Mike Mielke - thank you so much for your kind words and comment. We really appreciate the love and support. Have a wonderful evening and hope to see you down the road.
I’m in the middle of binge watching your videos. I’m probably 9-10 videos in and I can confidently your pup is living his best life. He looks like he is loving his life outdoors. 😁
I just found your channel 2 days ago... since then, I have watched hours of your show! I was looking for inspiration to take my wife and two kiddos overlanding for an extended period of time and didn't find many who did it with kids. Thank you for taking my inspiration to shopping for parts for our 2011 JKU! IF you have any "DONT LEAVE WITHOUT" items - let me know!
Great show! Beautiful, adventurous scenery. Love the fact that you get all the different angles. Keeps it interesting and gives a full perspective. Stay safe and keep em' coming!
Sorry you lost you’re drones. My experience with mavics: Change your setting on the drone to hover instead of landing when losing remote signal! Also, turn off return to home when shooting from moving jeeps. Best wishes!
Indeed, sucks sorry to see. Suggest also if you have time and you stated a 1 days drive...get on the DJI site under blogs will be many to assist you in locating from the last point of signal. Will be able to get coordinates that will get you I believe up to 2' away from where it is currently. Believe is a special feature in your controller where to access but will be some good folks to assist. Just personally moved away from DJI (zero privacy & they program where you fly and cannot) and went with a new US mfg'r name Skydio...mind boggling. Best in film quality (4k) and can use what they call a beacon that you can toss in your pocket if solo on a trail head. Can get up to 32 mph before she begins to lose contact (found out in my X3). Turned around to last known position and she had stopped and was hovering. Is totally A.I. driven, nearly 360 degree collision avoidance, is nuts. $999 w/out controller options. Best gig on the market currently but major B/O's. Is another company out of CA with a look alike DJI but don't remember the name Evo I believe. The old 3DR Solo is a bit on the large size but can be had for $250 avg. Attch GoPro and all set. Still a very good unit and a decent following. Hope this helps, find your downed Mavic!! Keep up the great vids!! Wife and I headed out in May with our loaded up JKU, 23 Zero RTT & new 270 Awning and HAM setup to Texas for 2 wks as has been 2 yrs since last overland, very excited. Viper1 -Hi there. Thank you for these excellent suggestions. And make money we will definitely try the DJI for as suggested. We will also look at the Skydio option. That sounds very interesting and you sure can’t beat American made. Thank you for taking the time to help us out here. Much appreciated. Have a wonderful day!
@@EFRT No thank you for the great vids of your travels....Your drone is not lost for good. Just have your boys get on DJI as meantioned and your will see what exact file you need to get the last coordinates your UAV communicated before the battery finished. Am hoping the phone will not matter but only the UAV and controller. I will look as well...Keep us posted on your search.
So sorry about the drones, and of course more so about the lost footage. I agree with one of the other comments you received. I’ll bet if you could give folks the last GPS location you had, your viewers would turn it into an Epic Family “Easter Egg” hunt. It’s worth a shot 🙃🙃
I just came across your channel and subscribed and hit the notification Bell, Love the family values, I saved for years on my DJI Phantom drone, First flight, Epic failure. Feel for ya !!
The easiest way to forget the pain of losing equipment is to replace it quickly. It happens to all of us. Evaluate your drone’s ‘Go Home’ settings if that’s where it got lost in flight. Also improve your data backup routines.
Thanks for video!!!!! As always epic!!!! Sorry y'all have had a run of bad luck on drones! Oh come on Pete Jr would of rammed it haha . For real good choice don't need to damage anything. Some very epic country side!!!!!!!!!!! One day I was cleaning tail lights and marker lights on a semi trailer that was dirty from winter slush. An old trucker said don't do that, makes the DOT inspector think your guilty of something. Sure enuf got pulled over on that run......... Lol
You should share were abouts you lost your drone , some one may find it then and return it to you . Lost mine once and put up a flier at the camp ground and store about 20 miles away , with where about I lost it , two months later got a call . some one had found it , and remembered seeing the flyer and called to return it to us . The neat think about it is we meat some awesome people we would never have met other wise .now every summer we meet up and camp with them . From Steve stott in sutherlin Oregon U.S,A..... P.S. thanks for another great video during these times .
