I’ve been playing only Hollow Knight for the last few days and I can’t seem to get into it. It’s good, but it’s not like BotW where I couldn’t stop myself.
@@broshi1752 it's better than botw because dat game lacks in having a great story ( tho is not bad by all means it's quite enjoyable ) anyway it also suffers a little with mediocre and dissapointing bosses and the voice acting can be a bit off at times while hollow knight just perfectly nails every aspect of what a great game should be it's almost flawless a beautiful gem of work do explain the problem as to why u couldn't get into hollow knight in more detail
Mr. Hater Well first off, BotW’s voice acting is off because they can’t make the lips match seven different languages. Their mouths just move so it somewhat fits any language. As to why I can’t get into hallow Knight? My biggest problem is moving through the map. Sometimes I just want to get to a place, then I go there, then I have to walk all the way back, go to Dirtmouth to buy something, then go back to where I need to use a key or whatever. BotW gives you a warp all over from early on where as hallow knight I sometimes don’t wanna spend so much time just moving one place to another. Especially bosses. I hate when there is a big gap between a bench and a hard boss. It’s annoying as heck when I want just learn a boss’s moves but they kill me and then I spend more time walking back. I actually really enjoyed dream bosses like grey prince Zote. The boss is still hard, but I can actually focus on the boss instead of getting to him. And as for the story? I like good stories when the game itself is fun. I want to keep discovering more to the story, but it’s cheap bosses like Watched Knight that makes me want to just google the plot instead. Sorry to write an essay, but... I like hallow Knight, and I really want to live it, but I just can’t call it a perfect game like everyone else does. Edit: and I actually really enjoyed discovering new areas. One Saturday I played like 8 hours straight and I couldn’t stop because I was just unlocking all these new areas. Then I encountered a boss, fought it for an hour, then haven’t wanted to try again.
@@broshi1752 the game never feels tedious there's stag station's all over the map to fast travel don't know if u notice.... anyway the game is simply hard but fair it requires more skill and patience from the player something u seem to lack watcher knight isn't even dat cheap the game even let's u kill one of them in case it's too hard for u and if u find too much trouble with a boss u can always go someplace else this simply isn't a flaw i can consider being the game own fault it just wasn't ur cup of tea
I remember playing Castlevania 22 years ago, beating it, and being like "Wow, what a great game". After that my buddy and I figured out about the upside down castle and were like "WTF!". What a masterpiece.
I can confirm. After about 15 hours and defeating the final boss for the first time, I was considerably impressed by how well they created their individual atmospheres and their incredible combat system. Once I checked my completion, however, I found that I had only completed 63% of the game. This amazed me. After absorbing so much densely-packed content, I had only seen 63%? Because I was so satisfied with my experience playing, I set out to achieve 100% completion; I wanted to experience everything that it had to offer. Then, after going through once more and examining everything more closely, I got a very strong sense of how polished this game really was. Genuine quality is present all throughout the game. From the visuals to the plot to the exploration, it's awing. Never have I came close to a game that is so artistic.
True, when he brought it up onscreen for a second after dissing Yooka Laylee weeks ago, I bought Hollow Knight, now I owe it to him for introducing me to such an awesome game
Dunno if it's due to my computer (which would be weird since my PC has pretty good specs), but while the game runs smoothly enough normally, the frames just tank during combat. It's made the whole thing unplayable for me. Anyone have any ideas?
Hollow Knight totally lives up to the hype. It had been a while since I dumped like 40+ hours into a single player game with the exception of stuff like Xcom 2.
Everyone’s raving about Hollow Knight, and while I gotta say, for sure mastapiece, but I also gotta say, Castlevania Symphony of the Night is also a very good mastapiece that people should play, it’s the start of the metroidvania genre, and somehow still a celebration of everything to love in the genre, seriously, if you haven’t played this game, you’re doing yourself a disservice. (Same with Hollow Knight, but the entire comment section already recommended that)
