Yo I can't believe I made a JodywithaWhy video!! For real brotha. That time period is just about unmatched in my AF career. I STILL remember that first convo we had and the look on your face when I told you I was your roommate.
Ayeeee yo. Bro I did not know you watched my channel. lol. Man I’m telling you, Goodfellow was the best time in my career. The times we had were unforgettable. Glad I got to have you as my roommate. No way I would’ve had that good of a time without you bro. 💪🏽

I completely agree , the base doesn't make you, you make the base, and if you go in, kicken azz taken names, it will be something you remember for a lifetime. The old sayin misery loves company, you hate the base, the base will hate you, but turning lemons in to lemon aid is the way to go. Also if you go to a lower income base your off base apartment will be the bomb, if you go to an expensive base like Hawaii or San Diego or Washington State you won't be able to afford a good apartment and just be a barracks hobo until your an E 6.
Hey girl. I did not realize this was you. lol. I loved Hurlburt and we actually thought about going back there after retirement. Still gotta figure things out.
While stationed at Pease AFB in New Hampshire, I went to a dance in downtown Portsmouth. The people there were probably my same age, but I felt light years distant from everyone and was about to leave. Then a girl approached and told me to dance with her. Later, she told where to sit, when to leave the table to eat, and when to get a drink. She' in the kitchen now with our grandchildren. We've been married 46 years. We met on a Valentine's Day, and we got married on a Valentine's Day. Thank you Portsmouth, and she's still bossing me around!
Remember watching ur ASVAB video. I’m in cannon rn working to get btz. Made some brothers in air crew. The people you meet in tech school really are amazing!! Never thought I would meet such great people!!
This is some of the BEST advice for anyone, male or female, any branch, about where they are stationed. Get out of your room, barracks, dorm whatever. Make some memories.
My 1st duty assignment was overseas at Lajas Field,AZORES’83-84!Best AF experience for me in Supply Squad. You’re right, being stationed there for 15 months on an island that is 10x20 in square miles out about 200 miles off coast of Portugal ,you definitely make a lot of friends and you certainly find everything and anything to occupy your time.Wherever anyone is stationed, just get out there, don’t be a dorm rat! What you get out of it is exactly what you put into it!! ENJOY AF
As someone who actually lives at Cannon AFB (been here 4 years now & about to PCS out). I can 100% relate to this video! Always surround yourself with positive people AND explore new places! I know many people here that just stay home and complain all day. Yes, Cannon is located in a small town. But that does not mean you have to stay there, there are many cool places to visit all over the state of New Mexico and East Texas! Many places are within 1-4 hours drive away, can easily do a day trip.
I’m at Hurlburt now. Beautiful base and now starting the home buying process☀️ you connected me to a recruiter in Bakersfield in 2022 as my last resort and now I’m stable & very happy :) life changer! thanks, Jody!
Omg. I remember you. Girl you were homeless and now you’re buying a home. 😲😲😲. That’s amazing. I would love to connect with you if you’re ok with it so I can tell your story. I think it’ll be great for people in your situation.
Sergeant Reed this hits me so hard! i totally did the same when i went to tech school at nearby Fort Sam Houston years ago! i instantly fell in love with the base! to this day i still have my besties down at Fort Sam Houston! 🤙🏽
I wish I had this advice when I was younger. It's very easy to be miserable when the circumstances aren't in your favor. I think it's 100% reasonable to hate a base that you're at or even a certain point in life. What truly matters is what you make of it. As cliche as it sounds, I don't think my days would be as good if I never met my friends. We got each other and we make the absolute most of it!
Headed to BMT on Tuesday and tech school at Goodfellow, great to hear a different & positive outlook. Joining in my 30’s so this was VERY helpful thank you!
I'm a recruiter and met you at the schoolhouse. I show this to my applicants and rappers. I couldn't say it better. I'm from Arizona, i spent 8 years at FE warren in Wyoming, my favorite assignment to date because of the people. And there really isn't nothing to do there
I am in my late 30’s, Your videos have helped me through my enlisting process and I am currently waiting to get booked for a job then head to basic. Thank you!