Another great video, except for the loss. I've been eye balling the fire shield for some time now, no matter the price it's worth it specially if it's a daily use and it still looks like new... 🤠
Great video once again. ! Well done on the Trails and trying to get thru the snow etc. Your perseverance and checking conditions before driving in blind are great habits ! I don’t think I’ve ever seen you guys stuck before ? Live and Learn always with the Drones and Life, maybe it’s time for cheaper drones that are simpler to operate ? Travel Safe !! 🙏🇨🇦❤️🌲
Sorry on your lost drones agreed with a previous comment set the drone to hover when lost signal. An option on the replacement contact DJI support and if the lost isn't covered by warranty they may be able to sell you the body only, you may get a brand new or refurbished drone since you already have the rest of the equipment. It happened to me last year and I just got direct from them a drone by itself and paired to my current control and went flying again. Hope it helps wont hurt to ask and if it works is a more cost effective solution. Good luck and thanks for sharing your adventure.
wescot - that’s a great suggestion. That’s something I will look into as well. We have plenty of batteries and two controllers and a whole bunch of rotors now for the Mavic pro so that sounds like a nice option. Have a wonderful day.
That’s a tuff hit and your grief was evident. Good idea to establish a drone usage protocol just like you’d have protocol for camp break down or set up or even per trail vehicle inspection. I’m sure you ‘ll establish some standards and your drone game will improve thus the overall experience benefits. Thanks for the vid and honestly anxious too see lake life!
Do you have the DJI Care Refresh ? Fairly inexpensive considering the alternative and offers up to 2 replacements in one year as long as you are able to find the crashed drone. I would also activate the iPhone screen recording feature while you are flying. The pre- crash footage will likely give you some additional clues as to where the drone is plus the extra benefit of still being able to salvage some shots (albeit in lower res). Lastly, if you are shooting video on the move, don't forget to set the Return To Home to the location of your remote so that if RTH activates it will not accidentally return to its take-off spot. Keep up the great work!
The drone will log the last coordinates before switching off, you can check the coordinates via the app and put it into any phone will put you in a couple of feet of the lost drone, hope that helps
Love watching your videos! Sorry about your drone trouble and lost footage. One tip, tap the editor button in the DJI Go app on the device you flew with, you will probably find your clips in 720p resolution as the app is grabbing the video feed while flying. Mine does, and the video quality might bw good enough for YT in a pinch 🙂
Thank you for the great footage. Maybe look into an Autel Robotics Evo? Doesn't need a phone to see where you're going. At the same time, I'm sorry you lost both drones like that. It sure isn't any fun.
Great country you have in BC! Hate losing or crashing a drone - I've been there, done that :( I always backup SD cards at the end of each day (fairly obvious I know, but easy to forget) Some of the other comments mention the Mavic Mini - its a great little back up drone that's quick and easy to deploy but is susceptible to wind. Pretty cheap and the footage is great.
This is the first video of yours I've watched and so glad I found it. I love your beautiful dog...has a great personality. Sorry about your drone. I just bought one and have no idea how to operate it so I'll be watching tutorials on You Tube for a while. It's wonderful you are able to get out and enjoy nature. I love where I live but it's rather "landlocked" with this lock down. Hopefully, we'll have some good news in a week or so.
How I wish someone is more than willing to take on to a road trip and camping like yours. I am from the Philippines, an avid fun of EPIC Family Road Trip
Shoot guys sorry to hear about this crazy situation with the drone... However, there is a solution. On DJI Mavics (all of them) in the settings for the return to home options you need to change the return to home point to Dynamic. This will return the drone to the last CONTROLLER position. 🤞 This will be the last time you guys loose it. Love the energy and spirit you all bring to these vids. Thanks a lot for taking us all for the ride. All the best from sunny 🌞 but quarantined Miami.
I have a mavic, you can once phone is charged, pull up the app and it should tell you where the drone was last and you can follow to the location, i just recently was flying over a river and my drone went into emergency landing 1.6 miles from me and i was able to drive ti the area in my jeep and track the drone and located it by walking thru the az desert for 45 minutes .
