Original owner of a 2014 4Runner Limited that just hit 280K tonight. Primarily highway miles, runs like a dream!
That’s what I’m talking about, that’s freaking awesome!!
Thank you for sharing!
Cheers to many more miles🍺
Awesome! What have you replaced other than normal wear items?
I am curious also as to what you have replaced? Transmission?
@@floridamuscle4885 at 270k the alternator went bad, that was the only mayor fix
I have one at 108k miles just did a tuneup and transmission flush
I have a 2013 4Runner limited. Not one problem at 162k miles. Just changed the spark plugs. Brake pads and rotors, which is just routine maintenance that needs to be done. Thank you sir. Videos are extremely helpful.
Thank you for sharing that.
I appreciate your support!!
2003 4.7L V8 with 342k.. ALL ORIGINAL.. EVERYTHING but rear shocks!! Still pulls 20-21 hwy mpg! I L❤VE IT!! 😊
👏🏻💪🏻
@@VikingsGarage timing belt too? 😅
Doubtful, if it is that thing is a ticking time bomb
I shopped a 4-runner 6 years ago. It was too expensive; however, I just landed a 2023 TD off-road premium last week. Appreciate Viking Garage!
I appreciate you!!
Congrats on your new 4Runner!!
Just got rid of my 2016 SR5 that had 175,000 miles. It served me well.
Also just bought my moms 4runner, a 2021 SR5 Premium with 30,000 miles ❤
FoRunna forever
I feel you!! I will be buying another one after this. Thank you for sharing!!
Bought a '17 Off Road Premium about a year ago. Previous owner put only 23K miles on it in 5 years. We've put 14K miles on it - new tires, full fluid change, Westin grill guard, Bilstein 5100s. Loving it thus far. Congrats on 175K. Hope to get there!
Appreciate you sharing.
I’m sure you will get there 🤙🏻
The 4runner is the vehicle they send to rescue the rescue vehicle.
I honestly believe that, although the Land Cruiser (real one) is most likely the one of choice for that task.
@@VikingsGarage unfortunately the land cruiser doesn't really exist any more.
The new redesign is land cruiser in name only. The new gen of Toyotas are not deserving of the reputation of the old ones yet.
💯
Congrats! I got mine in 2020, SR5P and only got 13,000 miles so far. I work from home so it doesn't go much. I'm excited to keep it for the next 17 years!
Oh you must definitely will. 😁
My 2014 is a bit over 180k. 2nd owner. I've only replaced the brake rotors/pads (aftermarket drilled/sloted for about $500 on all 4), I warped the old ones stopping too fast off the highways. I think before it was a grocery getter, super clean and previous owner kept everything detailed. Engine bay, inside door jambs, everything was spotless when I got it. I change my own oil every 10k, and do similar with the filter (sometimes I change it early depending on money/weather situation). Previously owned a 2001, and my mother also has a 2010 now after driving a 2000 for years. I've got to get the airbag thing done, and make sure the fuel pump was done! Lots of good info on stuff to look out for on my old Runner.
Right on. Thank you for sharing your story. Yeah, I do post a lot of useful information on these rigs.
Thank you so much for the Intel on my 2021 Tacoma today on the gear searching. Hands down the very best service I've ever received! 🙏💪
Not a problem Sir. You’re welcome!!
Looks like I can claim the most mileage in the shortest time. 2022 bought on Feb 28th. 21k miles, no issues. Mods are coming along strong
💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I have a Feb14/2021 with 78750 miles. No mods, regular maintenance.
😱 wow , that’s a lot of driving.
160k on my 2015 limited. Oil and filter, tire rotation every 5k. Trans, diffs and transfer case every 50k. Front brakes at 80kand 160k but this time replaced the rotors. Transfer case output shaft is starting to leak a little. Probably take care of that at the next oil change. Oh yeah, front and rear shocks at 120k. Also did the plugs at that time. Zero rust here in SC and original calipers.
That’s awesome, getting your money’s worth. I love it!
Thank you for sharing!
Viking, Great videos !!! I have a 1967 Ford F600, like your neighbor. I have a 1996 Lexus LX450 (Land Cruiser) triple lock with 500,000 miles on her. I have 2 third generation 4Runners. one has over 300,000 miles. All of them are perfectly maintained, like new condition. Thanks for your great videos and your passion for the 4Runners. Give us some updates on your neighbor's truck.