Fam I was at Goodfellow from 08-12. You're 1000% correct the crew I had made San Angelo one of the best places I've lived. Jet Skiing on Lake Nastyworthy (lol), San Antonio and Austin trips. SXSW!!! Hoopin everyday, playin spades for hours!!! Great times!!!! It was about 8-10 of us we still talk at least 3-4 times a week!!! Most have retired or separated now but man THE STORIES!!!! LOL Peace and Blessings
My uncle taught me when I was a teen that your environment is what you make of it. Sadly, I didn't take his advice until I was in my late 20's, but I agree wholeheartedly. If you look for things to complain about, you'll find them everywhere, but if you look for things to be grateful for (or ways to tear the town up 😅) you'll find those too. 🙏🏽
My family (who were/are Air Force) have been everywhere. My dad worked at Schriever AFB, my aunt worked at Dover AFB, my uncle works at Minot AFB, and one of my family friends worked at MacDill and Travis. Once I join the Air Force, I hope to be stationed at McChord because it’s closer to home. Also my cousin will be graduating BMT in 3 days from Lackland.
Hurlburt will be my son’s FDS. His girlfriend will be at Eglin after she graduates from tech school (obviously she’s AF too). Since we live in FL, his wish list consisted of most of FL and then VA. His OCONUS bases were Italy, Hawaii, Japan and then some 😂. I’m just happy that he’s in our home state and in 8 hours he/I could drive to visit. Mac dill would’ve been ideal for us but it is what it is.
I'm about to ship out in a couple months. For sure, a base that's on my dream sheet is Elmendorf. I know its not everyone's top pick but, it is mine. I've always wanted to go to Alaska. Great views and fishing and outdoor experiences.
Hey Jody! I’ve been working with a recruiter. Told him your videos really helped me decide to really focus on working towards it. He’s been super helpful and supportive of getting me through the waiver process. Said he’s met you before. Keep up the great content and thank you for helping pushing me over the edge and going through the process.
Mannnn, you articulated that perfectly. Beale was my first assignment. Most people HATE that place, but I had a love/hate relationship with it because I made some great friends there. I always tell people that the people can make or break an assignment just as much as the location.
Somewhat true, but not for the northern Dakota or Montana bases. Not as a first termer and you put in for southern bases. That kills so many young careers
Definitely hated Goodfellow and San Angelo when I first got there but spent enough time there that I made some great friends and great memories. Those ASU parties ... iykyk
He’s right!! I’ve been stationed here, first duty location, for a littler under two years and yeah it suck’s lol. There isn’t much to do and the major popular Texas cities are at minimum 3 hours away…. But… my friends I met are what keeps this place tolerable. I went from staying in my room being miserable to literally going out every weekend. Don’t even get the chance to save money as much as I be out lol. But because of the people I’ve met so far and continue to meet, I’m okay with being here.
Our son just passed MEPS this week...almost. He was 'disqualified' because of hardware in his ankle from a break 2 years ago and it has to be approved. We are nervous. Do you ever see that not being approved?? He's completely fine, did PT, etc.. Jody, your videos have been great for not just our son get prepped to join, but my husband and I too, to learn what he will be going through. THANK YOU!
Thank you all for watching. I’m glad I could help. As far as his ankle goes, I’ve seen these type of things get cleared often. What it will come down to is the seriousness of the initial issue, the recover process, and the final assessment at the end of physical therapy. I would say just be patient, and hopefully everything works out for you all. I’m wishing you good luck. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Every base that I've been to, I've loved, because I make it what I want it to be. Currently at Yokota and don't have a tribe here yet, but I like what it provides me right now in my career.
Oh snap. Bro you and Var commented. I had no idea y’all watched me. lol. That’s crazy. But for real bro, our time in San Angelo was definitely my favorite time. As crappy as the town was, we made that place the place to be. I thought about mentioning we all got stationed together in Langley, but I left it out. Missed an opportunity.
