Nan, Northern Thailand! 🇹🇭 ⛰

What is so funny all the time?
Life actually, life!! :-) I once read a great quote, by FRIEDRICH Nietzsche, who is my favorite philosopher actually, and it’s become one of the quotes that I want to live by (and also might be the reason that he is my favorite philosopher)
“we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh.”
Truth is meaningless without emotion, and every negative emotion can be overcome by love, and laughter, or better yet both!! :)

It's great to hear your acceptance of other peoples situations and needs despite your own beliefs. Your thoughtfulness towards others is a wonderful trait. Great job!
Zenovoz, youre awesome, thanks for the understanding words, the supportive attitude, very happy to have you here!! Blessings, and a happy Tuesday to you!
The fact that you acknowledge that your videos need to be crisp and compact means you're almost there. Editing out stuff is the hardest part. Good luck. We all love you.
No drone shots? No problem!
No fancy post-production? No problem!
I watch Joel’s adventures (multiple times , each video) because it’s about the PEOPLE and the LAND( Mother Earth 🌍).
The videos convey honesty and it ALL comes from Joel and his inner conviction and strength, like to power and steer the trusted Steed, indeed. Thank you Joel!

Hey Joel! Don from New York City here. As always, I loved to video. I particularly liked your comments at the end about the use of single use plastics. It’s a good reminder to have balance in our thought processes particularly on a cultural level. That scenery is absolutely phenomenal and I love how you grasp it! Keep bringing this great material to us.
Love to see our brothers and sisters in Christ thanking God for a plentiful bounty, always give thanks, the the higher power for making life possible to live.

really beautiful to see that you pray before dinner, unfortunately many forgot to say thank you. God blessed you 💎💙❤💚🙏
I’m disabled, single use plastics are accessible and many disabled people rely on them, one example: some can’t drink without a bendable straw... thanks for sharing your views on this issue!
Debbie thanks so much for watching, and watching all the way to the end ;), AND for taking the time to write me!
Hey Joel, don't worry about your editing or your style of videos. I love your videos the way they are. We see the roads you travel, the places you end up and the people you meet. That's what we want. That's Joel. Keep on going!

Hi Joel. Please know this...your videos make my days better. I have thoroughly enjoyed every video of yours that I have watched, and I do believe I have watched most all of them! You are a special human being. Your acts of kindness and your thoughtful, humble nature make a positive difference in both those you interact with, and those of us who watch. Thank you for the vids, and love from Canada 🇨🇦 🙏🌸
Joel Bruner, making the world a little smaller. It's great to learn the differences between how people live, but, what I see, is that we are all very much the same (with different experiences).
Doug, what is goin on man?! Happy to see your name here, very astute comment as well. RIght on man!!!
The little boy watching you eat has true Mongolian features. Adorable children. What a simple life they have now.
Hi Christel! Thanks so much for watching, and I am happy to see you noticing little things in the video (that I may or may not have even noticed myself!!). Yes these kids were AWESOME, I just stayed around to laugh/smile at their playing for several more minutes after the camera was off, it was a very, very good place to be that day :) :)
Si many prayers for those people. It may seem difficult to us! Question. Is it difficult for them. Do they believe there poor? There langue seems to be live to me! You have blind faith! There's always food, hot beverage. Where ever you stop!
No plans. Just amazing faith! I've learned from you. I too can have this faith in the States. Where people see only the bad.
Give your faith. You shall receive it back!!
This less in you've given me. Brings tears of joy! Ones I can pass to others.
THANK YOU JOEL.
Plastics are a difficult topic. Very strong point in safety and cleanliness. In these communities!
Wow, Gloria!! What a message. These are just amazing... what support, what motivation!! I do not know the answer to your question, but your wondering is the right way to go - it does indeed seem that there are RICHES and Wealth in simplicity, and in enjoying each day for what each day brings. AMazing message, and thank you for your words - hope to see you for the next video, and until then - be well!! Be blessed.
Magnificent Scenery. Appreciate how your vlogs make the subscribers feel virtually right there. The compassion and joy in these awesomeness vlogs. Outstanding.
Joel! Watching your past videos, I noticed how innovative the Thailand people are! They know how to live off their lands, they know how to preserve nature in the hilly green mountains! If I lived there I would definitely honor those people, I would eat there! That lady made some yummy bowl of noodles! Thank you for showing this videos. Batman boy was a cool boy! He was cute!
Hmong are the nicest people! Thank you Joel, I can’t wait to return to Thailand again. Stay safe buddy.
You got it David, wow, I have had such cool experiences just around Laos and Thailand... cant wait to start intentionally learning about Hmong life and experiences in other countries soon as well!
@@JoelsTastyRide I have not traveled to Laos, but I’m looking forward to exploring there. But I have traveled extensively in Vietnam, my cousin lives there. Also American, many beautiful Hmong villages in the mountains there, the diversity of the food it’s wonderful between these close places.
@@JoelsTastyRide There's a lot of Hmongs here in the US after the Vietnam/Laotian war. A lot of them on the West coast (California & Oregon) in the Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan) and in the South (North Carolina, Oklahoma, Georgia).
Thank you very much for this bike-ride with you!!! As always it was so interesting. You take us to regions we would have never seen without you! And yes, you are right, there are always "two sides of a coin". And I agree totally with you regarding the plastic bottles. Much love, Maike
Wow! what a climbed kudos to you Joel .
Joel , your videos are more than the sharing of wonderful Thai people and Thailand , they are a reflection of a kind person with a loving heart ! Thank you as you are an inspiration to make me think that I could learn from what you share with your work ! Thank you again ...
Karl, Excellent as always to see your name here thank you so much for writing me and thanks for taking the time to cheer me on. I appreciate the good words about my videos very much, but yes as you can see, I just let the wonderful Thai people do most of the work in the videos, I’m just the lucky one to be around to capture it, to experience it :-) thanks for watching and hope to see you again for the next one. All the best, happy Thursday