Thank you for sharing your story, you definitely got some high rollers there.
Unfortunately Bill did retire and move down south, hug you best believe he’s still wrenching and giving that old Ford.
He loves that thing!!
Cheers!!
We just became a multi 4runner family about a week ago. I’ve had a 2017 TRD off road since May of 2017 and just got my wife a 2023 off road. Both right around 23,000 miles and we love them.
Congrats!! 🤘🏻
I love my 22 trd orp with kdss. Best vehicle I’ve had besides my old Lexus is350. I plan to keep this one forever. I normally don’t keep a car long either. I’ve had 58 vehicles lol
That awesome , thank you for sharing.
(Spoiler alert ) will be making a video soon, that will cover and reveal all the cars I’ve owned.
Just bought my first ever brand new vehicle…. 2024 Toyota 4 runner SR5…. 9 miles on it off the lot I did a lot of research about reliability and I’m hoping it’s going to last me a LONG time! I’ll be back with an update in hopefully 20 years!!! I really appreciated this video!
You’re very welcome!! Congrats on the new ride!! Enjoy!!
Congratulations on paying off the loan! Great video. I have 40k on my 2023. Had a TSB for front diff noise and replaced a windshield :/ lol! I put 300K on my 1996 Land Cruiser, had to replace a lot but never glass… LOL!
That’s freaking awesome! Thank you for sharing your story!!
I’ve got 2010 SR5 I’ve had for 9 years with 198 000km runs great, can’t wait to hit 200k, oil change every 5-6k, only done alignment once, drives straight with good tire wear, I’ve had rear shocks replaced due to leaking, alternator and muffler, just did spark plugs at 180k
Outstanding!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Not much as gone wrong
Great video, love the 4Runner content!
👍🏻 I appreciate that!
God bless you man!!
🙏🏻 Thank you!
I’m
On fence 2024 new 4Runner - Or 2025 new model
I know the 24 tried true but damn the gas - I’d The 25 model
just going to give us 22 mpg?
You want my honest opinion
Get a 2024. YOU WONT REGRET IT!!
Bought my TRD PRO new in 2017. Still less than 10k on the odometer, I have a long way to get to 175k!!
That’s for sure, you got to get out and drive it more.
Bought a 2012 4runner LTD about a year ago, one owner, zero rust, good service records, mint interior with 112,000 miles.
Right after getting it I did the following:
Oil.
Cabin filter.
Air filter.
Diffs fluids.
Transfer case fluid.
Spark plugs.
PCV Valve.
New tires.
New battery.
Coolant.
Brake fluid.
Power steering fluid.
AC Refresh kit.
Rear diff breather.
Driveshaft grease.
New front struts & rear shocks ( Xreas fail ).
Front & rear sway bar links & bushings.
Throttle body cleaning.
And in the last few months I’ve done transmission fluid & filter, brake rotors & pads, replaced timing tensioner cover gasket ( slow leak ) and lastly for some preventative maintenance, just replaced the fuel cap.
In the spring I’m gonna replace the drive belt and do a full exterior cut / polish.
Overkill I’m sure, but man it feels good to have all that done. Was fun learning it all too.
Absolutely, plus you know you can count on it. Something about working on your own car, very gratifying. That is indeed quite the list. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Jeep guys don’t know what you’re talking about. 😆
😅
Great job Viking damn near identical issues and maintenance on my 2011. Just hit 203,000. Had it since 17,000. I did change the lca because I wanted new ball joints and of course you need to buy the entire arms. Didn’t have the steering shaft issue yet knock on wood and need to do the timing cover tensioner gasket, been leaking a bit forever. 4 sets of tires and 3 brake jobs, once with new oem calipers and yes they tax hard on them. See you at 300k brother
Thank you so much!! That’s a very impressive number, keep going 💪🏻
Thank you for the video!
You’re very welcome!
I have a 2009 Kia Borrego, a very similar SUV to this, with over 180K miles. I'm the original owner, and I also do my own maintenance. Only issue has been a failed alternator at 100K mile mark.
Maintenance is the key.
👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you , for all your videos. I’m also n NJ! I have a 2021 TRD Pro, I am working on for overland adventures. So far I am doing all my own work. I am retired Army and use the Auto hobby shop down at Maguire AFB. Now that it’s to cold for outside work. I plan on taking this truck the distance. I do have a question, why Amsoil? Would like to hear your opinion. Also would you be able to make a video covering all the grease points and inspection points I should be aware of.
Thanks Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, I’ve cover a lot of it on some previous videos, but I’ll definitely keep you in mind for a future video . Proud of you for not being afraid to work on it yourself 💪🏻
As far as AMSOIL, I was always a Mobil 1 guy until I saw MR. Banks Video , check it out:

One thing to add to the list once a year is pull slide pins and clean crap off the hardware on your brakes
That’s actually Not a bad idea.
@@VikingsGarage any rust belt mechanic knows there tacos or tundras with 4 piston calipers are notorious for slide pins to seize!
Right on!!
What’s a good grease to use on the slide pins?
Anything anti seize really.
I use 3M cooper Anti-Seize brake lube.
10k miles into my 2022 off-road and I’ve already had countless great adventures. Finally started modding it now that I know I’m going to keep it for ever!
👏🏻 They do provide so much joy!!
Good luck with it!
15k 2022 here yo~
👍🏻
I just hit 11k in my 22 lime rush!
Sweet!
My 2021 TRD PRO picked up AUG 2021 hit 42000 today. Fox shocks replaced x 3 under warranty. Daily driver

Just got my dads old 4th Gen 2006 4.7 V8 limited 4x4. It has 202,000 on it hope to get 300 plus with reg maintenance
300k will be a breeze. Enjoy!!
Just purchased my first 4 runner, Landed a use 2023 trd off road premium. Appreciate this channel super helpful, I am gonna run this thing to 200K
Congratulations on your new Ride!!
(200k will be a breeze 😉)
Great video.
Thank you 🙏🏻
i had a 2007 Sport Edition, brought both my kids home in it, i have a 2020 limited now with 30k on the clock; i should kept the 07 but we "needed" a bigger suv during those years so i had to yukons ( they were not bad) ; happy to have a runner again
Absolutely, once a 4runner owner, always a 4runner owner.
Thank you for sharing, those special moments become ingrained in our minds.
I know it's not a 4runner but they have the same drivetrain. I have a 2007 toyota tacoma access cab trd sport 4x4 4.0L V6 automatic transmission with 173,500 miles. It's been reliable, useful, capable, and great to have. Like you I keep up on the maintenance and have taken care of any recalls. I would recommend toyota trucks and suv's.
Right on!! If well taken care they will last forever!!
Thank you for watching!!
I have 113,000+ miles on my 2012 4Runner SR5 (I'm original owner) and there are several of your suggestions I'm going to follow through with on my next vehicle check-up. When staying in town I don't put a lot of miles on it but it has been out as far as Arizona, Missouri, Colorado, South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee. I intend to keep it as long as 200K if life and maintenance allow and it's been a great vehicle. Appreciate your channel!
I appreciate you, I’m sure you will get there no problem.
Well traveled, lots of good memories I’m sure.
200k its just getting broke in👍
Just bought my 2011 SR5 with 202k miles. Service records showed a steering leak at 172k, rear shocks @ 184k, neutral safety switch & trans service @ 198k.
Very cool, thank you for sharing.
Good luck with your new ride!!
Love and look forward to your videos always! Still loving my 2017 TRD OR Premium, just turned 75,000 miles and feel this vehicle is just barely broken in. Glad I’m no where near having to think about a replacement especially in this market! Thanks for all your pro tips and tricks, stay well.
Thank you for ti out kind words.
Wishing you and the family a Merry Christmas!!
Hate to burst your bubble but Break in period doesn’t start till atleast 150k on 5th gens
Thanks for the detailed maintenance recommendations list in this video. I just found and subscribed to your channel. I have just purchased a 2018 4Runner Limited with 4WD from the original owner. It's a North Carolina car, no rust. 60K miles, never been off road, looks and drives like it's brand new. All service records, done at a Toyota dealership at Toyota recommended service intervals. I have a mechanic I trust who lives within walking distance of my house, so it's very convenient to leave a vehicle with him and walk to and from my house to pick it up. I've taken notes on your maintenance recommendations, will review all the service it has had, then take it to the mechanic to have him look it over and will go through your maintenance schedule recommendations.