Jody I know you haven’t posted in awhile(9 days wya) but I just want to leave this here just in case you do see this. You’ve been a big help you’ve inspired me, thank you for all the tips in each video. I just got confirmation and I leave April 9th for basic, much love to you sir🫡
Hey Jody, I'm going to basic right after I graduate high school this year, your channel gave me a lot of great advice on money management and lifestyle. Thank you
lol I’m from San Angelo sorry you had to be here 😂😂 you right tho not much to do here but if you find the right crowd you’ll have a good time 🤙🏾 I’ve met some pretty cool military people over the years
Hey Jody I am in college, I don’t like my degree at all, and I’ve been thinking of going into the Air Force. Should I take a pause and join if I can? I’m contacting my recruiter, but I had a small hold from last visit to meps. I have a couple of job ideas, I’m ready to take hold on my career
Honestly, I wish I had the opportunity back in the day to join the space force, they only have 6 bases in the whole world they can be stationed at, but they always have apartments off base with no room mates. Very elite. Uniforms are weird I agree, but so what, good professional. Skills ability to work in any major corporation when you get out.
When I went to Tech school at Goodfellow back in 2007, there were hardly any restaurants or things to do there. I have been back there over the last couple of years, and it has a lot more restaurants and a couple new microbreweries. But like you said, the people that you are stationed with can make or break your time at that base. So go out and make new friends instead of staying indoors and gaming all day.
I got extremely lucky being stationed at JB Charleston for my first station. Apparently it’s highly sought after. But everyone I’ve talked to about assignments had said the same thing, it’s what you make of it. Which it sounds like you know that on a personal level
Hey Jody, appreciate all the videos you make. Can you make a video about how to cross train in the AF? Or If you already did let me know. Thank you and God bless🙏🏼
I’ve been watching your videos for a couple weeks and I’ve recently been thinking about joining after high school but I keep thinking about missing out on my prime years in life and just wondering on your thoughts about the situation?
I cross trained out of Intel into security forces as a SNCO. And I’ve said this a billion times. Every place has 3 things. Location, mission, people. Find something you enjoy out of those three. And if you can find 2 hou have a great base. And if you have all 3 that’s the best.
For anyone trying to join, just remember base is luck of the draw. Jody, correct me if I’m wrong but I think you have no say in what base you get. I put all overseas on my dream sheet and got Barksdale AFB. Its not a bad base at all tho.
There’s mixed reviews on the dream sheet process. Basically, it comes down to the air force needs. What they’ll do is start with locations where they need manning. Then they’ll look at your list. If there’s anything on your list that matches locations where they need manning, you’ll get that location. If your list has no locations the Air Force needs filled, at that point you’ll go wherever they need you.
Question: I’m looking into going into SF. I’m thinking about putting NJ, Maryland, DE on my dream sheet, as it’d be close to my family in PA. Are those bases good and would I have a good chance of getting one of them?
Yes, that first base can make such a difference. I got frozen, nothing to do, but go camping Montana with cold 10 moths out of the year. A buddy got Minot, North Dakota. We tried everything to leave, even put in world wide and no luck. We all got out and I did go reserves, but realize years later, that I was really made for active duty, but lacked the maturity to see past the first few years. I knew like one Airman who reenlisted out of maybe 20 and it all had to do with doing time there with no hope for years to leave, if we had reenlisted. I knew a couple who had been there 6 years and still no leaving. We jokingly called it getting paroled. I know someone has to go to the hell holes, but you sure hate it to be you as it can change so much of your future in the wrong direction.
I was in from 1979-1999 with only 5 base assignments. As far as best base, everyone has a different criteria, be it about what's outside of the gate or what's going on inside the gate. here are my 4 base assignments and what i thought about them. My job, Infight Air Refueling (Boom Operator). In SAC, most tanker and bomber bases were up north, so for me, it was all about weather, and things to do outside the gate. (McConnell, Castle, March, Kadena, & Travis), all bases have or had a very large population within 10 mile radius of the base. (at McConnell, i was stationed with Sinbad. we did the same job and 44 years later, i STILL consider him one my dearest friends. At Castle, i was stationed, and knew, Cheryl Underwood. If March AFB (near Riverside, CA) wasn't on the hit list to close, I NEVER would have left it. Everyone has to make their own decision about their assignment. And like Lady_O said, Each base is about the people you connect with. Also about overseas assignments, bases can be good too if you can easily acquire Space-A travel in and out.
