    Blackout curtains are good, but an even bigger game-changer is wearing a good quality sleep mask. Curtains are typically room-specific, but you can wear a sleep mask anywhere.

    If I could go back to the dorms. I would buy myself a nice wardrobe and car and save everything else. Pinch every penny. You make so much free money and nothing to spend on. It's prime time to save.

    WOW! You could be like the "GOOD OLD DAYS", two men to a room, different working shifts, one roommate is a smoker, a boozer, druggie. Latrine down the hall, bay orderly, a small refrigerator in the room shared, vomit in the latrine down the hall, showering with your buddies down the hall, and did I mention smokers? Stereo wars at 02:00, getting your car dented by some drunk in the parking lot, the chow hall, the mail room a half mile away,. Oh, and the First Shirt's room inspection and 08:30 after you get back from the grave yard shift out on the stinky flight line? Oh, and having "health and welfare" checks (drug searches) SP dudes, dogs and the like. Living in the dorms is so fun except at Osan way back when they had houseboys to do all that work. All that when you are an E-3 or E-4 and your married counterparts get BAS - BAQ, live off base or in family housing on base - Peyton Place. Yes, the life of a lower ranking airman.

    How long do you have to stay in dorms until you’re able to get into your own apartment(housing)?

    • @daustinrichards
      @daustinrichards Рік тому +5

      It depends on your rank coming in. If you come in as an E3, you can get out sooner than an E1.
      The dorms are for E4 and below.
      Age is also a factor, especially with college experience. If you're 25 and up, and have college to come in at an advanced rank, you can put on a list to be moved out of the dorms early. As soon as 6 months

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  Рік тому +3

      It’s usually three years or less. The dorms usually have a list where you can request early out, but people with more rank usually top the list.

    • @golfery5119
      @golfery5119 Рік тому +2

      @@daustinrichards "The dorms are for E4 and below. "
      I have said COUNTLESS times that I really wish I had known this detail before joining the Army..
      As you might know, in the Army, if youre lucky, in some cases you might be allowed to get out the barracks as an E5, but more likely than not, you wouldn't be allowed to get out of the barracks unmarried until you are E6 (if you make it that far because not everybody gets to that rank and for that matter not everybody makes it to E5), and there have been soldiers who have had to stay in the barracks for 8 to 10 years.
      When was training with airmen at fort sam houston, I actually heard one of the airman say he couldnt wit to get married as soon as possible so that would be the sooner he could be allowed out the dorms when he got operational. Like the fact that Air Force will let you out the dorms at 3 years MAX isnt soon enough for him. I dont think a lot of people in the Air Force just dont realize how good they have it compared to the other branches.
      You said "Age is also a factor," That is also just unbelievable. My last roommate, who was younger than me and was 28, complained that at our age we should not have to be in the barracks just because we're not married. I was so desensitized to it that I had turned my mind off and just accepted it.
      In the Army, even if you are a 40 year old man, as long as you are not married and you are lower enlisted, you still will have to remain in the barracks until you are E6 or maybe E5 if you are lucky.

    Hey nice video! I’ve been doing research into all of the branches because i was thinking of joining. I was wondering if you could answer a question I have?
    I’m in my senior year and I might enlist. If I enlist in the airforce I wanted to have a financial/accounting job, I’ll have an accounting certificate before i graduate high school. Do you think that’ll help me get that job?

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  Рік тому

      I definitely think the accounting certificate will help. You can request what they call a “competency booking” with that certificate. You’d basically show your recruiter you have it, and see if they can directly book the job for you.
      There’s no guarantee they’d be able to, and may even not work with you if the only way you’ll join is by getting that job. So you have to keep that in mind when talking with a recruiter.
      Recruiters at least want you to list 7-10 jobs, that way if they’re not able to get you your number 1 job, at least they have back ups. I hope that makes sense and helps. Good luck. 🙌🏽

    I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45..............