One thing I've added to your list because the Limited has the X-Reas suspension system which I've read has a pretty high failure rate (relative to Toyota standards) is to check the suspension for any fluid leaks any time the vehicle is in the shop for anything. The consensus recommendation seems to that when you start seeing any leaks, replace the entire X-Reas system with something like standard Bilstein shocks. I'm more interested in reliability and long term maintenance cost than any tiny benefit in ride and cornering that the X-Reas might provide. Have you seen many issues with the X-Reas system on Limiteds, and what is your recommendation when you see it? My vehicle will primarily be used as an every day vehicle, but I do expect to take trips to the west for up to a couple of months every year or two where I will take it off road up to maybe an intermediate level of difficulty. I'm not ever going to be a hard core off roader.
First,
thank you for your support!!
Yes X-reas do fail a lot, quite a bit actually. It’s always a route to replace the components as they start to leak, but has you will eventually experience… expensive!
Most of us do the smart thing and swap it out 🤷🏼♂️
@@VikingsGarage I'll just have it swapped out the first time there's a leak. It might already have one for all I know. I'm going to have my mechanic go over the vehicle in the next few days.
Just purchased a 2012 4Runner SR5 2d with 107k miles. The Carfax showed the previous owner changed the oil at the dealership every 5k miles and most other interval maintenance was done as well. Luckily it was in Texas so the frame had no rust either. The condition is unbelievable how clean it is. I actually traded my 2020 Jeep Wrangler that only had 60k miles. I considered it going “backwards” to lose my payment but there is probably a good chance that the 4Runner last longer than the Jeep with 8 years and 50k miles head start on it.
Rest assured that, it was a move forward. 💯
You channels been super helpful in maintaining my 5th Gen 4Runner. Thanks brother.
🤙🏻 Anytime!!
hi can I ask you one question I bought a uesd 2015 sr5 . when I put gear on neutral and L4, and then push the A track button. but there is no indicator light on the screen. is it normal or issue?
It should light up once your in 4 low.
I live in NYC and go upstate almost every week to a Hunting /fishing cabin off road. I have 194 K and the only thing that ever went bad was the Navigation /disc player. Luckily it was under warranty and was replaced for free! I replaced an Alternator at 175Kish. I am bringing it in next week for a 200K check and service. I love this Truck, 2010 LTD 4X4. I also have had calipers and of corse brake rotors and pads changed .
Thats awesome, not to bad when you consider the joy it brings. Thank you for sharing!!
Just a bought a 2023 TRD Offroad Premium with KDSS before they kill the 5th gen. Did anti rust undercoating of the frame and KDSS housing, and break in oil change at 1,100 miles. Looking forward to many years and miles. I intend to use Toyota Motor Oil only, your thoughts on that.
Thank you for what you do. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you for supporting the channel and congratulations on the new ride.
Toyota oil is the one intended for it, but Amsoil or Mobil 1 also a good choice.
I'm genuinely thinking about getting one. Given that someday I'll be able to afford it.
Of course, I should also mention that I'm grateful for the in depth review.
🙏🏻 Thank you Sir!! You should definitely get one.
@@VikingsGarage Hi there, I was wondering, what song did you use in your intro? It sounds catchy but I can't find it on shazam.
@dr.poopoohead5871 I’m sorry. I’m not sure what the name was.
Thank you for all those tips when I buy my 4runner later on
🤘🏻
I rolled 355k on my 27yr old gen1 tacoma yesterday... What pertinent maintenance is recommended at SUCH advanced miles on 5VZFE? ... It sorta feels as though the fuel pump is dragging the truck down and acts sluggish now and then
Interesting.
Simple, enjoyable and straightforward info. Thanks.
🙏🏻 I appreciate you!
Thank you
My family has had a lot of Toyotas. 1980 Celica, 1992 Geo Prism (Corolla), 1997 Tacoma, 1998 Avalon, 2000 4Runner, 2002 Avalon, 2004 Tundra, 2005 Sequoia. I just bought a 2024 4Runner Limited. I love it and plan to keep it as long as I can.
That’s quite the line up🤘🏻
Congrats on the new Ride!!