I wanna go to Hurlburt field but my partner is at Eglin afb (30 mins away). Can i specify i'd rather go there than to her base Eglin, on the joint spouse application? im currently at tinker
Im 21 Y/O married with a 2 Y/O son, I work a dead end fast food job 90 hours a week to barely scrape bye and I want more in life. I’ve been dieting and exercising for 2 years now and have went from 350 LBS to 225 LBS and I am going to join the Air Force in 6 months when my wife graduates but I’m scared to do so because the only skills I have are flipping burgers and chickens and I just have no idea what to do. Any advice?
Wow what a great journey! It might be easy to look at your civilian career and think you might not be bringing a lot to the table. The biggest asset you are bringing into the Air Force is YOU! Nobody else has the same gifts as you. It doesn’t matter if all you did was flip burgers, you have just as much right to g to I through basic and get a job as anybody else. And it sounds like to me that you b know how to apply yourself and you work hard. Those are two really important skills! Keep your head up high and look forward to where you are going not where you have been.
Bro! Shipping off to BMT April 4. I saw you use the Braun s9 foil shaver on another video I think...can I use this at BMT? It's the only thing I use that I don't bump up with.
Question, I am joining the National Guard and I have sworn in and signed my contract for emergency management. I had my first drill weekend last month and got to see a lot of what I will be doing over those drill weekends. It looks extremely boring and mundane. Is there anyway to change jobs? I have not received basic training or tech school dates yet. My official request for training dates were just put in last month.
Hey Jody, I love your videos! I’ve heard that in certain cases first time recruits can get an age waiver if they’re older than the max age of entry. Is this true, and if so what is the oldest you’ve ever experienced/heard of?
Please Jody I really need help. Can I switch my recruiter? Despite my dedicated efforts over the past 5 months to lose weight and body fat amid stress and depression, my current recruiter takes more than a week to respond to a question. I had to drive 1 hour and 20 minutes for a body fat measurement last week, and despite his sick leave, I still haven't received the results. I'm eager to join the USAF; is there a way to have someone else assist me promptly?
@@Jodywithawhy Thx for the reply but nah man it’s because I was approached my a girl saying she wanted to join the AF after seeing my DEP shirt on. She told me she had lupus but I still motivated her to join some day. I was just wondering if she’ll be qualified and eventually join the AF.
So ive watched your videos and need some help. So im 18 and graduate Hs this semester, ive taken my ASVAB already and am talking to a Airforce recruiter. So far i dont hear much lies, He says its recommended to take a 6 year contract due to the accelerated Ranking after tech school and that i need to make a list of 10 jobs right now. i just got my composite scores back so im working on my job list right now. But while talking to him he said if i want to go the airforce route i can do a prescreening for medical and submit medical records so that when i do go to MEPS and medical it speeds up the process, my first question is this a trap or his he being fr, my next thing was. Is it good to have a recruiter that flat out said "tbh idc if u join or dont, if you want to talk to the army i can take u there myself but if you join the airforce then you gotta be 100% about joining" is this a bait to get me to join or does this mean i have a good and honest recruiter.(sorry for the rant, im just trying to figure things out and needed some help)
Your recruiter is 100% being real. If they do your medical now, it will speed up the process later so don’t be worried about that. Also, if your recruiter says they don’t care, that means they’re not wasting time with anyone. They’re moving on to the next person who’s serious about joining. Based off of what you said, your recruiter hasn’t said anything which should make you concerned. Matter of fact, your recruiter sounds competent and knowledgeable. So if you’re serious about joining, take their advice. I hope that helps and good luck.
I don’t. I always hear good things, but personally not familiar. You should be fine though. Just make sure you’re getting out and taking advantage of the area
Recruiter: Why are u joining the AF? Me: (answer) Jody Recruiter: 🤔🤔🤔 ''I am not a member of the DOD. I am a teacher, I am their MTI😅. If I get a chance to join the AF I will not think twice. Babaeee stay beautiful.''