Hollow knight's definitely a good game, and I'll give it a recommendation, but imo it's more frustrating at times than it is fun. The FUN part of the game is exploring new areas and overcoming challenges, and these parts of the game are superb. The NOT FUN part of the game is having to repeat 20 minutes of gameplay because the last bench/checkpoint was three miles back. The game also throws some prohibitively expensive items at you, meaning you have to hold on to your money for a long time. However, if you carry around a ton of unspent currency while exploring, you run the risk of losing it all if you die. Basically dying in this game feels SUPER terrible, and it happens quite a lot if you aren't familiar with the area. You can get your currency back at the spot you died, but if you die again before reaching it, poof, it's gone forever. They basically added a dark souls artificial level of difficulty and frustration to what was otherwise a beautifully crafted game, and the bad part about that is that it means the game encourages you to spend time farming currency from weak enemies in already explored areas. This SEVERELY ruins the pace and flow of the game for me, and makes it feel like I'm constantly moving one step forward and two steps back. If you want an uninhibited exploratory metroid-vania game with scaling challenges that don't feel unfair or overly punishing, tight mechanics and incredible flow, just play Ori and the Blind Forest. It's better in those areas. Although I will say Hollow Knight has far more compelling characters and a better story. I just hate how much backtracking and grinding there is. It's SO close to being a perfect game.
That last part is extra funny when you consider the developers of Sonic Mania probably were watching that, since they were big enough Dunkey fans to put him in the game as an easter egg!
So this is where I remember seeing Pepper Grinder before it's announcement in the direct from 9 months ago. I've been waiting for it to come out since watching this video, and it looks like it finally will next year
I watched this video in 2017 but I never actually played Hollow Knight, despite all recommendations. I'm playing now in 2019, and it's even better than I could have imagined.
Dunkey's Good Year List: - Furi - Castlevania - Symphony of the Night - Aladdin (SNES) - Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild - Hollow Knight - Donut County - Pepper Grinder - Dandara - Sonic Mania Mastahpeeces for yo wallet
Don't get me wrong, that game is too perfect but not doing an indepth from dunkey is for the better, playing it blind with no knowledge of it is the most immersive shit since Mario 64
Years ago, when this video came out, I just showed up to talk about the games I was familiar with. Since then I've played the Hollow Knight, and I'm just leaving a comment to confirm that I too am completely taken with that game, and I too am now among those obsessively waiting for Silksong.
Games mentioned: Furi (2016) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (1997) Disney's Alladin (1993) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) Hollow Knight (2017) Donut County Pepper Grinder Sonic Mania
Is it just me or does Hallow Knight jumping detection is kinda weird? It really feels abit clunky for the landing and jumping in Hallow Knight. When I play Salt and Sanctuary, it's super smooth when it comes to jumping and plat-forming, not Hallow Knight.
Ventus S I'v nevee had that problem normally. The only time I've had a problem with jumping is when trying to double jump after only walking off a ledge. In that situation it sometimes only registers one jump and I would have to start it again which isn't a problem for me really.
"Hollow Knight raised the bar for metroidvanias to infinity." This statement is crazy true! After playing Hollow Knight, most other metroidvanias feel as though they're missing something.
GoodKnightNintendo they just feel so empty, like they can’t live up to the scope of their own worlds (also HK’s are style is so much more beautiful than Metroid and Castlevania games)
@@Ismael-kc3ry Agreed! I feel as though Hollow Knight really captured what the genre was supposed to be about with its progressively expanding map and now whenever I'm hunting down a new game I can't help but compare it to Hollow Knight. It's an unfair advantage lol
Yeah HK has kinda ruined a lot of games for me. I played Blasphemous and Ori and while those are amazing games, I probably would’ve enjoyed them more if I’d played them before HK
@@Ismael-kc3ry For real!!! I was super hyped to play those two and while they're still incredible games, it's tough not to wish they had this or that that HK has. I actually stopped playing Ori because of its directions to everywhere approach but I'm looking forward to finishing it soon. ...right after Steel Soul lol
Daniel Gurgel Ori is actually brilliant. Hollow knight is my favorite game of all time but ori is probably my second favorite metroidvania ever. And hey there’s a sequel coming out soon that looks a million times better!
4:11 "I want to hold off on talking about the big games..." *Sees in the little corner of the screen, alongside the likes of Mario Odyssey, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Kingdom Hearts.... Knack 2 hahahaha
And it plays good. The story, the combat, the world, the soundtrack. Everything is just top notch. Also it's hard as fuck and getting that sweet juicy 100% completion takes quite some time, so it's definitely worth the $15. Hell, I would have gladly paid even more for it. 10/10. Can recommend.
Dear Videogame Dunkey, Last year I watched this video 11 times. This year, I have watched it once, so far. I am on pace to watch this 73 times. Love, Austin
Throughout the years I keep returning to this video, rewatching the bit about Hollow Knight, reliving the moment I've heard about it for the first time. Man. What a good game.