Yet another excellent video! Your awesome! Your video’s are both entertaining and informative. Thank you for taking the time and effort to provide us with great content. It’s a long drive, but if you ever make it out to Idaho, look me up and we’ll hit some desert trails in our 5th gens. Happy Holidays,
Slopemaster:)
I appreciate your kind words!! Thank you!
That would be nice. Happy holidays!!
10 months and 10,500 miles into my 2022 Lime Rush TRD Pro. On my way home from work, one cold morning (below 32°F) a couple of weeks ago I was going up a slight hill at about 50mph. Of course with a little more throttle added my transmission auto downshifted to 4th then 3rd, once I got up and headed downwards when the trans upshifted to 4th then 5th the trans seemed to slip after holding the revs, it was noticeable to me. Maybe 300-500 rpms worth. I didn’t think much of it then. The 4Runner was already warm I had drove for over 10 miles and had warmed it up for 5-10 minutes before leaving work. Fast forward a couple weeks later and it seems like on the highway and other places where I’m downshifting like such the trans is doing the slight slip when going back to 5th gear. Of course I’m worried about it, and am very observant as if I would’ve notice it before. I don’t think it’d be easily replicated and am leary of a dealership doing anything about it let alone losing a bit of fluid by them checking it. Have you ever noticed this in yours?
Wow I’m glad I stayed away from the new 4runners
I can’t say I’ve ever seen the condition described. You could have a bad Transmission. Is the check engine light on?
@@VikingsGarage To be honest I may’ve over reacted. There are no check engine lights and it hasn’t happened in about 300 miles. Did a lot of driving this past weekend and made sure to film some of my highway and backroad hill driving rpms. I think the term I was actually looking for was “flare” as I’ve read with the transmission rpms. Between a gear. Apparently some have claimed the A750F transmission has bands between each gear except 4th-5th so going from 4th the torque converter has to unlock fully? It’s designed to be smooth of course but under the perfect/right throttle conditions would permit such condition to randomly occur. Thanks for reading my comment though, I’ve kept an eye on it. But I was kinda worried about making an appointment and asking a dealer to check my fluid level. If they even did it I understand it’s a tideous process dealing with the temperature. And have found a lot of times, a tech who doesn’t know better. Will just open the check plug draining a bit of atf and calling it good. My area is notorious for bad experience at the Toyota dealerships… all 3 of them.
@@sebastianromero420 Sorry, hope this didn’t put the nail in the coffin for you with considering a 4Runner. I may’ve overreacted as you can read my reply below to Vikings garage. The 4Runner is no exception to the best Toyota quality. Just watch AutomotivePress’ videos about them and his. The 4Runner has Lexus quality paint and build quality. The transmission is actually considered one of the best Toyota/Aisin has made in terms of reliability. As well as the 4.0 V6 being around for 20 years now. I will be honest with you. Some of Toyota’s quality especially build quality is starting to go down the drain. Mostly with the American made products all due to supply issues and abnormal production schedules. That’s why I chose the 4Runner. Being made in Japan, Japanese culture is really strong with pride and quality in their work. Tacoma is also a good choice, yes being made in Mexico. The build quality and lack of issues are exceptional. Stay away from new Tundra and Sequoia. Consumer reports just announce Tundra practically being the #1 DO NOT buy truck.
Sorry to hear bud, but yeah just keep an eye on it. You should be fine.
A lifted station wagon built by Toyota.
Toyota builds their vehicles for the life of the owners.
I love mine(2007) but unfortunately someone ran a red light and I’m looking for a new-er one.
You’re absolutely right. Sorry to hear about the accident, good luck on your newer car search. As long as It’s a 4runner you’ll be good. 😉
@@VikingsGarage get a dash cam. It’s the only reason the insurance company is working with me.
It’s definitely on my to do list. Thank you!!
Took a hiatus from my UA-cam check-ins last few months while I tended to family and work stuff.
Got a 2017 Toyota Sienna and a 2017 Toyota RAV4 in 2022 when we needed to replace our other vehicles. Eldest son is now 16, so the plan is to gift him the RAV4 this summer and save up until then for a fifth gen 4Runner for me!
Welcome back! And welcome to the channel!!
