I love how he sort of invoked the intro music to your show to jog his memory and remember that a Manhattan has vermouth in it. Shame he didn't remember the Ango.
I feel like whenever Kendall leaves the studio professionalism just gets thrown out the window and episodes like these get captured and handed down to us with shaky hands
Reminds me of a friend who dropped limes on purpose while trying to impress a girl in a bar, struggled to pick them, and then said "I was always bad at pick-up limes"
I was a bartender from 21 until I was 30 (encouraged to make drinks the right way, but we had commercial mixers too). A lot of people are not conditioned to the “right” way. For example, they don’t want a traditional margarita, they want tequila with a margarita mixer. Or they want a Whiskey with Squirt, not a Whiskey Sour. Yes, that might get the job done during happy hour, and I’m all for making the customer happy (I wasn’t stuck up, snobby, or argued with anyone). But I always encouraged people to try a proper cocktail.
I can't believe it took until this episode for me to realize this, but there absolutely ought to be a collab between Babish and Greg from How to Drink. And of all the collabs the two of them could do, this seems easier than many others since Greg is in New Jersey and Babish is in Brooklyn.
only recommendation I'd have Babish is getting the Boston shaker tins, they are easier to get drinks out of compared to the shaker set you have. I also recommend using just stainless, as the coating and wear off over time and can sometimes be found in your drink.
Botched is the playlist i come back to again and again, and it makes up a HUGE part of my internal memescape. Thank you for not only adding to Botched canon, but also referencing previous bits from the botchoverse
As a bartender, I’ve never been more frustrated watching a Babish episode than this one. Thank you to Nico for keeping me sane. Babish botched Botched, but long live America’s Sweetest Boy 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you for your constant enthusiasm and willingness to fail and try again. You are such an inspiration and it was the highest honor to meet you in St. Louis for your book tour ☺️
Having worked in the service industry for 20 years this is pretty typical for a first day of training a new bartender. You'll get there one day. But seriously this is one of the best babish videos ever
Please don't start here. I love Babish, I even enjoyed this episode, but if you want to learn to make cocktails, stick with the pros. How to Drink and Anders Erickson on UA-cam are both great for recipes and for explaining the concepts behind them.
Well, I'm sure you should make botching botched cocktail mistakes but I'm really happy with content you provide. Whish you successful learning and cocktailing!
After sobering up from all those cocktails, could we see you make your take on 40 clove chicken? We rub ours with Basil, Thyme, Rosemary and a bit of Sage, all mixed with EVOO. Always a simple favorite with company...
I love these episodes where Andrew is just doing what he wants. The frequent word of choice in the comments in "unhinged" and I agree, and it's incredibly entertaining.
These botched episodes are genuinely one of my favorite things. I almost wish you messed up more, but I also really enjoy the recipes. I'm so torn. (Shakes fist at sky) BABISH!
Is this what people did for fun before the Internet? I can imagine my parents mixing cocktails with someone quizzing them with an old timey bartending book
This episode is important. For all the attention and meticulousness that Andrew gives to his food, his relatively blasé approach to the cocktails highlights how drinks are treated by the public in general. There is a LOT more to cocktails than people realise. Many of them are so easy to make - but so difficult to make *_right_*
Imagine getting a babish ad before watching a babish video. I thought the video started and got two intros! I am now excited to see more ads i never thought not getting UA-cam red will pay off so much. You get my hat tip and a round of applause.👏
This video goes on the list for bad days. The chaos, the vibes, the absolute confidence on this man who maybe, distantly knows what a cocktail is. Perfection.
babish, I just thought you should know that I specifically seek out your botched videos to watch when I'm smoking one ❤️ I got the notification for this video and that alone got me rolling a spliff because the absolute silliness of these videos is just so perfect 🙏 please never stop making these videos, thank you 🥹
19:15 the garnish is typically dots of bitters on the foam (3-5 dots) then run a pick through the middle of them to make them kinda look like hearts. it's basically latte art for cocktails that have foam - not too dissimilar for a French Martini
minor slip but rye bourbon is not possible, rye needs to be 51% or more rye in the mash bill whereas bourbon is 51% corn, basil hayden is a super high rye bourbon typically which makes it awesome for manhattans but their rye is even better and my go to! (source is I work at a liquor store that sells about a hundred different bourbons alone)
Ironically you’ve said “basil Hayden is a super high rye bourbon” lol I assume you mean it has a high percentage of rye, but it is still just a bourbon.
@@Chocolatel0vr "high rye bourbon" is short hand in the industry for a high percentage of rye in the mashbill, yes. Honestly that's how I know @mattbolman works in a liquor store because I work for a wine and spirits distributor and "high rye bourbon" is something we say all the time.
@@Chocolatel0vr yeah that is what I said, it's a bourbon with a high rye content by comparison to other bourbons, they also sell a rye version that is not a bourbon
@@MattBolmanthe funny thing is he’s using the basil hayden dark rye which is not a bourbon at all and even has port blended in it😂 I found it very odd when he called it a bourbon for many reasons
I was hoping for a second appearance of Greg from How to Drink on this channel in this video. Regular collaborations between both channels would be the best thing to happen on this earth!
I happened to be watching this today, was curious about something, and wound up reading Andrew's Reddit post that came out a week before this video. It broke my heart a little for this dear man. I hope he's doing better now, and that this episode was genuinely as much fun to make as it seems here. Sending lots of love and care ❤
Hey, as a fellow cocktail bungler, I can relate. Lemme know if you ever want to bungle some drinks together (again)!
This right here, Greg would be a fantastic person to have on more often to do drinks/cocktail related stuff
I love how he sort of invoked the intro music to your show to jog his memory and remember that a Manhattan has vermouth in it. Shame he didn't remember the Ango.
I saw this thumbnail and hoped it was a H2D collab 😭 This has to happen
Yesssssssssss
Ahh! I commented asking for you to help this guy! It would be an amazing. Wait, again?
As a bartender, watching Babish make cocktails is like watching your Grandpa try to google something.
As a grandpa, watching Babish try to Google something is like making cocktails.
I look forward to a second Botched episode about this one.
As a cocktail, watching Babish try to grandpa is like Googling something
My wife is a cocktail bartender and she says watching Babish Google Granpa is like making a cocktail
Bartender, can i get a chocolate milk on the rocks?
You should have had Greg from How To Drink on this episode. Not to make the drinks, but to stand in the corner watching on in horror
I agree whole-heartedly.
Wanted to summon him here. But decided that would be bad for his health. :D
I came to comment this but I'll just boost this one
Yesss !!!
I'm ready and available. Happy to come into the city or bring you out to the jersey shore. We'll get hammered either way.
I feel like whenever Kendall leaves the studio professionalism just gets thrown out the window and episodes like these get captured and handed down to us with shaky hands
Literally zero adults in the room for this one.
Nico looks like he's there to be the one managing everything, but no, he's there for the drinks, too.
Seriously why is the camera moving so much?
@@dancoroian1 this was not a critique of the camera work, but I see you’re often a harsh critic so we’ll look past it.