I looked up Pepper Grinder. Not on Steam, last news I can see for it was in 2019, and it's official website is now a wine directory. I guess they couldn't flesh it out.
This level of odd switching between the serious and humor with the exact same tone and voice, is just unrivaled. There are quite a few times where I can't tell whether he's serious or not, but either way the videos are always fairly entertaining.
My guinea pig passed away a few years ago. I’m not even exaggerating when I say I burst into tears when I heard yours wheaking in the background. Thanks for that, I mean it.
Getting your game shut down by Nintendo is basically Nintendo's way of saying "stop copying our shit and use your talents elsewhere, here we'll get you started by tossing something on your resume that got national attention"
When dunkey says hollow knights battle is tuned to perfection and raises the bar for metroidvania to infinity (super metroid and AM2R set the bar pretty high) I just have to play it
Fun fact: The creators were going to add a new playable character later, but they couldn't figure out how her moveset would work in the set environment and just decided to make a whole new game just for that character.
Playing Hollow Knight got to a point where I felt bad I couldn't give the devs more money

Mr. Hater
Well first off, BotW’s voice acting is off because they can’t make the lips match seven different languages.

What a masterpiece.
i came because I saw hollow knight
Because of that and simply because dunkey. Found this channel recently.
@Reojoe why is that?
@Reojoe yeah it does sound wierd but I think your joke works

Hits different now..........
Hollow Knight is phenomenal. Tough, but tremendously rewarding. Perfect in almost every way.
Hollow knight is the real deal, thanks for reminding me dunkey
Gotta say thanks, that small section was all it took for me to purchase Hollow Knight. 👍
Dude I finally got around to playing Hollow Knight, and... this game is fuckin amazing.
So glad he likes Hollow Knight. Seriously an amazing game.
True, when he brought it up onscreen for a second after dissing Yooka Laylee weeks ago, I bought Hollow Knight, now I owe it to him for introducing me to such an awesome game
every one should experience hollow knight, i mean you cant dislike it, best metroidvania
zagazsanology after getting 100% in it you start to hate your life if you plan on beating the trail of fools I recommend you start praying now
Dunno if it's due to my computer (which would be weird since my PC has pretty good specs), but while the game runs smoothly enough normally, the frames just tank during combat. It's made the whole thing unplayable for me. Anyone have any ideas?
Looks so dead and colorless... But, then again, so does Nier: Automata and that's an amazing game.... I'll have to try it.
Hollow Knight totally lives up to the hype. It had been a while since I dumped like 40+ hours into a single player game with the exception of stuff like Xcom 2.
mobman47 keyboard or controller?
Liam Cad I used controller.
I have +100 hours in this game, with a 112% completion.

@@user-rx3js1no3s How many hours do you have?
if dunkey said "that was a joke" after his jokes the runtime would be incomprehensible

It's great to see you promoting Indie Games. You got me really interested in Hollow Knight, Pepper Grinder, and Dandara.
Penguin Publisher Get Hollow Knight. It deserves every ounce of praise.
Penguin Publisher agreeeed. It's so good and the artwork is insane.
"Hollow Knight: Switch Port may be 5-11 months away" Auuughhhh........
They just got someone to port for them so it will be sooner
Hollow knight is one of those pieces of inspiration in the dry world of video games
When I entered the city of tears hollow knight became my favourite game
That last part is extra funny when you consider the developers of Sonic Mania probably were watching that, since they were big enough Dunkey fans to put him in the game as an easter egg!

I learned about hollow knight from this video and now its one of my favorite games
Years ago, when this video came out, I just showed up to talk about the games I was familiar with. Since then I've played the Hollow Knight, and I'm just leaving a comment to confirm that I too am completely taken with that game, and I too am now among those obsessively waiting for Silksong.
Games mentioned:
Furi (2016)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (1997)
Disney's Alladin (1993)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)
Hollow Knight (2017)

Man Hallow Knight was amazing. I hope the DLC adds so much more to the game, it's lore, the combat, and more areas.
Zian Xelmeus i think It Will be a DLC that you can play It as Hornet!!
it was confirmed on a kickstarter post that hornet will be the 2nd playable character
In that situation it sometimes only registers one jump and I would have to start it again which isn't a problem for me really.
ive never had thar problem. but the double jump screwed me sometimes too. White Palace was hard with this problem and keyboards only
playing Hollow Knight currently I'm about 26 hours deep and I can already say this is one of my favorite games, a masterpiece
I love how many people were introduced to Hollow Knight through Dunkey then came back and thanked him