Joined AF 3 weeks before my 33rd birthday with a bachelors. Definitely not too old but be prepared to feel old when everyone in your flight is in their late teens early 20s lol SN you can still book some decent jobs with a 69.
I would work from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Then I would workout from 2:30-3:30. Then I would shower and hit the beach, or hit a club. Those were my single days. Eventually I got married, and that changed, but my early days were exactly that.
Coming from maintenance into intel, the people and cultures are different. I just made it up in my mind everyone in intel were nerds and I wouldn’t vibe. The friends I made at tech school proved that wrong.
Yo I can't believe I made a JodywithaWhy video!! For real brotha. That time period is just about unmatched in my AF career. I STILL remember that first convo we had and the look on your face when I told you I was your roommate.

I’ve been on Hurlburt, I actually bowl league there sometimes. That base is AMAZING.
Bro. Lol our crew in San Angelo was so eclectic and everybody was cool. That was one of my best times in the AF
Bro. For real for real. I still can’t believe San Angelo was that fun. That was the last thing I was thinking when I found out I had to go there. Lol
Every base that I've been to, I've loved, because I make it what I want it to be. Currently at Yokota and don't have a tribe here yet, but I like what it provides me right now in my career.
Spot on video brotha. One of my best assignments as well. You forgot we ended up going to our first intel assignment together as well!
Remember we started looking at mansions cause we were gonna pool our bah together? Lol
Bro y’all did. lol. Yall went and stayed in them penthouse apartment complexes inside the mall. lol.
I feel the same way. I was at DYESS though. Right down the street. I use to drive to San Angelo to kick it with an intel girl
Jody I know you haven’t posted in awhile(9 days wya) but I just want to leave this here just in case you do see this. You’ve been a big help you’ve inspired me, thank you for all the tips in each video. I just got confirmation and I leave April 9th for basic, much love to you sir🫡
Ayeee. That’s what’s up. I’m glad I could help, and I’m wishing you much success through the rest of your journey. Good luck. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@Jodywithawhy thanks man
My asvab results came in at 96 overall. 95 M, 92 A, 98 G, 96 E. No idea what I want to do.
Hey Jody, I'm going to basic right after I graduate high school this year, your channel gave me a lot of great advice on money management and lifestyle. Thank you
I’m glad I could help. I hope everything works out for you, and thanks for supporting. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thanks
lol I’m from San Angelo sorry you had to be here 😂😂 you right tho not much to do here but if you find the right crowd you’ll have a good time 🤙🏾 I’ve met some pretty cool military people over the years
Hey Jody I am in college, I don’t like my degree at all, and I’ve been thinking of going into the Air Force. Should I take a pause and join if I can? I’m contacting my recruiter, but I had a small hold from last visit to meps. I have a couple of job ideas, I’m ready to take hold on my career
Sounds like Barksdale. Constant party in the 90's. Great team members but supervision was on the "Good ole boy" system.
Stationed at Barksdale AFB 84-87…PARTY CITY !!! Supply Squad….
I was at RAF Lakenheath 3 years, the people make it !!
Sturdy for my asvab hope i can pass next 2 weeks
I was stationed at Goodfellow AFB for a year in '70's, obviously things have changed. Back then it was a desolate place, friends or no friends.
😂😂😂😂.
At least it wasn't -40 in January, like Malmstrom
I’m at Goodfellow cause I am intel… well not anymore lol. There’s things to do if you have friends
Jody what can you say about tinker afb im getting stationed there
Near OKC and just 2 hours north of Dallas. Not bad overall.
Thank u for your service
My first assignment is Eielson Alaska, ever been?
I heard the max age to enlist is 42. I'm 42 years old now, Does that mean I can enlist? Thank you for any info.
Lol breaking bad a masterpiece ngl 😂
Frfr. Better call Saul was great too.