I think that’s a great idea. 👏🏻👏🏻
The 4Runner is the most reliable vehicle Toyota currently makes. Along with the GX460 on the Lexus side, which shares many components with the 4Runner. I own a 2014 GX, it’s a tank
Totally right there with you.
I have had camry's, corolla's, and 4 runners. The most reliable has been the cheapest, a 2010 corolla with 200,000 miles. Just brakes, oil changes, one alternator and a battery. Still going strong. Have a 2023 4 runner right now because the 2003 4 runner's frame rotted out. It was reliable, but had a few issues and was able to get 212,000 miles. The camry is a 2017 with 90,000 miles and no issues, but will see what happens when it gets more miles.
Sweet, thank you for sharing!!
Toyota reliability right there!!
2012 limited with 154k and runs great. Only failures was a drive belt because it had 145k on it and the driver side automatic running board which cost too much to replace. The rest of my maintenance is much more regular. I want to go on a trip from VA to CA this summer. If anyone has advice on preventative change before taking a 6k trip let me know. I’m thinking to do thermostat and all hoses. Oh I did have to replace the front wheel bearing at 148k. Thanks for all your great advice and videos.
Have you ever cleaned your MAF (mass airflow sensor) or the throttle-body? More very easy jobs but should be done. I do mine every 50k.
I sure have, every 30,000 miles.
I even show you how to do it:

2018 ORP with 110,000 miles. Super happy with it!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the info and tips, just got a 2011 4Runner with 220,000 and service records say the transmission oil has never been changed. it's a little dark, but still shift's fine, some say leave it and others say do a drain and fill. thanks
Thank you.
I say Drain and fill it, just make sure to add some of that LUCas Transmission additive Goodness 😉
@@VikingsGarage cheers man, I'll get on that this weekend
👏🏻👍🏻
2017 limited paid for, feels good to own a vehicle and still love it. I have 66,000 miles and I plan to drive it for many years to come…god willing. Just replaced my wheels and tires for TRD wheels and Nitto Grappler and replacing the grill and step rails. Giving it some TLC since it’s paid for. I truly love my 4Runner.
Great story, I do agree.
If it’s an investment which you own, why not treat it well.
Thank you for sharing!
Same here. I have a 17 that’s paid for! Very great feeling
I’m about to hit 70k miles on my 2017 4Runner. Beautiful vehicle! Only thing I would change is if I had money I would go for a limited or TRD Pro 😎.
Same here, I would have just both a TRD PRO from the start 😅
@@VikingsGarage You said your car is paid off so maybe one day you should upgrade to it. That’s what I will do. Mine is paid off but at the moment I really don’t want to do payments on a vehicle.

I appreciate your continuous support! 🙏🏻
“Spoiler alert”
Expect to see that happen in the near future 🤫
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and yours!! 🎄🥂
I have a 2011 limited with 218K mikes. Needs a new rack and brake calipers but motor wise it Still runs like a champ 👍
That’s awesome, why does it need a rack?
Thank you for sharing!
My man!!!! I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this video and your "how to" links in the description. Keep up the great work!!! 👍
I appreciate that! Your very welcome!
Let me tell you something about the calipers. They come dry from the factory. When you buy new, get in there and lube em. They will last a long time. Lube em ever couple years.
Viking you crack me up, plus I enjoy the videos thank you.

I appreciate you!!
I grease my joints every 5000 oil change. I do a lot of dirt road driving and in winter we have a lot of snow and salt..
Can’t go wrong with that, better safe then sorry 👏🏻👏🏻
Hi. 175,000 miles % 16 miles per gallon =10,9375 gallons . 10,9375gallons X 5.00 per gallon=$54,687.50 usd for fuel only. ( Please correct my math) my question is did this vehicle keep you &loved ones Safe? Was the vehicle smooth and quite? Was the vehicle reliable? Would you upgrade to a 2023 limited edition? Thanks for your time and opinion on this vehicle. Happy new year.
Just to correct your Math it’s actually 20mpg, that is my average. It has keept us safe, it’s extremely reliable, not the smoothest but that’s ok. It’s a 4runner. I would not upgrade to the Limited because I am a rugged 4runner kind of guy. The limited is more for those that use it in the city only and are looking for all the creature comforts.