I know I'm coming in late on this, as I am a new subscriber .....but for future reference, the DJI drones will default back to their original way point where they were launched if they ever loose a signal, or run low on battery. If this ever happens again, turn around and work your way back down the trail to where you launched it. P. S., I've been binge watching your videos to catch up to where you are now, and I thoroughly enjoy your videos...God Bless
Well since you lost your drones (two 2mavic pro I guess?) maybe you can order two new mavic mini? It's not the same thing of course, but the saving is huge and the drone it self is pretty darn good ! Anyway, drive safe guys!
Your overlanding reminds me of a military operation. Bags, strapped on top of bags, on the roof, crammed inside, overloaded, and full. Watch out for IUD’s and RPG’s. Don’t eat all your MRE’s, save some to trade with. Treat the locals with respect, keeping your guns out. Don’t liter, or hesitate to blow the crap out of whatever is lying in the road. Always recon unknown situations. Call in air support ‘just because.’ And always, always, keep your objective in mind! ... HAVE FUN and don’t die!
Feel your pain Just lost my Mavic enterprise in the lake, she was only 271 feet from me and 360 up and all the sudden aircraft disconnected it said and crash in the lake. No recovery so I am out $1900. Luv the video stay safe
So sorry about the drones, big loss for sure. Try the Mavic Air 2 this time around. For driving in the snow this time of year you need to lower the tires to 4 psi, Just don't steer hard or hit a log with the wheel turned as the tire will come off the bead, go slow and steady and you'll be fine. 3 decades off road and going. CHEERS Steve h.
Where do u get the epic family knife? I hunt with dogs and have gps collars that go on them if u could attach one to your drone you could track it just a thought
Come to Saudi Arabia you and your family will have a good, happy journey that you want not find any place it full with land desert, beautiful mauntent on the south and an Elephant Rock on Ala.
Y’all need to learn your drone functions. This is why setting a drones return to home point is important and also setting the return to home point altitude to avoid trees. Even without your phone alive, if you press the return to home button it will return to the home point. Could have saved you $4000 by knowing this. I had to do it in Iceland a couple times because the cold killed the phone battery
Unfortunately you lost 2 drones. Maybe it is possible to put a gps tracker on your new drone so you can find him with your phone when it crashes again. I like your footages . Best regards, Olav.
OK EFRT. You have provide so much quality viewing for us, it's now time for us to entertain you!!!!! Question time! At 0.54, 'Name The Movie'???????? If you (or viewers) need a clue, then here goes. Quote from movie = "106 miles from Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas. Half a packet of cigarette. Its dark and were wearing sunglasses. Enjoy :-)
Just wondering with the two Jeeps traveling so much together have you thought about adding mud flaps? Have you not run into stone chips with those rock magnet windshields?
Hello from fellow Ontarian... Gotta ask about the tires and the Milestar Pat. MT's...I have a JKU and it runs 80% on the road in southern Ontario and I am curious if i should be even considering the Mt's or should I step down to the XT extremes for better on road performance in rain and slushy snow..? Any thoughts? Love the channel and keep up the travels, be safe travel safe!
Hi there. We have been very impressed with our MTs We have gone about 10,000 km now on the road and also off-road through mud, rocks and deep snow. If you’re doing a good mix of on and off road the MTs are great. Hope that helps
I’m noticing lately that a lot of DJI drones are falling out of the sky’s or gps doesn’t pick up location. I’m wondering if this is a trick to sell more drones. I have the original mavic pro and no issues yet. The lost footage should be saved on the DJi app. Check there guys Keep up the adventure
Thanks, yes we were able to recover some of the footage from the app. Yes, we don’t know what’s up with DJI but we are looking at the Skydio www.skydio.com Have fun and thanks for leaving a comment. 👍🏻
Its good to see you people living my dream life and also the determination to move forward , sorry to hear about your financial loss. I would like know, apart from youtube stuff what other jobs you do to live on.