Question: I’m looking into going into SF. I’m thinking about putting NJ, Maryland, DE on my dream sheet, as it’d be close to my family in PA. Are those bases good and would I have a good chance of getting one of them?
Ngl you got me to join the AF and it was worth it. However you never tie me about Security Forces 🌚😂
Your recruiter is your best bet.
what’s good bases back in state for security forces?
Hey Jody, I love your videos! I’ve heard that in certain cases first time recruits can get an age waiver if they’re older than the max age of entry. Is this true, and if so what is the oldest you’ve ever experienced/heard of?
This isn’t true. Only for doctors. But everyone else the age limit is 42 years old.
appreciate u jody!!! ur the reason i enlisted. shoutout my 2w031s.
The real base was the friends we made along the way
so i have a heart murmur as a kid but nothing major just heart specialist as a kid to make sure i was doing good whould that disqualify me
Please Jody I really need help.
What was your intel AFSC? I just left Goodfellow AFB a couple months ago
Jody, can you join the AF with lupus?? Thx man
I’ve never seen anyone successful with it, but if anyone has successfully entered the Air Force with Lupus, please share your experience.
Soesterberg Afb in the Netherlands!!!!
Please I want to know, How long do you have to serve in the Air Force before you can go on retirement, I want to know the minimum.
20 years
When do you do your base dream sheet? I’m leaving for basic on April 2nd
At BMT
@@pep590 I did it at tech school. Thanks tho bro
@@ShagWitTheBag Wow, that was later than I, but I go back a few years. You're very welcome and hope all is going well for you in the USAF.
@@pep590 so far so good! At tech school for another 2.5 months. Loving what I’m learning Thankyou for the best wishes. Hope you’re doing well also
Currently stationed at Goodfellow, enjoying your informative content! 🫡
@@Jodywithawhythank you(edit), how good was geospatial intel, it’s on my list and was curious.
Hey are you still recruiting?
i’m headed to ramstein next month do you know anything about that base ?
I don’t. I always hear good things, but personally not familiar. You should be fine though. Just make sure you’re getting out and taking advantage of the area
Start studying for your driver's license test ASAP
Ramstein is one of the most popular bases outside of the US! Bet you are loving it now. Deutschland!
I ship out Feb 20 for fire protection how hard is bmt?
Too easy
Westover
Recruiter: Why are u joining the AF?
Me: (answer) Jody
Recruiter: 🤔🤔🤔
''I am not a member of the DOD. I am a teacher, I am their MTI😅. If I get a chance to join the AF I will not think twice. Babaeee stay beautiful.''
Hey do you think joining the reserves at 32 with a bachelor’s is too old? I got a 69 on my asvab
Joined AF 3 weeks before my 33rd birthday with a bachelors. Definitely not too old but be prepared to feel old when everyone in your flight is in their late teens early 20s lol SN you can still book some decent jobs with a 69.
You will be looked up to to help the young kids. You are valuable. WE don't need a flight of only teenagers.
Dirty water? More like NastyWater! Yup, I've been there... It's the middle of nowhere but the people are great there.
Have you been to Guam?
I haven’t. I’ve always wanted to, but haven’t been lucky.
I have some question about the air force. What's your office number?
Question: is 25 to old to join the military?
No, it's the perfect age. I'm not kidding.
When you first joined the Air Force what was your daily life like.
I would work from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Then I would workout from 2:30-3:30. Then I would shower and hit the beach, or hit a club. Those were my single days. Eventually I got married, and that changed, but my early days were exactly that.
@@Jodywithawhy also what was like life like on deployment if you have ever been deployed
I made a video about it. ua-cam.com/video/TMy4lVN2dLw/v-deo.htmlsi=499lhEh4vt9RPmpy
Why didn't you feel like you could vibe with them when you 1st got there ???
Coming from maintenance into intel, the people and cultures are different. I just made it up in my mind everyone in intel were nerds and I wouldn’t vibe. The friends I made at tech school proved that wrong.
@@Jodywithawhy would have been better if you learned not to negatively judge people because of stereotypes...instead of being "proven wrong"
Chair FARCE.... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