Hi Joel, hope you have a good day can’t wait for your next video ❤️
Recalling the comment about Green and White Hmong language. The second half of your greeting is exactly the same as I have learned. The question is whether Now or Ya that proceeds it is an artifact or something else. A very interesting question that I hope all our Hmong freinds can explain. Fresno, CALIFORNIA
God bless you on all your wonderful adventures Joel. Greetings from Minnesota ☺️
Nice you are with the Hmoong village, I dont know too much about them other than they are traditional people
i like your videos a lot, your integrity and sincerity and your joy for life nature and people shows me that we are all buddhas and you are sure one

Good to see you are enjoying life in a very decent way!
Love from Bangladesh
Joel, you do a beautiful job with your adventures! Thank you 🙏
As for single use plastic water bottles... when I am in Thailand and many other countries, I hate it when I buy a bottle of water and they open it and then hand it to me. I know many places recycle the bottles with local water. I hate it, but I know I need to respect it... Now, I carry my sawyer filters😉

My people! So good to see you visiting Hmong folks on your trip. I think the carving says something along the lines of washing hands makes you happy? It’s a different dialect than I’m used to, I think.

Another great video as usual. If i were to meet Joel i would wear a wonder woman tee just so he can also call me by what i am wearing 😂 he's been calling the kids there by what hero/cartoon character they wear hahaha. The kid at 9:19 is literally in awe seeing a foreign person speaking their language.

Your bathroom break. It reads, wash hands and be happy. But in the Hmong Green dialect. That is common in Northen Thailand.
Great video Joel .
I enjoy all of your videos, especially the ones where we see “behind the scenes” type stuff others don’t normally take time to video. They’re lovely and have a special, personal quality.

such great exchange/sharing languages, respect and cultures...what is more important?
The villages look very much like what you see in the Western plateau

Hey Joel! I'm fairly new to your channel but I love how you see all the beautiful and positive things in everything that you see and experience. God bless you abundantly Joel! Stay safe and healthy!
just learned a month ago that I have two cousins-in-law (girl) married the people live in that village
both met their husbands when they attended a high school at a different city
the Hmong name for that city is "Zos Txooj Paj"
I have some relatives live (bandophraiwan) about 3~ hrs south of that village
i believe that they have a church that belongs to the C&MA
my family used to live in Wat Thamkrabot, Phra Phutthabat, Saraburi until the US accepted the 15,000~ Hmong refugees to the US in early to mid-2000s
about 5~ Hmong families still live there: either have a criminal record, don't want to emigrate, or moved from other places (closed refugee camp) by the Thai authorities
This is amazing!!! What a home! What a place to call home... Im so lucky to be able to catch something like this, and thank you for taking the time to write me :). Have a great day! Hope to see you for the next one!
Truly enjoyed what you said at the end of your video! Will keep on watching God bless you always.
The climate entices one really to have comfort food n good coffee!!!!
I love the raw video format of your videos. Other “fancy” videos are no different than travel advertisements and videos by big companies that only show fancy video editing. Your videos make me feel like I’m there with you, which I love. It shows the goods, bads, and the ugly, which is very realistic and I can actually feel what the place is really like. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. Without being able to be there myself, watching your videos gives me the chance to be there just by watching on my phone! Be safe and have fun brother!