6:00 am for me lol
Lucille Bluth: “I’ll also have some toast”
@hellfish2309 I mean hey it's 9 am somewhere right lol
It's 10:00pm for me so I guess it's the right time for me hahah
I love this new "Andrew gives up on accuracy and tries to make things based entirely on memory and vibes" format.
Today I learned that Andrew is the kind of friend you have to watch at an open bar.
That wasn't muddling, it was felony assault. Today the court will hear the case of Mint vs Babish
😂😂
Dude right? I'm like STOP babish it's already dead 😂
I misread your username as slice of pasta lol
First he crushes the mint then he shakes the cocktail. There's a man who likes his mint as bitter as life
That hurt me so bad. So much bitter from that torn mint…..
So for the margarita do you have to drop both limes on the floor or only one?
Reminds me of a friend who dropped limes on purpose while trying to impress a girl in a bar, struggled to pick them, and then said "I was always bad at pick-up limes"
"Bartender, one margarita, on the floor."

Botched episodes are just so unhinged and I absolutely love it. The chopstick was utterly perfect.
14:09 he's humming Glenn Miller - In The Mood, if anyone's wondering. It's one of the more stereotypical "old timey default jazz" songs imo
Babish needs to collab with someone like Greg from How to Drink for a follow up to this botched episode lol
I got so excited this was a collab!
Same brain! Plus Greg is just in New Jersey, so it's an easier collab than with like the Educated Barfly who is in LA!
lol the comment right above this one is now greg’s
I love how on my page your comment is directly below howtodrink's comment
I was going to say the same thing! Let’s make that happen.
I love every video but the 'Botched by Babish' are the most entertaining. Mostly because of how unhinged Andrew is in these videos.
yessir🎉
I don't even drink anymore but I couldn't help watching the whole thing anyway, this format is by far my favorite of his
Babish, I love you, but surely you have a bartender friend who can actually tell you how to make all of these properly
Maybe he can collab with How to Drink!
@@FlashKillerXthey did way back in the day
@@FlashKillerX how to drink needs to get a bartender friend to teach him as well. Hes utterly terrible at making drinks.
So many bartenders know less than he does. A bartender friend doesn't promise properly made cocktails.

whiskey with squirt...
Clearly we need another "botched" with how to drink getting involved so Andrew can not prepare again and Greg can look on in solemn sadness
I was hoping for this collab too!
Need to get Greg from How To Drink to join you for a video. Slightly intoxicated Babish and Greg would be a chaos grenade in a great way.
I'd pay two YT premium accounts to watch that

I've never heard the phrase "internal memescape" before but that describes a large part of me so perfectly.
