I’m actually really grateful for your KotLC vlogs. This series has always been one of my favorites, but, as time went on, I forgot all about its magic, and how it pulled me right through its pages and into this fantastical world full of amazing characters and relationships and a really heartfelt story in the center of it all. I forgot about all the crazy shenanigans Sophie and the gang got into that I laughed out loud to days after I read them, that I sometimes cried to at night, that brought something out of me that a lot of the best books out there couldn’t.
I forgot it all, and… I just slapped the “childhood favorite” tag on it and moved on.
But these videos remind me of everything I ever loved and will always love about the Keeper of the Lost Cities, and these videos got me to pick the series up again and go on another wild ride with Sophie.
So, from the bottom of my heart, *thank you* ❤️

I actually really liked the quietness of Flashback. It felt like the slightly more relaxed book that we, and the characters, needed in the midst of everything that has been happening
To me it felt boring with no payoff

I am so waiting for book 9. The cliffhanger of Unlocked pushed me at a level of suspense I have never experienced before. It's second time in the whole series that Keefe abandons Team Prodigious. First time when he joins the Neverseen and second time to explore his abilities in the Forbidden Cities. I am in suspense for the expression of Sophie when she will discover his letter of farewell. That would be priceless.

The kiss between Dex and Sophie was remniscient of Blue and Noah from the Raven Boys. You read that, right? I thought it was such a beautiful thing to do. Having best friends experience vulnerabilities together safely. Anyway, very wholesome stuff. It made my heart expand :)

I can't wait to watch your vlog! I went through all of this two years ago, and I've been completely obsessed with this series ever since. It's so complex and intertwined, I love that although the council is working with Sophie, the "good guys" are still against them. The whole reason for all of this is because their world needs changing, the black swan and the neverseen both realize that. It's just the ways they have decided to reach that goal that seperate them.

that “Keeper of the Lost Cities (KotLC; KOTLC) is a YA fantasy book series written by Shannon Messenger, and currently has 8 books.” so i thought it was YA since it said that.
@@purvi6568 Middle Grade is 8-12 and YA is 12-18. There might have been a mix up.
@@purvi6568 If you go to her wikipedia it says she writes middle grade series Keeper of the Lost Cities and if you watch a couple of her interviews, she says its middle grade.

just binged all your Keeper vlogs! so glad to find a booktuber who loves the series as much as i do :) i’m one of the very few fans who’s #1 is Fitz lol. i do agree that he could’ve been written better though and i’ve gotten frustrated with that a lot. even though they were too long and didn’t need to be there i loved all the hospital moments because SO MUCH FITZPHIE CONTENT OML. and the scene where he reveals his feelings had me SQUEALING. i do think ultimately Keefe is better for her though and even though i initially didn’t like it out of loyalty to Fitzphie i’ve found a way to love their relationship as much as i love Fitz and her when i reread the series. i liked the kind of quiet, uneventful feel of Flashback while reading it but it in hindsight it could’ve been a lot better and Shannon could’ve done a lot more with it than she did. i’m worried that the end of the series is gonna feel too rushed given that there’s only 9 books and so little happened in 7. (haven’t read 8.5 yet so maybe that’ll change how i feel)
I just ordered books 1-5 and I’m so excited to get into KotLC!
GUYS the unmatchable thing bothers me so much. Is the problem that not knowing who her parents are makes it harder to figure out if she’s distantly related to someone? Bc if that’s the concern then WHY CAN’T THEY JUST USE HER OWN DNA TO FIGURE THAT OUT?

Low-key, Flashback was my favorite 😕🖤 It served to further develop the characters. So MANY KEEFE lines. (Which are obviously to die for) We really go into Sophie's journey with her mental health. I thought it was very well done.
Flashback is not my fav but I do really like it I think the book made us feel for Sophie an another level that we already do plus keefe was so cute in that book and even though there break was because they got really hurt but they got a kinda break

Tbh I think Shannon Messenger is afraid of losing readers if she adds LGBTQ representation since it’s middle grade. I heard that Rick Riordan lost readers after he confirmed that Nico was gay in HoA. But that was back in 2014 so idk 🤷♂️ I still think she should add the representation since the world is more accepting
awww marlinh has her readers heart, and tbh most of her readers are older anyway so i doubt she will loose that much.

fitz character was completely butchered and shannon kinda just gave up on him and made anger issues his personality which is kinda messed up
I agree with the point you made where we don’t really see lady Gisella’s motivations unlike someone in the neverseen like alvar or the dude Jolie liked. (wow I actually forgot his name it’s seriously been a while since I read this) I really hope she gets more of a backstory in book nine because I don’t really get her motivations and I seriously feel that needs to be resolved.

In my opinion, book 8 was not the best (mainly because the side characters were barely in it) but 8.5 is amazing!!!!

Yes I feel Fitz is not developing a lot, but I do feel like he will. I honestly can see him trying to change, trying to hold his anger. But I kinda get him why he is being a bit selfish. He has been the Golden boy all his life, then suddenly everything just changed with his father in Exile, with the BS, and his brother and all. Whereas keefe is used to all of this from the cruelty of his father and so on. I love both of themmm sooo much but I really do wish people stop hating on Fitz. Okay if you hate Alden it doesn’t mean you should hate him. I personally want Sophie as an independent woman😂
I liked fitz till book 4 then he just started being a shitty friend to Keefe especially since keefe goes so far because of their "friendship" and honestly I like fitz better as a friend for Sophie

I kind of wish that Mr Forkle stayed dead in this series. I know the Mr Forkle from Lodestar ACTUALLY died but it still has the same energy as the resurrecting characters trope that I hate. Nightfall kind of ruins the emotional ending of Lodestar and his death could’ve been a good transitional period in the series. Sophie now can’t rely on him for info and now will have to navigate it on her own with her friends. Or maybe Tiergan could’ve taken up the Mr Forkle role.
