- Today's video highlights the ease at which a 'newbie' can operate an entry level bandsaw mill and consistently produce awesome products from just about any local hard or softwoods in your area. I am not the most 'experienced' guy out here using a band mill, but nonetheless I take on a project from an old school friend that lives about a mile away. That project is to haul and saw three 8 1/2' oaks from his property for either shelving or future wood working projects. The diameters of all three are right at and/or beyond the capacity of the OS27 Frontier mill. But after today, two of the three are stacked and stickered in his own garage. Success !! But then I didn't expect anythinb but that out come. #sawmill, #bandsaw, #kubota
Good Evening Sir, that is a very nice team work on your Wood Mill !!! Very Nice Oak !!! Be Well Sir Cheers
Good Morning mon ami. How's things way up north ?? I'm sure the snow is all melted by now.....I think. LOL
Another great video. Thanks 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good morning Tony. Thanks for stopping in after a bit of a dry spell. Busy summer.
Good job guys nice looking lumber that was a big log Bob did a fine job running the mill nice to see two friends working together that's awesome take care have a great week
He's really anxious to get his new shop built so some of this lumber can be put to use Tom. It was a fun afternoon and he did all the work !!
Love the way you blow out the sawdust!! Hey, a man has to do what a man has to do. That was fast and easy, the way I look at it. And, yes, beautiful lumber.
Hahahahaha....I was being a bit lazy. But it sure does clear it out pretty easy !! Thanks for the visit today.
Those where some good large logs! I liked when you used the Leaf Blower to clear out the sawdust
Most of the time I stop and open the doors, but as long as someone else is sawing, this is the easiest way I've found to clear it.
That's some beautiful lumber Wendell. Well done.
Thanks Rick. You NEVER know what's hiding inside. We did find a little rot in there but fortunately it didn't affect too many boards.
Good to see that back saving grapple in action.
Well, this log was too heavy for the Kubota's loader to start with so the skidsteer and forks had to be used. So after two sides were trimmed, I figured it should be within the capability of the new Kubota....and luckily it was. So effortless to lift and rotate 90* with the grapple !! The log should be right at 2350 to 2450 lbs and the lift capacity is 2,343. But then the weight of the grapple has to be deducted.
Nice work fellas 😁👍 The slabs look great Wendell 🔧🔩
This one was a bit tough to handle by hand. So the skidsteer came in really handy Zane. I hope the day finds you happy and healthy my friend.
Nice job on the lumber. I too have an OS27 and you're no wrong how easy it is to work. That was a big log. You sure got some nice lumber. Solving the sawdust problem has been on my mine for years not. Great video
I sure wish I'd have sprung a couple hundred more for the OS31 though. I really had to do some chainsaw trimming to fit this through the first two passes and 4 more inches would've made all the difference. And I still have a pile of much larger oaks to saw. On the OS27, It took only a few cuts before I removed the stuff from the inside of the cover over the saw dust chute. Have you noticed the failure of the safety switches..?? I've pretty much eliminated the door switches already, I think they are cheaply made.
Wendell beautiful look 👀 lumber 🪵 for a good little job with mill lumber 😊. Bob gone for lunch I’m 3 hrs from 5 o’clock supper 😊.
It was certainly about the maximum size we can do on this little mill Leonard. And I still had to chainsaw trim some knots and humps off.
I am sure Bob will make good use of that lumber! Do you sharpen your bandsaw blades? If so, what is your preferred method? Maybe a future video, if you haven't already. Thanks
No, not yet. I just hang 'em on a rod until I decided what to do with them. We had a local guy that did bandsaw blades for 8 bucks each, but I think he finally retired. So I just haven't searched my options yet.

This one took some trimming with the chainsaw to clear the sawhead. Kinda tough for the first two rolls.
Your 27” probably do 25” for cutting, NO PROBLEM if iiiii iiiii know you tractor 🚜 Man 44 you will get mill down into lumber for sure . 😊 remember SAW in the WOOD 🪵. 😊
The big problem is the knots and stubs on the bigger logs Leonard. They really have to be trimmed down good and then they are still a bit of a problem if the log has much of a 'bow' to it. We get it done though !!
