The memories of school discos and learning all the songs 1984 my first time going to Spain I wish could bottle the time in that year and stay there permanently
David, I agree. It is my favourite Feargal Sharkey song and NEVER gets any airplay now, only A Good Heart which I am sick of! The thing that makes this song EVEN BETTER is because Madness are performing with Feargal. Love Madness!
This sounds like the perfect mash up between Madness and The Undertones, and I love both bands!!! How have I never heard this, I love 'Good Heart' and 'Never, Never' and remember both of those great songs but this song just flew me by. So glad to have discovered it, Feargal Sharkey is a legend!!!
Written by Chas formerly of 'Madness' (he was still in the band when he wrote it) and this was released on the record label owned by Madness and they performed it with Feargal on Top Of The Pops! (without Suggs)
this song is dedicated to my late father as when at the tender age of 15 .I rang him to tell him I was pregnant .the n the reply came .get an abortion. you have ruined your life .my reply was I can't I am five months gone ..Well the story is if I did listen to my father . I wouldn't have a strapping 6'4 .34 year young man I love this song now as I did when it first came out wonder were is feargal now
Great great song. ive been a madness fan for years and never knew this was produced by them, thanks for the info and a great video. love the undertones.....
Fantastic song. Unfortunately by late 1984 when this was released Madness had lost their golden touch. If they would have released this a year before it would almost definitely been a top 10 hit. Still love this song.
This is really a Madness song, written by carl symth. You can hear Chas smash on the backing vocals.Would love to hear suggs do it. However Fergal does a fine job.
Interesting. With all the trumpets and brass it sounds very 80s to me. Pretty cool, it sounds good. The care-free antics in the kitchen are pleasant and the girl is nice-looking.
That's because it is Madness. They wrote it, played it, sang backing vocals and even appeared on TOTP as his backing band (footage on here somewhere but can't find it, bugger!) Feargal and Madness go way back. Madness' last single NW5 had a brilliant cover of The Undertones track Bittersweet on it. You should check it out. Brilliant.
I don't think this song ever made it to the US. It's the first time I'm hearing it. I used to listen to Rock over London hosted by Dean(?). Reminds me of my gf Susan a Briton whom I lived with here in Chicago in 1985. The best year of my life. Incidentally is Fergal Sharky dead?
Check out Mortimer and Whitehouse gone fishing...episode 2 series 3 Fergal makes an all too brief but highly memorable appearence at 12mins ....best 32 seconds of TV ever
I still can't work out if Feargal took himself seriously or not. If he did then he really ought to have consulted a choreographer because his movements were rather Ian Curtis to my eyes!
I often wonder how Madness would of done if they had of released this themselves. Whether they didn't think it was good enough, it didn't work out, or to showcase the new 'Zarjazz' label I'm not sure. Legend goes that it was a track that didn't make it on the '7' album in '81, so was going spare. The theme would of fitted in very well with 'Rise & Fall', but sound wise it was too upbeat. A demo of the Madness version is on here, but was there a full production ever made? Maybe someone knows...
Awesome song, but the video doesn't make much sense... What does the guy say at 2:40? Why is he thrown out at 3:26? And why are those two arguing at 4:04?
Hey it's just a bit of fun ... How else can you make a music video of your own song ... Does this mean that you would go in to a bar and play someone elses song and mime to your song, Now that's funny.
Ó Braonáin Indeed ...it's bloody pathetic...always suspected though that he was somewhat of a twat, even with the Undertones. These days he looks and sounds like a fucking politician ,moaning about fucking I-tunes taxes... My suspicions were proved right.
***** I dunno, I think compared to most artists he's a grown up. He retired in his early 30s and spent the last 20+ years working on the business side of the industry, developing artists, promoting the interests of UK music. Isn't that better than these ex-stars flogging a dead horse, endlessly doing reunions, trying to reignite their popularity and moaning about how it's not fair no one plays their records on the radio?
sorry... want to say that it is always a so great pleasure to hear Feargal Sharkey's so special voice - miss him !!!!!
The memories of school discos and learning all the songs 1984 my first time going to Spain I wish could bottle the time in that year and stay there permanently

It was Feargal's first solo hit and charted in October 1984,reaching number 23. I remember hearing it a few times back then.
Chas Smash from Madness wrote the song. That's why it has a nutty flavour.
Such a great song and even though he didn't write it, I cannot imagine anyone else singing this song.
After seeing this video I guess I know now what he looks like in a bad mood.
Chas Smash from Madness wrote it.
Paul done wrong Maria McKee
Sorry wrong song

1 of my favourite 500 records from the 80`s, fantastic

Great great song. ive been a madness fan for years and never knew this was produced by them, thanks for the info and a great video. love the undertones.....
We only listened to our father when we were growing up because we had to.
Fantastic song. Unfortunately by late 1984 when this was released Madness had lost their golden touch. If they would have released this a year before it would almost definitely been a top 10 hit. Still love this song.

This isn't available on Deezer for some reason
I like the yellow sooty LPG flames on the kitchen chargrill.

He's not dead as far as I'm aware. I think he is some form of environmentalist now.

Its a Madness song that they gave to fergal. Carl Symth wrote it. You can hear him on the backing vocals

Does anyone know if Langer & Winstanley produced this, sounds a bit more poppy/commercial than usual Madness production
Produced by Feargal Sharkey and Liquidator Productions (an alias for Madness).
Feargal sharkey you got a lovely voice you Wasting your talent by not Singing

No sound :(
sorry, my bad, it was dimmed :)
who can indicate what happened to Feargal's right eye ???? very often seems have problems with his eye ???
It's commonly known as 'lazy eye'.
I think he sounds a bit James Blunt'y
I'm glad I didn't listen to my late father' he was a full blown .nob haha
intro is too long
No need for that.
Feargal sharkey nice looking i wouldn't have kicked him out of my bed when he was younger lol
How can someone go from The Undertones to, well, this!? I'll never understand it.
