    Thanks for your time you put into making this video. It is VERY clear and easy to follow. Just want to add that the joining of the new rope starts at 11:55. Hope that helps your viewers to find it quickly when they run out of rope.

    My daughter attends a green school so I'm going to use this pattern using WalMart grocery bags. It will be donated to the school for a fund raiser using the recycled plastice bags. I'm excited!!!! Looks super easy.

      😢 Melanie was good at her explanation, but remember she's using clotheline. It is very easy to see the stitches with that large of a product you need to just keep watching. There are so many wonderful people. You just have to keep searching for them. Some don't speak english, but they make beautiful stitches. You just ask UA-cam to find it in english also. There are more variations of that where you use material wrapping around the closed rope.Good luck with your crochet.And don't get discouraged just keep looking

    I probably learned this trick by now, but when you want to start the “wall” of the basket, instead of just going to single crochet into each stitch to form the wall I recommend to do one round of single crotch in the front loop of the V and then single crochet the rest of the way up. It’ll establish a distinct base for the basket

    I ended up buying a size Q hook because it came paired up with a size L hook I was needing to make a handbag, and it wasn't available individually. I knew that it's usually used to make blankets and rugs, but I didn't know what else to make with such a big hook. I make these baskets myself..and I use cotton clothesline cord. I find that it is much easier to work with. And nicer. There are a couple different ways to do this. You can use macrame cord as well. Which works nice. Also you can make this basket crocheting in a coil type way. Which is basically taking a yarn and crocheting around the rope. Which is also nice. You can also dye your cotton cord to give it some colour. I really like your tutorial though it is easy to understand and you do have a nice pleasant voice.

      Joseth Williams So here is round 5... Ch 2, 2sc in first stitch, sc 3; repeat
      Slip stitch to complete round - Round 6 would be Ch 2, 2sc in first stitch, sc 4; repeat. Round 7 would be Ch 2, 2sc in first stitch, sc 5; repeat. Continue on that pattern until you reach your desired size.

    OK-made my second one with a 1/4 inch poly rope to get the purple and gold colors for an LSU fan. I would appreciate if the number of stitches you should have were given at the end of each add-on row. In addition, when you start the second row of SC after the last increase rows, I was unsure where to start the second row of the wall? Do you just go into the next space ( what I did but it was the space created by the CH2 of previous row)) or are you supposed to be doing a slip stitch and CH 2?

    Hi Melanie,
    Its a great tutorial. Im actually trying to incorporate baskets into our household, for bread, knick-knacks, etc & your basket is perfect. What should I do if I want to create a basket with a broader base?. Also, how can I create a lid/ cover for the basket?. Do you think you can create a tutorial for a rectangular/ cuboid basket with handles?, one that may be used as a storage for newspapers/ magazines by the side of a living room couch?
    I live in India, the sizes of crochet needles & yarn types are not the same as in the U.S. What are the universal specifications of the tools that I can look for?
    Thanks.

      @MelanieHam  9 років тому

      2aeng hi there! You can just keep increasing the round until you reach your desired size... so I stopped at (Round 5: Ch 2, 2sc in first stitch, sc 3; repeat). So Round 6 would be Ch2, 2sc in first stitch, sc 4; repeat and so on ;). I will look at doing a rectangle one too!

    Hello Melanie, thank you for this tutorial it was fun to watch. Do you think there would be a “construction” difference if you used nylon rope? Would the rope basket come out the same? Another question I have is if I wanted to make the rope basket larger, would I add stitches in the next row such as, crochet two single in the same loop/stitch then crochet 3 sc in each next stitch...then the next row with 4 sc in each of the next 4 individual stitches? Once I am done with increasing I would then start building the walls with single crochet, right? Thank you.

    • @charlleedodson
      @charlleedodson 6 років тому

      Nancy-Jo Nunez yes. Basically, you can increase the amount of single crochets before doing 2 single crochets (the single crochets where there are 2 in one stitch)

    So I made this basket, and it ended up smaller than I thought it would be. My question is if I wanted to make the base of the basket wider, could I increase by sc one more in each round? For example, the last round before making the sides of the basket, you have to 2sc in the first stitch, then sc 3, repeating then the next round you would 2sc in the first stitch, then sc 4, and so on and so forth, increasing how many sc consecutively in each round after that....does that make sense?

    Hi Melanie, I loved ur work, very neat and pretty. Can u please let me know if we could get to buy a slightly thinner or less chunky yarn of the same stuff?. If so where can we get it?

      Sure, this is clothesline so if you go to a hardware store you can find some different options.