I will be upgrading to a New or Newer TRD PRO 😉
I don't know what part of the country you live in, but the only time I've ever paid $5.00 or more for a gallon of fuel was on the Icefields Parkway in Canada where there was one gas station on a roughly 150 mile stretch of road. I live in western NC and the highest price I remember paying here in the last couple of years was about $4.60. The average price I've paid for gas over the last 5 years would be less than $3.00 a gallon. Of course, gas might cost $5.00 a gallon over the next 5 years, who knows?
I have a 2016 4Runner (that I bought new in June 2017) and have put over 177K miles on it. I live in the Greater Philadelphia area and I know I've only seen $5.xx USD for Regular just over the last 2-3 years. And that's at peak. My local Costco is currently at $3.75 USD as of my post. $5.xx over the last 6-7 years isn't realistic at all for like 80% of America. Definitely isn't for me.
@@Don-md6wnI paid $5 a gallon around Big Sur in California and $4.50 around Moab in Utah. I live in Florida but drive to Utah, Colorado, California every summer to off-road and camp.
Great stuff as usual man. In your opinion, if someone only wanted to use the 4runner mainly for street use. is it worth upgrading to same setup you have for the shocks and rear spring kit? Thank you
I appreciate that, the TRD PRO Fox racing suspension is definitely a go. Don’t waste your money or time in the Eibach rear Springs.
@@VikingsGarage Thank you
@@ac0char I'm going to do Bilstein 5100 all around and Wheeeler T13 rear coils by the end of the month. Mild 1.5" lift to maintain good drive ability. Wheeler coils look to be among the most comparable to the stock spring rate (180lb stock vs 202lb). I will do the installation myself, which should just take an afternoon. All for $650. Goal is for it to take the nosedive out and lessen the rear sag.
👏🏻 That’s a nice Setup. Good luck with the install.
What to expect…???? A fat wallet cause this vehicle gives no problems at all compared to a Ford or Chevy.
Right on!! 💪🏻
I bought a 22 trail at the beginning of the year. Just passed 8k. Can't wait to get to 180k.
Congratulations!!! W’ll get there no problem.
I’m gonna be trading in my 2018 Honda Civic. It’s paid off and had zero issues but I live in Prescott now and need/want a 4Runner to go off-roading and deal with the rain and snow. I had a 2006 4Runner with 170k miles before I traded it in. Needed something for city life. But back to the countryside and going back.
Absolutely!! 👏🏻👏🏻
I am just over 173k miles on my 2014 SR5. I have no knowledge if the transmission fluid had ever been changed before I purchased it. What is your suggestion on whether or not to change it. I have heard conflicting things about it. Some people say that it will cause slippage and transmission failure if I change the fluid and the reasons for it make sense. But I always second guess whether or not I should. Thanks for any advice you can provide
Change it, you will be fine. Nothing to worry about.
Just enjoy your videos. Quick question. I have a 2008 AWD with 138,,and thinking of trading in for a 2021 4runner Venture with at $42,. Pro's and con's. Please help make a decision.
Thank you for your support!!
Not many cons honestly, they are great solid vehicles. It’s similar to your 2008 just better. 💪🏻
Very nice video and content. You dman with this knowledge.
🙏🏻 Appreciate you Sir.
Happy New year!!
Wish my 2012 had that cluster mann
Get a newer one!! 😅
I like my 2021 4Runner TRD Off-Road premium to much to care about the 6th gen 4Runner or the 2024 Land Cruiser Prado. The only other 4Runner I will be excited to find in good condition is the 1st gen Toyota 4Runner Turbo. I wish Toyota would do another Hilux 4Runner again.
I’m right there with you!! 👍🏻
Well I am new to the 4Runner. I just bought a brand new 2024 SR5 premium last week. I am not new to Toyota I also own a 2009 Tacoma 4X4 with a stick shift that currently has close to 200k.
Congratulations on your New 4Runner!!
Welcome to the channel!!
(Those manual Tacos are built solid 💪🏻)
Nice video, and appreciate your perspective. However, why not simply follow the appropriate maintenance schedule in the Owners Manual? I tend to trust the engineers who designed and tested the vehicle, just like I tend to trust my doctor’s medical advice over that offered by my cousin Vinny’s…
Because I have access to the materials and the tools so for me I feel it’s easy to just do it sooner.