I just noticed you have cloth seats in one Jeep and leather in the other. Which do you prefer and why? I like leather seats as a general preference, but wondered if I'd regret it especially if the top is down often.I'd love to hear your input after all your traveling experience. I'm not so concerned with the durability or cleanliness as much as over all seat of the pants comfort. cheers
Question: IS there any Information on the DRONE ...IF one day in Future another Person may Find ... and be ABLE to contact YOU for return of data card ?? .... LIKE your Positive attitude ... and Totally agree with same
John PLunkett - hi John. Yes, hopefully if someone finds it they will be able to return it to us based on the serial number and perhaps even the data on the card. That would be great 👍🏻
Bummer - Lost my own drone loaded with tracking high altitude footage. Walked in circles around the map location, but never saw it. I know that feeling in your pit of the stomach. Good for you to shrug it off and move forward.
Hope someone finds your drone and is honest enough to contact you to get your footage back to you, and maybe a functioning drone. Cheers and stay safe. - Pierre Dubois, Hawkesbury, Ontario
Love the knife, but where can I order one? l tried to look for a link in this video but could not find it. I know you all talked about them in another video and could not remember which one. I know it was in one before you got your new Jeep. Thanks for any help and Stay Safe and love watching your videos!! Jerimey
The mavic mini is way cheaper and high quality. Most people are watching on monitors that only allow 1080p. If you have to have 4K options the Mavic Air is about 1/3 the cost of the pro with some awesome new features.
Can you link the company that made the knife in this episode? I didn't see it in the description. Thanks. P.s. love your content keep up the great work. Stay safe.
You are all so good and loving to Lando. He’s the luckiest dog to have a whole family that just adores him 💖💖💖💖💖💖

Hey beautiful people! Hello from Ft Myers Bch 💚💙💚💙💚💙🤙😎
OutDoorzFam - Hi guys! Enjoy the beach!
Epic Family Road Trip we wish, everything, everywhere still closed. Y’all be safe out there!
Lower your tire pressure when your going through snow it will make a world of difference.
Come to Saudi Arabia you and your family will have a good, happy journey that you want not find any place it full with land desert, beautiful mauntent on the south and an Elephant Rock on Ala.
Sounds awesome. We’ll add it to our list. 🇸🇦
Worsley is at home in that snow! Well tried to push through on ice anyway!
Thoroughly enjoyable what brand is that aluminium fire screen please👍
Hi there. It’s called the “Original Fire Reflector” available at:
www.mcranchoverland.com
Nice video and sad about the drones

Blues Brothers
Yes, I think Blues Brothers is right. Have a wonderful day!
Best send off ever! 🤣🤣🤣
Mikecolesvids 😆 glad you liked it.
I bet there are some viewers who would enjoy looking for the drone to recover the footage for you.
Check there guys
Keep up the adventure
Thanks, yes we were able to recover some of the footage from the app.
Yes, we don’t know what’s up with DJI but we are looking at the Skydio www.skydio.com
Have fun and thanks for leaving a comment. 👍🏻
Its good to see you people living my dream life and also the determination to move forward , sorry to hear about your financial loss. I would like know, apart from youtube stuff what other jobs you do to live on.
I am a professional speaker, but that is all on hold right now until in person conferences happen again. 👍🏻
😎👍
That would be great 👍🏻
You should get a brothers P touch labeler. and make labels with your information in case anything happens with your next drone
Bummer - Lost my own drone loaded with tracking high altitude footage. Walked in circles around the map location, but never saw it. I know that feeling in your pit of the stomach. Good for you to shrug it off and move forward.
What is the trident in the circle gear your son is wearing? Looks SO familiar but I can't place it.
Sorry for your loss. But it’s really good trip though. You really inpured me.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏻
Curious HOW does your Family Dog ... Get up and Down out of the rooftop tent ?
John PLunkett - we carry him up at night and he sleeps right till we get up in the morning. Then we carry him back down.
Jerimey
I’m interested in purchasing one of your knives as well. My husband would love it 😊
Good going Epic Campers what about something called “Find my drone”
hahaha true
The mavic mini is way cheaper and high quality. Most people are watching on monitors that only allow 1080p. If you have to have 4K options the Mavic Air is about 1/3 the cost of the pro with some awesome new features.
Can you link the company that made the knife in this episode? I didn't see it in the description. Thanks. P.s. love your content keep up the great work. Stay safe.
Learn from this and consider backing up your footage every day! Can’t hurt.
Mark Claypole - Yes definitely part of our new protocol.
Sad to hear you lost your secound quadcopter.
sOmeday I will get in to canada
Paint your drone ORANGE.
