Fiat 600e review - Bigger but better than the Fiat 500e? | batchreviews (James Batchelor)

  • Fiat is famous for being the king of building small, characterful cars, and yet it last offered a ‘B-segment’ supermini way back in 2018 with the Punto.
But now the Italian firm is back with a two-pronged attack. A new Panda is coming in 2024 and then there's also this - the 600e. Designed to be a bigger brother to the all-electric 500e, the 600e is a family hatchback.
Under the 500-esque body likes the basic underpinnings and EV powertrain as the new Jeep Avenger. So, there's a 154bhp electric motor, a 54kWh battery pack and a 250-mile range.
Is it as delightful as the 500e and is it recommendable? I find out in this review.

I love the way this looks. Wish honda would've done this look w/the HRV. If they brought it to the U.S. I would definitely consider it. And if it was a hybrid, I probably would buy it .✌️

Actually all the instruments and buttons first appeared on the 500e NOT the Jeep…

Good review Batch however all Stellantis seem to be doing is raiding the parts bin and then putting a new dress on the car. Mind you they're not the first to do this and won't be the last ( I'm looking at you Renault) but even so it's a bit disappointing. It's like the company is saying Oh you don't like this outside ok how about this one? etc.

      Profit. Profit. Profit.
Inflation reduces the value of profits, dividends, speculative value and bonuses. And they can't decide to stop growing profits, competitors are competing to make more profits to attract investor money.
Therefore prices goes up, market wide, and you know well that adds to inflation
Don't forget Stellantis (JEEP, Chrysler, Dodge) cheats their workers like the rest of them

The 500E has been a sales disaster and FIAT know it there even reports it’s having to retrofit the platform to offer hybrid variant WHICH IT SHOULD OF DONE TO BEGIN WITH and this 600 as long as the hybrid is priced well it’ll sell well

Most of those instruments come straight from the 500e not the Jeep…

We're getting far too obsessed with 0-60 times in EV reviews. Once the preserve of Top Trump claims for supercars, we now hold our everyday family cars to the same obsession, and I don't think we should.
I love driving fast and acceleration is thrilling, but my 13 year old Laguna gets to 60 in just over 9 seconds and that's still more than quick enough for getting out in junctions when I need it to, and the car is as quick as everybody else's on the daily commute. 9 seconds is actually more than adequate for every day driving, and if we hold every car accountable to their 0-60 prowess what hope is there for the future of the supercar?

Exactly. But these are eventually treated as perceived values. Performance, size, space, looks...
And no surprise the last decade of crossovers and premium cars have created international market wide inflation. Not just from COVID.
All automakers as competitors not just compete who sells more, who has more market share but crucially who makes more profits. .
This business culture financing products that are the biggest purchase second to a home creates inflation. Inflation reduces the value of profits, dividends and bonuses.
Therefore every competitor pushes up their prices, creating more market-wide inflation
      You see where this goes?

0-60 in 9 secs is adequate for everyday driver. This was the performance of a 60's V8 pony car. All the ICE engine noise made it sound fast. Too much acceleration and torque, burns up tires, unsafe on slippery winter surfaces, sucks up battery range. encourages aggressive behavior. Seems expensive, but EV your paying for battery that is expensive. Fiat trying hard to wring out costs to a middle class price. The most important long term EV test is any history of spontaneous fires. Battery design tech replacing ICE engine tech.

      @@batchreviewsstop excusing it.
It's a market wide flaw. This is what delaying EV R&D throughout the 2000s-2010s had brought.
And Chinese EVs today are only too competitive to wipe the floor of practically every car brand, Tesla and Toyota included