I am a Toyota Master technician after all. 🤷🏼♂️
Picked up a 2021 4Runner SR5 beginning of this month. Appreciate all the content you share. This is going to be an exciting journey. 💯 ✊🏽
That’s awesome!! Congratulations!!
I'm Jealous, I have a 2013 with 38K miles only 😊
Wow, that’s insane!! 😱
@@VikingsGarage Yes coz am living here in Hawaii, no long trips
@MartinezFAMHawaii Oh I see, that explains.
Cheers from New Jersey!! 👍🏻
When my friend picks me up in his old 4-Runner; I breath a sigh of relief that we are going to be able to get BACK TO PAVEMENT when we are done hiking.
Absolutely!!
I appreciate you sharing it Sir.
Thank you for doing the key mod!! I'm gonna do it because of you. Cheers bud! Fantastic video as always! I hope you get 100k subs very quickly!
I truly appreciate that, I think if I get there I might actually quit my job and do this full time. Stay on the look out for that video sometime this month.
Cheers!!
Just got 110,000 miles out of set of Michelin on 2019 4 runner 4WD...265/70/17
😱
“Honey I’m going for a drive”.
“Ok when will you be back?”
“When I hit 175,000 miles!!”
😳
😄👍🏻
I’m buying one because I get bored of cars in two years usually and I’m trying to find one I’ll actually keep 🤷🏽♂️ thanks for the video 👍
Right on!! I was the same way… you might want to keep it longer. 😉
A 4Runner with a 175,000 miles on it is most likely still more mechanically sound than many cars rolling off the assembly line brand new.
Quite frankly, you’re probably right.
I started my first 2 years of my automotive technician career at FORD and so plenty of cars new of the truck with issues. (Was there a very small amount of time)
Not my cup of tea!! 🤷🏼♂️🤣
Have a 2014 SR5 hit 60k miles. Now has oil leak’s coming from timing cover. Disappointed, never thought Toyota would have these kind of issues early on. Read on toyota 4runner forums that it happens to other owners as well. 👎🏼. There should be a recall for this. Not supposed to have leaks with only 60k miles of high way driving.
That’s a lot of gas
As long as you leave it stock it’s a good vehicle. Mine however I did a bunch of dumb mods and it’s pissed off at me at only 70k
Oh man, sorry to hear.
I know the feeling.
138,000 Just replaced inner and out tie rods. Drives so much better, no more wander, and no vibrations at 55mph. Went with Moogs, tie rods
That’s awesome. Wishing you many more miles.
I see you live in a rustbelt state. I'd recommend treating your 4Runner with either Fluidfilm or Krown to help prevent rust

Am looking at a new TRD Off Road Premium.. plan on keeping it for the long haul and doing some overlanding (not hardcore). My question is on sunroofs.. do you see issues on older ones, should I avoid a sunroof, does the truck shifting around overlanding tweak the sunroof and cause problems?
that’s an excellent point, Sunroof flex should be expected if you go off-roading. it’s very minimal but it’s there, hence why I got the base trail way back in the day.
It’s not a deal breaker to me, the next Vikings Garage project only comes with a sunroof, which I will take off-road.
No leaks as long as you periodically clean the sunroof drains.
With that being sad, it’s a very good off-roading vehicle.
267,000 on my 2008 4th Gen 4runner. Picking up my New 2023 Limited tomorrow but keeping the 4th gen as Daily driver.
👏🏻👏🏻 That’s so cool.
Congrats on the new ride!
does that make my 08 titan better than all other vehicles on the road since i have passed 200k and never done anything except oil.
💪🏻
Hey guys, I’m looking into a 2014 4R with 104k miles. Do you guys recommend I get something with less miles or do you think I can get a lot of life out of this truck
The answer is simple .
YES, lots of life left!!
Just had my spark plugs change at 122000 garage put ngk now 4runner has no power eats gas I question the garage they are correct going to dealer
I’m sorry to hear.
A lot of these independent places, I wouldn’t even trust them with a wood stick.
Either take it to the dealer, or get the right plugs and do it yourself… I’ll show you how step by step:

Actually when you learn to Drive beneath 1500 rpm in highways became very fun and save gas
You tell my lead right foot that. As I grow older I believe I’m getting there. 😅
Wow, that’s a good and long list! 😅
I am a bit OCD after all . 😜
